#MAGFAB: Audra McDonald For TIME Magazine She Is Our Greatest Living Stage Actor
If you happen to take your eyes off the stage during the first few minutes of Gypsy on Broadway, and turn instead to the aisle, you’ll see a woman standing alone in the dark. She’s in a velvet coat, holding a small dog, her face contorted into a grimace of ambition so fierce it looks something like rage, her eyes focused on the children dancing onstage as her hands twitch to the beat of the music. At first, nobody notices her, even though she is Audra McDonald, arguably the greatest living stage actor, even though she is already in character as Mama Rose, the most famous and reviled stage mother in musical theater. Then, she calls out her first line (“Sing out, Louise!”) and every head turns in unison. She is the person they have come to see, and she had been standing there next to them all along.

“Rose snuck in,” she tells me, leaning back on a cushioned chair in her dressing room, four hours before curtain. Her hair, prepped for her wig, is tucked under a baseball cap, and she is wearing comfy clothes before getting into costume. “When all the rest of the mothers have been kicked out, she snuck in, went in front, checked out what was going on. She’s already miles ahead when the show starts.”

The same could be said, in some sense, of McDonald. After rumors of her casting spread last year—“You know, people talk, people talk,” she said—the announcement was met with excitement and anticipation. And since the show opened in December, she’s been garnering widespread praise, with at least one critic having a “spiritual epiphany.”

“When you talk about Greta Garbo, you think of that face. When you think about Ethel Merman, you hear that voice,” says Christine Baranski, who worked with McDonald on The Good Fight and The Gilded Age. “With Audra, it’s that lustrous presence.”

Gypsy is a musical fable that follows Mama Rose’s relentless pursuit of fame for her daughters throughout Depression-era America, resulting in her losing one, June, altogether and pushing the other, Louise, to become the burlesque dancer Gypsy Rose Lee. It’s a show about the American Dream, or, more precisely, it’s a show about a mother’s American Dream, one that for most of history could be expressed only through her children. The show, with its famed music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, is frequently referred to as the King Lear of Broadway, and Mama Rose is one of the meatiest roles available to a performer. “This is the Shakespeare of a musical theater woman’s career,” says Norm Lewis, who co-starred with McDonald in The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess, for which she won her fifth Tony. “This is the pinnacle.”

She’s been played by luminaries like Ethel Merman, Tyne Daly, Bernadette Peters, Angela Lansbury, and Patti LuPone in the past, but until now, Mama Rose had never been played on Broadway by a Black actor. If anybody was going to do it, it was going to be McDonald. (LuPone's representative said the actor was "going to pass" on commenting for this story.)

McDonald is like the Meryl Streep of theater, except McDonald has more Tonys than Streep has Oscars. McDonald holds the record for most Tonys ever won by a performer, and is the only person to have a Tony in all four acting categories. And when her 11th nomination was announced on May 1, she officially became the most Tony-nominated performer in history, at just 54 years old.

And yet McDonald’s record-breaking performance comes at a unique moment for American theater. More and more audiences seem to be coming to Broadway to see shows and actors they recognize from their screens. The biggest shows are still the old standbys—Wicked, The Lion King—and some of the buzziest productions boast Hollywood names. Even as McDonald’s Mama Rose puts theatergoers in seats—Gypsy took in a respectable $1,891,769 in its highest-grossing week in January—it’s still the TV and movie stars who are bringing the big money to Broadway. Othello, starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal, raked in $2,818,297 during a week in previews, making it the top-grossing play in Broadway history, only to be topped by George Clooney’s Good Night, and Good Luck, which in May became the first Broadway show to exceed $4 million in a week. Glengarry Glen Ross, featuring Kieran Culkin and Bob Odenkirk, also crossed the $2 million mark.

All of this makes McDonald’s dominance even more remarkable; at a time when theater seems like it’s being consumed by celebrity, her career represents a commitment to the old-fashioned principles of artistry. “She has some ability to access the rawest and most visceral emotional life and continue to sing,” says Diane Paulus, who directed her in The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess. “That’s what’s mind-blowing.”
McDonald can walk down the street without being recognized, and she’s mostly able to live her life without being accosted by fans. When audiences arrive at the Majestic Theatre, they’re not coming to see her because she’s famous, they’re not there to take a photo or breathe the same air as a movie star; they’re there to witness her raw talent. “It’s not, Oh, let’s look at this perfect object,” says Gypsy director George C. Wolfe, who also directed McDonald in Shuffle Along as well as the movie Rustin. Her talent “makes an audience feel compelled to become vulnerable in the presence of her character’s vulnerability.”

Sitting in her dressing room surrounded by four different bouquets, including roses from Sunset Boulevard’s Nicole Scherzinger, widely assumed to be her main competition at the Tonys on June 8, I ask McDonald: What is talent? Is it inspiration? Is it 10,000 hours of practice? Is it, as entrepreneurs like to say, just hard work? She pauses for a second, thinking. “I think it’s an open channel connection to the divine, whatever the divine means to you,” she says quietly, preserving her voice. “Something coming through, that energy, that source, God, whatever you call it. It’s an open channel connection to that. Just a turnpike, no roads in the way.” Get more at TIME

#RHOA: Cynthia Bailey Speaks on Kenya Moore’s Potential RHOA Comeback
Kenya Moore and Cynthia Bailey have grown close in the 15 years they’ve filmed The Real Housewives of Atlanta together.
Since Kenya lost her peach after displaying sexually explicit images of Brit Eady Cynthia misses their friendship. Though she initially condemned Kenya’s actions, she’s now ready to move on and talk to her friend.

Ousted from the show following the incident, Bravo indefinitely suspended Kenya from RHOA. Now viewers are starting to wonder if Kenya is gone for good or if she’ll eventually return.
Just a few episodes into Season 16, Brit and Kenya got into a verbal altercation at an RHOA event. Frustrated with Kenya’s attitude, Brit told her, “I’m not playing games. I’ve got whips, pistols, I’ve got everything … Don’t play that with me.”

But following a Bravo investigation, they found that Brit never even had a gun. If she had a weapon in her possession while filming, that would have been a violation of the network’s policy. Since no weapon was found, Brit was allowed to stay on the show. Though it was a nasty thing to say, Brit’s words were just an empty threat.
However, Kenya’s retaliation with the explicit photos of her nemesis got her on the naughty list. At the opening of the Kenya Moore Hair Salon, the entrepreneur displayed giant posters of the photos. After her own Bravo investigation, producers decided Kenya violated her Housewives code of conduct, and she was suspended for the rest of the season.

At Adrienne Maloof’s women’s health benefit in May, Cynthia spoke about how much she misses her friend. “Losing Kenya was hard for me because she’s one of the best to ever do this reality TV thing,” she told The U.S. Sun. “She’s a phenomenal Housewife, and in time, I do think she will find her way back, absolutely.”
The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays at 8/7c on Bravo.

#MusicNews: Leon Thomas Shares ‘HEEL’ Tracklist, Calls It The Other Side Of ‘MUTT’:

Leon Thomas clearly knows the recipe for a good deluxe album. Recently, the singer revealed the official tracklist for MUTT Deluxe: HEEL, the expanded edition of his sophomore album originally released last year.
“New sounds. Same soul. The other side of the story,” he captioned an Instagram post announcing the LP, which will add an additional nine records — some remixes, others previously unheard material — to the original 14-record lineup. He’ll be teaming up with Big Sean on two records, including “PARTY FAVORS” and a new version of “VIBES DON’T LIE.” Also on the project is Kehlani, whom Thomas teased a collaboration with in his sit-down with BBC Radio 1Xtra in February.

The deluxe wouldn't be complete without the Chris Brown-assisted remix of “MUTT” or “RATHER BE ALONE” featuring Halle Bailey, both of which were released earlier in the year. The first-mentioned track peaked at No. 13, propelled by R&B mainstays teaming up, while the latter offered fans a welcome change of pace compared to Thomas’ earlier album cuts.

How SZA Inspired The Deluxe Version Of Leon Thomas’ ‘MUTT’
Interestingly enough, SZA, whom Thomas worked with on “Snooze,” partially influenced the creation of MUTT Deluxe: HEEL. The “YES IT IS” singer told Billboard that he took a page out of the Top Dawg Entertainment songstress’ playbook with LANA, the deluxe version of SOS she dropped nearly two years after the original.

“I was really inspired by [SZA’s] LANA and how she gave us a whole new energy. I even saw a resurgence of ‘Snooze’ right after that drop, on the production and songwriting side, which was really good,” Thomas shared with the publication, noting that he was already searching for “healthy ways to breathe life back into” MUTT.

What Else To Expect On ‘MUTT Deluxe: HEEL’
Aside from the aforementioned songs, Thomas will treat listeners to a number of new records across the expanded album’s C and D sides: “HEEL,” “NOT FAIR,” “PRIZE” and “CATCH A STRAY.” The deluxe version will arrive next Friday (May 30),

#HipHopNews: Akademiks Promises Violence On Ab-Soul Over Diss Track
Akademiks has promised extreme violence against Ab-Soul in response to being dissed on a new song.
The West Coast rapper’s untitled track references Joey Bada$$’s ongoing beef with the West Coast and concludes with some choice words for the controversial streamer.

Ab-Soul spat: “Imma slap Akademiks when I see him.”
Akademiks, who has been accused of rape and making sexually explicit remarks to children, went on his livestream and blasted the TDE star.
Akademiks goes off on Ab-Soul after he threatened to slap him on his new song

He said: “If you ever raise a hand on me, it’ll be your last day on earth. You’ll join Nipsey, King Von, and Pac — all of y’all gonna be having a good time. I hate you pussy ass rappers.”
He also wrote on X: “Sounds amazing. Just remind that n-gga they won’t throw a funeral for him like Nipsey. Keep rapping lil n-gga we ain’t see you slap nothing yet.”

Ab-Soul has yet to respond to Akademiks’ threats.
The development is an interesting twist from Joey Bada$$’s recent rap wars with the West Coast, which have mostly been back and forths with Rey Vaughn and Daylyt.
He has also repeatedly taken aim at Kendrick Lamar.

Nicki Minaj Forced To Deny Being Gay Over Photoshoot

Nicki Minaj has been forced to deny that she has come out of gay following a new viral photoshoot.
Minaj posed for the latest issue of Vogue Italia with one of the pictures showing the female rap superstar stepping out of a closet.
One fan commented on the image, saying: “This is more than just a picture, it’s showing Nicki in the closet because she’s dl.”

Minaj immediately moved to shut down the rumors, simply responding: “No.”
The Trinidadian born MC previously responded to speculation over her sexuality early in her career.
She said in 2010: “I think girls are sexy. But I’m not going to lie and say that I date girls.”
These days, Nicki is happily married to husband Kenneth Petty and recently penned an emotional tribute to him on their fifth wedding anniversary.

Nicki wrote on Instagram: “24 years after we first met. Love at first sight. I’m so proud of you. Thank you for catching me…every single time. Thank you for our little BFF. Dear Ken, Happy 5th Anniversary, Love, Barbie. 10.20.”
The couple originally knew each other as teenagers before reconnecting years later in 2018 after Nicki Minaj broke up with Meek Mill.

They would then marry in 2019 and a year later welcomed their first child together.
Despite his seemingly picture-perfect family life, Petty has faced much scrutiny over his criminal past and went viral earlier this year after his updated sex offender registry photo circulated social media.

The 46-year-old’s mugshot was taken from the Megan’s Law website, which required certain information about sex offenders to be publicly available.
The website lists Petty’s sex offender status along with personal details such as his date of birth, profile description and the reason for his conviction: “Attempted rape by force or fear.”
Petty was convicted in 1995 for the attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl, for which he spent four years in prison.

He was later given three years’ probation and one year of house detention in 2022 after failing to register as a sex offender in California, where he and Nicki moved in 2019 before getting married.
Jennifer Hough, Petty’s sexual assault victim, accused Nicki and her husband of harassing her because of the incident.

Smokey Robinson Fires Back With $500M Defamation And Elder Abuse Lawsuit Against His Accusers
Smokey Robinson is speaking out and taking legal action. The Motown legend, now 85, has filed a $500 million cross-complaint for defamation and elder abuse against the four former housekeepers who recently accused him of sexual harassment and rape.
The original lawsuit, filed earlier this month, stunned fans with its serious claims—but Robinson says the real story is much different.

In newly filed court documents, Smokey and his wife, Frances Robinson, allege that the women, along with their attorney John W. Harris, conspired to smear their names in a calculated attempt to extort money and destroy their reputations.
According to the 19-page filing, the Robinsons considered the women “extended family” and were extremely generous during their employment—gifting money for dental work, vacations, concert tickets, and even a car.

The filing insists that the women fabricated their claims and that the real abuse is what the Robinsons endured in the court of public opinion.
“The depths of plaintiffs’ avarice and greed knows no bounds,” the document reads. “They were concocting an extortionate plan to take everything from the Robinsons.”
The filing also accuses attorney John W. Harris of making inflammatory statements at a May 6 press conference—allegedly calling Robinson a “serial and sick rapist,” which Smokey’s legal team argues went far beyond protected courtroom speech.

Robinson’s legal team submitted text messages and photos to support their case.
One housekeeper allegedly invited Smokey to her son’s graduation dinner, and another sent him a warm birthday message in 2020 saying, “Love you.”
A redacted vacation photo shows Frances Robinson in Cabo San Lucas with one of the accusers, smiling and relaxed—seemingly at odds with the lawsuit’s timeline.
In a related legal move, the Robinsons are also asking the court to strike the original complaint and require the plaintiffs to refile using their real names.

Their argument? The allegations are so vague and off-base that they can’t even determine who is making which claim.
The motion adds that two of the plaintiffs are sisters—something the lawsuit failed to disclose—further complicating the case’s credibility, according to Robinson’s legal team.
Filed on May 6 in Los Angeles, the original lawsuit claims Smokey Robinson repeatedly sexually assaulted four women at his homes in the San Fernando Valley and Las Vegas starting in 2007.
The plaintiffs—identified only as Jane Does—are seeking $50 million in damages for sexual assault, battery, false imprisonment, and gender violence.

At a press conference, attorney John W. Harris stated:
“Obviously, no amount of money can compensate these women…but given the gravity of Mr. Robinson’s despicable and reprehensible misconduct…this amount is clearly warranted.”
Three of the women said they were too afraid to speak out previously, citing fear of job loss, immigration-related retaliation, and Robinson’s high-profile status.

As this legal battle plays out in the public eye, both sides are holding firm.
Smokey Robinson’s legal team has called the accusations “vile, false allegations,” while the plaintiffs stand by their claims and continue to seek justice.
With lawsuits, press conferences, and conflicting narratives swirling, one thing is clear—this case is far from over.

Shannon Sharpe Postpones Nightcap Tour Until 2026 Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

Shannon Sharpe has officially announced the postponement of the highly anticipated Nightcap Tour with co-host and fellow NFL legend Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson.
The tour, which was expected to bring the duo’s popular podcast Nightcap to live audiences across the country, has now been pushed back to 2026.

“We’ve decided to postpone the Nightcap tour,” Sharpe said during a recent episode of the podcast.
“We look forward to seeing you guys in the summer of 2026. It’s going to be even bigger, even better. But Ocho and I have come to the conclusion that this is the best thing as of right now, was to postpone the tour. We look forward to seeing each and every one of you in 2026.”

The announcement comes roughly a month after Sharpe was hit with a $50 million lawsuit from an OnlyFans model who alleges the Hall of Famer sexually assaulted and threatened her during their relationship.
Though the case remains ongoing, Sharpe has denied all allegations and maintains his innocence. His legal team has acknowledged that they offered “at least $10 million” in an effort to settle the suit, but emphasized that the offer was not an admission of guilt.

While no direct connection has been made between the lawsuit and the tour’s postponement, the timing has raised public speculation. Nonetheless, Sharpe and Johnson remain committed to reconnecting with fans in 2026, promising an even more dynamic live experience.

R&B Singer Jaheim Arrested And Charged With Cruelty To Animals
R&B singer Jaheim was arrested and released earlier this month for the alleged inhumane treatment of his pets. According to Fulton County jail records, the “Finding My Way Back” performer was taken into custody and released the next day on six counts of cruelty to animals.

The 47-year-old, born Jaheim Hoagland, allegedly failed to provide enough water, sanitary conditions, and ventilation for his dogs, according to local news station WSB-TV2 Atlanta. He is said to own four pit bull terriers, a hound mix-breed, and a French bulldog
This is not the singer’s first time being accused of mistreating animals. A few years back, Hoagland faced similar charges in New Jersey.
According to ESSENCE, he was taken into custody in September 2021 for the alleged starvation and neglect of 15 dogs, with one of the animals dying. At the time, he was charged with third-degree animal cruelty and failure to provide necessary care to an animal after over a dozen animals located in and on his property in poor health.

“Responding Hillsborough Patrol units upon canvassing the area located a total of six dogs in separate animal crates in the driveway of a Chamberlain Drive residence,” detailed Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson at the time. “One of the dogs located was initially unresponsive in a water-filled crate and subsequently had to be euthanized. Additional dogs were found inside of separate crates, which were partially filled with several inches of water and dog feces.”

The statement continued, “An additional nine dogs were located inside of the residence in varying stages of emaciation, without access to food and water.”
Musically, Jaheim’s last album is 2016’s Struggle Love.
“It’s a concept on the album Struggle Love,” he explained to You Know I Got Soul.
“It’s titled that because I think back and look at my life as a mirror of struggles. Through those struggles, it’s been a lot of ups and downs. The things that you love and like to do, you struggle with them. You see it in other people’s interpretations. We have people writing from all different angles.”

Michael Sumler Of Kool & The Gang Dead At 71

Michael “Chicago Mike” Sumler, longtime member of Kool & The Gang, died in a fatal car accident in Cobb County, Georgia over the weekend. He was 71. Fox5 Atlanta reported that Sumler was driving when his car “collided with another vehicle just before midnight Saturday on Veterans Memorial Highway near Buckner Road.” He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It was a devastating blow,” Adrian Meeks of Song Source Music Group told the outlet. “It’s like, no, no, not Mike. He always wanted to see other people succeed in the business that he’d been around most of all of his life. He was the bridge, you know, for inspiring artists and songwriters and producers and musicians to the legends […] He’ll be dearly missed.”

Meeks also described Sumler as “always jovial, always just kind, always wanting to make sure everybody else around him was good.” Greg Williams of Switch Entertainment added, “He was the hype guy out of the group, getting the audience going.”
Sumler was part of Kool & The Gang for over three decades, but his loved ones confirmed that his true impact went “far beyond the stage.” They shared how active he was in regard to mentoring the youth and helping rising acts maneuver the industry.

Williams considered Sumler to be “one of these people God put on a planet to teach people how to act because he was kind, he was thoughtful, he was intelligent, he was articulate and he was the life of the party.”
With many of Sumler’s family still in Chicago, his friends are waiting to speak with them before proceeding with memorial arrangements.

Cassie Gives Birth to Baby No. 3 Less Than 2 Weeks After Diddy Testimony

Cassie is officially a mom of three. ABC news reported on Wednesday, May 28, that that Cassie gave birth. The outlet added that her husband, Alex Fine, would be providing more details in the foreseeable future.
Less than two weeks after offering chilling testimony in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ racketeering and sex trafficking trial, Cassie (full name Casandra Ventura) welcomed her third baby with Fine. (The pair also share daughters Frankie and Sunny.)

Cassie revealed the baby’s sex in a March birthday post on Instagram dedicated to Alex. “You’ve taken care of me and my heart like no other, you’re hands down the best girl dad and I’m SO excited to see you now become a father to OUR SON!” she wrote at the time.
The pair married one year after Cassie’s relationship with Diddy ended. Fine, 32, was in New York City with Cassie as she testified in her ex-boyfriend’s trial for sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. Diddy pleaded not guilty to all charges and has denied all of the allegations against him.

During four days of emotional testimony, Cassie outlined what she claimed to be an abusive relationship, alleging moments of physical and sexual abuse, as well as of forced drug use.
Diddy’s September 2024 arrest came nearly one year after Cassie filed a lawsuit against him, accusing the embattled rapper of sexual and physical abuse throughout their relationship. Diddy denied her claims in a statement shared by his attorney. “Mr. Combs vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations,” Diddy’s lawyer Ben Brafman said in November 2023.

The pair settled out of court for what Cassie revealed in Court to be a $20 million payment.
Cassie and Alex welcomed their first daughter, Frankie, four months after they got married. She explained in a 2020 interview with Hatch that she wants Frankie to be able to see her balancing work and motherhood.
“I don’t want to lose myself in becoming a mom,” she explained. “Of course, I will do anything for her, but I also want to remain true to myself. I want her to grow up watching me do my thing. I want her to see me making music, building my business, being a mom, a wife, a force, and be inspired by it all.”

Their second daughter, Sunny, joined the family in 2021. “On Monday March 22nd, 2021 @ 10:22am our hearts got bigger,” Cassie wrote via Instagram. “Welcome to the world baby girl! We love you so much Sunny Cinco Fine!”

Kevin Liles Accuses Ex-Def Jam Rapper Lady Luck of $30 Million+ Extortion Plot
A high-profile dispute has erupted between former Def Jam exec Kevin Liles and rapper Lady Luck. Liles has accused the rapper of attempting to extort him to the tune of $30 million through threats. He also alleges Lady Luck threatened to publish a book containing “false and damaging allegations of sexual misconduct.”

According to statements released by Liles, Lady Luck—real name Shanell Jones—and her legal team contacted him to demand a $30 million payment. They said without a payment, Liles would face a very public lawsuit and the release of a tell-all book accusing Liles of sexual assault and inappropriate conduct. Those allegations include claims that Liles ‘groomed’ Lady Luck when she signed to Def Jam in 1999 as a teenager. Other allegations include that Liles exposed himself to her and tried to force her to perform oral sex in his car.

Liles has categorically denied all of the accusations levied against him, calling them “utterly false” and “pure fabrication. “None of this ever happened,” Liles said in a public statement. “Her threatened allegations are totally false. Rather than pay her and her legal team, I am publicly addressing what I view to be an extortion attempt.”
“It seems Mrs. Jones hopes to leverage the current news environment to pressure me into writing an exorbitant check in order to avoid the negative publicity that will likely result from her false claims,” Liles continues. “I intend to vigorously fight any complaint she may file and will take whatever legal action is necessary against her and the attorneys who have participated in this attempted shakedown.”

The statement was released on the website ‘LadyLucksOwnWords.com,’ which Liles appears to have created as an archive of communication with the rapper. It details how Liles gave her a chance with a record deal after hearing her on Hot 97 and contains numerous print and web interviews of Lady Luck discussing her relationship with the rap mogul.

Liles argues that his relationship with her was always professional and supportive. He also notes her struggles, stating that her career did not reach the heights both she and Liles hoped she would achieve. Lady Luck later requested to be released from her Def Jam contract. Liles also pointed to a criminal background and referenced recent hardships, stating “I will not be extorted, nor will I pay a dollar to those that threaten to ruin my reputation.”
Lady Luck and her legal representatives thus far have not responded to the detailed denials or the website. The dispute also comes at a time when Liles is seeking the dismissal of a sexual assault lawsuit stemming from his time at Def Jam in the early 2000s—though it’s unclear if that lawsuit is related.

Shaboozey Shares a Country Music History Lesson After His Viral AMAs Moment

The 2025 American Music Awards went off without a hitch on Monday, May 26, but that doesn't mean it wasn't without its awkward moments. The most awkward of the night went to Shaboozey and Megan Moroney. Now Shaboozey is responding to his viral AMA moment on Twitter, taking the opportunity to give fans a little lesson on the history of country music.

The awkward moment, ICYMI, happened when Shaboozey and Megan took to the stage to present the award for Best Country Duo or Group. “Country music has been an important part of AMA history,” Shaboozey said. “The very first year of this show, the award for Favorite Male Country Artist went to the great Charley Pride.” Megan then took over, adding, “That same year, Favorite Female Artist went to Lynn Anderson. And this award went to the Carter family, who basically invented country music.”

It was that last comment about the Carter family inventing country music that earned an eye roll into a side-eye and squint of confusion from Shaboozey who laughed after an awkward pause before continuing. His reaction quickly went viral and, IMO, will definitely earn the “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” singer a place in the country meme hall of fame.

While I can't be sure, it does sound like Megan is reading off a teleprompter when she said this line, which is a little surprising. Thanks in part to Beyoncé and her Cowboy Carter collaborators, including artists like Shaboozey, the contributions of Black country artists are being increasingly celebrated in the mainstream. And given all the discourse about who really originated country music and the genre's history of discounting Black performers, Shaboozey's reaction isn't exactly surprising.

The singer addressed his eye roll/side eye move on X following the awards, writing, “When you uncover the true history of country music, you find a story so powerful that it cannot be erased...”
He followed that up with a second, more diplomatic message: “The real history of country music is about people coming together despite their differences, and embracing and celebrating the things that make us alike.”

Megan has not publicly commented on the viral clip, but it sounds like there's no bad blood between the two. All's well that end's well with a little publicity, right?

Quinta Brunson To Receive Key To The City Of Philadelphia
Quinta Brunson, the Emmy Award-winning creator of the acclaimed sitcom Abbott Elementary, will receive Philadelphia’s Key to the City from Mayor Cherelle L. Parker.
According to the news releases, the honor is part of the dedication of a new mural at the Andrew Hamilton School.  Titled Blooming Futures, the mural was designed by local artist Athena Scott, who will give remarks along with Brunson at the ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, May 28. Scott was the elementary school that served as inspiration for Abbott Elementary.

Along with Brunson, Scott’s Blooming Futures was created with the help of “Hamilton school students and staff whom she met with for inspiration.” The new mural depicts the school as a garden, surrounded by dedicated educators cultivating the growing student population. Mural Arts, a world-renowned organization based in Philadelphia dedicated to education and uplifting creatives with their communities, made a guest appearance during the second season of Abbott Elementary.

“I am so grateful to be receiving the key to my hometown, Philly,” Brunson’s statement read.“This city shaped me, and now I get to give back with a mural that celebrates all it gave me. I am truly honored.”
“The City of Philadelphia is beyond grateful to have someone as inspiring and compassionate as Quinta Brunson. She doesn’t just represent the spirit of Philadelphia on television, she brings her success home and shares it with the city that loves her back,”  Mayor  Parker added.

“It goes without saying that education and representation matter. As our young people look for role models, may they find inspiration in dream chasers and change makers like Quinta Brunson,” she continued. “And let us never forget the impact of a great teacher, who shows up every day to uplift, encourage, and fight for the future of our youth.”

Stephanie Mills Wants Chris Brown To Do His Michael Jackson Tribute During His Tour

Stephanie Mills has entered the chat and asked Chris Brown for one thing before he starts his world stadium tour.
The legendary singer went on Instagram to co-sign, Lonnie Bee, asking the “Poppin’” singer about doing his tribute to the late Michael Jackson. Mills shared Bee’s Instagram story on her social media where he wrote, “Dear @chrisbrownofficial, Can you please do your @MichaelJackson tribute on your stadium tour? I think that’s a BIGGER stage then what the network thought they took away from you! Please let me know so I can purchase my ticket! Lonnie Bee.”

Mills added, “Please do this #ChrisBrown that tribute is fire.”
If you remember, Chris Brown revealed that the American Music Awards had pulled his Michael Jackson tribute from their program. He also claimed that he was given no reason for the change.

During that time, he posted footage of himself rehearsing for the awards with the caption that read, “It was supposed to be their AMA performance, but they canceled me for unknown reasons. In the video, Brown, along with his dancers, was practicing to some of Jackson’s hits; Wanna Be Startin’ Something, Thriller, Billie Jean, and Beat It.

The AMAs also released a statement about their decision, citing creative differences. “Live shows change all the time. It’s the nature of the business; unfortunately, this element of the AMAs didn’t come together as we couldn’t align on the performance, to no fault of Chris Brown.”
Chris Brown is set to kick off his world stadium tour, “The Breezy Bowl,” next month overseas before bringing it to the U.S.

Donald Trump Pardons NBA YoungBoy Ahead of Release from Federal Prison
Rapper NBA YoungBoy has received a full presidential pardon from Donald Trump, the White House confirmed. The Louisiana artist, whose real name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, had been scheduled for release in July 2025 following a plea agreement in a federal gun case in Utah.

The pardon clears his federal record and grants him early release from custody.
In a statement shared on social media, the rapper thanked Trump for the opportunity to move forward:
“I want to thank President Trump for granting me a pardon and giving me the opportunity to keep building—as a man, as a father, and as an artist.”
He also thanked Alice Marie Johnson, who has worked closely with Trump on criminal justice reform, and his attorney Brittany K. Barnett for helping make the pardon possible.

YoungBoy rose to prominence in the mid-2010s and has remained one of the most streamed rappers despite a series of legal issues, including firearms charges and periods of house arrest. Known for his consistent music output and strong fanbase, he has remained active even while facing restrictions.
The rapper is now preparing for a 27-city tour titled “Make America Smile Again (MASA),” set to begin on September 2 in Dallas.
YoungBoy’s pardon is one of several clemency actions announced recently, including the commutation of Larry Hoover’s federal sentence and pardons for Todd and Julie Chrisley.

Angel Reese Debuts Logo for Signature Shoe with Reebok

Rookie of the Year Material: Angel Reese Makes History With All-Time Single-Season WNBA Rebounding Record
On Wednesday, Angel Reese unveiled her official logo with the apparel company Reebok. The excitement and reaction from her fans have been super positive. In a 13-second video, the AR logo is displayed in all-silver letters against a light blue backdrop.

Right now, women in the sneaker industry are making major moves. Whether it’s the Nike Sabrina Ionescus or the new “A’One’s” from A’ja Wilson—which sold out online in just five minutes—female athletes are leading the charge.

Among the most influential in the current wave are Reese and her court rival Caitlin Clark, who is signed with Nike.
Reebok has invested heavily in Reese’s image and vision, seeing it as a smart long-term play for the brand. Back in October 2024, Reese inked a multi-year extension with Reebok, now operated under the leadership of NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson.

Though fans were disappointed to learn that Reese’s first signature shoe won’t launch until 2026, the brand sees value in a slow build. Reese is currently the most high-profile athlete signed with Reebok, and the company is carefully crafting her rollout.
