#RHOP: Karen Huger’s Request to Dismiss DUI Case Denied Due to 'Illegal Search' While Detained
A judge has denied Karen Huger’s request for the dismissal of her DUI case. According to a motion obtained by PEOPLE, The Real Housewives of Potomac star, 61, filed paperwork on July 11 to suppress statements and evidence from her DUI arrest after claiming she incriminated herself during a custodial interrogation without being read her Miranda rights.
The motion claims that Huger argued that “the evidence seized in this case was obtained as a result of an illegal search and seizure.”
“The defendant was told she was not free to leave,” Huger’s lawyers wrote. “She was not read her Miranda warnings, indicating that the information she would provide them would be used in the filing of criminal charges against her.”
On July 25, a judge submitted a response denying the request, stating that based on past Supreme Court cases, Huger’s “roadside investigation” did not require her to be read Miranda rights.
“The defendant’s statements were not obtained as a result of a custodial interrogation because some of her statements were made while Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel were treating the defendant for potential injuries,” the ruling read. “The defendant’s statements made during this time were free and voluntary, and were stated out loud while in the presence of police officers.”
“Additionally, statements made after the defendant was examined by EMS personnel were not obtained as a result of a custodial interrogation because the defendant’s subsequent statements were made while the defendant was temporarily detained pursuant to a traffic stop,” it added. "The defendant’s statements should not be suppressed and the Defendant’s Motion to Suppress should be denied."
As background, the court also provided details of what the scene of the crash looked like when officers arrived. The filing alleges officers found two beers in Huger’s Maserati, which was off the road in a grassy area with its airbags deployed.
“Officers additionally observed the driver of the vehicle, the defendant, unsteady on her feet, swaying, stumbling, and slurring her speech,” the documents continued to allege. “Furthermore, the initial caller spoke to officers on scene and indicated that prior to police arrival, the defendant appeared confused and the caller smelled alcohol when interacting with the defendant.”
Huger was allegedly temporarily detained for “less than 10 minutes” before being placed under arrest.
Following her arrest in March, Huger spoke out about the incident in a statement to TMZ.
"Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes during this very frightening experience,” she said. “I am still in shock from last night's incident, but grateful to be alive today. With the passing of my Beloved Mother, Grief comes and goes in waves, and with Mother's Day approaching it has felt more like a tsunami."
Huger, whose parents both died in 2017, added, "Last night I met a girlfriend for dinner, we talked and brought up some very emotionally sensitive topics. I was crying on my way home and saw a car heading right for me. I swerved to avoid the head-on collision, hit the divider, and then a tree. I'm hurt, bruised up a bit, but so grateful I am alive! I did receive citations, one of which was unrelated to the incident which is understandable, but what was most surprising is that the car that almost hit me just drove away!"
She encouraged others to “understate your emotional state" before getting behind the wheel before concluding by crediting her mother, whom she called her "Guardian Angel," and her seatbelt for saving her life.

#HipHopNews: Q-Tip Accepts A Tribe Called Quest's 2024 Rock Hall Induction With Emotional
Q-Tip has taken time to acknowledge his late partner in rhyme Phife Dawg during an emotional acceptance speech during the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame’s 2024 Induction ceremony.
During the event, which took place Saturday night (October 19) and was live streamed on Disney+, A Tribe Called Quest was welcomed into the renowned organization by Dave Chappelle — who thanked the seminal Queens crew for inviting him to join them on Saturday Night Live in 2016, thus ending his 12-year television hiatus.
Following Chappelle’s speech, the group’s influence and legacy was commemorated with a spotlight video featuring commentary by Andre 3000, Busta Rhymes, the Beastie Boys‘ Mike D, Common, Lauryn Hill, Monie Love, Pharrell Williams and Questlove; as well as archived interview footage of Phife Dawg and newer clips of Q-Tip and Ali Shaheed Muhammad.
Tip and Jarobi White then took the stage along with Phife Dawg’s parents and Ali Shaheed Muhammad’s wife, at which point the two present members of A Tribe Called Quest took turns addressing the crowd, with White going first.
“I think Dave hit it on the head: we didn’t even think this was something to aspire to,” he said. “My boy Phife Dawg, give it up for Phife Dawg! I don’t have any stories; all I have is gratitude.” He then proceeded to thank the cities which were integral to his personal life, and “Tribe fans everywhere” before introducing Phife’s parents and thanking his own family.
White also addressed Q-Tip directly, calling him “Captain” and saying: “I love your dirty drawls, boy. I love you to death. Thank you for your tutelage, support, the gift of this life. I wouldn’t be the same without all of my brothers. I’m really glad and proud to call you guys my big brothers.”
Stepping to the podium, the group’s de facto frontman said: “This is crazy. I’m gonna have a pre-amble before I read. And part of the pre-amble is that it’s just an honor to be here with the fellow inductees. There’s so many people for us to thank, that we’re probably gonna post all the names on IG. So stay tuned. Because if I say everybody’s names up here, it would be ridiculous.”
He went on to thank each of the crew members’ families, before getting chocked up as he added, “And rest in peace to our brother Phife Dawg, I wish you were here,” at which point he took a step away from the mic to gather himself.
“And thank you to Dr. Emma Boyce, Grandma as we affectionately called her,” Q-Tip continued, “for allowing us to come into the house and hit the basement. And one other name I’ll mention is definitely Red Alert, who is a famed New York City DJ who gave us the shot.”
Following an address to the crowd by Phife’s father, A Tribe Called Quest were joined on stage by the surviving members of De La Soul, Busta Rhymes, Common, Queen Latifah, The Roots and Spliff Star to perform their classics “Can I Kick It?,” “Check the Rhime,” “Bonita Applebum,” and a mashup of both versions of “Scenario.”

As confetti fell and Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York” blared through the arena, the New York Liberty celebrated the end of a long odyssey.
The team that always fell short, starting from their days in Madison Square Garden, through detours to Radio City Music Hall and Westchester County Center, finally found their way to the top.
Start spreading the news, indeed: There’s finally a pro basketball champion in New York again after a 67-62 overtime win over Minnesota in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals on Sunday night.
“I’ve been manifesting this moment for awhile, There’s no feeling like it,” Breanna Stewart said. “Credit to Minnesota, they gave us a tough series. The fans have been amazing everywhere we’ve gone. To bring a championship to New York, first ever in franchise history it’s an incredible feeling. I can’t wait to continue to celebrate with the city. It’s going to be bonkers.”
Jonquel Jones scored 17 points to lead New York, which was one of the original franchises in the league. The Liberty made the WNBA Finals five times before, losing each one, including last season. This time they wouldn’t be denied, although it took an extra five minutes.
With stars Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu struggling on offense, other players stepped up. Leonie Fiebich started off OT with a 3-pointer, and then Nyara Sabally, who finished with 13 points, had a steal for a layup to make it 65-60 and bring the sellout crowd to a frenzied state. “Whoever scores in overtime first usually wins,” Liberty coach Sandy Brondello said.

Minnesota didn’t score in OT until Kayla McBride hit two free throws with 1:51 left. The Lynx missed all six of their field goal attempts in overtime. After Ionescu missed a shot with 21 seconds left, her 18th miss on 19 shot attempts, the Lynx had one last chance, but Bridget Carleton missed a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left.
Stewart, who missed a free throw with 0.8 seconds left in the end of regulation in Game 1, hit two free throws with 10.1 seconds left in overtime to seal the victory.
As the final seconds ticked off the clock the players hugged and streamers fell from the rafters at Barclays Center. Stewart and Jones hugged. The two prize free agent signees two years ago helped get this team its first title.
New York trailed by two in regulation when Stewart was fouled with 5.2 seconds left. After a lengthy video review, Stewart calmly hit two free throws to tie the game at 60. Minnesota had challenged the foul call and after the game coach Cheryl Reeve still questioned it, saying the title was stolen from her team.
McBride, who finished with 21 points, had an open look for a 3, but it fell off the rim and the game went to OT.
Many of the former Liberty greats were in the audience, including Teresa Weatherspoon, who hit a half-court heave in the 1999 WNBA Finals to force a decisive Game 3 that year. That was the last time that New York had a chance to play in a championship-deciding game until this year.
Jones, who was the only player on the Liberty to compete in a Game 5 before when she was with Connecticut in 2019, earned MVP honors.
“I could never dream of this. You know how many times I’ve been denied. It was delayed. I am so happy to do it here,” she said.
Napheesa Collier scored 22 points to lead Minnesota before fouling out with 13 seconds left in OT.
The Lynx were trying for a record fifth WNBA title, breaking a tie with the Seattle Storm and Houston Comets. Minnesota won four titles from 2011-17 behind the core group of Lindsay Whalen, Seimone Augustus, Rebekkah Brunson, Sylvia Fowles and Maya Moore. That was the team’s last appearance in the WNBA Finals until this year.
“Congratulations to the Liberty on their first championship,” Reeve said. “It took them 28 years, congrats to them. We were that close to our fifth, it just didn’t happen.”
This is the first time since 2019 that the WNBA Finals have gone the distance. Since the league switched to a best-of-five format in 2005, seven other series have gone to a Game 5 and the home team had won five of those previous contests, including in 2019.
This series has been a fitting conclusion to a record-breaking season for the league. All five games came down to the last few possessions and have included two overtime games and a last-second shot, which have led to record ratings.
The first three games each had over a million viewers on average, with the audience growing for each contest. They also have had huge crowds in attendance.
Liberty fan Spike Lee was courtside over an hour before tipoff chatting with the media while wearing his Ionescu jersey. Once Ionescu finished warming up pregame, the pair had a brief exchange and hugged. Lee was part of a sellout crowd of 18,090 that helped this series set both the overall attendance record for a WNBA Finals as well as the average attendance mark.

#BoxOfficeNews: ‘Smile 2’ Matches Its Predecessor With $23 Million Box Office Opening
“Terrifier 3” continues its remarkable run while “Anora” posts the year’s best per theater average
There’s good news for several films at the box office this weekend, starting with Paramount’s “Smile 2,” which despite competition from the gory indie darling “Terrifier 3” is set to match the opening weekend of its predecessor with a $23 million launch from 3,619 theaters after earning $9.4 million on Friday, including $2.5 million from Thursday previews.
Two years ago, “Smile” earned a $22.6 million opening in September, going on to gross $109.5 million domestic and $217.4 million worldwide against a $17 million production budget. “Smile 2,” which stars Naomi Scott as a pop star doomed by a fatal curse, only has a slightly higher budget at $28 million and has earned positive reception with a B on CinemaScore and Rotten Tomatoes scores of 84% critics and 86% audience.
The good news for theaters is that none of this has come at the expense of “Terrifier 3,” which is continuing to draw in audiences daring to take on the challenge of watching Damien Leone’s ultraviolent slasher threequel. In its second weekend, the Cineverse/Bloody Disgusting release is headed for a $9.6 million frame, dropping just 48% from its $18.8 million start as it heads for an estimated two weekend total of $36.4 million.
With this result, “Terrifier 3” is set to gross at least $50 million against its miniscule $2.5 million production and marketing spend, becoming one of the top 5 horror films of the box office this year. With Halloween still ahead, all signs point to the film continuing to leg out.
Also opening in the top 5 this weekend is A24/StudioCanal’s romantic drama “We Live in Time” starring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, making $1.8 million from 985 theaters as it heads for an industry estimated $4.3 million opening weekend. Reception for the film has been strong with Rotten Tomatoes scores of 80% critics and 94% audience.
And on the limited release side, Neon’s “Anora” is set to have an incredible opening in New York and Los Angeles. Based on industry estimates, “Anora” is set to earn $650,000 from just six theaters, giving it the best per theater average of the year at $108,333.

Tyler Perry teases 'Why Did I Get Married Again?'
Tyler Perry is banding the cast of Why Did I Get Married? together again. The mogul surprisingly responded to fans’ impassioned demands that he revisit the storylines of the couples he introduced to moviegoers in 2007 amid a series of viral posts from some of the film’s stars.
On Sunday (Oct. 20), Perry shared a photo of his computer screen displaying what appeared to be the first page of a script for Why Did I Get Married Again? The director delivered a second chapter of the characters’ lives in 2010 for Why Did I Get Married Too? The cast of actors includes Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal, Perry, Richard T. Jones, Malik Yoba and Michael Jai White.
A fan commenting on the post wrote, “Now look what the people have done!!!!!” While another person warned, “Don’t play with us Tyler.” A humorous frenzy spun into a weekend of reactions when Jones, who portrayed the hated character Mike, set things off on social media on Oct. 18.
He posted a video of himself seated on a plane, shaking his head in disbelief as he covered his mouth. The post’s text overlay read, “POV: I had to make Shelia drive again.” He knew the joke would get a rise out of followers who clocked that he was making light of the fact that Mike left his wife Sheila, who was portrayed by Scott, to drive to their friends’ snowy couple’s retreat alone.
Soon after, the “Golden” singer was in full character with a response to her onscreen husband. From there, Smith, White and Leal each tapped into their respective roles to fire off their own reactions to the debacle playing out online.
Noticeably absent from the entertaining shenanigans are Jackson, who has been on the road for her “Together Again” tour while mourning the recent passing of her brother Tito Jackson, and Yoba, whose character Gavin died in the second film. The theatrical releases combined grossed more than $115 million.

Dutch Deal For LGBTQ+ Dating Format ‘I Kissed A Girl’ As RTL Greenlights Local Version For Videoland Streamer
A local I Kissed A Girl will play in the Netherlands after RTL greenlit a version of the LGBTQ+ dating format for its streaming service Videoland.
The show, from South Shore, originated in the UK as I Kissed a Boy. It was the first British dating series with only gay men competing. It is hosted by Australian singer and presenter Dannii Minogue and gave rise to spin-off show I Kissed a Girl.
The finished UK series play on Videoland in the Netherlands and RTL has now stepped up and ordered a local version for its OTT service. Casting for the Dutch series is underway, and it will shoot and premiere next year on Videoland.
It will be set in an unspecified exotic location and follow a group of single queer women as they search for their perfect match. The twist is that before any conversation, each girl is paired with their most compatible match, and their first interaction is a kiss and sparks either fly or the chemistry fizzles out.
The finished version of ITV Studios-distributed I Kissed a Girl has travelled well, with sales to Brazil, Denmark, and Hulu in the U.S. among others. The Videoland deal is the first for a local version of the show. It will be made by ITV Studios Netherlands.
“This bold and groundbreaking format offers not only great entertainment but also an important platform for increasing LGBTQ+ representation on Dutch television,” said Laurens Woldberg, MD ITV Studios Netherlands. “It’s a significant step forward in showcasing love and relationships in all their diversity, and we can’t wait to see the impact it will have with audiences here.”
ITV Studios is at MIPCOM this week looking for more deals on the show and other formats including Shark! Celebrity Infested Water, which was one of Deadline’s Hot Ones, a roster of red-hot shows launching in Cannes.
The I Kissed a Girl deal is one of several for ITV Studios’ formats team as MIPCOM kicks off. A local version of The Perfect Picture, in which celebs with a passion for photography compete to show off their behind the camera skills, has been ordered by Swedish pubcaster SVT. It is the seventh deal for the France-originated format. ITV Studios Sweden will produce the SVT version.
Elsewhere, a deal with THR in Croatia for The Voice Kids, means the format has now been commissioned in 50 territories.

Gullah-Geechee Community (Descendants of Slaves) Mourn Deaths of 7 After Sapelo Island Dock Collapses
*At least seven people lost their lives when a dock collapsed on Sapelo Island, Georgia, sending a group of attendees plunging into the Atlantic waters. The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, during a vibrant Cultural Day event celebrating the unique heritage of the Gullah-Geechee community, which consists of the descendants of enslaved individuals.
Witnesses reported that approximately 20 people were gathered on the gangway leading to the outer dock, which connects to a ferry transporting passengers to the mainland when it suddenly collapsed. “The gangway just gave way, and people were thrown into the water without warning,” recounted one attendee who was not injured.
Tragically, eight people were transported to the hospital, with at least six sustaining critical injuries. Meanwhile, search and rescue operations are ongoing, with U.S. Coast Guard teams utilizing boats equipped with sonar technology and helicopters to scour the surrounding waters for any missing individuals.
Paul Anthony, a chaplain for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, was among those who lost their lives in this unexpected calamity. Tyler Jones, a representative from the agency, commented on the shocking nature of the incident, “The gangway was less than a year old, and we are still trying to understand how it could have failed so abruptly.”
The dock failure and subsequent tragedy unfolded during an event meant to honor and celebrate the rich cultural history of the Gullah-Geechee community, which has roots deeply connected to the African heritage that survived the Middle Passage. The historic Hog Hammock Community on Sapelo Island is notable for being one of the last intact islands where these traditions are preserved.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed his sorrow over the incident, stating, “I am heartbroken by the loss of life. We extend our resources to support search, rescue, and recovery efforts.” Meanwhile, President Joe Biden issued a statement of solidarity, emphasizing the tragic disruption of what was intended to be a joyful celebration of culture.

As rescue crews persist in their search efforts, a team of engineers and construction specialists is set to arrive on-site to investigate the cause of the gangway collapse. The McIntosh County community is grappling with the immense grief this tragedy has wrought, as residents bond over shared history and loss.
Local leaders, including McIntosh County Commissioner Roger Lotson, underscored the tight-knit nature of Sapelo Island’s community, saying, “Everyone is family, and everyone knows each other. In any tragedy, especially like this, they are all one. They’re all united in their pain.”
In addition to mourning the dead, the dwindling Gullah-Geechee community faces ongoing struggles against forced gentrification and rising taxes that threaten their way of life. The loss experienced during this tragic accident further compounds the challenges that they continue to face.
Drake and Jennifer Lopez Allegedly Reignite Their Connection Following Her Split from Ben Affleck
Seven years ago, rumors swirled that Drake and Jennifer Lopez were getting close when the rapper shared cozy photos of them while working on his More Life album. However, when the project dropped, J.Lo was nowhere to be found on the final tracklist, leaving fans wondering what had happened between the two.
Now, with Jennifer Lopez facing a fresh chapter following her brief marriage and impending divorce from Ben Affleck, insiders say Drake is wasting no time rekindling their connection. According to In Touch, the “Certified Lover Boy” has reached out to the multi-talented star, offering both flattery and support.
“As soon as she filed the papers, Drake reached out,” a source told In Touch. “He was very sweet and told her what a fool Ben is for letting her get away, and then he quickly let her know he’s ready and willing to step in and satisfy her.”
While Lopez may be taking her time to process the breakup, sources indicate that the two have been engaging in flirty late-night texts and calls. Though J.Lo has her guard up—fully aware of Drake’s reputation as a player—the insider revealed that Drake is filling the void for something lighthearted and fun, without immediate expectations of a serious relationship.
“He’s very intelligent and romantic, and she can count on him being discreet because he’s always kept her secrets in the past,” the insider added. “It’s still in the sexting stage, but she loves hearing from him and sharing sexy selfies. He’s very quick to compliment her and lays it on thick.”
While Jennifer Lopez might not see Drake as relationship material just yet, the source explained that the Canadian rapper is more than willing to step up if and when she’s ready to take things to the next level. “It’s just a matter of her being in the right headspace,” the source concluded, hinting that Drake is ready to “drop everything” and meet her at a moment’s notice.

Liam Payne’s Tragic Death Linked to Dangerous Drug Cocktail, Including “Pink Cocaine”
Liam Payne Believed to Have Been Under the Influence of Powerful Hallucinogens During Tragic Hotel Balcony Fall
Former One Direction star Liam Payne tragically passed away last week in Argentina, and new reports reveal that a dangerous mix of drugs—including the increasingly notorious “pink cocaine”—was found in his system. The 31-year-old singer died after falling from his hotel balcony, with experts suggesting he may have been unconscious at the time of the fatal plunge.
According to ABC News, Payne’s toxicology report uncovered a toxic blend of substances, including crack cocaine, benzodiazepines, and Tusi—more commonly known as “pink cocaine.” Tusi is a risky cocktail made up of methamphetamine, ketamine, and ecstasy, a drug mixture that’s been gaining popularity in underground scenes. Pink cocaine, once popular in New York’s club circles, has reportedly made its way into U.S. streets, often smuggled by members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua.
Sources close to the situation claim that Payne’s fall was not only the result of the drugs in his system but also tied to his erratic behavior in the hours leading up to his death. Witnesses reported the singer smashing his laptop and offering $20,000 to an unidentified woman shortly before the incident.
In a chilling moment, a hotel manager made a frantic call to local police, warning them of a man under the influence of drugs and alcohol who was “trashing” his room and possibly endangering his life. Sadly, authorities arrived too late to prevent the fatal accident.
As the investigation into Payne’s final moments continues, the world mourns the loss of a beloved pop icon gone far too soon.
Attorney Lisa Bloom Hints That Dawn Richard Is The Anonymous Accuser in Diddy’s Sex Trafficking Case
Attorney Lisa Bloom has dropped some hints that suggest Dawn Richard might be one of the anonymous victims in Diddy’s sex trafficking case.
TalkTV shared a clip that’s been making waves on X, where Bloom spoke about representing Richard in a civil lawsuit and highlighted the striking similarities to the federal criminal case against Diddy.
“The federal criminal case came after ours, but it was strikingly similar,” Bloom said. “Many of the same allegations that women were victimized, that they were terrorized, that they weren’t even paid properly when they worked for him and made music with him.”
She didn’t hold back on calling out the people surrounding Diddy either.
“In our case and in the federal criminal case, we’re not just against Sean Combs but against a large number of people who are accused of being his enablers,” she continued. “These guys don’t just do this by themselves. They have to have a large number of people who are complicit in order to have an operation this big.”
Bloom also connected Diddy being denied bail to her own case, saying prosecutors claim he tampered with witnesses before going to jail.
“There’s a woman, only one, who came out publicly after we filed our complaint, and basically attacked my client and said she was a liar,” Bloom explained. “Well it turns out, the prosecutors say, that there were over 100 phone messages between Sean Combs and this witness right after the filing of our complaint until a couple of days later, when she came out with her statement calling my client a liar.”
While Bloom didn’t drop any names, her comments seem to be pointing straight at Kalenna Harper, the third member of Dirty Money. Harper came out defending Diddy just two days after Dawn’s lawsuit dropped, making the whole situation look even more suspect.
Bloom is clearly ready to go hard in this case, and the connections between the civil and criminal cases are only making things worse for Diddy.

Louis Vuitton Beanie Becomes Fall item, Now Sold Out
A Louis Vuitton beanie went viral online after an innocent tweet from a woman to her boyfriend skyrocketed discussions surrounding the hat.
It all started when a Twitter user shared a now-deleted screenshot of her significant other sending her a photo of the LV Crush Damoflage Pearls Beanie, which is listed at $575 on the Louis Vuitton website. Trump Had a McDonald's event that was staged for his supporters!
Donald Trump spent one of the final weekends before the election in a battleground-state swing that took him to a McDonald’s, a convention center, and a football game.
After landing in Philadelphia Sunday afternoon, Trump stopped at a suburban McDonald’s to engage in a highly choreographed stint at the fry station, hosted a freewheeling but ultimately uneventful town hall, and planned to end the day at a Pittsburgh Steelers game.
“Fifteen days until we get to be great again,” Trump said during the town hall at the Lancaster Convention Center, where the GOP nominee took pre-screened questions from supporters in a forum moderated by conservative podcast host Sage Steele.
Trump is keeping a packed schedule with just over two weeks until the election, despite the suggestion from his campaign that Trump had backed out of an interview with the Black-oriented media outlet The Shade Room because he’s suffering from exhaustion.
Unlike Trump’s last town hall in the state, Trump didn’t dance or play music. And unlike his appearance on the other side of the state Saturday, he didn’t tell any stories about the genitalia of deceased, legendary golfers. He mostly stuck to complaining about crime, immigration, and Kamala Harris. “I have no cognitive — she may have a cognitive problem,” Trump said of Harris, who has suggested the 78-year-old Trump’s cognitive abilities are slipping.
Trump also touted his pie-in-the-sky proposals to exempt taxes on overtime, make car loan interest tax deductible, and reduce household energy costs by half — with no specifics on how he might achieve those policies.
“Frack, frack, frack — like a duck,” Trump said at one point, imitating a duck while discussing the process for extracting energy from deep rock formations.
The audience booed Harris after Trump noted it was her 60th birthday, which Harris spent campaigning today in Georgia. “I believe that Joe Biden likes me more than he likes Kamala Harris,” Trump said.
Mostly, the event was classic Trump. The former president pointed out a guy in the front row dressed in a brick-wall-pattered suit to represent the wall at the southern border — “Mr. Wall,” Trump called him. Halfway through, Trump appeared to get restless with the Q&A format, stopping for a minute to bring local lawmakers to the stage, something he normally does at rallies.
He took a question on Medicare and Social Security from a retired union worker with a long beard and Carhartt overalls. Trump said he liked the overalls. “Doesn’t he look handsome? He’s a much better-looking guy than I am,” said the former president, who also called the moderator “beautiful” and then complained that you can’t call women beautiful anymore if you’re a politician.
But the part of the day that really made headlines for Trump was his stop before Lancaster in suburban Philadelphia, where he worked the fryer in a McDonald’s apron and handed out orders to supporters through the drive-thru window.
Trump made that particular stop to antagonize Harris, who has made her brief time working the fry station and the cashier at McDonald’s as a college student a key aspect of her early biography. Republicans claim, without evidence, that Harris is lying about her fast-food job, with Trump quipping today that he worked the fryer for 15 minutes longer than Harris.
Trump corrected the record when Steele said he flipped burgers. “Mostly fries,” Trump said. He also called the process “beautiful.”
The former president said he was told he did not even have to make that particular stop, but insisted he wanted to. “They said, you can avoid this. Can you avoid this. Can you imagine that? I said, who’s going to tell these people? Hey, maybe we can make this more exciting than the McDonald’s stuff. How about that? There’s no way,” Trump said.
Trump’s experience at the fry station, however, did not cause him to have more empathy for workers who make the $7.50/hour federal minimum wage. Asked if he supported raising the minimum wage while he stood in the drive-thru window, Trump pointedly dodged the question.
“Well, I think this: These people work hard. They’re great. And I just saw something – a process that’s beautiful,” he said. “It’s a beautiful thing.” (Harris supports raising the minimum wage, though her campaign has declined to name a specific dollar amount.)
Steele, greeting Trump on stage, applauded him for having a packed day, in what is normally the busiest stretch of the campaign: “What a day. You start off at a McDonald’s, you come to a town hall, then you end with Sunday night football. That man has some energy.”
AND FINALLY FROM “THE CRAZY PEOPLE SHOPPING AT WALMART” FILES
HAVE A GREAT DAY ALL!!!
