#MAGFAB: Icon Harrison Ford for VARIETY on His First Emmy Nomination, Whether He’ll Retire

In a new cover story for VARIETY, film icon Harrison Ford sits down for a rare interview with Senior Entertainment Writer Angelique Jackson about receiving his first Emmy nomination for “Shrinking” and working with Michael J. Fox on the series’ third season. He also talks about if he’ll ever retire, and reflects on being in iconic films like “Star Wars,” “Apocalypse Now,” “Indiana Jones,” and more.
Ford on receiving his first Emmy nomination for “Shrinking”: “I don’t think there’s anything competitive about creativity, and I don’t understand the need to compare and contrast one person’s work to another’s. If you like it, you like it; if you don’t like it, look at something else. I’m grateful, but I would have done what I did — and I’ll do what I’m doing — regardless of whether it’s deemed worthy of mention or not. Because it’s what I do. It’s what I love doing. I love telling stories. I love pretending to be somebody else.”

On working with Michael J. Fox in Season 3: Ford’s character, Paul, has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Ford says that it was “essential” to talk to Fox as Paul continues to deal with his disease.

“Michael’s courage, his fortitude and his grace, more than anything else, is on full display. He’s a very smart, very brave, noble, generous, passionate guy, and an example to all of us, whether we’re facing Parkinson’s or not. You cannot help but recognize how amazing it is to have such grace. So he gives me both a physical representation of the disease to inform myself with, but more than that, he allows me to believe that Paul could believe that he could be adequate to the challenge. The truth is that we can’t be fucking around with this just to make a joke or anything. Parkinson’s is not funny. And I want to get it right. It’s necessary to be correct with what we do in respect of the challenge that Parkinson’s represents, and that we don’t use it for its entertainment value.”

On if he will ever retire: “No. That’s one of the things I thought was attractive about the job of an actor, was that they need old people, too, to play old people’s parts.”

On improvising Han Solo’s famous response, “I know,” after Leia tells him she loves him in “The Empire Strikes Back”: “I was supposed to say, ‘I love you too,’ and I thought that was a little un-Han Solo-ish. I thought it was a little banal. So I said no, and [director] Irvin Kershner agreed with me. George [Lucas], when he saw it, was not so sure, and made me sit next to him at the screening of the film the first time we ran it for an audience. They laughed, but it was a good laugh, so we kept it in. Thank you, George.”

On his friendships with Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill: “I had a special relationship with both of them. Carrie had a very inspired wit and very special manner. She’s also very smart, very funny. Both of them were dear friends — are dear friends.”
On working with Francis Ford Coppola on “Apocalypse Now”: “I played a character that I named myself. He wore his name proudly on his uniform. The name was L-U-C-A-S, Lucas. I played a small part, an American soldier who gives Captain Willard [Martin Sheen] the assignment to kill Colonel Kurtz [Marlon Brando]. I play a very nervous guy with a funny haircut. I went down to the Philippines and shot my part of it right after one of the ‘Star Wars’ movies, and when George Lucas first saw the movie, he didn’t know the character was me, even though he was named Lucas. An Easter egg, I now understand it to be.”

On being able to complete Indiana Jones’ journey with “Dial of Destiny”: “Well, I wanted to see him as an older man facing the consequences of the life that he had lived. But I couldn’t imagine that we were going to end up doing five of them. I didn’t expect success. In the movie business, you always go in wanting to be successful, but you don’t always expect to be. I did expect the first film would be wildly successful. I read it very quickly, one time. I’d been asked by George Lucas to go and meet Steven Spielberg, who I didn’t know, and he sent me a script to read. I thought it was great. And then I went to meet Steven, we spent about an hour together and suddenly I had a job.”

On accidentally punching Ryan Gosling during “Blade Runner 2049”: “[We were rehearsing a fight] and we got too close and I hit him. I apologized right away. What more could I do? Can’t take back a punch. Just take it. He’s a very handsome man. He’s still very handsome.”

On whether Kevin Feige has asked him to come back to Marvel after “Captain America: Brave New World”: “Nope.”

On being told he didn’t have a future in film by a studio executive at the beginning of his career: “I was under contract to Columbia Pictures at the time for $150 a week and all the respect that that implies. I was called into the office of the head of the new talent program, and he told me that I had no future in the business. Which was OK. And then he asked me to get my hair cut like Elvis Presley. That I didn’t go along with…He thought that ‘Harrison Ford’ was too pretentious a name for a young man…I met him later, across a crowded dining room. He sent me a card on which he’d written, ‘I missed my guess.’ I looked around, couldn’t remember which one he was, but then he nodded at me and smiled, and I thought, ‘Oh yeah, I know you.’”

On the impact of his plane accident ten years ago: “I’ve been through a couple of big accidents that took a while to heal from. This is not something dismissed lightly, but shit happens; it was a mechanical issue that was judged to be beyond my control. If I’d been at fault, I would have taken another direction. But I don’t think it informs my life on a day-to-day basis now that I’ve recovered sufficiently from the physical effects.”

Ford confirms the accident did not change him as an actor.

#RHOA: Kenya Moore’s Hair Spa Accused of Owing $44k in Rent and Fees, ‘RHOA’ Alum’s Company Denies Claim
Former Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kenya Moore has been battling the landlord for her hair spa over alleged unpaid rent — which she adamantly denies,
According to court documents obtained by Us, Moore’s company Moore Vision Media is accused of owing nearly $44k in past-due rent and other charges. The claims were made by Northland Chamblee, the landlord for the reality star’s business in Georgia.

On Monday, July 28, the landlord demanded the court intervene and help them take possession of the property in question. It said it served Moore’s company weeks ago but the issue of “possession [of the property] remains unresolved.”

The legal drama started back in April when the landlord sued Moore Vision Media Inc.
Moore is the CEO of Moore Vision Media Inc, according to state records. The RHOA alum opened her hair spa in the community at an apartment building owned by the landlord.

In the initial filing, the landlord accused Moore’s company of owing $21,897.40 in unpaid rent due from December 2024 to April 2024 ($4,379.48 per month).
The complaint demanded $148 per day until Moore’s company vacated the premises. In addition, the suit asked for $5,909 in operating expenses, taxes, storage charges, utilities and other fees.

In June, a lawyer for Moore Vision Media denied the claims and filed a counterclaim against the landlord.
The counterclaim accused the landlord of failing to pay money for “tenant improvements” as “required by the contract.” Moore’s company said it had to use its own funds to “maintain, repair, rehabilitate and improve the subject property to render the property usable and able to be occupied for its intended use under the parties lease.”

The lease agreement was submitted as evidence in the legal battle. One of the provisions of the deal read, “Landlord acknowledges that Tenant occasionally permits filming at its location for the television production of Real Housewives of Atlanta. Landlord agrees that Tenant may permit filming by the RHOA film crew solely within its premieres.”

Per the agreement, Moore had to obtain approval for filming beforehand. In addition, the deal said, “The RHOA Film Crew may not stage its filming or set up its crew within, or otherwise use or obstruct, any common areas of the Project without Landlord’s prior approval, which approval shall not be unreasonably withheld, conditioned or delayed,” another provision read.

Kenya’s publicist Shannon Barr tells Us, “Kenya Moore entered a commercial lease and invested over $300,000 to build out her luxury hair spa. The landlord agreed in writing to reimburse Moore approximately $80,000 for tenant improvements but failed to make payment.”
Barr added, “As a result of the landlord’s filing, Moore filed a countersuit. Despite the legal action, Moore remains hopeful the landlord will act in good faith and resolve the matter fairly and amicably.”

According to reports, on July 26, Moore announced she had not signed for season 17 of Real Housewives of Atlanta.
She claims producers hired two new Housewives for next season, Moore said, “I do know that they are adding two new Housewives to the team. They are adding two new housewives, I think you guys kinda know them both. One is a businessperson. The other one is actually from Love & Hip Hop … so, yeah, there’s that.”

Moore filmed part of season 16 but stopped filming after an issue with costar Brit Eady.
Eady, who was a newbie for season 16, announced she was not returning for another season on July 15. The decision came days after she sued Bravo for $20 million for alleged intentional infliction of emotional distress and a hostile work environment.

#NewMusic from Tasha Cobbs Leonard Feat John Legend Has a New Song ‘Church’
John Legend returns to his roots with his guest appearance on gospel singer Tasha Cobbs Leonard‘s new song “Church.”
On the Kenneth Leonard Jr.-produced track, Leonard and Legend unlock the power of leaning on their faith — not just inside the sanctuary, but in everyday life.

“God, it’s just / You and me now / Tell me what to do now / Teach me how to have church on a Monday,” Leonard sings. Legend echoes in the third verse, “Now I’m understanding / You’re more than a building / When the service is over / I’ll still be singing.”
“Working with John Legend on ‘Church’ was an incredible experience—his talent, authenticity, and heart made this collaboration so special,” says Leonard.

She continues, “Together, we created a song that captures the essence of finding sacred moments in our everyday lives. It’s an invitation to connect, to heal, and to feel the power of faith and community no matter where you are.”
“Church” appears on Leonard’s debut studio album, TASHA, which was released July 25 via Motown Gospel. The album features additional collaborations with Kirk Franklin, Lecrae, and Chandler Moore.

With gospel at its core, TASHA incorporates a mix of pop, hip-hop, and ’80s R&B. “This album is the truest expression of who I am right now,” says Leonard.
“It’s vulnerable, it’s honest, it’s joyful — and it’s rooted in everything I believe about God meeting us exactly where we are. We didn’t hold back in the writing or the production. Every song is a piece of my journey, and I hope people find their own stories in it too.”
This fall, Tasha Cobbs Leonard will embark on her Whole & Free Tour. The tour will visit Chicago, Brooklyn, Baltimore, Atlanta, Birmingham and more. It will wrap up Nov. 9 at Orpheum Theatre in Memphis. Tickets are available at tashacobbsleonard.com.

As for Legend, “Church” follows his duet with Norah Jones, “Summertime Blue,” released in June.
On Aug. 23, Legend will launch the North American leg of his Get Lifted 20th Anniversary Tour at Ravinia in Chicago.
From there, he will play in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Houston, Atlanta, New York, Philadelphia and Toronto, before concluding Dec. 9 in Oakland. The tour is in celebration of his lauded debut album, Get Lifted, released in 2004.

#HipHopNews: GloRilla and T-Pain To Be Honored at 2025 BMI R&B/Hip Hop Awards

GloRilla is being recognized with the BMI Impact Award for her breakout success and rising influence in Hip Hop.
T-Pain is being honored with the BMI President’s Award for his decades-long legacy in R&B and Hip Hop.
The 2025 BMI R&B/Hip Hop Awards will take place on Aug. 28 in Los Angeles.

GloRilla and T-Pain will be honored at the 2025 BMI R&B/Hip Hop Awards. The annual event is going down in August at a private ceremony in Los Angeles.
On Tuesday (July 29), BMI announced that Big Glo will be receiving the BMI Impact Award for her “groundbreaking artistry, creative vision, and influence on the future of music.” Glo hit the music industry like a rocket when her 2022 song “F.N.F. (Let's Go)” went viral. She’s been making hits ever since, signing with Memphis rap OG Yo Gotti's record label, Collective Music Group (via Interscope), and releasing her debut album, Glorious, in October 2024.

“This year’s Impact Award recipient GloRilla’s bold voice and fearless creativity is currently shaping and inspiring the future of Hip Hop, making her the perfect choice for this honor,” said Catherine Brewton, BMI’s vice president, creative, Atlanta, in a press statement. “It’s going to be an incredible night highlighting the exceptional artistry of all BMI’s award-winning songwriters, producers, and publishers, who are the creative visionaries of the music industry.”
Earlier in 2025, Glo was presented with the Powerhouse Award at Billboard Women in Music thanks to an incredible 2024. Clearly, the “Yeah Glo!” rapper isn’t losing momentum, as she recently performed at the WNBA All-Star Game on Saturday, July 19 and held her inaugural Glo Bash concert (which brought the “The Glorious Tour” to a close) on Friday (July 25) night at the FedExForum in Memphis.

As for T-Pain, the R&B and Hip Hop icon is receiving the BMI President’s Award as a nod to a hitmaking career that has now spanned decades and generations, along with two Grammy Awards and millions of albums sold. Previous recipients have included Ludacris, Pitbull and more.
GloRilla is off to a great start in reaching the type of accolades T-Pain has achieved. But recently, she hit a minor speed bump due to an arrest on drug charges. The young star was released on bond the same day and was actually the victim of a home invasion (she was away at the time), which is what led to the alleged drug bust.

The 2025 BMI R&B/Hip Hop Awards will be held on Thursday, Aug. 28 in Los Angeles.

Shannon Sharpe speaks out on his ESPN firing after settling $50m rape lawsuit
Shannon Sharpe has broken his silence after being axed by ESPN in the wake of his settled rape lawsuit - accusing the network of ignoring his request to delay the announcement until next week.
The former NFL tight end-turned TV star was hit with a bombshell $50million lawsuit back in April after a woman, identified as one of his ex-girlfriends, accused him of raping her on two occasions over the course of their relationship.

Sharpe, who denied the allegations, stepped away from his part-time duties with ESPN and vowed to return later in the year once he had proved his innocence.
Yet just weeks after the accuser reached a settlement and retracted the allegations, it was revealed on Wednesday that he has been fired by ESPN after almost two years.

Sharpe addressed his shock departure later in the evening, saying at the start of his 'Nightcap' podcast: 'Obviously, I'm sure everybody's heard the news by now that I will not be returning to ESPN.
'I found out this information a little earlier in the week, and really the only thing that I really asked is, "Guys, could we wait until Monday? My brother's going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, I really want it to be about him and I want it to be about my family."

'I said, "This coming out will overshadow everything he's worked his entire life for." And unfortunately it didn't happen that way.'
Sharpe's younger brother, Sterling, is set to be officially inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame at an enshrinement ceremony in Canton, Ohio next week, 14 years after his older sibling received the same honor.
Sterling, 60, spent all seven years of his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers, where he became a five-time Pro Bowl and three-time All-Pro wide receiver while leading the league in receptions in three separate seasons. Shannon is a three-time Super Bowl champion who enjoyed two successful stints with the Denver Broncos and a brief spell with the Baltimore Ravens in his 13-year career.

After stressing that he 'really enjoyed' his time with ESPN and that he was 'very, very grateful for the opportunity', Sharpe stressed that he was disappointed to upstage his brother with the news of his axing.
'They did what they felt they needed to do, and I'm at peace with that,' he added about his now-former employers. 'But I just wish this thing could have waited until Monday, because I hate the fact that I've overshadowed my brother.
'The first two brothers in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and this is what the headline's gonna be for the next few days.'

Shannon then sent a message to Sterling after revealing he had told him not to apologize earlier in the day. 'Bro, I know you told me I don't have to apologize, but I'm gonna do it one final time tonight and I won't apologize again,' he added.

'I'm sorry that I upstaged you in this manner. That was never my intent. You've been my hero, you've been my role model from as long as I can remember.
He spent close to two years with the network after joining 'First Take' back in August 2023
Sharpe says the news has upstaged his older brother Sterling (right) ahead of his official Pro Football Hall of Fame induction next week, 14 years after he received the same honor (pictured)

'I apologize and I thank all my fans for supporting me, when I was at ESPN and every place that I've been - be it Club Shay Shay, Nightcap, Undisputed, ESPN. Thank you guys for your support.'
The Athletic's Andrew Marchand was the first to report ESPN's decision, which was later confirmed by Daily Mail.
Sharpe spent close to two years with the network after joining popular sports talk show 'First Take' in August 2023. He had departed Fox Sports program 'Undisputed' two months prior.

Asked by Daily Mail if the decision was impacted by the lawsuit or the settlement, an ESPN spokesperson declined to comment. Stephen A. Smith, the network's biggest star and a First Take co-host, previously stated his belief in Sharpe's innocence.
Details of Sharpe's settlement with his accuser have not been revealed publicly.
He was first accused of raping the Plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, in October of 2024, before allegedly doing so again in January after arriving at her home with promises of Christmas and birthday gifts, according to her original complaint.

After filing the lawsuit, Buzbee produced audio of Sharpe seemingly threatening the Plaintiff.
'… I'm gonna f***ing choke the s*** out of you when I see you,' the 56-year-old Sharpe is heard telling the woman.
Sharpe's attorney at the time claimed his client was speaking 'in the heat of the moment' and the violent threat was 'not intended.'

Details of Sharpe's settlement with his former accuser have not been revealed publicly
Furthermore, Buzbee alleged that Sharpe offered Doe a 'hefty sum' to settle the case in February, only for the plaintiff to decline the payoff. Five months later an agreement was then reached.

'After protracted and respectful negotiations, I'm pleased to announce that we have reached a mutually agreed upon resolution,' Texas-based attorney Tony Buzbee, who represented the accuser, said earlier this month.
'All matters have now been addressed satisfactorily, and the matter is closed. The lawsuit will thus be dismissed with prejudice.'
A spokesperson for Sharpe's legal team declined comment to Daily Mail at the time, explaining that Buzbee's statement would be the final word on the matter.

Tyler Perry Confirms ‘Why Did I Get Married 3’ Is In The Works

It’s official! Tyler Perry is reuniting the cast of his hit franchise, Why Did I Get Married?, for a third installment.
The entertainment mogul took to Instagram on Wednesday (July 30) with news of the film. In a cryptic post of the script’s title page, Perry wrote, “I’m just gonna sit this right here!”

The photo also read “Table Draft,” which could mean that production has begun or will begin soon.
He tagged the entire leading cast: Jill Scott, Lamman Rucker, Richard T. Jones, Janet Jackson, Sharon Leal, Michael Jai White, and Tasha Smith. Denise Boutte, who plays Trina, rallied for herself in the comments. “Who thinks Trina needs a comeback?!?!,” she quipped.

Smith commented, “Are we going to be TOGETHER AGAIN,” and later reposted the photo with a simple caption: “BOOM.” Fans of the franchise will immediately recognize the reference from the first movie and the infamous dinner table scene it accompanied.
Interest in a new Why Did I Get Married? began in October 2024 when Jones posted a video on TikTok mid-flight joking about his character leaving Sheila (Scott) behind, forcing her to drive up the mountain to save her marriage. It sparked a domino effect where each cast member sans Jackson replied with videos of their own and the buzz remained.

Dreams seemed to become a reality days later when Perry shared a photo of what appeared to be the script’s first draft. Back in April, hope was lost when Smith told The Breakfast Club that it’s “probably not happening” and it’s been radio silent across the board until now.
There’s no word on when Why Did I Get Married Again? will premiere in theaters or on a streaming platform.

Pres. Donald Trump “Seriously Considering” A Diddy Pardon Ahead Of Trial Sentencing
Following Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal trial for racketeering, sex trafficking, and prostitution — and his conviction on the latter charge — he may walk away from it all, if Pres. Donald Trump has his way.

According to Deadline, Trump is “seriously considering” giving Combs a full presidential pardon ahead of his sentencing later this year.
For months, Trump has “entertained” pardoning Diddy and several of his associates have been nudging the idea, as well with insiders confirming to the outlet that this thought is more than “just another Trump weave to an actionable event.” However, nothing has been confirmed.

Combs’ request to be released from Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center has been denied numerous times along with a $50 million bond. His legal team filed a motion once more this week, which detailed restrictions on Combs’ travel and who he interacts with.
“The prosecution and continued incarceration of Sean Combs are unique in the history of the Mann Act,” the motion read. “Sean Combs should not be in jail for this conduct.”

Judge Subramanian gave the prosecution and the defense a July 30 deadline to put together a detailed proposal on what letting Combs out would look like.
Combs could spend up to three years in federal prison following his sentencing on October 3 and the sentence would include time served. Prosecutors are seeking maximum sentencing.

Combs’ defense team, led by Marc Agnifilo and Teny Gerago, had “no comment” on the rumored pardon and White House officials said in a statement, “The White House will not comment on the existence or nonexistence of any clemency request.”
When the mixed verdict came in from Combs’ trial, Trump spoke on a potential pardon and said he’d “certainly look at the facts if I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t like me.”

Breezy Swimwear Sues Chris Brown For Alleged Trademark Infringement Over “Breezy Bowl”

Chris Brown‘s Breezy Bowl XX Tour has touched down in Miami on Wednesday (July 30) to kick off its American leg, however, the title of the trek is being challenged by a Florida swimwear line that has been using the name for years. Breezy Swimwear is suing the singer and Live Nation for allegedly infringing on the trademark in place.
Court documents obtained by TMZ show the complaint was filed today accusing Brown and his team of “eclipsing” the Miami-based swimwear brand with “copy-cat branding.” Attorney John Hoover told the outlet: “Celebrities do not get to overwrite small-business names just because they are famous.”

Breezy Swimwear’s CEO Kris Izquierdo posted the suit on his Instagram, showing it reads: “This trademark action seeks to stop Defendants’ junior ‘Breezy Bowl’ swim line and ‘Breezy Bowl XX’ global tour from eclipsing the goodwill of Breezy Swim, a Miami women-empowerment label whose registered slogan is ‘Every Body is a Bikini Body.'”
The suit explains the brand has been using “Breezy Bowl” as the name of its annual event. “Since 2018, Breezy Swim has sold Breezy-branded swimwear worldwide, and since 2023, staged the Breezy Bowl-an open-call show that welcomes models of every shape, size, age, and experience level,” it went on.

The case also referenced the fan confusion the tour title has caused. It included a message from a potential model who initially inquired participating in a fashion show, but then asked, “OK is Chris Brown gonna be there?” Izquierdo also says he has been using an Instagram page (@breezybowl) to promote his Breezy Bowl events, and the “Run It” singer’s fans regularly get confused and contact the wrong IG account.

Per Breezy Swimwear’s site, the company aims to promote female empowerment and encourage confidence through their designs. “Our mission is all about female empowerment! Here at Breezy Swim we want females to feel confident in swimwear, regardless of age or body shape. Breezy Swim caters to all shapes and sizes inspired by women globally,” reads the About Us section. “Our swimwear gives us the chance for women to feel their best and to take on the world, no matter where they come from!”

Kamala Harris says she won't run for governor of California in 2026
The decision could give her greater leeway for a presidential run in 2028.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris will not run for California governor in 2026, after months of considering the prospect of being the chief executive of her home state.

"In recent months, I have given serious thought to asking the people of California for the privilege to serve as their Governor. I love this state, its people, and its promise. It is my home. But after deep reflection, I've decided that I will not run for Governor in this election," she said in a statement released Wednesday.

The decision could give Harris greater leeway for a presidential run in 2028, an option she has yet to rule out. Harris said she would share "more details in the months ahead" about her plans.
"I have extraordinary admiration and respect for those who dedicate their lives to public service—service to their communities and to our nation. At the same time, we must recognize that our politics, our government, and our institutions have too often failed the American people, culminating in this moment of crisis," Harris said. "As we look ahead, we must be willing to pursue change through new methods and fresh thinking -- committed to our same values and principles, but not bound by the same playbook."
Harris announced this decision after months of reflecting how to best contribute to the Democratic Party after her presidential election loss, she said.

"I am a devout public servant, and from the earliest days of my career, I have believed that the best way I could make a difference in people's lives and fight for a better future was to improve the system from within. And it has been a profound honor to do that work and serve the people of California and our nation -- as a prosecutor, Attorney General, United States Senator, and Vice President," said Harris.

Over the past several months Harris has waded back into politics, appearing virtually at a young voters summit earlier this month and an abortion rights advocacy group in June. Her joint fundraising committee with the Democratic National Committee, the Harris Victory Fund, has begun fundraising on behalf of former North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's new Senate bid as well.
Harris said despite not running for governor, she was finding other ways to "remain in that fight" for "freedom, opportunity, fairness, and the dignity of all."

"I look forward to getting back out and listening to the American people, helping elect Democrats across the nation who will fight fearlessly, and sharing more details in the months ahead about my own plans," Harris said.

Gilbert Arenas accused of hosting high-end, illegal poker games at L.A. rental home
Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas and a half-dozen other people are alleged to have run high-end, illegal poker games at a Los Angeles home rented by the player known as “Agent Zero,” federal authorities said Wednesday.
The eight were charged in connection with games conducted from Sept. 12, 2021, to July 20, 2022, charging documents say.

Arenas "would rent out a residence located on Gable Drive in Encino," a suburban neighborhood of Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley, "for the purpose of hosting illegal poker games," prosecutors said in court records.
While hosting a cash poker game isn't illegal by definition, the operation crossed into a criminal act as organizers would "collect a 'rake' — that is, a fee the house would charge from each pot either as a percentage or a fixed amount per hand," according to charging documents.

The operation even included a poker felt labeled "ARENAS POKER CLUB" with the image of Arenas in his basketball uniform and the famed No. Zero, officials said.
Arenas pleaded not guilty at an arraignment Wednesday, and he was released on $50,000 bond, the Justice Department said.
Arenas played 11 seasons in the NBA, including parts of eight campaigns for the Washington Wizards.

For a three-season stretch from 2004 to 2007, Arenas was one of pro basketball's most prolific scorers, pouring in 25.5, 29.3 and 28.4 points per game in those years.

But his ' NBA career might also be as well-known for a weapons incident with Wizards teammate Javaris Crittenton in December 2009.
Also charged are: Yevgeni Gershman, Evgenni Tourevski, Allan Austria, Yarin Cohen, Arthur Kats, Ievgen Krachun and Valentina Cojocari, according to the indictment.

All but Cojocari were named in the first two counts of conspiracy and conducting illegal gambling.
Arenas was accused of making false statements to investigators in the third count.
Gershman and Cojocari were accused in another count of conspiracy.
Federal authorities accused Gershman, an Israeli citizen, and Cojocari, an American, of entering into a phony marriage to evade "immigration laws of the United States," documents said.
Gershman and Cojocari were accused of misusing of a visa in the fifth count, the charging paperwork said.
Cojocari made false statements in an immigration application, authorities alleged.

Tourevski and Cohen were both ordered released on $50,000 bond, and Krachun, Austria and Cojocari were released on $10,000 bond, which Austria is appealing, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California.

All have pleaded not guilty, the office said.'Significant turbulence' leaves 25 hospitalized after Delta flight diverts
Authorities are still looking for Kats, it said.
The card players were treated well at games, prosecutors said.
Gershman "would hire young women who, in exchange for tips, would serve drinks, provide massages and offer companionship to players at the Gable House," according to the indictment.

And in turn, Gershman, Tourevski, Austria and Cohen "would charge the woman a 'tax' — that is, a percentage of the women's earnings from working the games," according to the charging document.
Those four were also responsible for hiring "chefs, valets and armed security for the illegal poker games," prosecutors said.
The games involved dozens of people, as exemplified by a July 19-20 get-together in Encino, "which included approximately 26 players and over a dozen staff working the game," the charging document said.

The defendants were picked up without incident Wednesday by Los Angeles police and agents with Homeland Security Investigations and the IRS.
A trial date has been set for Sept. 23, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Candace Parker Criticizes WNBA Players For Wearing ‘Pay Us What You Owe Us’ Shirts During All-Star Game w/o Playing Hard: ‘It Was Awful’
Candace Parker recently shared her critical thoughts on WNBA players wearing statement shirts during what she called an “awful” All-Star game.
Speaking on her podcast Post Moves, co-hosted with Indiana Fever player Aliyah Boston, Candace reflected on players wearing shirts during the game that read: “Pay Us What You Owe Us.”

Candace, a former WNBA star turned sports analyst, explained that while she supports the message, she felt the players should’ve backed it up with a stronger performance on the court.
She stated: “I think it was an opportunity… on one of the biggest stages….I just think it would’ve really maximized the moment, wearing the shirts, and also delivering the product.”

Adding: “I tried to watch the All-Star game… I’m a fan of the WNBA, and I couldn’t watch this.”
Although Aliyah attempted to defend the players, saying the All-Star game is meant to be fun and lighthearted, Candace emphasized that it was a missed chance to show the world why they deserve better pay and more respect.

Do you agree with Candace’s take, or is she putting too much pressure on a game that’s supposed to be fun?

Kim Kardashian’s Skims release face shapewear

Kim Kardashian’s shapewear line Skims has debuted a new product, for the face.Yes, you read that right.
On Tuesday the brand released the seamless sculpt face wrap and it sold out immediately online.

“Our first-ever face innovation is here. This must-have face wrap boasts our signature sculpting fabric and features collagen yarns for ultra-soft jaw support. Velcro closures at the top and nape of the neck allow for easy, everyday wear,” the description reads.
The $48 wrap comes in two colors: clay and cocoa.
Users are advised to wear it while sleeping, then take it off in the morning for a more sculpted jawline and face shape.

The item is being described as “a must-have addition to your nightly routine.”
The item follows the popular “morning shed” TikTok trend, which is the process of removing removing skincare and beauty products applied before bed, like sheet masks, mouth tape, chin straps and hair bonnets.

Some plastic surgeons tell PEOPLE Magazine that while the chin straps might offer a temporary improvement, there is no scientific evidence to support that it works long term. They also added that compressive dressings like this are typically only useful after surgery.
While some customers are excited to try, others were apprehensive.
“Is it April Fools?” wrote one follower on the Skims Instagram post.
“What in the Hannibal is this?” wrote another referencing Hannibal Lecter from “The Silence of the Lambs.”

“I need a Mayor of Whoville campaign come Christmas,” wrote another.

Halle Berry channels Bond girl vibes in new bikini photo
The Oscar-winning actress has once again demonstrated why she remains one of Hollywood’s most captivating stars, sharing a stunning lakeside photograph that immediately transported fans back to her legendary Bond girl days. At 58, Halle Berry continues to defy conventional expectations about aging in the entertainment industry.

Her latest Instagram post from Lake Powell featured the actress posing gracefully in a simple white two-piece swimsuit, appearing as if she had just emerged from the crystalline waters. The serene backdrop of towering red rock canyons provided a dramatic setting for what quickly became a viral sensation across social media platforms.
The image sparked immediate comparisons to Berry’s unforgettable portrayal of Jinx in 2002’s Die Another Day, where she memorably emerged from ocean waters in a striking orange bikini alongside Pierce Brosnan’s James Bond. That scene has remained one of cinema’s most iconic beach moments for more than two decades.

Social media erupts with nostalgic praise
Fans flooded the comment sections with admiration, noting how Berry has maintained the same confident presence and stunning physique that made her an instant cultural icon. The actress captioned her tranquil photo collection with enthusiasm about discovering her slice of paradise, also sharing peaceful boat ride images and a playful video of her voice echoing through canyon walls.

This Lake Powell moment follows another memorable bikini incident from Berry’s recent vacation history. While visiting Switzerland approximately one month earlier, the actress experienced a wardrobe malfunction during an impromptu dance session to boyfriend Van Hunt’s music, resulting in her bikini bottoms unexpectedly slipping during her energetic performance.

Rather than feeling embarrassed, Berry embraced the mishap with characteristic humor and grace, later sharing the amusing footage with her social media followers. The incident showcased her playful personality and comfort with spontaneous moments, even when they don’t go according to plan.
Bikini legacy connects past and present
Berry’s relationship with swimwear moments in popular culture extends far beyond casual vacation photography. During previous interviews, she has discussed the meticulous process behind creating her legendary Bond girl look, revealing that numerous bikini options and accessories were tested before achieving the perfect ensemble.

The actress has acknowledged the intentional effort behind crafting what would become an enduring cinematic moment. The production team understood they were potentially creating something that would resonate with audiences for years to come, and their instincts proved remarkably accurate.

However, Berry has also expressed disappointment about missed opportunities stemming from that iconic role. Despite interest from producers in developing a spin-off project centered around her Jinx character, studio executives ultimately declined to move forward with the concept, citing budget concerns and uncertainty about market appeal.
Beyond her professional achievements and social media presence, Berry maintains focus on her role as mother to two children from previous relationships. She shares 17-year-old daughter Nahla with former partner Gabriel Aubry and 11-year-old son Maceo with ex-husband Olivier Martinez, whom she divorced in 2016 after three years of marriage.

Her romantic history includes marriages to former baseball player David Justice and musician Eric BenΓ©t, both of which ended in divorce. Currently, Berry appears to have found happiness with musician Van Hunt, with whom she frequently shares glimpses of their relationship through social media.
The actress continues proving that confidence and beauty transcend age limitations, inspiring countless fans who follow her journey both professionally and personally. Her latest lakeside photographs serve as another reminder that authentic self-assurance remains her most attractive quality, whether she’s portraying complex characters on screen or simply enjoying peaceful moments in nature.

Cory Booker erupts at Democrats over Trump policies

A dramatic confrontation erupted on the Senate floor Tuesday as New Jersey Senator Cory Booker launched an unprecedented public criticism of his own party’s approach to opposing President Trump. The heated exchange exposed deep fractures within Democratic ranks over strategy and resistance tactics during the second Trump administration.

Booker blocked passage of five bipartisan bills designed to fund police programs, arguing that the Trump administration has been systematically withholding law enforcement resources from Democratic-leaning states. His objections transformed what should have been routine unanimous consent procedures into a rare display of intra-party conflict that sent shockwaves through the chamber.
The senator’s explosive remarks reverberated throughout the chamber as he accused fellow Democrats of enabling Trump administration policies through their willingness to cooperate on legislation. His critique extended beyond immediate legislative concerns to encompass broader institutional capitulation to presidential pressure, including what he described as organizations that should serve as bastions of resistance.

Colleagues push back against procedural disruption
The confrontation began when Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto attempted to advance seven bipartisan measures through unanimous consent during Police Week observances. Booker’s sudden objections caught Democratic colleagues off guard, particularly since the legislation had previously passed unanimously through committee proceedings without his opposition.
Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar joined Cortez Masto in challenging Booker’s timing and methods, suggesting he should have raised concerns during earlier committee deliberations rather than disrupting floor proceedings. The exchange quickly escalated beyond procedural disagreements into fundamental questions about Democratic strategy and unity.

Booker defended his position by questioning why Democrats would advance legislation that potentially benefits Trump administration political objectives while the president allegedly weaponizes public safety grants against states that oppose his policies. He specifically cited concerns about how the funding mechanisms could disadvantage New Jersey and similar Democratic jurisdictions.

Party tensions reflect broader strategic debates
The public dispute illuminated underlying tensions within the Democratic caucus as members grapple with how aggressively to oppose Trump administration initiatives. Some Democrats favor selective cooperation on bipartisan issues, while others advocate for more comprehensive resistance across all legislative areas.
Booker’s outburst reflected frustration with what he perceives as insufficient Democratic pushback against Republican priorities and nominations. The incident occurred during a particularly challenging period for Senate Democrats, who face pressure from their political base to demonstrate stronger opposition while simultaneously managing practical governance responsibilities.

The New Jersey senator’s concerns about federal grant distribution highlight broader Democratic accusations that the Trump administration has politicized traditionally nonpartisan programs. These allegations suggest a pattern of selective enforcement that potentially punishes states and localities based on their political alignment rather than objective criteria or need.

Legislative outcome and future implications
Despite the heated exchange, Booker ultimately withdrew his objections, allowing the police funding legislation to proceed to passage. However, his intervention succeeded in drawing attention to his concerns about Democratic strategy and the administration’s grant distribution practices.
The confrontation raises questions about future Democratic unity as Congress approaches critical decisions on spending bills and government funding deadlines. Party leaders must balance activist demands for stronger resistance against practical considerations about legislative effectiveness and public perception.

Recent polling suggests that Democratic voters remain divided on the appropriate level of opposition to Trump administration policies. While progressive activists consistently demand more confrontational approaches, moderate Democrats in competitive districts worry about appearing obstructionist to independent voters who value bipartisan cooperation.
Other Democratic senators acknowledged the challenge of managing competing expectations from constituents who simultaneously demand both effective governance and principled opposition. Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal noted hearing both calls for cooperation and appreciation for fighting from his constituents, reflecting the complex political calculations facing minority party members.

The episode underscores broader questions about minority party strategy in an era of intense political polarization, where traditional norms of bipartisan cooperation compete with base expectations for sustained resistance to opposing party priorities. Future confrontations may depend on how successfully Democratic leadership can channel activist energy while maintaining legislative credibility.

Oprah Winfrey rejects claims she closed Hawaii road amid tsunami warning
Oprah Winfrey refuted widespread online claims on July 30 that she blocked off a private road on a Hawaii property she owns, preventing tsunami evacuees from quickly reaching higher ground.
Winfrey, 71, has a residence on the Hawaiian island of Maui, where tsunami warnings were issued after a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck Russia.

Ms Nicole Nichols, a spokesperson for the American billionaire talk show host, said Winfrey’s team contacted local law enforcement and the United States’ Federal Emergency Management Agency to ensure the road was opened “as soon as we heard the tsunami warnings.”
“Any reports otherwise are false,” she said in a statement.
Across social media, angry users accused Winfrey of refusing to make her road available at any point to evacuees, despite heavy traffic on the island. Some posts amassed millions of views.
But Maui officials repeatedly listed the route as an option in emergency alerts. “Oprah’s road is open to get upcountry,” the county wrote, citing the Maui police department.

Ms Nichols said local law enforcement had been helping residents through the road 50 cars at a time and that the passageway would remain open “as long as necessary.”

Busta Rhymes to be honored with star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Busta Rhymes will receive the 2,818th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on August 1 in the Recording category.
Chris Rock, LL Cool J, and Chuck D will speak at the ceremony, with Big Boy hosting the event.
The event adds to a year of recognition for Busta, including a BET Lifetime Achievement Award and new music releases.
Busta Rhymes is about to make history once again, this time on the streets of Hollywood.

According to the official press release, the Hip Hop icon will receive the 2,818th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday (Aug 1). Busta’s star will be awarded in the Recording category.

Radio host and Walk of Famer Big Boy will emcee the event, with guest speakers Chris Rock, LL Cool J and Chuck D lined up to show their support. Fans can also tune in live at walkoffame.com.
“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will be adding Busta Rhymes, one of Hip Hop’s most enduring and electrifying voices, as a new member of Hollywood’s iconic sidewalk,” said Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “His talent and influence are undeniable. His star on the Walk of Fame will stand as a testament to his lasting impact on Hip Hop music and [its importance to] American culture.”

This honor comes at a moment when Busta is still going full throttle. After decades in the game, he’s continued to evolve and perform at the highest level, from touring the globe to dropping new music that still pushes boundaries.

From group member to solo star
Born in Brooklyn and raised in Long Island, Busta first made his mark with Leaders of the New School before stepping out on his own. His solo debut, The Coming, set the tone, but it was When Disaster Strikes… that really signaled his breakout. With a voice like no other and visuals that helped define Hip Hop’s golden era, songs like “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See,” “Break Ya Neck” and “Touch It” became anthems.

He also made his mark on screen with roles in Higher Learning, Finding Forrester, Shaft, and more, plus voice acting in The Rugrats Movie. He’s still active in Hollywood, appearing in the upcoming The Naked Gun reboot alongside Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson, which hits theaters the same day he receives his star.

In the last few years, the flowers have kept coming. He picked up the BET Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023 and the Global Icon Award at the 2024 MTV EMAs. His Blockbusta album dropped in 2023, followed by two EPs in his Dragon Season series — The Awakening and Equinox — and now, fans are waiting on Vengeance.
This Walk of Fame moment is another milestone in a long list of accomplishments for Busta Rhymes.

Mariah Carey on co-parenting with Nick Cannon and aging on her own terms

Carey discusses co-parenting her 14-year-old twins with Nick Cannon and emphasizes fairness in their upbringing.
She explains her approach to aging, saying she doesn’t acknowledge time or numbers.
The singer previews her upcoming album, Here For It All, with features from Anderson .Paak, Kehlani, and Shenseea.

Mariah Carey is Harper’s Bazaar UK’s September 2025 cover star.
While the corresponding story touches on her decades-long career and signature “diva” persona, the global superstar opens up most about her children, whom she describes as the “major loves of her life,” and how she and ex-husband Nick Cannon approach co-parenting. The two were married for six years before splitting in 2014. Despite the end of their marriage, they continue raising their 14-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe, together.

“How do I say this? They spend time with him, and they have a good time; they spend time with me, and they have a good time,” Carey tells the publication. “I want to make sure I’m always fair about the situation because it’s tough to grow up with divorced parents.”
When asked about her love life now, Carey — rumored to be dating Anderson .Paak — kept it simple, saying only, “I’m a romantic.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the 56-year-old speaks about navigating aging in the spotlight. She says that she doesn’t stress over numbers — in fact, she denies them altogether. “I don’t allow it — it just doesn’t happen,” she tells Harper’s. “I don’t know time. I don’t know numbers. I do not acknowledge time — I have a new song that starts with that line…”
That line, she says, will be featured on her upcoming album, Here For It All, dropping this fall.
A new era begins with Here For It All

Carey’s Harper’s interview comes just ahead of the release of her 16th studio album, Here For It All, arriving Sept. 26. The singer announced the project on social media with a brief video showing her walking in heels and teasing the title track.
She kicked off the album rollout in June with “Type Dangerous,” co-written and produced with Anderson .Paak. The second single, “Sugar Sweet,” features Kehlani and Shenseea.

Tyra Banks Admits She Eats Leftover Crumbs From the Floor at Home
If you drop crumbs in your house, Tyra Banks may suggest that you eat them instead of sweeping them up.
While guest co-hosting Today with Jenna & Friends, Tyra Banks shared a so-called “cleaning technique” that left the studio in stunned laughter.
The supermodel and entrepreneur revealed that she loves snacking in bed with her mom, Carolyn London, saying, “Hanging in bed. We do ice cream in bed. We do popcorn.”

But when co-host Jenna Bush Hager admitted she avoids eating in bed to prevent crumbs, Banks chimed in with a response that floored her.
“Yes, but the great thing is then a couple days later…” Banks teased. A shocked Hager cut in with, “No you do not… you go down there and…”
Banks, founder of SMiZE & DREAM ice cream, proudly confirmed that she eats the crumbs off her floor.
“I do! And you know, Jenna, I clean crumbs by eating them,” she revealed.
“Because if you put it in the trash, it’s gonna get roaches or something. So you just clean it up with your finger. Or you just eat it.”

Hager, still stunned, asked Banks what she does with the crumbs on her floor.
“If it’s on your ground! That’s your feet. I have a no shoe rule in my home so I can eat off my floor,” she continued.
“No, but I’m serious, I do that. But then I see my son doing it and I’m like, ‘Don’t do that!’ And he’s like, ‘But you do it.’ A few days if it’s not super perishable. Like a popcorn? I mean, come on,” Banks replied. “That’s like astronaut food. It just lasts forever. You just pick it up. I’m not joking.”

Brooke Hogan Requested to Be Cut from Hulk Hogan’s Will—And Skipped His WWE Tribute After His Death

Brooke Hogan made her decision loud and clear—long before her father, wrestling icon Hulk Hogan, passed away this month. The daughter of the WWE legend took the rare step in 2023 of asking to be removed from his will entirely, citing deep personal reasons and a desire to avoid what she called the “financial mess” tied to his estate.

Now, following Hulk Hogan’s death from cardiac arrest at 71, Brooke’s absence from his public WWE tribute has reignited public conversation around their strained relationship.
Sources close to the family confirmed that Brooke’s removal from the will was her decision—not his. She reportedly didn’t trust people in his inner circle and chose peace of mind over money. Though she declined any major inheritance, she is set to receive a small portion from a life insurance trust for the benefit of her children.

Following the 10-bell salute in his honor at WWE’s Monday Night RAW, Brooke released a heartfelt—but carefully worded—statement. She explained that while her bond with her father was “deeply spiritual,” the physical and emotional distance had been growing for years. She did not provide details but mentioned that she named one of her newborn twins after him—showing a private tribute that contrasted with the public one she skipped.

The rift between Brooke and her father became painfully public in 2015, when leaked recordings revealed Hulk Hogan using racial slurs and expressing disgust about Brooke dating a Black man. “I mean, I’d rather if she was going to f*** some n*****… I’d rather have her marry an 8-foot-tall n***** worth a hundred million dollars!” he said in the recording. The backlash was swift: WWE terminated its relationship with him, and Hogan later issued a public apology, though the damage to his relationship with Brooke was evident.

Despite efforts to mend the bond over the years, Brooke kept her distance. Her decision to remove herself from his will was seen by many as a symbolic final break. And when the world came together to mourn Hulk Hogan, Brooke’s absence underscored that for her, closure didn’t require a spotlight.

In her words, their connection was “beyond this world,” but clearly not fit for the public stage.
