#MAGFAB: Variety Actors on Actors’: Audra McDonald and Jake Gyllenhaal on GYPSY and OTHELLO!

In a new conversation for VARIETY’s first-ever Broadway “Actors on Actors” issue, Audra McDonald and Jake Gyllenhaal discuss playing iconic villains in “Gypsy” and “Othello,” respectively. They talk about the pressure McDonald faces playing Rose, pre-show superstitions, preserving their voices during lengthy runs, cellphones going off during performances, and more. Handouts, highlights, and guidelines for image use below.
McDonald on the pressure she faces playing Rose: “After ‘Gypsy,’ I’m going to lie down for a year. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life…I’ve played hard roles before, but this vibrates on such a high level. I describe her as a hurricane. Not just vocally, but when you’re playing an iconic role, there’s the judgment that comes with it: ‘I saw Merman. I saw Tyne Daly. I saw Patti LuPone. And this is how it’s supposed to be done.’…We’ve turned the show on its head through a Black lens. All of a sudden, motivation seems different, even though we haven’t changed a word. Also, I have a voice that’s different than prior Roses.”

McDonald on how she approaches the iconic “Rose’s Turn”: “When we started, I was bombarded with other iconic performances in my head, and I was like, ‘Oh, hi, ladies. I have to figure out who I am in this song.’ There’s so much in ‘Rose’s Turn’ that can be about someone being held back because of their color and because they’re a woman. Once I let go of the iconic sound and how this has to be a big, bring-the-house-down, 11 o’clock number, I’ve been able to explore the abyss that Rose has fallen into at this point.”

Gyllenhaal on playing Iago: “I find Iago is different every night. Sometimes it veers into mustache-twirling more than it should, and sometimes he’s just brokenhearted. What’s most interesting about him is he’s not the guy who’s killing people right and left. He’s saying, ‘There’s a knife over there,’ and then somebody else goes and stabs the person with it. It’s very prescient in that way.”

Gyllenhaal and McDonald on their pre-show superstitions:

Gyllenhaal: “But I have weird superstitions. I have a thing about tying my shoelaces really tight. I have a quick change in the middle of the show, and people help me. When we were in the first run-through, one person had to tie my left shoe, and I had to tie the other one. I was literally like, ‘Are you sure you can tie it tight enough?’ What are your superstitions?”

McDonald: “I have the old-school ones. Don’t whistle backstage. Don’t say the title of the Scottish play inside of the theater.”

McDonald and Gyllenhaal on preserving their voices during lengthy runs:

McDonald: “Plays are harder than musicals because we think, ‘Well, I’m just talking,’ and forget to support our voice. I’ve found when I’ve done just straight plays, I’ve been in more vocal trouble. How are you handling that?

Gyllenhaal: “I struggled in the first few previews. To fall back on techniques makes me feel insecure. I’m used to doing 10 takes [on film]. If you go home and your voice is shot, you’re like, ‘At least they got it.’ So I do vocal warm-ups before the show. But forget about me. I love how meticulous a real, true singer is with their voice.”

McDonald: “It’s the neurosis of the singer. Every waking moment is ‘Oh my God, am I going to make it through the show tonight?’”

Gyllenhaal and McDonald on cellphones going off during their performances:

Gyllenhaal: “I did this monologue play, ‘Sea Wall/A Life,’ in 2019 and was instructed by the director that whatever happens, we would respond to it. But it’s different when it actually happens. It’s a little weird when a cellphone goes off, but our play is in modern times. I don’t call it out now. What about you?”

McDonald: “I have a little watergun…When I was doing ‘Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill,’ a cellphone went off close to the end, when Billie Holiday is high and drunk and dying at this point. At first I tried to ignore it, but then I was like, ‘What would Billie Holiday do?’ She’s slurring her words, refusing to sing and telling these horrible stories. The person is not turning their cellphone off, so I just went, ‘What the fuck is that?’ I snapped, and I’m sure I scared the shit out of the audience. But I had to acknowledge it.”

#RHOA: Porsha Williams Calls Out Drew Sidora's "Behind the Scenes Stuff" With Dennis: "Disappointing"
Drew Sidora showing up on Porsha Williams' Nashville trip uninvited (by the birthday girl, at least) on The Real Housewives of Atlanta actually got off to a better start than anyone expected. By the time her first cast dinner rolled around, however, Drew was packing her bags to leave the vacation early.

Drew attempted to address "the elephant in the room" in Season 16, Episode 8, asking Porsha in front of the rest of the group if she truly was "good with" her being there, despite receiving the invitation from Angela Oakley, rather than her directly.
"You straight," Porsha cooly replied, prompting Drew to eventually leave the meal prematurely.

In a confessional, Porsha referenced ex-fiancé Dennis McKinley while reacting to Drew's abrupt departure. "You hopped your ass on a flight to a woman's birthday party who you snuck around and did behind-the-scenes stuff with her child's father, and me saying, 'You straight,' made you leave?” the mom to 6-year-old Pilar Jhena “PJ” McKinley vented, before adding, "Sayonara."
What the rest of the women didn't know at the time was that Porsha’s aloof mood stemmed from her receiving a "disappointing" phone call just before the dinner.

"This person told me that Dennis had actually been filming on this show with Drew," she explained in a confessional, referring to RHOA. "That just sent me over the edge because Dennis and I had had a conversation about that specifically."
Indeed, a flashback from two months prior reminded viewers of Dennis' hot mic moment during which Porsha warned her ex that it would "be a problem" if he filmed RHOA scenes with Drew. Fast-forward just eight days, though, and cameras were in the music studio with Dennis and Drew anyway, unbeknownst to Porsha at the time.

"I was ultimately super disappointed that he chose opportunity over family," Porsha summed up.
A split of Porsha Williams, Dennis McKinley, and Drew Sidora.
Porsha Williams explained her frustrations with Dennis McKinley

Later filling in Cynthia Bailey on the new intel she'd gotten, Porsha admitted that her energy wasn't meant to be "directly" aimed at Drew or Angela, whom she also sparred with at the dinner table. "Going through divorce … when you're dealing with people and you get disappointed, it feels like it's a pile-on," she explained.
Porsha then asked Cynthia how she would feel if she started a podcast with one of her ex-husbands and "had to find out secondhand" that they’d filmed it for the show. (For the record, Cynthia "would not be OK" with that.)  "That's literally all it is. It wasn't all 100 percent [Drew] ... it's just a lot."

Ultimately, Porsha is reserving all the smoke for her ex, rather than Drew.
"Dennis is the one who was obligated to me. He is the one who has made an agreement with me [on] how we would behave as co-parents," she added in a confessional. "So, I'm not gonna bring none of that to her. I'm not gonna go to her and confront her about filming with him or whatever. But Dennis, on the other hand, he gonna get all of this."

Why Drew Sidora stormed out of Porsha Williams' birthday dinner
Prior to the Nashville dust-up, Drew — who has maintained that her relationship with Dennis is strictly professional — shared that she was hoping to get "some resolve and move past" her drama with Porsha. The cold response she received, however, didn't give her much hope of that happening.
"She gave me an answer that's like, nasty-nice, and at this point, I've extended olive branches, I showed up, and if that's the energy, then that's the energy," Drew announced to the other women, later adding, "This is just immature . . . I don't have to deal with this, actually, because I wasn't invited anyway."

Afterward, she referenced her contentious divorce from Ralph Pittman, elaborating to Angela and Shamea Morton, "Right now, my life, what I'm dealing with, it's not fair. I'm not gonna keep subjecting myself to insults and attacks. Like, it's too much."
As the drama plays out on RHOA, don't miss Porsha's honest reaction to those Drew and Dennis dating rumors.

#NewMusic from Eric Benét and Keri Hilson ‘Can’t Wait’!

Produced by Camper, “Can’t Wait” is a slickly constructed R&B-meets-disco groove that captures the anticipation of a night on the town with a significant other.
“I got my chains on / And my favorite cologne / The barber got me right,” Benét sings in the first verse. Hilson sings in verse two: “It’s like a theme song / Soon as you step inside, it’s on / They should have some champagne pourin’ / While the whole crowd sings along.”

Benét and Hilson harmonize in the chorus: “Can’t wait til I show up in there with you / You know what we came in this b–h to do /  I know I ain’t got nothin’ else to prove.”
Speaking on his new collaboration, Benét shares, “It has always been a dream of mine to release music with Keri,” says Benét.

He continues, “She’s an undeniably powerful songwriter, a phenomenal singer, and just a beautiful person inside and out. Being able to bring the vision of ‘Can’t Wait’ to life has been an incredible experience, and I am beyond excited to finally share this song with our fans!”
“Can’t Wait” is the lead single from Benét’s upcoming duets album, The Co-Star, set to release June 6 via his label JBR Creative Group. The Co-Star follows Benét’s 2024 EP, Duets.

The latter project included his No. 1 hit, “Something We Can Make Love To,” with Tamar Braxton, which topped Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, as well as “So Distracted” with Chanté Moore, currently at No. 7 on the same chart.
Regarding Duets, Benét told Rated R&B in a 2024 interview, “If I look back on my entire career, I think my duets were some of the most powerful songs. For the past 10 years, it’s always been in the back of my mind, like, ‘Yo, one of these days, I need to do a whole album where it’s all duets.’ This seems the perfect opportunity because I haven’t had a project out in like eight years.”

The Co-Star will also mark Benét’s first full-length project since his self-titled album, released in 2016. The album included the single “Sunshine,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Adult R&B Airplay chart.
As for Hilson, the Grammy-nominated singer released her long-awaited album, We Need to Talk: Love, on April 18. Her first project in 15 years, preceded by the lead single “Bae,” will be released in three installments with themes of drama and redemption on the way.

#HipHopNews: Kendrick Lamar Breaks Major Record On Grand National Tour Opening Night
Kendrick Lamar has another major achievement under his belt. The 37-year-old rapper set a major record on the opening night of his Grand National Tour with SZA and Mustard.
The stadium tour kicked off in Minneapolis on April 19. Touring Data recently reported that the show grossed $9.1 million from over 47,000 fans who paid an average of $192.70 per ticket. With these statistics, K. Dot can now boast that he has the highest-grossing Hip-Hop concert of all time, outpacing Eminem’s previous record from his 2019 show in Melbourne, Australia.

The Compton rapper also became the first rapper to perform at a concert that grossed over $9 million period. The Minneapolis show was historic for him and the “Snooze” singer, as it marked their most attended concerts of all time with 47,354 tickets sold for the U.S. Bank Stadium show. Since then, they have performed at NRG Stadium in Houston and AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. With 36 shows left, time will tell if the duo sets any other records.

Kendrick Lamar’s Grand National Tour is in support of his November 2024 album GNX. The 12-track LP debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and sold over 319,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. It spawned the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 records “Squabble Up” and the SZA-assisted “Luther,” the latter of which remains atop the chart and has held that spot for nine weeks.

SZA released the highly anticipated deluxe edition of 2022’s SOS, LANA, this past December ahead of the tour. The deluxe carried 19 records, including the popular single “Saturn,” a solo version of “Open Arms,” “Joni” featuring Don Toliver, and “30 For 30” featuring K. Dot.

OH CANADA! Prime Minister Carney declares election victory in Canada's Election!

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his country would “never” yield to the United States as he declared victory in federal elections early Tuesday, following a campaign overshadowed by relentless provocations and steep trade tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.

The Liberal Party leader issued a stunning rebuke to Trump as he sent a message of unity to a divided nation, promising to “represent everyone who calls Canada home.”
“As I have been warning for months, America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country. But these are not idle threats. President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us,” Carney said, as he hailed a remarkable reversal in fortune for his party. “That will never ever happen.”

Carney reiterated statements he made on the campaign trail about the vastly changed nature of Canada’s relationship with the US.
“We are over the shock of the American betrayal but we should never forget the lessons. We have to look out for ourselves. And above all we have to take care of each other,” he said.
Voters have returned Canada’s Liberal Party to power for a fourth consecutive term but it remains to be seen whether Carney has won a majority or will need coalition partners to govern.

The Liberal’s victory was tempered by them appearing set to fall short of winning the 172 seats needed to govern without support from a smaller party.
Conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre conceded defeat early Tuesday. Capping a bad night for his party, he’s also projected to lose the seat he’s held for nearly two decades.

Former central banker Carney, 60, has led a wave of anti-Trump sentiment since winning his party’s leadership contest in a landslide after former prime minister Justin Trudeau stepped down last month. He has rallied the public against the US president’s threats to annex the country as “the 51st state” and made the defense of Canada a central part of his platform.
Poilievre had been the favorite to win when Trudeau announced his resignation in January in the wake of dire polls, a serious cost of living crisis and an internal revolt in his cabinet.

But Trump’s tariffs on Canadian goods and threats to its sovereignty dramatically transformed the race into something of a referendum against the US president.
Poilievre said his Conservatives will work with Carney and other parties in “defending Canada’s interests” and “protecting our sovereignty.”
“We will always put Canada first as we stare down tariffs and other irresponsible threats from President Trump,” he said.

Carney had never held political office before becoming prime minister. His decades in finance saw him steering governments through major global crises and periods of upheaval, including shepherding Canada’s economy through the 2008 financial crisis. As governor of the Bank of England, he helped the United Kingdom navigate Brexit – which he said mirrors what could happen to the US in the face of tariffs.

‘No friend anymore’: Days from a national election, Canadian voters focus on the US relationship
The idea that Canada needs to forge its own path outside of US influence has been central to Carney’s messaging since he took office.
Carney pitched himself throughout the campaign as an experienced professional from the political center who can steward Canada’s economy through a period of profound turbulence.

“I understand how the world works,” Carney told podcaster Nate Erskine-Smith in October. “I know people who run some of the world’s largest companies and understand how they work. I know how financial institutions work. I know how markets work … I’m trying to apply that to the benefit of Canada.”

Trump’s tariffs against Canadian exports pose a grave threat to the country’s economy and lasting stability. The US president’s decision to levy a 25% duty on Canadian steel and aluminum, cars and car parts, and threats to tariff pharmaceuticals and lumber have shaken Canadian businesses and pushed the country toward recession. It’s a reality Carney has not sugarcoated, warning of “tough days ahead” with pressure on Canadian employment.

But the prime minister has pledged to “build things in this country again” to make Canada less reliant on the US: new homes, new factories, and new sources of “clean and conventional energy.”
Carney has not ruled out continued talks with Trump, but he has also been moving to deepen ties with more “reliable” allies. In an unusual move, his first prime ministerial trip abroad was to Europe, where he spoke to French and British officials about deepening security, military and economic ties.

In his victory speech early Tuesday, Carney said that when he does sit down with Trump, “it will be to discuss the future economic and security relationship between two sovereign nations.”
“And it will be with the full knowledge that we have many, many other options than the US to build prosperity for all Canadians,” he said.
Many Canadians see Carney as someone well-placed to navigate a trade war with a long-standing ally, experts say.

“In a crisis it’s important to come together and it’s essential to act with purpose and with force. And that’s what we will do,” Carney said earlier this month as he positioned himself as the leader to take on Trump.
Another upset on Tuesday was the future of the New Democratic Party, which has so far not won enough seats to keep its party status. The NDP, a centre-left party, has played a key role during previous Liberal Party minority governments. Party leader Jagmeet Singh announced he would step down after failing to retain his seat.
“He has an important job to do, to represent all Canadians and to protect our country and its sovereignty from the threats of Donald Trump,” Singh said of Carney.

Terrence Howard Says He Would “Cut His Lips Off” If He Had To Kiss A Man For A Role
Terrence Howard has drawn a line regarding what he will and won’t do onscreen, revealing that he’d never kiss a man for an acting role and hyperbolically insisting he’d “cut his lips off” if he were forced to do so.
The conversation arose on Club Random with Bill Maher as Howard and Maher discussed potential roles the Oscar-nominated actor could take on, including Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and the son of Billy Dee Williams. Howard shared that his biggest career mistake was passing on starring in a biopic about Robinson due to a verbal commitment with Lee Daniels to star in a Marvin Gaye biopic. While neither project came to fruition, Howard claims that the late Quincy Jones once confirmed to him that Gaye was a closeted homosexual. For Howard, that ended discussions of him playing the R&B icon.

“I’m asking Quincy, I’m hearing rumors that Marvin was gay…and I’m like, ‘was he gay?’ And Quincy’s like, ‘Yes.’ They would’ve wanted to do that, and I wouldn’t have been able to do that,” Howard said of portraying a gay relationship onscreen as Marvin.
“You mean you couldn’t kiss a guy in a movie?” Maher asked, to which Howard replied, “No, because I don’t fake it.” Maher then agrees that he wouldn’t kiss a man for a gig either, as Howard adds, “that would f**k me, I would cut my lips off.”

“Well, I would not do that,” Maher replied, “but it does not make me homophobic to not want to kiss a man.”

The pair also discuss Howard, “clashing with studios over money, why Empire was both a blessing and a headache,” and “swap stories about celebrity parties and canceled careers,” as well as several other topics.

Mary J. Blige Sued for $5 Million by Misa Hylton and Rapper Vado Over Alleged Album Sabotage and Contract Interference

Mary J. Blige Sued for $5 Million by Misa Hylton and Rapper Vado Over Alleged Album Sabotage and Contract Interference
In a turn of events that no one saw coming, longtime friends Misa Hylton and Mary J. Blige are embroiled in a court battle over a soured business deal.

According to All Hip-Hop, Blige is being sued by Hylton and rapper Vado for allegedly derailing his career and withholding his album to dissolve their business ties. The $5 million lawsuit, filed in New York, claims Blige sabotaged their relationship to sever Vado’s management contract with Hylton’s agency, M.I.S.A Management.

The Grammy Award winner is accused of withholding Vado’s completed album to pressure him into cutting ties with Hylton, a longtime associate and the R&B singer’s former stylist. Hylton and Vado assert that Blige and her company, Beautiful Life Productions, interfered with a signed management agreement that entitled M.I.S.A to 20 percent of the rapper’s earnings.

According to court documents, Blige allegedly persuaded Vado to abandon M.I.S.A during private yacht gatherings, hotel meetings, and exclusive events where M.I.S.A representatives were “intentionally left out.”

Anthony Anderson Shares Gout Diagnosis From Eating Shellfish

Anthony Anderson is getting candid on an unusual health scare.The Black-ish star shared that he was diagnosed with gout—a form of arthritis—after eating too much shellfish while filming the 2007 show K-Ville in New Orleans.
“I was eating nothing but seafood and shellfish," he said on the April 28 episode of the Armchair Expert podcast, per People. "All the purine in the shellfish contributed to my buildup of uric acid and—I'll never forget—I was in the scene, and I went to kick a door in. And I hit it. And I said, 'I think I broke my toe.'"

Some shellfish contains the chemical compound purine, which creates uric acid when it's broken down in the body, per the Mayo Clinic. High levels of uric acid can cause crystals to form in the bloodstream, which can lead to gout.

For Anderson, 54, his condition worsened after he hit his toe on set.
“I finished the scene, then we moved locations," he explained. "We were filming in a hotel in the middle of the night and I was laying across the bed and they said, 'Action,' and I jumped up to run and chase the perp, and I put pressure on my right foot and I collapsed. And I was like, 'Oh yeah, broke my toe.' I went to the doctor the next day limping."

Medical professionals told Anderson—who was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2002—that he didn't break his toe, but was, in fact, diagnosed with gout.
"You motherf----r," Anderson remembered saying at the time. "If you look at it, it looks red hot. If you put your hand above it, you can feel the heat coming off of it."
Indeed, that can be a common symptom of gout, according to the Mayo Clinic.

"It's characterized by sudden, severe attacks of pain, swelling, redness and tenderness in one or more joints, most often in the big toe," reads the medical website. "An attack of gout can occur suddenly, often waking you up in the middle of the night with the sensation that your big toe is on fire. The affected joint is hot, swollen and so tender that even the weight of the bedsheet on it may seem intolerable."

Beyonce Brings Out Daughters Blue Ivy And Rumi During Cowboy Carter Tour Kick-Of

Beyonce Knowles officially kicked off her "Cowboy Carter" and the Rodeo Chitlin' Circuit Tour on April 28 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The tour's opening night was a family affair highlighted by unforgettable moments, powerful performances, and a celebration of familial love.
13-year-old Blue Ivy Carter returned to the stage, dancing front and center during "America Has a Problem." The crowd roared with approval while Beyoncé beamed proudly from the sidelines. The excitement continued when Beyoncé's younger daughter, Rumi, made her onstage debut during the tender ballad "Protector."

"Even though I know someday you're gonna shine on your own, I will be your protector," Beyoncé sang, as Rumi joined her and Blue under the spotlight. The emotional performance concluded with the three standing together, sharing an intimate family moment that left fans reaching for tissues.

The night was also a reminder of Blue Ivy's growing presence in her mother's performances. She had previously performed in the 2023 Renaissance World Tour and had a solo spot during the Beyoncé Bowl NFL halftime show on Christmas Day in 2024. However, it marked a new chapter for Rumi and hinted at a possible future in performing like her elder sister.
The tour, which spans 32 stadium shows across the U.S. and Europe and wraps up in Las Vegas on July 26, also highlights Beyoncé's historic accomplishments. She made history at SoFi Stadium by playing more dates than any other artist.

Xzibit Files to Become Legally Single as Divorce Battle Drags On
After years of trying to finalize his split from Krista Joiner, rapper and actor Xzibit is taking new steps to end his marriage officially. According to court documents, Xzibit filed in Los Angeles earlier this week to have his marital status legally changed to “single,” even though the rest of the divorce proceedings are still ongoing.

The request, known as bifurcation, would allow Xzibit to be legally recognized as single while negotiations over child support, spousal support, and division of assets continue. The rapper cited the couple’s long separation—more than four years—as a reason for the filing. While a trial date is scheduled for next month, Xzibit indicated he expects the full process could stretch on longer and wants to move forward with his life in the meantime.

Xzibit’s legal team also claimed they have reached out to Krista and her attorneys multiple times recently to finalize the divorce, but have not received any response since earlier this month.

This latest development follows months of tensions between the former couple. Just a few months ago, Krista requested that the court increase her spousal support by an additional $30,000 per month, arguing that she needed the funds to maintain the luxurious lifestyle she had enjoyed during their marriage.
As of now, a judge has not yet ruled on Xzibit’s request for bifurcation, but if approved, it would mark a significant step toward him reclaiming his single status while the financial aspects of the divorce are settled.

Naomi Campbell says she feels too old for Met Gala

Naomi Campbell feels “too old” for the Met Gala. The iconic fashion event draws the biggest names in entertainment and fashion each year. The 54-year-old supermodel won’t be attending the annual New York fashion extravaganza next month but she is no longer able to deal with the “anxiety” it brings. Campbell has been a fixture at the prestigious event for over two decades, making her one of its most recognizable attendees.
In a new installment of her YouTube series ‘Being Naomi’, the star showed off a behind-the-scenes of preparing for last year’s gala, including the fittings for her turquoise Burberry gown. The YouTube series has garnered significant attention since its launch, offering fans glimpses into Campbell’s life and career.

“This is my last Met. It is my last. I can’t… I’m too old. It’s too much for me, the anxiety,” she admitted. “I don’t know what number this is, I think it could be either 20 or 21, can you imagine.” Campbell’s history with the Met Gala dates back many years, establishing her as one of the event’s most enduring presences.

Each year, the Met Gala – which is co-chaired by Vogue’s Anna Wintour and a panel of other famous faces – has a theme for guests to center their outfits around, with 2024’s being ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ and this year’s being ‘Superfine: Tailoring Black Style’. The gala serves as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

However, Naomi admitted she never pays attention to the topic in question. Fashion observers note that Campbell has consistently brought her own unique style to the event regardless of theme.
“I don’t follow themes, sorry. I just flow. I think it’s something to do with Sleeping Beauty, awakening something. I’m sorry,” she said. Campbell’s approach to fashion has always been characterized by her authentic personal style, which has influenced generations of models.

In September, Naomi drew gasps when she took an apparent swipe at Anna when she received the Fashion Icon Award at Fashion Row’s Fashion Show and Style Awards in Harlem, New York, when she branded the Vogue boss the “other woman” in an apparent response to the 74-year-old journalist calling out her renowned lack of punctuality. The incident sparked widespread discussion in fashion circles.
Taking to the stage, the New York Post newspaper reports Anna had said to laughs from the crowd: “I am a very punctual person, and I have the honor of presenting tonight to someone who is often late.” Wintour has been editor-in-chief of Vogue since 1988 and has chaired the Met Gala for decades.

Harper’s Bazaar editor-in-chief Samira Nasr then offered a second introduction to Naomi, and as she accepted her award, the model said: “It’s so important that I’m here today, and I’m honored to be here in Harlem. Everything’s going to work out the way it’s going to work out.” Harlem has long been an important cultural center for fashion and creativity.

Referring to Anna, she said: “It wasn’t my choice to have the other woman.” She then gestured to Samira and said: “I’d much rather have this.” The relationship between Campbell and Wintour has been closely watched by fashion insiders throughout their careers.
The crowd gasped but Naomi insisted she had to be honest because she has “always been unapologetically truthful.” Throughout her career, Campbell has been known for her candid nature and willingness to speak her mind in an industry often characterized by carefully crafted statements.

But later in her speech, Naomi praised Anna for offering her support when she was starting out in the fashion industry. Campbell‘s career began in the mid-1980s when she was discovered as a teenager, quickly rising to become one of the industry’s most prominent Black supermodels.
“We must still say thank you to Anna Wintour, as she did take the time to come here and give me the award even though I wasn’t here,” she said. “So thank you, Anna Wintour, for your support in my career from 1987, meeting a young black girl from South London in British Vogue offices and taking a chance in giving me a shoot. And so, I thank you for your influence and your continuing support in pushing fashion forward also.” Campbell’s acknowledgment of Wintour’s role in her career highlights the complex relationships that often exist between fashion’s prominent figures.

Lizzo stuns in leopard glam for fabulous birthday
Turning another year older never looked so good as Grammy-winning artist Lizzo celebrated her birthday with a stunning photoshoot and intimate gathering that reminded fans why she remains a beacon of self-love and authenticity in the entertainment industry.

Making a statement is nothing new for the celebrated musician, but her birthday ensemble took things to another level entirely. The artist showcased her curves in a form-fitting leopard print gown that featured a plunging halter neckline and figure-hugging silhouette that perfectly embodied her confident personal brand.
The show-stopping dress wasn’t working alone – Lizzo completed the look with matching opera-length gloves in the same wild pattern, creating a cohesive and dramatic effect that commanded attention. Her hair, styled in a glamorous updo with soft curls and face-framing bangs, added a touch of vintage Hollywood to the modern celebration.

Her makeup amplified the glamour with warm eyeshadow tones, fluttery lashes, and a glossy nude lip that balanced the boldness of her outfit with sophisticated beauty.
Beyond the stunning visuals, Lizzo shared a more vulnerable side of her birthday experience. The artist revealed she had been struggling with anxiety leading up to her special day – a refreshingly honest admission from someone whose public persona radiates confidence.

The turning point came during a dinner surrounded by those closest to her. The simple joy of being with loved ones brought emotional release, reminding both Lizzo and her followers about what truly matters in life.
While birthdays often focus on material gifts, Lizzo emphasized something far more valuable – the presence of supportive people and moments of genuine connection. Her reflections highlighted how even celebrities with access to luxurious celebrations can find the greatest fulfillment in basic human connection.

The artist’s appreciation extended to her massive fanbase as well. Her acknowledgment of feeling full, happy, and deeply blessed demonstrated that despite her superstar status, Lizzo maintains a grounded perspective on what brings authentic joy.
For fans who have followed Lizzo‘s career, this birthday celebration represents more than just turning another year older. It symbolizes the continued evolution of an artist who has consistently championed body positivity, self-acceptance, and emotional honesty.

Philadelphia Eagles RB Saquon Barkley Defends Golf Date With Donald Trump Amid Backlash

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is setting the record straight after catching heat for his recent golf outing with Donald Trump.
While quarterback Jalen Hurts‘ appearance at the White House is still up in the air, it looks like Barkley will be in Washington, D.C., to visit President Trump on April 28.
A day before the planned visit, Barkley was spotted exiting Marine One alongside Trump and later hitting the green at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.

After receiving a wave of criticism, Saquon Barkley jumped on X (formerly Twitter) to clear the air.
He wrote that people were upset because he played golf and flew to the White House with the President.
He emphasized that he respects the office, calling it “not a hard concept to understand.”
Saquon also pointed out that he recently played golf with Barack Obama and is simply looking forward to finishing a round with Trump.

He closed his message by telling critics to get out of his mentions and “have an amazing day.” Of course he got dragged in the process.

George Santos begs Donald Trump for a pardon days after saying he’d never do that

George Santos has asked President Trump for a pardon.
“This is the hardest statement I have ever written,” wrote the disgraced gay former congressman on X Friday evening. Santos was sentenced to more than seven years in prison on Friday for defrauding Congress, voters, and his supporters.
Gay GOP former Rep. George Santos sentenced to 7 years in prison for fraud

A lack of remorse prompted prosecutors to ask for the maximum sentence; the judge in the case agreed.
Santos’ crimes included wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, money laundering, and multiple other schemes betraying the trust of the public and his constituents.
The pardon plea was a reversal for the 36-year-old convicted felon, who said in multiple interviews before his sentencing that he wouldn’t stoop to begging for clemency.

And then he did just that.“I write this humbled, chastened, and fully accountable for choices that shattered the faith so many placed in me,” Santos wrote before his live fashion coverage of the White House Correspondents Dinner (WHCD) Saturday night. “I betrayed the confidence entrusted to me by many. For that, I offer my deepest apology.”
“When I pled [sic] guilty, I did so without reservation,” Santos continued. “I said then, and I repeat now, that my conduct betrayed my supporters and diminished the institution I was privileged to serve.”

Now, however, Santos is questioning the wisdom of his full-throated courtroom mea culpa.
“Those words have weighed on me every day since,” Santos said, betraying regret that his absolute admission of guilt didn’t sway the judge in his case, Joanna Seybert in the Eastern District of New York, from throwing the book at him. She imposed the maximum possible sentence for Santos’ crimes.

Now he’s calling his seven-year stretch “politically influenced” — catnip for a president obsessed with upending judicial norms.
“I asked the Court for a sentence that balances accountability with the chance to prove through sustained, measurable action that I can still contribute positively to the community I wronged,” Santos wrote, winding up for his big pitch.

“I believe that 7 years is an over the top politically influenced sentence and I implore that President Trump gives me a chance to prove I’m more than the mistakes I’ve made.” Santos signed off, “Respectfully.”

The expelled congressman stayed busy over the weekend, waiting for an answer and likely refreshing his Truth Social feed multiple times. He did a live critique of the WHCD red carpet, reposted Libs of TikTok propaganda, and introduced a countdown clock to his time behind bars.
“T-89 Days!” he posted Sunday.
With no news of a pardon by Monday, Santos seemed resigned to his fate — or was he working in another, veiled plea to the president?
“When life gets hard, DANCE!” he posted Monday morning ahead of an online dance class featuring “Abracadabra” by Lady Gaga.
“Hold me in your heart tonight, in the magic of the dark moonlight,” the song goes. “Save me from this empty fight, In the game of life.”

Bad Bunny to close out 50th season of “SNL”
Bad Bunny is heading back to Studio 8H — and this time, he’s capping off a historic run. The Puerto Rican superstar will join host Scarlett Johansson as the musical guest for “Saturday Night Live,” which is bringing its 50th season to a close with a May 17 finale. The show will mark Benito’s fourth “SNL” appearance (including a cameo in 2020) and follows his viral turn as both host and performer in 2023.

This finale will arrive months after the release of Bad Bunny’s latest album, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, a deeply personal, diverse project that topped the Billboard 200. Described by the artist as his “most Puerto Rican album ever,” the LP saw him dig into his roots with a mix of reggaeton, salsa, Bomba and raw storytelling. The “SNL” stage has long been a proving ground for music’s elite, and his return feels like a victory lap after yet another game-changing body of work.

The remainder of “SNL50” is packed
The season’s final three episodes are stacked. On May 3, “Beautiful Things” singer Benson Boone will make his “SNL” debut alongside host Quinta Brunson. The following week, May 10, “White Lotus” star Walton Goggins will host with indie rock veterans Arcade Fire performing. The build-up has been strong, with this golden anniversary season already delivering standout sets from GloRilla, Billie Eilish and Chappell Roan, plus buzzy hosting gigs from the likes of Timothée Chalamet and Lady Gaga.

Hopefully, Bad Bunny will not only celebrate his recent musical success but also preview what could be next for one of the world’s most streamed and talked-about artists. Given the show’s history of leaning into surprises and unforgettable moments, expect the Latin star to bring more than just the hits.

Meanwhile, the Ivy League took notice of Bad Bunny
While he’s lighting up late-night television, Bad Bunny is also inspiring academia. Yale University recently announced a fall course titled “Bad Bunny: Musical Aesthetics and Politics,” which uses DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS as a core text to explore Puerto Rican identity, colonialism and diaspora through the artist’s music. “Bad Bunny is interesting for many reasons… he’s also a global star,” said Professor Albert Laguna, who designed the course, to The New York Times.

This isn’t the first college-level class to spotlight the Latin trap icon — similar courses have appeared at Wellesley College and Loyola Marymount University. Still, it’s a testament to how Benito’s influence now spans charts, stadiums and classrooms alike.
Still, for most fans, the next stop is NBC to watch Bad Bunny hit the “SNL” stage this May.

Trump Admin Plans To Cut Suicide Hotline For LGBTQ+ Youth, According To Leaked Memo
The Trump administration is planning on cutting funding for the 988 suicide hotline specialized in LGBTQ+ services, according to a leaked memo outlining the restructuring of the Department of Health and Human Services. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services will be eliminated on October 1, 2025, according to The Trevor Project.

“Suicide prevention is about risk, not identity. Ending the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline’s LGBTQ+ youth specialized services will not just strip away access from millions of LGBTQ+ kids and teens – it will put their lives at risk,” Jaymes Black, the CEO of The Trevor Project said. “These programs were implemented to address a proven, unprecedented, and ongoing mental health crisis among our nation’s young people with strong bipartisan support in Congress and signed into law by President Trump himself.”

“I want to be clear to all LGBTQ+ young people: This news, while upsetting, is not final. And regardless of federal funding shifts, The Trevor Project remains available 24/7 for anyone who needs us, just as we always have,” they added.
LGBTQ+ youth are a population at risk when it comes to suicide
Suicide is one of the leading causes of death among those aged 10 to 24-years-old. LGBTQ+ youth is four times more likely to attempt dying of suicide than their peers.

“Suicide remains a serious public health concern in the U.S., and we know from research that certain groups have higher risk, including Veterans and LGBTQ+ youth. This is why these groups have dedicated services within the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, where uniquely trained counselors help prevent suicide in these disproportionately impacted populations,” Robert Gebbia, the CEO of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention said. “We understand that funding may be eliminated for 988 LGBTQ+ specialized services, and we urge the administration to continue its existing support for crisis services, including those for at-risk LGBTQ+ youth. These crisis response services are effective and save young lives.”

988 was implemented under the previous Trump administration with bipartisan efforts
The phone line was set in place after Donald Trump signed a bipartisan bill in October 2020. It was then launched in July 2022 under the Joe Biden administration. It opened as a hotline for those seeking mental health support, according to CNN. The government has invested around $1.5 billion into this project.

The program has served 14 million crisis calls since its creation. The Trevor Project took on 50% of services to LGBTQ+ youth who requested a specialized line.
Shortly after its launch, the 988 hotline included a subnetwork for specialized services, which included service for LGBTQ+ people, as well as a special line in Spanish and for veterans.

“There’s been some discussion and questions about whether the LGBTQ+ line will remain, and so I am concerned about that part of 988,” Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, HHS’s assistant secretary for mental health and substance during the Biden administration, said. “I’m concerned about SAMHSA overall. Certainly, there have been a lot of questions.”
