#RHOA: Kandi Burruss Talks RHOA Return and Shares Her Honest Thoughts on Season 16
The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum was asked about a potential series return during the Entertainment Community Fund Gala in New York City. “I’m just not there at this moment in my life,” she said during a red-carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I’m doing what I really love. But I’m supporting from afar.”
The comments came more than a year after Kandi announced she would not return to RHOA for Season 16. She dropped the shocking news ahead of the 66th Annual Grammy Awards, saying she was shifting her focus to other projects.
“I decided I’m not coming back this year,” she told Variety in February 2024. “I had started working on a lot of other things, and I got some nice big projects coming soon, so I’m super excited about those things. But it’s not just that… A friend of mine was like, ‘Why do you keep doing it?’ And I was like, ‘Well, I think because I’ve just been doing it for so long, it feels weird to think not to do it?’ So I was just like, ‘You know what? I’m going to take a break, I’m going to take a moment… I’m not coming back this year.’”
In the months since confirming her departure, Kandi has continued to make big moves within the entertainment realm. Her recent career highlights included a headlining North American tour with her singing group, XSCAPE, and her behind-the-scenes involvement in Broadway’s Othello.
But despite her busy schedule, Kandi has managed to keep up with RHOA Season 16, which premiered in early March. The ongoing season features Kandi’s former castmates Porsha Williams and Drew Sidora, as well as new Housewives Brit Eady, Kelli Ferrell, Angela Oakley, and Shamea Morton Mwangi, who is good friends with Kandi.
“It’s different. Obviously, it’s different,” Kandi said about the current season. “A lot of times, people get used to the people that they love, you know? But in order for a show to continue to go on and on and on, you gotta get to know new faces and new personalities. I have to say, my girl Shamea? She is bringing it!”
Although Kandi’s future with Bravo remains uncertain, her oldest daughter, Riley Burruss, will return to the network in Next Gen NYC. The new series, which premieres on June 3, will follow the New York University graduate and her group of friends as they navigate early adulthood in the Big Apple.
Riley will be joined by fellow Real Housewives kids Gia Giudice, Ariana Biermann, and Brooks Marks. The cast will be rounded out by Ava Dash, Hudson McLeroy, Emira D’Spain, Shai Fruchter, Georgia McCann, and Charlie Zakkour.
“I hope you guys support my daughter Riley Burruss,” Kandi said, referencing Next Gen NYC. “Y’all seen her grow up on the Real Housewives.”
While Riley is no stranger to reality TV (she was 6 when she made her Bravo debut), Kandi gave her firstborn a piece of advice before the cameras went up.
“I told her, ‘When you’re filming, stand on everything you say,’” she revealed, echoing Riley's recent comments to BravoTV.com. “‘Don’t ever go back and try to say you didn’t say something so they can rewind the tape on you. You have to own it, stand on it. And if you need to apologize, apologize, but don’t lie about saying stuff, because we be having a lot of liars on those shows…. We’re not doing that. We don’t mess up the Burruss name like that.’”

#NewMusic from Lalah Hathaway Joins Black Violin On Their New Single “Beautiful Day”

Classical-meets-hip-hop duo Black Violin link up with legendary R&B singer Lalah Hathaway for their brand new single “Beautiful Day”.
The song is the final single from their album “Full Circle” which has just released. The project was produced by Phil Beaudreau and marks a bold new chapter for the genre-defying duo. The duo also announced an extensive fall US tour. They add about the song: “‘Beautiful Day’ is a reminder that no matter the chaos that surrounds us, there is always beauty in the present moment. It’s about choosing to see the light, embracing the small joys, and grounding ourselves in the life that’s happening right now.”
LISTEN:
Black Violin members Wil Baptiste and Kev Marcus are now 20 years into their career upon the release of Full Circle. This new chapter is both a reckoning and a renewal, as they confront their past selves while evolving beyond them. The songs feel like natural extensions of their early work—refined, redefined, and charged with the paradox of returning and progressing all at once.

Jussie Smollett Reaches Settlement With The City Of Chicago In Hate Crime Hoax Lawsuit

Jussie Smollett has come to terms on an agreement with the city of Chicago, settling the $130,000 lawsuit tied to his notorious hate crime hoax from 2019. After a highly publicized trial, Smollett was eventually found guilty of filing a false police report claiming that he was attacked by two Trump supporters.
According to NBC, the settlement details have not been disclosed as each party needs “additional time is needed” to finalize the documentation.
Filed in January 2019, the city’s suit accused him of planning the attack, and “it sought $130,000 in expenses spent on the police investigation.”
In response, Smollett had filed a countersuit denying that he conceived the plot of the attack, and also denied making a false police report.
Both the city and Smollett told the court on Monday that they have settled “but need more time to finalize documentation.”
After Smollett testified to police that he was the victim of a hate crime for being Black and gay, he claimed that two men, brothers Ola and Abimbola Osundairo, attacked him, and they were arrested. Police later said Smollett paid the brothers to help him stage the attack.
In February 2019, Smollett was arrested and indicted by a grand jury in March on “suspicion of filing a false police report.” Eventually, Cook County State Attorney Kimberly Foxx dropped the charges.
When a special prosecutor took up the case in February 2020, Smollett was charged with six disorderly conduct counts and went to trial.
In December 2021, Smollett was found guilty on five counts of felony disorderly conduct for making false reports about a fake anti-gay/Black crime.
In March 2022, he was sentenced to 150 days in jail, 30 months of probation, and ordered to pay restitution of more than $120,000 and a $25,000 fine.

Kanye West Intends To Sue Dentist Over 'life-Altering' Harm

Kanye West has announced his intention to sue his former dentist, Thomas Connelly for causing “life-altering” harm to the rapper.
Connelly was previously the subject of claims from Yeezy employee Milo Yiannopolous who accused the dentist of getting West addicted to nitrous oxide.
In a notice of intent sent to Connelly, West and his wife, Bianca Censori, accuse the dentist of malpractice.
West was a patient of Connelly’s throughout 2024 and underwent several procedures with him and also supplied the rapper with nitrous oxide gas.
He directly accuses Connelly of causing him “life-altering harm caused by malice, misappropriation, and malpractice.”
The letter states: “Evidence shows that during the time Ye was under your care, you engaged in numerous inappropriate and dangerous practices that were far outside the bounds of any legitimate medical purpose or standard of care.
“These actions were not isolated incidents but rather part of a pattern of improper conduct by you from 2024 through 2025 while Ye was your patient. Ms. Censori, as Ye’s spouse, was a witness to and impacted by many of these events (some of which took place at their shared residence).”
Connelly is also accused of encouraging West to administer the gas himself and still continued to supply him with the addictive substance after the rapper began to display neurological problems
The letter states regarding the propofol incident: “As a result, in this instance, Ye suffered extreme mental and physical distress leading to urgent medical care. In another instance, evidence suggests additional improper usage of propofol or similar controlled substances when Ye had diminished capacity and was not aware of or capable of knowingly consent for the usage of this substance due.”
Propofol is an anaesthetic and was one of the drugs found in Michael Jackson’s system after his death in 2009.
Connelly has yet to respond to the letter and the claims contained within but did vehemently deny any wrongdoing when first accused by Yiannopoulos last year.

Beyoncé faces legal battle over Cowboy Carter tour visuals
Beyoncé finds herself entangled in a significant legal dispute with Sphere Entertainment Group following the debut of her “Cowboy Carter” tour visuals. The controversy centers around striking imagery that debuted during her opening night at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, featuring the superstar towering over the Las Vegas skyline and lifting the distinctive Sphere venue as though it were a mere toy. This bold, high-tech visual presentation immediately captivated audiences but has now drawn formal legal objections from the venue’s ownership.
The legal challenge represents an unexpected complication for the multi-Grammy winner as she embarks on what was already one of the year’s most anticipated concert tours. Industry observers note this situation highlights the increasing complexity of intellectual property rights in an era where concert productions increasingly rely on elaborate visual effects and recognizable landmarks to create memorable moments.

According to industry reports, Sphere Entertainment Group has formally issued a cease-and-desist letter to the singer, asserting that the tour visuals constitute unauthorized use of their distinctive venue design and intellectual property. Attorney Kathleen McCarthy, representing Sphere’s interests in this matter, emphasized that the footage was utilized without securing proper permissions—a critical oversight in the entertainment industry’s complex landscape of image rights.
The cease-and-desist communication specifically addresses the scale and presentation of the imagery, noting that Beyoncé appears many orders of magnitude larger than the Sphere venue as she interacts with the structure. This dramatic representation has inadvertently fueled speculation about a potential Beyoncé residency at the Sphere—rumors that gained traction last year when discussions between the parties reportedly occurred but ultimately failed to materialize into a formal agreement.
Due to the illegal and unauthorized use of Sphere in her tour promo video, James Dolan, CEO of Sphere Entertainment, has sent Beyonce and her team a cease and desist
The legal notice contains several specific demands directed at Parkwood Entertainment, Beyoncé’s production company. Most immediately, it requires the immediate cessation of any visuals incorporating the Sphere venue throughout the remainder of the tour. Beyond the performances themselves, the letter extends its demands to prohibit the use of this imagery in tour merchandise, promotional materials, and any potential tour films or documentaries.
Legal experts familiar with entertainment law note that failure to comply with these demands could expose Beyoncé and her production team to more serious legal consequences. Sphere’s legal representatives have indicated their readiness to pursue additional legal remedies should their concerns not be adequately addressed, potentially complicating the tour’s ambitious production schedule and international dates.
Despite this legal complication, Beyoncé‘s “Cowboy Carter” tour officially launched with tremendous fanfare and critical acclaim. Supporting her groundbreaking country-inspired album of the same name, the tour represents another bold artistic evolution for the performer who has consistently redefined genre boundaries throughout her career.
The concert series has an ambitious itinerary spanning numerous major U.S. cities before concluding with high-profile international performances in London and Paris scheduled for July. Industry insiders note that while the legal situation presents a challenge, Beyoncé’s experienced team has navigated complex production issues throughout her illustrious career.
This dispute illuminates the increasingly complex intersection between artistic vision and intellectual property rights in modern entertainment. As concert productions grow more technologically sophisticated and visually ambitious, the legal framework governing the use of recognizable landmarks, venues, and architectural elements becomes increasingly significant.
Entertainment attorneys observing the situation note that while artists continuously push creative boundaries with their visual presentations, obtaining appropriate permissions remains essential—particularly when incorporating distinctive architectural structures or venues with established intellectual property protections.
The ultimate resolution of this dispute carries significance beyond Beyoncé’s current tour. As visual technologies continue advancing and concert experiences become increasingly immersive, this case may establish important precedents regarding how artists can reference or incorporate recognizable venues and landmarks in their productions.
Industry experts suggest this situation underscores the necessity for entertainment companies to develop more comprehensive frameworks addressing these evolving challenges, particularly as the boundaries between physical venues and digital representations continue blurring in contemporary productions.
For Beyoncé’s legions of fans, the legal complications remain secondary to the artistic experience of her groundbreaking tour. However, the situation demonstrates that even the most established and influential artists must navigate an increasingly complex landscape of intellectual property considerations as they push the boundaries of creative expression in their performances.
‘Mad TV’ Reunion Gets Real When Aries Spears Admits To Being A “Cheater” And “Not A Good Father”

Sketch comedy fans got a treat this week via comic Bobby Lee’s TigerBelly podcast, where he brought together his fellow MadTV alums Debra Wilson, Aries Spears, and Mo Collins.
The reunion caught the foursome and co-host Khalyla Kuhn casually shooting the sh*t for much of the show, with Wilson at one point stressing that she’s “happier than a motherf**ker in a mansion.”
“I want to be the motherf**ker with the mansion,” Spears retorts, admitting that certain material achievements are important to him, leading him to compare himself to others, like Kevin Hart. Wilson then attempts to convince the Jerry Maguire actor to stop comparing himself to others as Kuhn questions if Spears would be truly happy if he magically possessed these material desires.
“I would be happy if I got that, plus the things that really matter,” Spears replied, further explaining, “I’m not a good father to my kids. I want to tighten up my relationships with my sons.”
“Do that, and maybe the mansion will follow,” Collins’ interjected, causing Lee to burst out in laughter.
Spears then further confessed, “And as much as I love the woman I want to marry for the third time, I cheat. I f**k other women.” He then added that he still desires that “exterior sh*t” that he’s always dreamed of, and also wants to be a better man. When asked by Collins which one is in his control, Spears offers, “why not both?”
Wilson then jumps in to address the Bobby to her Whitney, telling Spears that he is “bankrupt” for pining over material things while his family life is in disarray.
“You’re never gonna be rich out there, you know why? Because you’re bankrupt. You’re bankrupt, Aries,” Wilson told the stand-up. “Aries, you’re bankrupt on the inside. But my thing is this: you don’t have to be. I know you. You’re a good man. If you want to be a good father, continue to be a good man. I know you, Aries, so don’t f**k with me.”
“Don’t go for the outside sh*t, it won’t make you happy,” she went on, “You can be a good father right now. You can be a good man to your wife right now.” WATCH BELOW

Gregg Popovich Steps Down As Spurs Head Coach, Remains Team President
Gregg Popovich, the iconic head coach of the San Antonio Spurs, is stepping away from his position, but not leaving the NBA entirely. The 76-year-old legend, who took a leave of absence in November after suffering a mild stroke, will now serve as the Spurs team president.
Popovich’s decision marks the end of an era, as he steps down from a 29-season tenure that saw him become one of the greatest coaches in NBA history. Reportedly, in his career, Popovich amassed a record-breaking 1,422 regular-season wins, five NBA championships, and six NBA Finals appearances.
The icon’s departure from the sidelines comes after the Spurs gave him space to decide his future following his health scare. In a statement, Popovich expressed his love for the game but acknowledged that the time had come to step away as head coach. “While my love and passion for the game remain, I’ve decided it’s time to step away as head coach,” he shared. “I’m forever grateful to the wonderful players, coaches, staff, and fans who allowed me to serve them as the Spurs head coach.”
As Popovich moves into his new role as president, the Spurs have hired Mitch Johnson as their full-time head coach, after filling in as interim head coach for 77 games during the 2024-25 season.
Popovich began his coaching career at Pomona-Pitzer before moving on to the NBA. His most notable achievement came in 1997 when he drafted Tim Duncan, and on to also tap stars like Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. The team went on to build a legacy that would win four more championships.
As head coach of Team USA, he also led the team to a gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, after a rocky seventh place finish in the 2019 FIBA World Cup. The Spurs’ chairman, Peter Holt, praised Popovich’s extraordinary impact on the organization and the game of basketball. “He is truly one-of-one as a person, leader, and coach,” Holt stated.

Marlon Wayans opens up about supporting transgender son

Marlon Wayans has embarked on a profound personal transformation alongside his son Kai, who has transitioned into a transgender man. The acclaimed comedian and actor, renowned for his performances in White Chicks and Scary Movie, recently shared his emotional evolution during a candid conversation on the IMO podcast hosted by Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson. His story illustrates how parental love can transcend conventional expectations and deepen through challenges.
Wayans describes his experience as a parallel transition, moving from initial disbelief to wholehearted acceptance within the span of a week. This accelerated journey of understanding reflects his commitment to maintaining his relationship with Kai above all other considerations. His experience mirrors the complex emotional process many parents navigate when their children reveal their authentic identities, though Wayans’ path to acceptance proved remarkably swift.
The path toward acceptance required Wayans to confront his own preconceptions about gender and identity. This introspective process ultimately strengthened his relationship with Kai, as it created space for authentic connection based on true understanding rather than expectations.
Wayans acknowledges experiencing the five stages of grief during his journey, ultimately arriving at what he describes as the beautiful, magical place of acceptance. This psychological framework helped him process his feelings while maintaining his commitment to supporting Kai. Through this challenging emotional terrain, Wayans discovered internal strengths he hadn’t previously recognized, emerging with deeper self-awareness alongside his renewed relationship with his son.
Wayans‘ unwavering support for Kai has come with social repercussions, as some relationships proved unable to withstand his family’s new reality. He acknowledges losing connections with individuals who objected to his acceptance on religious or personal grounds.
Rather than dwelling on these losses, Wayans emphasizes the expanded community he’s gained through his public advocacy. For every relationship that dissolved due to intolerance, he reports gaining approximately 150 supportive connections. This perspective reflects his commitment to surrounding his family with affirming relationships rather than compromising his son’s well-being for social conformity.
The comedian holds firm to his conviction that parental love should remain constant regardless of a child’s life choices or identity. He considers withdrawing love based on such factors a failure of parenting rather than a reasonable response to change.
Wayans maintains that supporting Kai through transition represents fulfillment of his fundamental parental duty. He firmly believes parents should provide unconditional support while children explore their identities, whether their journeys include permanent transitions or ongoing exploration. His stance prioritizes his son’s autonomy and happiness above conformity to conventional expectations.
True to his comedic roots, Wayans balances the emotional weight of this journey with characteristic humor. When discussing Kai on the Jennifer Hudson show, he notes that his son remains fundamentally the same person he’s always known—just with the addition of facial hair.
This ability to find levity amid profound change exemplifies Wayans’ resilience and demonstrates how humor can serve as a bridge to understanding complex situations. By maintaining his comedic perspective, he normalizes transgender experiences while acknowledging the fundamental continuity of personal relationships through transition.
Beyond supporting his own son, Wayans has emerged as a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ acceptance, particularly regarding transgender youth. His public discussion of his family’s experience contributes to broader social awareness and provides a model for other parents navigating similar circumstances.
Through interviews and podcast appearances, Wayans demonstrates how celebrities can use their platforms to foster greater understanding of transgender experiences. His willingness to share his journey publicly offers validation to other families while challenging stigma and misconceptions about transgender identity.
The comedian’s evolution from initial denial to passionate advocacy illustrates how personal experience can transform perspectives. By sharing his journey so openly, Wayans creates space for others to examine their own responses to transgender individuals in their lives, potentially accelerating their paths toward acceptance.
In a cultural landscape where transgender rights remain contested, Marlon Wayans stands as a powerful example of how love can transcend conventional expectations. His story reminds us that acceptance often requires personal growth, but ultimately strengthens family bonds through authentic connection.
WNBA icon Skylar Diggins files for divorce
WNBA fans now know why star player Skylar Diggins wants to drop her husband’s surname.
Turns out the Seattle Storm point guard filed for divorce from her husband, Daniel Smith, a few months ago but kept it on the low, according to TMZ.
Diggins didn’t mention that she filed for divorce during a press conference a few days ago, when the placard read “Skylar Diggins” instead of the normal “Skylar Diggins-Smith.”
When a media member inquired about her name plate, Diggins said, “Yes, it does say Skylar Diggins,” the Storm guard said. According to an X post from @ezimagbegoat. “Yes, it does say Skylar Diggins, and I would like to be addressed as that moving forward.”
Diggins continued, “Thank you guys so much, and as always, my focus is on being a great teammate, adding value to this team on and off the floor and in this community, and as always, being a good mom to my two babies.”
Diggins then paused before dropping a timely joke. “It won’t change for none of y’all anyways,” she said. “Some of y’all just call me whatever y’all wanna call me anyways.”
The former Notre Dame basketball star has been married to former Notre Dame football player Daniel Smith since 2017, and they have two children together, ages 6 and 2. TMZ states that Diggins and Smith were formerly separated in November 2024 and that she quietly filed for divorce officially in March 2025.

"Freakier Friday" is set to hit theaters on August 8, reuniting Lindsay Lohan, 38, and Jamie Lee Curtis, 66, the dynamic duo from the beloved 2003 body-swapping film.
While fans are thrilled to see Lohan and Curtis reprise their roles, director Nisha Ganatra, 50, has revealed that she "begged" Jodie Foster, 66, for a nostalgic cameo, but the star of the original 1976 "Freaky Friday" declined.
Ganatra shared with Entertainment Weekly, "We begged her. She's not going to do it." The director explained that they had planned to cast Foster as the principal at Lohan's character Anna's school, but she could not convince Foster to join the sequel.
The "Silence of the Lambs" star's reasons for refusing remain unknown.
"Freakier Friday" follows a similar plotline to the 2003 film, where Lohan and Curtis' characters, Anna and Tess, swap bodies, but with a modern twist. This time around, Anna, now a mother, and Tess find themselves swapping bodies with Anna's daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and her soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily (Sophia Hammons). The mix of old and new characters aims to bring fresh energy to the storyline while maintaining the heart that made the original film a success.
Despite the absence of Jodie Foster, Ganatra's film does pay homage to her portrayal in the original 1976 movie. The character of Harper, played by Butters, is inspired by Foster's "fun, amused, cool" persona from the earlier film, adding a layer of nostalgic charm.
"Freaky Friday" (2003) was a commercial success, grossing $160.8 million on a $26 million budget and earning Curtis a Golden Globe nomination.
As Curtis aptly put it, "It's the reason you go to the movies - it's the reason you go to a Disney movie... To have a moment where all of a sudden you're going to reach over and hold the hand of the person sitting next to you, if it's your mom, grandma, friend… You're going to be moved by it."
Get ready to experience the magic of "Freakier Friday" in theaters on August 8.

Rihanna And ASAP Rocky Steal Clothes From Each Other “All The Time”

ASAP Rocky and Rihanna apparently can't resist stealing each other's clothes, he hilariously admitted on Thursday (May 1). During Vogue’s “The Run-Through” podcast, the “Fashion Killa” rapper opened up about items mysteriously disappearing from his wardrobe, only to realize the culprit was his equally stylish partner.
“For me, it’s not fair that my girl could just go in my closet and take anything from it and wear it,” the Harlem rapper told the publication’s Leah Faye Cooper and Chioma Nnadi. “She does it to me all the time, man! Sometimes you just see her on an interview or see a paparazzi photo, like, ‘Wait, there goes my Miu Miu f**king jacket! What the f**k? I was looking for that since 2021!’”
Moments later, ASAP Rocky shared that he’s guilty of raiding Rihanna’s closet, too. “That goes both ways,” he joked. “She has pieces she [doesn't] know that I actually stole.” It shouldn’t really shock anyone, given that we’ve seen him embrace the skirt-over-pants trend, wear a kilt at the Met Gala and push plenty of other fashion boundaries — especially for menswear — throughout the years.
Speaking of the Met Gala, which he’s scheduled to co-chair on Monday (May 5), the TESTING creator revealed he still hasn’t locked down his look. “I’ma be totally transparent and honest with you, I don’t even know what the hell I’m wearing yet. That’s just how I do,” he confessed on the podcast. Of course, ASAP Rocky has a general vision for what he wants on the red carpet, but, according to him, “it’s not that easy” to actually pull it all together.
Though he skipped out on the 2024 Met Gala — possibly due to RiRi feeling under the weather — he absolutely delivered during the 2021 and 2023 events. With this year’s event clearly being a huge moment for him, we're definitely betting that he'll rock the carpet alongside his queen.

Sabrina Carpenter Crashes Quinta Brunson’s SNL Musical Monologue About Being Short, along with Tom Holland and Kendrick Lamar

“Abbott Elementary” star and creator Quinta Brunson is short and she isn’t afraid to flaunt it. Hosting “Saturday Night Live” for the second time on May 3, Brunson opted to deliver her opening monologue in musical form, breaking into song and singing about the many benefits and joys of being short. “Shorties, tonight, this one’s for us,” Brunson (flanked by dancers) said, shouting out perks like getting “wasted on one glass of wine” and wearing crop tops as dresses.
Brunson’s next verse shouted out some of Hollywood’s shortest, highest-achieving celebrities, including 4’8” Olympian Simone Biles, 5’7” actor Tom Holland and 5’5” “Not Like Us” rapper Kendrick Lamar. Continuing to dance and sing her way through the monologue, Brunson was joined on stage by “Short N’ Sweet” songstress Sabrina Carpenter, who joked about their mutual experiences being short. “When you eat short rib, does it just taste like rib? When you read short stories, are they just novels?”
Carpenter and Brunson continued the celebrity shoutouts with a reference to “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White (who’s 5’7”) and ended the number agreeing that life is “just more fun when you’re fun-sized.”
Though he didn’t take part in the number, the musical guest for Brunson’s second SNL episode is “Beautiful Things” singer Benson Boone, who made headlines with his breakout performance at Coachella last weekend.
In addition to appearing in the same “SNL” episode, Boone and Carpenter were both nominated for Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys, though the award ended up going to Chappell Roan.
Queen Latifah Breaks Silence on ‘The Equalizer’ Cancellation After 5 Seasons

*Queen Latifah opened up about CBS canceling “The Equalizer” after five thrilling seasons. She shared her heartfelt reaction on Instagram, calling her role as Robyn McCall “everything I hoped it would be.”
Latifah, who also served as executive producer, expressed pride in bringing the show to life with her partner Shakim Compere. “The Equalizer blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal.”
She thanked the cast, crew, and loyal fans, highlighting their dedication and support. Latifah reassured viewers, saying, “Don’t worry — I’ll be back kicking ass in something new real soon. Can’t wait to share it with you,” Deadline is reporting
The show’s cancellation came after CBS chose not to renew it for a sixth season. Talks of a shortened final season fell through despite budget concessions made by the production team.
The season five finale, which aired on May 4, 2025, ended the series. Showrunners designed it to serve as a satisfying conclusion for fans. Ratings had declined from 20 million at its 2021 debut to about 5 million by season five.
Sources pointed to financial concerns, including high production costs and Latifah’s salary, as major reasons for ending the series. Despite these challenges, the show maintained a devoted audience.
Other cast members also shared their feelings. Lorraine Toussaint, who played Aunt Vi, wrote on Instagram, “I am so grateful and moved that you loyal viewers who have so graciously welcomed us into your homes and your lives for 5 extraordinary seasons.”
Laya DeLeon Hayes, who portrayed Robyn’s daughter Delilah, called her role “an absolute gift.” She thanked the fans and reflected on the impact the show had on her personal and professional life.
Both actresses praised Queen Latifah and the entire production team for creating a powerful, meaningful show that resonated with audiences worldwide.
Fans quickly flooded social media with reactions to the news. Many expressed sadness and frustration, praising Latifah’s performance and the show’s unique focus on social justice.
One fan tweeted, “I’m so sad to hear The Equalizer is cancelled. Queen Latifah was phenomenal as Robyn McCall.” Another commented, “This is such a bummer. I loved watching Queen Latifah kick butt every week.”

The show also ranked first in USA TODAY’s 2025 “Save Our Shows” poll, beating out several other series. Fans viewed this as proof of the show’s lasting popularity and dedication. Filmed in New Jersey, including locations like Jersey City and Paterson, the series also brought visibility to local communities, adding authenticity to its gritty stories.
Though fans are sad to see The Equalizer end, Queen Latifah promised that new projects are already in the works. Her message of hope hints that she’s not done thrilling audiences just yet.

Fat Joe Announces the Death of His Mother Just Months After His Father’s Passing

Just months after announcing the death of his father, Fat Joe is now mourning the loss of his mother.
On Saturday, the Bronx rapper shared the heartbreaking news via Instagram that his beloved mother, Marie Del-Carmen Cartagena, has passed away. In an emotional tribute, Fat Joe honored her memory and reflected on the strength, love, and sacrifices she made for her family.
“This a real one, rest in peace to the woman who brought me in this world,” he wrote. “She didn’t have much but she gave us everything.” Joe described her as a selfless woman with a “heart of gold” who chose to remain in the projects despite his success, out of love for her community. Fondly referring to her as “Ms. Ruby the Terror Squad Queen,” he said she took pride in the entire crew, always asking about members like Remy Ma, DJ Khaled, and Rich.
Joe also shared his belief that his mother died of a broken heart, only months after the death of her husband of 60 years, Ernesto. “My Dad wanted her with him,” he expressed. Despite doing everything he could to keep her going, he felt her spirit longed to be reunited with her soulmate.
The post ended with Joe thanking his extended family for their support, vowing to continue making his mother proud. “Mommy, till I see you again… you were my world, my heart, my everything,” he wrote.
