On how she’s labeled in the music industry as a Black woman: Any music I do will easily and quickly be categorized as R&B because I’m a Black woman…If someone who didn’t have my skin tone made the same music, it would be in the pop categories. That’s just the way it’s always been in life.
On drawing inspiration from Whitney Houston and Beyoncé: Early on in her career, when she was doing the big pop records, she got a lot of flak for that: being told she wasn’t Black enough and wasn’t catering to the base that made her…To see how she persevered and has become one of the most iconic, legendary artists that we’ve ever seen, shows that music has no race, it has no genre, it has none of that. It’s just a feeling and it’s a vibration. And that’s why I was really proud of Beyoncé doing Cowboy Carter, because Black people originated country music. It’s just showing that possibilities are endless.
On advice Beyoncé gave her and her sister Halle: You have to let the world catch up because you’re always ahead of the curve…What I kind of love about my art is that it sneaks up on you…When In Pieces came out, not many people really got it. But now a year later, people are like, ‘Oh, it’s genius! It’s beautiful! It’s amazing!’ And if you think about it, that’s how it has been with me and my sister’s previous work as well. No one ever gets it when it first comes out.
On her “sex appeal” being a topic of criticism: People are so used to seeing me as a little girl, when I pose in what they would call sexy [outfits], the quickest thing that a lot of haters would like to say is: She has no sex appeal…That really makes me laugh because it just doesn’t make any sense to me! I mean, I am quirky, but I am sexy at the same time. You can be both!
On feeling more free with her body after spending time in Saint Lucia: Being in the Caribbean, everyone has their ass out, no bra…It’s so liberating…I don’t know why celebrating yourself is so taboo…It’s kind of fun knowing that, as a woman, I have that kind of power where someone seeing my natural body will cause a lot of conversation. We all have an ass. We all have privates, titties. I don’t get the hoopla…your sexiness doesn’t come from your body parts. It’s from the inside. I’m losing weight from all the dancing, so some of my butt is leaving. But I was like, ‘Wait a second — it’s still sexy when I turn around in the mirror.’ Even though my butt is smaller, it’s not about the ass. It’s about your inner confidence. When you have that fearlessness, anything will be sexy.
On healthy competition: It pushes you. It allows you to become better. It’s OK to celebrate other incredible women and also be like, ‘I’ve got to step my game up!’…Plus, I grew up running track. I’m a very competitive person.
On her love for Lego: It’s very therapeutic and calming…I was at Alicia Keys’ studio last year, and she had them all over her wall. I was like, ‘I love you even more and have never felt so seen.’ I don’t know if [Legos] are a thing with creative women — the act of building something from nothing and seeing it come to life, it’s so rewarding.
On what inspired the romantic woes in Trouble in Paradise: The story of this album is like when you have a summer fling…You’re a hopeless romantic and you fall in love, deep. You know it won’t last forever, but it feels too good to really care.
On collaborating Halle on a new song for Trouble in Paradise: I got in my sister’s head and was like, OK, what is going on in her life right now?…We both have our own lives. She’s a mom now, we’re both traveling, we’re constantly passing each other in the sky. #RHOA: Kandi Burruss slams Kenya Moore’s Bravo suspension after sex poster scandal
Kandi Burruss has come to the defense of former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” co-star Kenya Moore following her suspension from the Bravo series.
While Burruss, 48, recently left “RHOA” after 14 seasons, she still keeps up with cast news and sometimes questions decisions that are made.
“I don’t like the fact that they suspended Kenya,” the “Only For You” singer said on a recent episode of the Yung Joc & The Streetz Morning Takeover radio show.

“Why y’all all of a sudden have such an issue with somebody doing something crazy to somebody?” Burruss said on the Yung Joc & The Streetz Morning Takeover radio show.
“I know a lot of people are like, ‘She shouldn’t have shown that,’ but this is ‘Housewives.'”
Burruss continued, “How many times we done did something that you think somebody shouldn’t do? So, who made the rules?
“Why y’all all of a sudden have such an issue with somebody doing something crazy to somebody?”
Moore shocked party guests earlier this month when she displayed posters of series newcomer Brittany Eady allegedly performing oral sex at her Kenya Moore Hair grand opening.
Sources told us at the time that an investigation was launched by Bravo after the incident.
On June 14, We broke the news that, Moore — who joined the “RHOA” cast in 2012 — was suspended indefinitely from the reality series.
The decision to pause the 53-year-old former beauty queen’s participation in the series came days after she decorated the grand opening of her Kenya Moore Hair Spa with posters of “RHOA” newcomer Brittany Eady allegedly performing oral sex.
Sources say Eady, 36, was not present at the event.

Moore denied engaging “in revenge porn” and later addressed her suspension.

Swizz Beatz has responded to the strong reactions elicited by the announcement that he and Timbaland had forged a partnership between Verzuz and Elon Musk’s X.
On Friday (June 21), the mega-producer shared a photoset captured in Cannes, France — where he and Timbo announced during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity that all future Verzuz content will be released exclusively on the platform formerly known as Twitter.
In the first photo, the two can be seen sporting merch created to celebrate the partnership. Over the photo, in cursive, Swizz included the phrase, “We will show you better than tell you.”
He echoed the statement in the post’s caption, adding, “Blessings to all,” along with a series of emojis.
Unfortunately, the post did not seem to sway the naysayers, as many took to the comments to call Swizz Beatz and Timbaland out for “selling out;” while others suggested they should have partnered with any other social media platform.
“It’s cool to ‘show us’ but don’t play in our faces and act like folks don’t have a valid reason to question this partnership,” wrote one commenter.
To which Swizzy replied: “But nobody said anything before we been on that platform since Verzuz started.”
Timbaland and Swizz Beatz made their original announcement in a joint social media post on Wednesday (June 19).
“We are beyond thrilled to have found the best partner for Verzuz,” the Ruff Ryders beatmaker said. “Not only are we excited to have Verzuz on X, we’re excited to help X build the biggest entertainment company in the world. On Friday (June 21), the mega-producer shared a photoset captured in Cannes, France — where he and Timbo announced during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity that all future Verzuz content will be released exclusively on the platform formerly known as Twitter.
In the first photo, the two can be seen sporting merch created to celebrate the partnership. Over the photo, in cursive, Swizz included the phrase, “We will show you better than tell you.”
He echoed the statement in the post’s caption, adding, “Blessings to all,” along with a series of emojis.
Unfortunately, the post did not seem to sway the naysayers, as many took to the comments to call Swizz Beatz and Timbaland out for “selling out;” while others suggested they should have partnered with any other social media platform.
“It’s cool to ‘show us’ but don’t play in our faces and act like folks don’t have a valid reason to question this partnership,” wrote one commenter.
To which Swizzy replied: “But nobody said anything before we been on that platform since Verzuz started.”
Timbaland and Swizz Beatz made their original announcement in a joint social media post on Wednesday (June 19).
“We are beyond thrilled to have found the best partner for Verzuz,” the Ruff Ryders beatmaker said. “Not only are we excited to have Verzuz on X, we’re excited to help X build the biggest entertainment company in the world. I would like to thank Elon Musk, Linda Yaccarino, Brett Weitz, Mitchell Smith and the entire X team for believing in the Verzuz vision. We can’t wait to get to work.”
Timbo added: “We are thrilled to partner with X, the most innovative platform globally. Our goal has always been to bring Verzuz to the world which we can now do bigger than ever.”
The duo also stated that they plan on building new “Entertainment Businesses” on the platform.

MLB great Reggie Jackson opened up about racism he experienced during his early baseball career in powerful remarks Thursday on live TV.
Jackson, who played for the Kansas City Athletics and the Oakland Athletics in the 1960s and ’70s, described multiple instances in which people referred to him using the N-word decades ago.
“I walked into restaurants and they would point at me and said, ‘The n****r can’t eat here,’” he told a Fox Sports panel at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, where he played for the minor league Birmingham A’s in 1967.
The baseball Hall of Famer also recalled experiencing discrimination when he tried to attend a “welcome home dinner” at the country club of then-Athletics owner Charlie Finley.
“They pointed me out ... [and said,] ‘He can’t come in here.’ Finley marched the whole team out,” Jackson said. “Finally, they let me in there. He said: ‘We’re going to go to the diner and eat hamburgers. We’ll go where we’re wanted.’”
Jackson’s remarks came as he attended a tribute game honoring the Negro Leagues, less than one month after Major League Baseball incorporated the leagues’ statistics into its official records.
Jackson was one of a few Black players on the Birmingham squad when he played at Rickwood, the oldest professional ballpark in the U.S.
“Coming back here is not easy,” Jackson told former New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez, who asked how “emotional” he felt in returning to the city.
Jackson pointed to a number of his white friends in baseball — including his onetime manager John McNamara, as well as players like Rollie Fingers and Dave Duncan — who helped him get through difficult moments.
He recalled crashing on a teammate’s couch before people threatened to burn down the apartment complex unless he “got out” of it.“I wouldn’t wish it on anyone,” Jackson said, adding that he might have been killed if he reacted to racism by starting a fight.
“At the same time, had it not been for my white friends ... I would have never made it.”

Tupac’s Murder Suspect, Keefe D, Reportedly Scheduled to Be Released from Prison
Although Tupac’s murder saw a significant breakthrough last year, the suspect involved is reportedly scheduled to be set free.
On Friday, Duane Davis, also known as Keefe D, raised enough money to afford his $75,000 bond, securing his release from police custody while awaiting his trial, which is set to begin in November. However, Davis is expected to return to court next week, where Judge Carli Kenny will outline the terms and conditions of his release.
Earlier this year, Davis’s court-appointed attorneys petitioned for leniency, arguing that their client “poses no danger” due to his current state of health. It’s important to note that a similar request was made and denied in 2023 when Davis was considered “dangerous” for bail. To support this claim, prosecutors highlighted Davis’s gang-affiliated past and his confession to Tupac’s murder.
The 61-year-old former gang member is currently the only person charged with the death of the California rapper. Despite pleading not guilty, Davis has repeatedly mentioned being responsible for orchestrating the shooting that occurred over two decades ago.

Nicki Minaj was instructed to show up to court after her company was ordered to pay $1 million to a concert promoter, In Touch can exclusively reveal.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge granted an application brought by the promoter, BS Associates Company LTD, demanding Nicki, 41, show up for a financial examination.
Nicki was ordered to appear on August 15 and “furnish information to aid enforcement of a money judgment against” her. The application told Nicki to come to court with information about her assets. BS Associates LTD, a British Virgin Islands-based promoter, was awarded the seven-figure sum from Nicki’s company Pink Personality.
The promoter took Pink Personality to arbitration over Nicki failing to show for a scheduled concert. In court papers, BS Associates claimed Nicki agreed to perform a 2018 concert in China. The promoter agreed to pay $1 million to Pink Personality for Nicki’s performance.
The money was sent to her talent agents at CAA, per the suit. The funds were deposited into an escrow account. BS Associates claimed Nicki asked for $250,000 to be released from the account a couple of weeks before the September 18, 2018, show. The promoter said it agreed to release the $250,000.
However, it said Nicki failed to show up to the show.
Law Roach Gets Real About Zendaya’s ‘Evolving Style’ and Only Coming Out of Retirement for ‘Icons’
Law Roach got real about coming out of retirement to style “icons” like Zendaya and how they’ve collaborated on her evolving style.
“I was retired for seven months, but it keeps calling me back,” Roach, 45, exclusively told Us Weekly at the Abbey’s Relaunch Party in Hollywood on Thursday, June 20. “I came back because of Zendaya, and now I did something with Celine Dion and Naomi Campbell, so I think I unretire for icons.”
Having worked closely with Zendaya, 27, as her stylist over the years, Roach gushed about their strong bond. “We’ve grown up together so we’ve just evolved together,” he said, noting that her style is always “evolving.”
