Anthony Mackie orders a Crown and Coke, which comes out in a plastic cup with a little black straw poking out of it. A Blue Moon for me. We head outside to the patio, where there are a half dozen or so empty garden tables and a fence facing the street. Mackie takes a seat and lights a cigar. “The Connecticut,” he says, introducing his stogie varietal. He leans back and encases himself in an enormous cloud of smoke.

When Mackie was in high school, he and his buddies would hang around this block, sneaking fifty-cent beers. They’d drink and talk shit. He still comes here, thirty years later, because Tito, the bartender, doesn’t give two fucks about what movies he’s in. Not even the biggest release of his career: Captain America: Brave New World, out February 14, which sees Mackie become the leading man—Captain America—of the behemoth Marvel Cinematic Universe. Tito just wants to know how he’s doing and if he wants a Budweiser.
We have roughly the time it takes for the Connecticut to disappear to put a bow on, or maybe even make peace with, what we’ve wrestled with over our past four hours together, spread across conversations in New York City and New Orleans.
Mackie’s brother has a saying: To whom much is given, much is expected. It almost feels like his very own With great power comes great responsibility, but unlike Peter Parker, Mackie has a counterpoint.
To whom much is worked for, much is what?
He did the math. Malcolm Gladwell has said that when you put ten thousand hours into your craft, you’re a master of it. Anthony Mackie put 11,357 hours into acting by the time he graduated from Juilliard. He gave up his junior and senior years of high school in his hometown to study theater at boarding school, moved thousands of miles away to live in a shitty apartment in New York City—far from family, friends, everything—where he worked his ass off to learn everything he possibly could.

Twenty-four years passed.
A week ago, Mackie posed his counterpoint directly to me: “To whom much is worked for, much is what? Because to whom much is given, much is expected.” The first time he says it, it rings somewhere between rhetorical question and haiku—maybe even bullshit. But Mackie is dead serious in his delivery. He’s asking, What happens when you do every single thing you’re supposed to do, become one of the best at what you do, and the reward isn’t there?
He’s Captain America now. A quarter century after he completed his ten thousand hours. Fifteen years after his first shoulda-got-the-statue performance. Ten-plus years after Marvel cast him as the sidekick.
What took so long?
The first time we meet is under an excessively large Christmas tree. We’re at the Drawing Room in the Greenwich Hotel in lower Manhattan, and the vibe is maximum New York City During the Holidays: fireplace, fake presents, tourists fluttering in and out with hot drinks, shedding layers just to put them back on. If a different John Williams theme—the Home Alone overture—isn’t playing somewhere, it should be.
Anthony Mackie, known golfer, walks in wearing a very golf outfit: white polo shirt tucked into slacks. He shakes my hand and sits next to me—left to right, it’s the excessively large Christmas tree, me, Mackie—and the waiter comes over. “Can I have a tea with honey and a shot of Woodford?” Mackie asks. “Honey. Lemon. Woodford.”
Is this comfortable for you? I ask.
“This is great.”
Thank you for making the time.
“No, thank you.”
Appreciate it.
“It’s always interesting coming to New York.”

We’re both a little bit tight.
In the sea of preternaturally charismatic Marvel actors, the New Orleans native is one of the best red-carpet and late-show talkers: Big stories. Guttural laughs. Turbo hand gestures. But in-person, one-on-one sit-downs are not part of his comfort zone: “Every time I have to do an interview, I’m like, Ohhhhhhhh, take the Benadryl, take a Xanax, and go at it hard,” he says. The laugh that follows suggests he’s only half kidding. (Another moment like this: Later on, he tests my intentions with this joke: “Coming into it, were you like, ‘I’m gonna find out if he beat up kids when he was younger!’ ”) There’s zero pretense with Anthony Mackie—no bullshit, no people-pleasing. Always respectful. Says what he means. But yeah, he’d avoid conversations with probing strangers if he could.
That’ll get harder to do with the release of Brave New World. In the past decade of Marvel shows and films, Mackie’s Sam Wilson character struggled with—but ultimately embraced—the mantle of Captain America, inheriting the shield from Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers. If the superhero stratosphere has anything resembling a sole leading actor, it’s the one who plays Captain America. That’s Mackie now. Brave New World will kick off a critical new chapter of the MCU, which will culminate with two new Avengers films. Meaning: His life, sure as the stars and stripes on his new suit, is about to change.
For Mackie, the achievement—top billing in a major studio blockbuster—feels like validation. The credit due for a quarter-century-long career in which he’s been unerringly excellent but never quite broken through to full stardom. By the time he turned thirty, he’d blazed through several films you know by heart: 8 Mile, The Manchurian Candidate, Half Nelson, and Million Dollar Baby. He’s worked with legends like Eastwood, Washington, Ford, Demme, and Lee. Played Martin Luther King Jr. and Tupac. He’s stunned in indies (Half Nelson, The Hurt Locker), studio comedies (The Night Before), sci-fi epics (Altered Carbon), historical dramas (Detroit, The Banker). His superpower is not that he’s very good at what he does but that he’s very good in anything he does, no matter the size of the role. He’s so consistent that audiences and awards bodies have taken him for granted.

“This ain’t no overnight shit,” Mackie says. With industry events like the annual Golden Globes ceremony, where he is due to present an award in a few weeks, looming, he adds, “It’s always apropos for me when awards season comes up. Because I know I’ve done at least four performances that could have been nominated—if not for a Golden Globe, then an Oscar or an Emmy.”
We roll-call all four. There’s the 2004 Sundance hit Brother to Brother, in which Mackie plays a young gay man who develops a friendship with an important figure in the Harlem Renaissance. Next is 2006’s Half Nelson, in which he plays Frank alongside Ryan Gosling’s flailing history teacher, which earned Gosling his first Academy Award nomination. Mackie also cites The Banker, the true story of Bernard Garrett, a Black entrepreneur who broke the color line in real estate. (The film debuted exactly two weeks before the pandemic amid a controversy involving Garrett’s son.) The most notable snub is 2009’s The Hurt Locker, the defining film about the Iraq war. He is exceptional as Sergeant J. T. Sanborn. But while the movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2010, only Mackie’s costar, Jeremy Renner, was nominated for his performance.
“Captain America is my Oscar,” he says. “Because I’ve been overlooked so many times in my career.”

#RHOA: The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 16 Trailer Introduces 'a Whole New ATL' with a Rebooted Cast Led by Returning Faves
The wait is nearly over for Bravo fans clamoring for the return of The Real Housewives of Atlanta!
Nearly a year and a half after the series wrapped for season 15, it's slated to return for 16 season on March 9 — this time with a rebooted cast featuring the return of longtime cast members Porsha Williams and Phaedra Parks as Housewives and Cynthia Bailey as a Friend.
They'll be joined by returning Housewife Drew Sidora, as well as four new Housewives including author, businesswoman and podcast host Brittany Eady, restaurateur and Food Network alum Kelli Ferrell as well as Angela Oakley, the wife of NBA great Charles Oakley.
Shamea Morton Mwangi, who has appeared on the show in a guest and friend role dating back to season 5, has been upgraded to a full-time Housewife.
All can be seen in action in the season 16 trailer, which Bravo dropped on Thursday, Jan. 30.
WATCH:
In the clip, the women promise "a whole new ATL" though insists, "the shade is still shady and the tea is still piping hot — if not hotter."
Most of the shade is cut from the trailer in favor of fun, though, with the girls celebrating together, sharing laughs and traveling on a glamorous vacation to Granada. But an official synopsis promises, "with a whirlwind of divorces, rumors, strained relationships and redefined alliances, will the ladies be able to keep things peachy in the A?"
There is a peek at one scandal that's made it's way into the press involving Kenya Moore.
When production began on season 16 in May 2024, Moore — a longstanding staple on RHOA — was returning as a Housewife. But in June, all of that changed when news broke the former Miss UA would be exiting the series after allegedly unveiling explicit pictures of Eady while the Bravo cameras were rolling at a cast event.
At the time, Moore was retaliating after Eady allegedly threatened her costar using the word “gun." However, a second source close to production disputed that, saying, “At no time was Kenya ever threatened with a weapon, nor was there ever a weapon present during the course of production."
Later in the trailer, we see the cast reacting to the moment, with Bailey noting the moment "couldn't go any lower" as Eady cries and asks, "She thinks that's okay?"
"That was Kenya's choice to twirl on down to hell," Williams says.
Following the incident, an investigation was said to be launched by Bravo. The results, sources told PEOPLE, are what led to Moore's exit.
“You are the best fans anyone could ever ask for, and I love you all so very much,” Moore wrote on Instagram on June 25, the same day cast members were told about her firing. “Always and forever.”
She's since apologized for the incident, saying in a November appearance on Tamron Hall that she is "sorry" for what she'd done, and noting that, "I didn't have to take it that far" while filming. "Hindsight is always fifty, fifty," she said. "I've taken full accountability for the things that I've done."
That drama aside, other conflicts in the trailer appear to be between longtime friends Morton Mwangi and Williams. There's also tension brewing between Williams and Sidora.
Here's what Bravo is teasing to come for each of our peach holders.
Porsha is expanding her business empire and living the life of her dreams until she learns that everything isn’t as it seems. She’s left with the tough decision to file for a second divorce after discovering revelations about the man she thought would be her forever. Amid the chaos, Porsha stays strong and resilient with her daughter Pilar by her side, who is her beacon of joy along with her supportive family and friends. However, when rumors start to swirl about her friend Drew’s newfound yet questionable partnership with her ex, Dennis McKinley, things take a turn. Will Porsha take the high road to find peace through the turmoil?
Drew is busier than ever with her music and film career taking off. While in full time mommy-mode, she has her sights set on reaching her goals, including having an amicable divorce to end a dramatic roller coaster of a marriage with Ralph, who takes his court-ordered residence in the family basement (or as Ralph calls it his lower-level penthouse), until the divorce is finalized. Drew is looking forward to reclaiming her life, rebuilding friendships and focusing on using her music as an outlet to cope with all the emotional turbulence. But with finding a new music partner in Dennis, who is also Porsha’s ex-fiancé, things get complicated when there are two sides to a story. Will this unique collaboration end in one accord?
The world is Shamea’s oyster, and she’s ready to live it up. While not wanting to be defined by her wealth, family is Shamea’s No. 1 priority. Her daughters, Shya and miracle baby Shiloh, are her pride and joy as she wants to continue to grow their family with her husband of 10 years, Gerald Mwangi. However, with a fear of another traumatic pregnancy, this may derail the couple’s longing dream of having another child. Shamea is the heart of the Atlanta social elite and a quadruple threat as an actor, singer dancer and host. In this friend group she has bonds that extend decades, especially with Porsha, a best friend from childhood, but will their long-term friendship stand the test of time coupled with some rough waves of miscommunication.
Brit is an innovator that carved out her own niche in the insurance industry transforming into mogul status. Brit built her million-dollar agency alongside her sisters and met her husband, Michael Cunningham, through her firm. While she’s serious about her business, Brit is basking in the glow of her 10-carat diamond ring and marriage to Michael. However, with the loss of a family member and career transition, her marriage with Mike seems to have driven a wedge between her and her once inseparable sisters who feel that their quality time is now non-existent. Despite life’s challenges, Brit’s fun and feisty personality is ready to create some good times with the ladies, especially Kelli, who has grown to be her bestie. However, when she experiences some friendship friction and a catastrophic event that shatters everything, Brit’s left to pick up the pieces.
Kelli is big energy with a mix of culinary couture as chef extraordinaire and owner of well-known ATL staple Nana’s Chicken & Waffles. There’s never a dull moment for Kelli as a single mom of four daughters: Chasti, Chelsi, Chloe and Chance, who are her everything. Her recent divorce has been challenging after 11 years of marriage and threatened Nana’s very existence. This Queen of Waffles is now ready to flourish, build her empire and get to know these ladies better. She’s not holding back on any of her opinions or side-eyes.
Angela is a boss in every sense of the word and her husband, basketball legend Charles Oakley, is by her side. Angela and Charles have four kids combined in their blended family, and with their eighth-year wedding anniversary approaching, they’re ready to renew their vows. However, after a few couples' therapy sessions, will underlying issues be revealed as she also navigates fractured relationships with her family? Angela is also finding her footing in this group of opinionated women, and while giving everyone the benefit of the doubt, she’s also working through some unexpected feuds that don’t all end in peace and harmony.
Phaedra makes her epic return later this season and it will be worth the wait as she turns up the fun and shade. With so many friendships that she’s excited to reignite with, including the long-awaited reunion of Frick and Frack, there are some new bonds that are fractured from the start. Will Phaedra be able to restore order in the group without a side of messiness and drama?
The legendary Cynthia is back in the ATL as a friend and is always ready to lighten the mood when tensions arise. But as the voice of reason that this group needs, will she land in the middle of the drama?
RHOA premiered on Bravo in October 2008 as the third installment in the now-robust Real Housewives universe. NeNe Leakes, DeShawn Snow, Shereé Whitfield, Lisa Wu and Kim Zolciak-Biermann all starred.
Whitfield was part of the season 15 cast. She exited RHOA amid the reboot alongside Marlo Hampton and Sanya Richards-Ross. All three joined as full-time Housewives together back in season 14, though Hampton has been a recurring Friend/guest for years while Whitfield had appeared as Housewife on multiple seasons throughout its run.

#MusicNews: Former Dru Hill Member Tao Soprano Joins R&B Group Intro

Tao Soprano, formerly of Dru Hill, is embarking on a new musical chapter. The Annapolis, Maryland, native has joined the R&B group Intro as its new lead singer.
The trio also consists of founding members Clinton “Buddy” Wike and Jeff Sanders.
“Being chosen to be the lead singer of Intro is definitely an honor,” Tao Soprano exclusively tells Rated R&B.
“Their ’90s R&B sound is legendary, and to now be a part of that legacy, man, it’s surreal. I’m ready to bring my own flavor to this iconic vibe and take it to places we haven’t even imagined yet!”
The group has been actively posting on social media, gearing fans up for their new era, including upcoming performances and “eventually” new music.
Soprano’s addition to Intro comes six years after first exiting Dru Hill in 2019. He joined the latter group in 2008 after founding member James “Woody” Green’s departure.
During Soprano’s time in Dru Hill, he contributed to their fourth album, InDRUpendence Day (2010), and holiday EP, Christmas in Baltimore (2017), as well as toured.
In a 2019 interview with YKIGS, Soprano revealed why he left Dru Hill. “Pretty much they wanted to move in a different direction. They had put Playa in the group,” he said. “From that point, I continued to be on the road with them for about a year and a half.”
Tao Soprano briefly returned to Dru Hill in 2022 and continued touring with them until 2024.
Intro was previously fronted by Kenny “G-Love” Greene, who was lead vocalist and principal songwriter, until he passed away in 2001 due to complications from AIDS. He was 32.
The group’s formation traces back to the early ’90s when Wike and Greene met while in the army at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Wike later met Sanders through a mutual friend and eventually introduced him to Greene.
Fast forward to circa 1991, they met rap star Heavy D at a club in New York, where they sang for him. Shortly after, Heavy D called them to meet with DJ Eddie F, who offered them a recording contract with Untouchables Entertainment.
In 1993, Intro released their self-titled debut album via Untouchables/Atlantic Records. The RIAA gold-selling album featured classics like their cover of Stevie Wonder‘s “Ribbon in the Sky,” “Let Me Be the One” and “Come Inside.”
Wike revealed that “Let Me Be the One,” written by Greene and Dave Hall, was originally intended for Mary J. Blige‘s debut album, What’s The 411?. However, there weren’t enough open slots on the album. (Greene and Hall did land placements with “Reminisce,” “Love No Limit” and “My Love,” though.)
In 1995, they released their second album, New Life, which included songs like “Feels Like the First Time” and “Funny How Time Flies.” The album wasn’t able to replicate their first album’s success. Not long after, they went on a hiatus.
After Greene’s death, Intro later re-emerged with new member Ramon Adams before adding Eric Pruitt. (Both have since departed from the group.)
While Intro hasn’t released an album in 30 years, they did drop a few standalone singles in the 2010s, with their most recent release being 2021’s “Higher.”
In 2022, soul singer and songwriter Eric Roberson released “All I Want” featuring previously recorded vocals from Greene and Intro.
“I am a huge fan of the group, Intro,” Roberson said. “The lead singer, Kenny Greene, was one of the best writers and singers I had ever heard. With him passing in 2001, he left a void in R&B. I am extremely happy to have a performance from him showcased on this record.”

John Leguizamo Calls Donald Trump’s Mass Deportations “Dehumanizing”

John Leguizamo has slammed President Donald Trump‘s recent mass deportations since taking office for his second presidential term. Leguizamo, known for using his platform to advocate for Latin rights, has been vocal about his opposition to Trump’s immigration policies.
In a recent Instagram video, the actor expressed deep frustration over the administration’s handling of deportations, emphasizing the impact on hardworking families and individuals who have contributed to America. The 64-year-old condemned Trump targeting Latin communities and called for others to speak up.
Leguizamo sharply criticized Trump’s deportation policy as an “attack on Latin immigrants,” adding that the order “dehumanizes the community.” He began with, “My immigrant brothers and sisters I know you’re not felons, I know you’re not criminals, I know you’re not drug dealers—you’re the hardest working people in America.” He added that he felt “very offended” by Trump’s initiative.
The Emmy-winning actor has consistently used his influence to challenge narratives that portray immigrants in a negative light. His concerns stem from Trump’s long-standing ideologies on immigration, which includes increasing deportations, expanding detention centers, and reinstating measures that can separate families.
Beyond his public statements, Leguizamo recently took his activism a step further by engaging directly with Latino Trump supporters.
In a segment on The Daily Show, he went undercover to understand why some Latino voters back Trump, despite his anti-immigrant rhetoric. His findings revealed that some had concerns regarding economics, some were simply misinformed, and others spoke of the division within the Latino community.
Leguizamo has called on Americans to reject policies from Trump that directly affect Latin communities. Take a look at his sentiments and also his undercover mission above.

Luka Doncic Traded To Lakers For Anthony Davis: NBA’s Blockbuster Shake-Up
A shocking blockbuster deal shakes up the NBA as superstar players change teams, raising questions about the future.
The Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks rocked the NBA world on February 2, 2025, announcing a blockbuster trade involving superstars Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis. This major shake-up has sent ripples through the league, leaving fans and analysts buzzing about what this means for both franchises.
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the three-team trade came as quite the surprise, with Doncic making his way to Los Angeles as Davis heads to Dallas. The immediate reactions from several players and league insiders have highlighted the shocking nature of the transaction.
Sun’s star Devin Booker reacted candidly to the news. "This is crazy. I really don’t know what to say. Everyone was saying Doncic was untouchable and untradeable. NBA shows you again, this is business. They will always think about your trades and don’t think you’re safe," he commented, encapsulating the disbelief many feel about the trade. The sentiment expresses not just the surprise at the swap but also the harsh reality of how quickly things can change for players.
For the Lakers, this trade is seen as pivotal. Charania's report has already begun reshaping views on the team’s championship aspirations moving forward. LeBron James, who according to Lakers reporter Dave McMenamin, learned of the trade during dinner with family right after the game, stands to benefit significantly from having Doncic alongside him. This dynamic pairing of the two elite talents raises questions about how they will mesh on the court.
On the flip side, the Mavericks are eager to add Davis to their roster, with hopes of eleviating their playoff potential. This move signals the franchise's commitment to making bold decisions to contend for the championship. Having Davis, known for his defensive prowess and versatility, may very well bolster the Mavericks' chances, especially if they can pair him effectively with their existing talent.
The trade also underlines the business aspect of the NBA, showcasing how player movement is often beyond individual control. Teams are always weighing options for improvement, and no player’s status is ever truly guaranteed. This constant state of flux keeps franchises on their toes and creates opportunities for significant reconfigurations, as seen with this recent trade.
Fans are now left speculating about how this trade will play out during the remainder of the season. Will Doncic and LeBron form the most formidable duo the Lakers have seen? Can Davis propel the Mavericks back to contention status? Such imminent questions will captivate followers of the game as they watch how the new lineups develop.
This deal certainly reshapes the narrative for both clubs as they adjust their playoff strategies heading toward the postseason. How they respond, adapt, and improve will be watched with bated breath as they navigate through their new rosters.

Shemar Moore seeks privacy amid breakup with Jesiree Dizon
Renowned actor and 90’s heartthrob Shemar Moore has recently found himself in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Following the announcement of his breakup with longtime girlfriend Jesiree Dizon, the star of the hit series “S.W.A.T.” has taken to social media to urge fans to respect his privacy and refrain from negative comments.
Moore and Dizon, who share a 2-year-old daughter named Frankie, dated for five years. Dizon is also a mother to two other children from previous relationships. The news of their split emerged on Jan. 30, prompting Moore to address the situation directly with his followers.
In a candid video shared on Instagram, Moore expressed his frustration with the public’s fascination with his personal life. He stated, “My life, my private life with Jesiree Dizon, that’s my life, that’s not your business.” He acknowledged the nature of fame and how it invites scrutiny, saying, “Fame is a motherf–ker because if I wasn’t halfway famous, then nobody would care.” Moore implored fans to “mind your business” and give him and Dizon the privacy they deserve.
Despite his plea for kindness, social media users have been quick to comment on the breakup. Some have speculated about the reasons for their split, while others have criticized Moore’s handling of the situation. One user remarked, “Say she left you without saying she left you … he’s going through it.” This highlights the challenges celebrities face when navigating personal relationships in the public eye.
Moore emphasized that he and Dizon remain friends and have a deep love for each other, despite the breakup. He stated, “If you really have love for me and you a fan of me, then be kind, be kind. Breaking up ain’t easy.” His message serves as a reminder that public figures are entitled to their privacy and should be treated with respect, especially during difficult times.
In his video, Moore also took a moment to praise Dizon as a phenomenal mother, second only to his own late mother, Marilyn Joan Wilson-Moore, who passed away in 2020. He shared, “Jesiree Dizon is No. 2. She is a phenomenal mother.” This acknowledgment of Dizon’s parenting skills reflects Moore’s commitment to co-parenting and maintaining a positive relationship for the sake of their daughter.
While Moore has expressed his dedication to being a great father, he has also been candid about his views on marriage. In a previous interview, he mentioned that he does not see marriage in his future, citing a lack of positive role models in his life. This perspective adds another layer to the public’s curiosity about his relationship with Dizon and the reasons behind their breakup.
Zoe Saldaña reacts to Karla Sofia Gascon’s tweets

Zoe Saldaña feels “sad” about Karla Sofia Gascon’s controversial historic tweets. The situation has sparked widespread discussion in the entertainment industry about accountability and social media history.
The 46-year-old actress starred alongside Karla, 52, in the award-winning musical film Emilia Perez, but Zoe has distanced herself from her co-star’s controversial social media posts, which recently resurfaced online. The film has received critical acclaim and is set for international release in coming months.
“It makes me really sad because I don’t support [it], and I don’t have any tolerance for any negative rhetoric towards people of any group,” Saldaña explained during a Q&A in London. The event was part of the film’s promotional tour across Europe.
“I can only attest to the experience that I had with each and every individual that was a part, that is a part, of this film, and my experience and my interactions with them was about inclusivity and collaboration and racial, cultural, and gender equity. And it just saddens me.” The film’s production team has emphasized its commitment to diversity throughout the project’s development.
Saldaña insisted that she wants to spread a message of “love” and “support”. Her stance aligns with her long-standing advocacy for inclusivity in Hollywood, where she has been a vocal supporter of diverse representation.
“It saddens me that we are having to face this setback right now,” the Hollywood star reflected. “But I’m happy that you’re all here and that you’re all still showing up for ‘Emilia’ because the message that this film has is so powerful and the change that it can bring forward to communities that are marginalized day in and day out is important. And all that I can attest is that all of us that came together to tell this story, we came together for love and for respect and curiosity, and we will continue to spread that message. That’s all we can say right now.” The film has already garnered significant awards season buzz.
Karla has already apologized for having “caused hurt” with her old social media posts. The controversy emerged just weeks after her historic Oscar nomination was announced.
The Emilia Perez star, who recently became the first trans person to be nominated for an Oscar, came under fire after old tweets about the Muslim community, the late George Floyd, and diversity at the Academy Awards resurfaced. The tweets, dating back several years, have sparked intense debate within the entertainment community.
“I want to acknowledge the conversation around my past social media posts that have caused hurt,” Karla said in a statement. “As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain. All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness. (sic)” The statement has received mixed reactions from industry professionals and social media users alike.
The controversy comes at a crucial time for Emilia Perez, which has been praised for its groundbreaking representation and storytelling. Industry experts note that such situations highlight the ongoing challenges faced by the entertainment industry in addressing historical social media content.
The film’s producers have maintained their support for both actresses while acknowledging the sensitivity of the situation. Several advocacy groups have called for broader discussions about accountability and growth in the public eye.
This incident has reignited conversations about social media’s impact on public figures and the entertainment industry’s approach to addressing controversial past statements. Media analysts suggest this could influence future industry practices regarding social media screening and accountability.
Despite the controversy, Emilia Perez continues to receive acclaim for its artistic merit and cultural significance. The film’s message of inclusion and understanding has resonated with audiences worldwide, garnering positive reviews at international film festivals.

Wendy Williams granted short leave for father’s celebration
Wendy Williams, the former daytime television powerhouse, received rare permission to leave her assisted living facility to celebrate her father’s 94th birthday in Miami. The two-day excursion marks a significant departure from her heavily restricted daily life, where she resides under court-mandated guardianship in New York City. This temporary freedom represents a rare bright spot in what has been a challenging period for the former queen of daytime television.
The judge’s decision requires private security accompaniment during her journey, highlighting the delicate balance between personal freedom and protective oversight. This temporary reprieve offers Williams a precious opportunity to reconnect with family members during this milestone celebration, something that has been notably absent from her life in recent months.
Williams’ current living situation presents a stark contrast to her previous life in the spotlight. Her residence in an assisted living facility has been characterized by severe limitations on her basic freedoms. The restrictions extend beyond physical confinement, encompassing digital isolation through limited internet access and heavily monitored communication channels. This controlled environment, while designed for protection, has raised concerns among advocates and supporters about the potential impact on her mental and emotional well-being.
The daily routine within the facility bears little resemblance to the vibrant lifestyle Williams once led. Access to visitors is strictly regulated, and her communication with the outside world is carefully monitored. These measures, while implemented under the guise of protection, have effectively isolated her from the support network she built over decades in the entertainment industry.
Saving Wendy, scheduled for release on February 12 on Tubi, promises to unveil the intricate details of Williams‘ life under guardianship. The documentary serves as a vital platform for understanding the complexities surrounding her current situation, especially given the court-imposed media restrictions that prevent her from sharing her story directly. This unprecedented look into her life under guardianship is expected to spark important discussions about personal autonomy and mental health care in the public sphere.
The documentary also examines the events that led to the implementation of the guardianship, providing context for the current restrictions while raising questions about the necessity of such extensive control over her daily life. It explores the fine line between protection and imprisonment, challenging viewers to consider the implications of such arrangements for individuals facing similar circumstances.
Williams‘ experience has inadvertently sparked crucial conversations within the African American community regarding mental health and autonomy. Her situation highlights the often-overlooked intersection of celebrity status, personal freedom, and mental health care, particularly within communities where such discussions have historically been taboo. The public nature of her struggles has helped destigmatize conversations about mental health and guardianship within these communities.
The impact of her story extends beyond individual circumstances, encouraging broader discussions about mental health resources and support systems available to those in crisis. Her journey has become a catalyst for examining how society addresses mental health challenges, particularly among high-profile individuals who face unique pressures and scrutiny.
The implications of Williams’ guardianship extend far beyond her personal circumstances. Her situation has drawn attention to the broader systemic issues surrounding guardianship laws and their impact on individual autonomy. The restrictions placed on her media interactions have effectively silenced a voice that once reached millions, raising questions about the balance between protection and personal agency.
These limitations have sparked debate among legal experts and civil rights advocates about the potential for reform in guardianship laws. The case has highlighted the need for more nuanced approaches to protecting vulnerable individuals while preserving their essential freedoms and dignity.
As Williams prepares for this brief reunion with family, her situation continues to evolve. The upcoming documentary promises to provide viewers with unprecedented insights into her daily life and ongoing challenges. Her journey serves as a powerful reminder of the delicate balance between necessary care and personal freedom, while potentially inspiring reform in how society approaches guardianship arrangements.
The temporary release for her father’s birthday celebration might represent a small step toward finding a more balanced approach to her care. As discussions continue about the appropriate level of oversight needed, many hope this brief taste of freedom could lead to positive changes in her guardianship arrangement.

Seven killed, at least 19 injured in fiery Northeast Philly plane crash; city stresses residents call 911 to report debris

Cleanup has resumed Saturday after a private medical jet carrying six people crashed in Northeast Philadelphia shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, creating a fiery explosion that killed seven people and hurt at least 19 people, according to city officials.
Mayor Cherelle Parker confirmed Saturday that all six passengers and one person in a car were killed in the crash. At least 19 people on the ground were injured after the explosion hurtled debris as far as six blocks from the crash, officials said.
Operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, the small aircraft was traveling from Philadelphia to Tijuana, Mexico, with a planned stop at Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri when it went down, setting several houses ablaze near Roosevelt Mall. The Learjet 55 was carrying two passengers, a mother and daughter, and four crew members, all of whom were from Mexico. Flight logs show the plane was only in the air for about a minute before crashing.
City officials stressed that residents in the area should call 911 if they see debris and should avoid touching it. Adam Thiel, city managing director, said emergency management teams are working on the ground to assess damage.
“This is still a very active and fluid situation,” he said. “It is entirely possible there will be changes to those casualty figures that you heard.”
It will take “days or more,” he said, for officials to determine the total number of casualties and injuries caused by the crash.
Parts of Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue remain cordoned off by law enforcement.Philadelphia’s Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania have established a shelter at Samuel Fels High School, located at 5500 Langdon St. Affected residents are asked to call 1-800 Red Cross to report property damage or for help filing a claim.
Red Cross Philadelphia said they have what they need at this time and asked people to refrain from bringing material donations.
“Everyone is here on the ground. They’re here on the ground not just to address you, but they’ve been here on the ground for their neighbors,” Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said Saturday. “I know that the good people of Northeast Philadelphia, this morning, as daybreak came, walked out from their homes, came down from their stoops and saw carnage in their communities, saw fuselage, saw destruction, and saw things that no one should ever have to experience in their neighborhoods.”
Videos posted online appear to show the aircraft falling rapidly before erupting into flames in the heavily-populated residential neighborhood near the mall. First responders rushed to the crash site where fires lit up the hazy evening sky.
“If there was ever a time when we needed to affirm what the one-Philly philosophy means, the time is now and I’m very proud about how our federal state and all of our local partners are working hard to deal with this tragedy,” Parker said at a press conference Friday.
The crash occurred only days after a deadly mid-air collision involving an American Airlines regional jet and a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter over the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. All 67 people on the two aircrafts are presumed dead.
A large, multi-agency contingent, including Pennsylvania State Police, PennDOT, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Authority and the state Department of Environment Protection, was mobilized to manage the site.
A Temple spokesperson said at least six people were admitted to Temple University Hospital’s Jeanes Campus with injuries related to the incident, three of which were released that night.
“What you’re seeing here is a unified response. to an awful aviation disaster,” Gov. Josh Shapiro said. “For as awful as that aviation disaster was, tonight we also saw the best of Philly. We saw neighbor helping neighbor. We saw Pennsylvanians looking out for one another.”
Shapiro said he spoke by phone with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, who dispatched four FAA personnel to support the investigation.
WItnesses described the chaos. Among them, 37-year-old Southampton resident and Ukraine native Vadim Osipov said he initially believed a nearby gas station had blown up when he saw a “mushroom explosion.”
He added that he feared the explosion was caused by a rocket, at first.
“I’m from Ukraine … but I know there’s war. You never know,” Osipov said. “Maybe there’s another world war coming here.”
Robin Tees, a 48-year-old from Bucks County, felt the catastrophe “hits home more than it did when it’s somewhere else,” referring to the earlier crash near Washington.
“It’s like a natural instinct for a human being to want to see the wreckage that they see that’s dominating the world news,” Tees said.
In a message on social media, At-Large Councilmember Jim Harrity offered support: “My prayers go out to those on board, their families, those on the ground, and all of our first responders who are working tirelessly to manage the crisis.”
He added that he’ll work with Councilmember Michael Driscoll, who represents District 6 in Northeast Philadelphia, “to help monitor the situation.”
The FAA said the National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation.

Diddy Denied Unrestricted Access to Cassie Tapes
Last month Bad Boy Entertainment CEO, Sean 'Diddy' Combs claimed the tapes of him and Cassie submitted to evidence actually proved his innocence by showing Cassie enjoying herself
Still, Diddy's request to unrestricted access to tapes has been denied...According to Hip Hop DX
Diddy‘s request to have unrestricted access to the “freak off” videos Cassie provided as evidence has been denied, with prosecutors claiming that the embattled mogul is showcasing a “willingness to violate the Protective Order in order to embarrass” her.
While Diddy has been able to review many of the tapes at his leisure, both alone and with his legal team, to help build his defense, some of the videos that Cassie herself provided have been deemed more sensitive. Thus, due to a Protective Order, they can only be viewed by Diddy and his attorneys in person, while they are monitored by law enforcement officials.

Thus, due to a Protective Order, they can only be viewed by Diddy and his attorneys in person, while they are monitored by law enforcement officials.
In a document filed with the court on Tuesday (January 28) and seen by HipHopDX, prosecutors told the judge they feel the access should not be granted. They noted that these videos are being more guarded for Cassie’s protection, and added: “The defendant’s apparent willingness to violate the Protective Order in order to embarrass Victim-1 [Cassie] and litigate this case in the public domain, as demonstrated by his filing of [his request for more access, which claimed that the encounters were consensual], underscores these concerns. There is now an even stronger basis for the Court to strictly regulate the defendant’s access to the Inspection-Only Videos.”
The judge ultimately denied Diddy’s request for more access, writing, “While the Government objects to handing the videos over, they provide several options for defendant to consider that would permit the defense to view the videos, access the information they are looking for, and even allow them to manipulate the videos as they see fit.”
In a touching moment that beautifully blends family love and newfound prosperity, WNBA star Angel Reese made her mother's birthday truly special during a recent episode of her YouTube show "Unapologetically Angel."
The 22-year-old Chicago Sky standout invited her mother, Angel Webb Reese, affectionately known as "Mama Angel," to join her on the podcast, offering a candid look at Reese's rise to basketball stardom while celebrating the older woman's brother.
Just as the birthday cake was presented, Reese dropped a life-changing bombshell. "Well, it's your birthday today," Reese began, a hint of excitement in her voice. "Before we sing 'Happy Birthday,' you said that if your mortgage was paid off that you would retire or you won't work. You can pick if you want to work still; your mortgage today has been paid."
Mama Angel was almost too stunned to speak, her face a tapestry of shock and overwhelming joy.
"Today your mortgage has been paid, you ain't got to worry about your mortgage no more and if you want to still work and keep yourself, you can keep yourself busy. But Jamel has it handled, shout out to Jamel for making it happen, and Janine, of course," Reese clarified.
The revelation left her mother speechless but overjoyed, wiping away tears as her daughter's generosity sunk in.
Reese's heartfelt gesture was met with widespread admiration. "That was my biggest goal in life to retire you and pay your mortgage or whatever you wanted not to work," Reese told her mom during the podcast. "You're a hard-working woman, you don't need me for no money. That's why I always say, 'She never needed me for no money.' "
Not stopping at the mortgage payoff, Reese also revealed her plans to buy a house in Chicago, inviting her mother to stay with her anytime. This additional act of love and thoughtfulness further deepened the emotional impact of the surprise.
Despite the hefty financial gift, Reese isn't solely reliant on her basketball salary. Although her rookie contract with the Chicago Sky is worth over $300,000 over four years, Reese's income is significantly boosted by lucrative endorsement deals with giants like Reebok, McDonald's, and others. These deals have collectively netted her approximately $1.7 million between 2022 and 2023, according to USA Today.
In her rookie year, Reese performed exceptionally, averaging 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game and nearly clinching the Rookie of the Year title.
This heartwarming story showcases Angel Reese's deep appreciation for her mother's sacrifices and unwavering support. It's a testament to the love that fuels her drive and success, making her not only a star on the court but also a cherished hero at home.

NBA legend Dwyane Wade has opened up about a shocking health scare that led to the removal of a cancerous tumor from his kidney. On his podcast, "The Why With Dwyane Wade," the retired player revealed that he had undergone surgery in December 2023 to remove 40% of his right kidney after doctors discovered a cancerous tumor during a full-body scan.
Wade's decision to seek medical attention came after he experienced issues with his stomach and bladder. They eventually led him to undergo the comprehensive scan that uncovered a potentially life-threatening issue.
Multiple doctors recommended surgery to remove the tumor immediately. Wade emphasized the gravity of the situation by noting, "Thank God that I did the surgery, right, because the tumor was cancerous."
He detailed how his father, who has his own battle with prostate cancer, walked him into the hospital for the procedure, and his wife, Gabrielle Union, was by his side as he woke up.
The time leading up to and following the surgery was extremely challenging for Wade. "I think it was the first time my family, my dad, my kids, they saw me weak. That moment was probably the weakest point I've ever felt in my life," Wade confessed. He described how the vulnerability and the struggle became a source of strength, thanks to his family's unwavering support.

Justin Tucker: Three More Massage Therapists Come Forward With Accusations Against Ravens Kicker

Three more massage therapists have come forward with allegations of sexually inappropriate behavior against Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker.
Earlier this week, the Baltimore Banner published its report where six Baltimore-area massage therapists accused Tucker of sexual misconduct. Following its publication, three more therapists — all of whom were employed at Baltimore luxury spa The QG — opened up about their own similar encounters with the All-Pro placekicker.
One of the women, called “M” in the Banner‘s new report to protect her identity, also shared an email she wrote to the QG’s management in May 2015 stating that even though Tucker is “an important client,” she could “no longer feel comfortable working on Justin Tucker.”
“He has made it a point in previous sessions to expose his erect genitals to me by untucking the drapes, regardless of how many times I have to redrape him and tell him he is messing up the drapes,” M wrote in the nearly decade-old email.
“Additionally, at his most recent appointment, he made it a point to run his fingers along my inner thigh,” and that after the appointment, M found “a large spot of ejaculation on my bottom sheet right where his genitals would have been laying on the table.”
M added, “This put me in a very compromising and uncomfortable situation.”
Despite M’s email to management, Tucker remained a client of the spa until he canceled his membership. Tucker’s lawyers provided the Baltimore Banner with an email, written by another QG massage therapist, telling Tucker it had “been a pleasure working with you the past few years.”
The author of the email, identified as “A,” told the Banner that it was one of her duties to write similar emails to high-profile clients, and shared her own experiences detailing Tucker’s inappropriate behavior, which included exposing his genitals. “I feel guilty for not speaking up sooner because maybe it could be brought to light sooner,” A said.
Tucker’s attorneys Thomas A. Clare and Steven J. Harrison previously denied the claims to the Banner, saying that Tucker “has never behaved inappropriately during any massage therapy session, and certainly never in the manner described.” They also called the latest accusations “unremarkable.”
Taking to social media on Thursday, Tucker called the allegations “unequivocally false” in an extensive statement posted on social media. He said that he’d “never before been accused of misconduct of anytime.” He said the Banner in particular was “deliberately misconstruing events as nefarious” while calling the newspaper’s report “desperate tabloid fodder.”
“I maintain I did not act inappropriately at any point before, during, or after a professional bodywork treatment session,” Tucker wrote. “I would never intent to offend or hurt anyone, ever.”
Tucker isn’t the first NFL star to face allegations like these from massage therapists. Over two dozen massage therapists accused Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual misconduct back in 2021, filing civil suits against him. The NFL gave him a slap on the wrist, suspending him for six games, and most of the suits have been settled.
M, who has since hired the law firm that is also representing six of Tucker’s other alleged victims, first approached Baltimore-area media about her accusations in 2015, but opted not to pursue the matter.
“The reason I didn’t go forward with it before was because I was terrified,” M told the Banner. “What if I’m the only one who comes forward? I’m just some girl, and I’m going up against the king of Baltimore.”

BARF BARF! ‘Dog Man’ Retrieves $35 Million Opening Weekend at Box Office
Universal/DreamWorks/Jellyfish Pictures’ “Dog Man” is helping ease theaters through a slow period at the box office, earning $10 million on its opening day as it is now projected for a $35 million opening at the box office.
Prior to release, projections for the animated adaptation of Dav Pikey’s graphic novels topped out at $27 million. But the appetite for family films that turned Disney’s “Mufasa” and Paramount’s “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” into holiday hits remains strong, and so is audience reception for “Dog Man” with an A on CinemaScore and an early 89% on the Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter.
Primarily animated by the UK-based Jellyfish Pictures, “Dog Man” carries a reported budget of just $40 million. Even if next week’s Super Bowl and upcoming competition like “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Paddington in Peru” hampers its potential for legs, “Dog Man” should easily turn a theatrical profit as it earns the second highest opening for a January animated release behind only the $41 million of “Kung Fu Panda 3” in 2016.
Also hitting theaters this weekend is Warner Bros./New Line’s “Companion,” which has earned rave reviews from critics with a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score. Industry estimates currently have the film earning a $9 million opening from 3,285 locations, meeting pre-release projections.
“Companion” has also earned a B+ on CinemaScore, higher than the B- of the recent breakout horror hit “Nosferatu.” With a reported $10 million budget, the film now looks to win over curious horror fans to leg out in theaters, as the common response from critics and early moviegoers is that the film is a demented twist on modern relationships that is better the less one knows about it.

Meagan Good Explains Why She Turned Down Roles With Excessive Nudity

During a recent sit-down with Cam Newton for his “Funk Friday” show, Good was asked the type of characters she would not portray under any circumstances. The former child star revealed that any job that could comprise her faith is a huge no-no.
“Anything that I feel like is displeasing to God and anything that I just, just is not in my heart or my spirit,” Good explained.
The “Think Like a Man” actress also shared that in her past, there have been productions that requested she show an unnecessary amount of skin. This is something that Good says she cannot support.
“There’s been things in the past where there was a certain amount of nudity and I was like, ‘But this doesn’t warrant this.’ For me, I feel like what you want me to do here, the journey there doesn’t warrant this moment. And so I’m not going to do it,” the 43-year-old shared. “And it broke my heart to say no because I was like, ‘Can we just not do this? Because I really love the rest of this journey.’ But to me it was gratuitous and I don’t want it that bad.”
Good is currently prompting the final season of Amazon Prime’s “Harlem.” She is also preparing for her second marriage to actor Jonathan Majors, whom she got engaged to in November 2024.
Elon Musk’s Team Gains Access to Federal Payment System—Including Your Financial and Other Sensitive Info
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has granted representatives from the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) access to the federal payment system, a move that gives Elon Musk and his team significant oversight over government spending.
The decision, made late Friday, has raised eyebrows across Washington, as it could enable Musk’s team to monitor—and potentially limit—federal disbursements.
The change followed a tense standoff between Musk’s allies and a senior Treasury official, David Lebryk, who resisted granting them access. Lebryk, a long-serving civil servant, was placed on leave and abruptly retired on Friday after the dispute, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The federal payment system is a crucial tool, responsible for distributing funds on behalf of the entire U.S. government. Some fear that this new access could provide the Trump administration with another avenue to restrict or control money already approved by Congress—something that has historically faced legal challenges.
President Trump has reportedly given Musk wide authority to identify ways to slash government spending. Musk, who has increasingly turned his focus to federal financial processes, criticized the Treasury Department on social media Saturday, accusing it of failing to reject enough payments as fraudulent or improper.
According to insiders, Musk’s allies were made official Treasury employees, passed background checks, and secured necessary security clearances. While they now have access to the system, they haven’t yet gained operational control, and no payments have been blocked so far. Officials claim the initiative is focused on auditing for improper payments rather than arbitrarily halting funds. Career Treasury attorneys reportedly signed off on the access, emphasizing that any systemic changes would undergo a thorough review and testing process.
The Department of Government Efficiency is not an official government agency but a special team created at Trump’s request and led by Musk. The group’s mission is to cut federal spending, shrink the government workforce, and streamline bureaucratic processes. Most of the team members were personally recruited by Musk and his aides.
As Musk’s role in federal operations grows, critics worry about the broader implications of private influence over public financial systems. The situation is being closely monitored as legal and political questions arise about the extent of Musk’s control over government spending.
