#MAGFAB: John Cena Gets Raw With People Magazine

The wrestler-actor opens up about his rise from bullied kid to WWE champion and in-demand actor in this week's cover story
John Cena pulls back the curtain in this week's PEOPLE cover story and reflects on life, love and leaving the WWE after 23 years
He shares how he's putting his health and 4-year marriage first as retirement nears

The wrestler-actor returns to TV in season 2 of the hit HBO Max show, Peacemaker, out Aug. 21
When it comes to putting on a show, John Cena has always been fearless. He wrestles in front of tens of thousands of people. He walks right into crowds at San Diego Comic-Con dressed as his superhero alter ego Peacemaker so he can connect with fans directly. And he even appeared nearly naked onstage at the 2024 Oscars just to get a good laugh.

But he admits one thing that scares him is being on-set for PEOPLE’s cover shoot. “Gosh, these photo shoots are tough. Because the voice inside me is like, ‘I’m not cool enough, and someone’s telling me how to look cool.’ So I’m scared of that. I’m scared of this interview, because I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
It’s a vulnerable side that fans don’t always see onscreen as he’s pummeling his opponents in the ring or fighting villains as Peacemaker.

“My job is to entertain folks,” says Cena, 48. But as he sits down with PEOPLE on July 27, he cautiously pulls back the curtain to reveal the real John Cena, one who’s reflective about aging, passionate about helping others and ready to see where life takes him as he nears retirement from pro wrestling.
“I try to just do the best that I can each day, because I’m not perfect,” he says. “But I try to just be as useful and grateful as I can.”
Cena has been a fixture on screens since he made his WWE debut in 2002 at 25 years old. Like many kids in the '80s, he fell in love with wrestling the moment he saw it on MTV. “I got swept up like most people my age did,” he says.

Cena had plenty of practice at home in West Newbury, Mass. with his four brothers, who would “kick the crap out of each other” and conduct “full-blown” sports entertainment wrestling shows. “We had entrances and music and characters,” he says. “It was theatrical.”
He started his fitness journey at 13, when he was tired of being beaten up by bullies and asked his dad for a weight set. “I got picked on for dressing a certain way or acting a certain way,” he says. But the experience “made me realize what was important in my life. I doubled down on being myself. And as a 12-, 13-, 14-year-old that doesn’t even have a fully formed mind yet, I just knew, ‘Hey, man, don’t waver. Just be you.’ That’s what helped me.”

After graduating from Springfield College, he worked his way up the ranks at Ultimate Pro Wrestling and made a name for himself in the WWE — first under the "The Doctor of Thuganomics," then quickly embraced the “Superman, Goody Two-shoes” archetype in the ring.
And he stayed that way for 22 years. According to Guinness World Records, he held the record for the longest run that any pro wrestler had gone without becoming a "bad guy," until March 1 when he beat up Cody Rhodes and joined rival Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in a shocking "heel turn."
A month later, he secured his status of G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time) with his 17th WWE World Championship, becoming the most decorated professional wrestler of all time.

These moments have all been a part of his "farewell" tour from the WWE after he made the shocking announcement last July that he is retiring from the ring in 2025.
“Age plays a factor,” he says. “I’m not as strong or as fast as I used to be. I made a promise when I started gaining some notoriety that when I’m a step slower, I will go, because there will be kids just as hungry as I was who have earned a shot to see if they can make it.”

After nearly five years of marriage with wife Shay Shariatzadeh, an engineer he met in Vancouver in 2019, his priorities are also shifting.
"My health and my dedication to my partner are the tip of my spear in life right now, so I think every time I go out [in the ring], I just want to make sure I’m able to give my all, but it’s time to step away.”
His year-long tour is an opportunity for fans to get “closure,” he says. “They’re the reason for my optimism, my perseverance, my passion. They don’t let you get away with phoning it in, because they’ll eat you alive.”

Or point out your bald spot — which prompted Cena to confront another aspect of aging.
“As I was trying to hide my hair loss, the audience was bringing it to light," he says.
"I saw their signs that said ‘The bald John Cena,’” he says. “They pushed me into going to see what my options were. I now have a routine: red-light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, shampoo, conditioner — and I also got a hair transplant last November. I hate the fact that if there wasn’t so much shame around it, I’d have gotten it done 10 years ago. I thought I was alone, but seven or eight out of 10 [men] suffer from thinning or baldness."

He loves his new look. “They don’t do anything except move your hair, one by one, from one area to another,” he says.
He pauses to remark how “fired up” he gets about the topic. “If somebody’s going to sweat me for that, I don’t think there’s any shame in that,” he says. “It completely changed the course of my life.”
One way he says it helped him is by giving him more range as an actor. "A different hairstyle can identify a part that can get me more work, do the thing I love to do," he says.

Cena first tested his big-screen charisma with his film debut, The Marine, in 2006 but admits he started acting to get more people to watch WWE.
He quickly learned his lesson. “I was run out of the movie business in 2009 for doing bad movies where I wasn’t present,” he says. “I thought that just because I wore a golden leather belt on Monday and Friday, they’d come see whatever I’m doing. It’s not true.”
He rebounded with comedic roles in 2015 with Trainwreck, Sisters and Daddy’s Home, then action turns in the Transformers and Fast & Furious franchises. He expanded his role as Peacemaker, an egotistical vigilante in 2021’s Suicide Squad, into an acclaimed HBO Max series a year later.

“This has changed my life,” he says of the role of Peacemaker, which he’s reprising in season 2, out Aug. 21. “It’s a great show that’s more than just action. It’s a love story. It’s a workplace comedy. We’re the long shots, the lovable losers.”
He and costars Danielle Brooks and Jennifer Holland “support each other and allow each other to take big swings. It’s fun.”
When he's not on screen, Cena giving back (he broke the Make-a-Wish Foundation’s record for most wishes granted to kids fighting critical illnesses with 650 in 2022) or recharging. “The days I need rest, I rest,” he says, which may include “16 hours of sleep, and then I’m going to eat junk food, sit on the couch with the arm around the one I love, we’re going to watch whatever we want or nothing at all.”

He approaches balancing everything in his busy life by giving attention to what’s most needed in the moment: “If I’m deficient on physical strength and connection with ones I love, I will push those minutes wherever I can, whether it’s getting my ass in the gym or being the best husband I can.”
That’s “not easy,” he notes. He and his wife, whom he met when he went to a restaurant to watch the Super Bowl and married a year later in 2020, look at the calendar “all the time. You got to do your homework.”

As he gets ready to wind down his run in the WWE, he is stepping into the next phase of his life with optimism. “I hope to remain curious and healthy — and that’s physically, spiritually, mentally,” he says. “As long as I have love, health and curiosity for what life has to offer, I think it’ll work out.

Peacemaker season 2 airs August 21 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO Max.

#RHOA: Porsha Williams’ $7 Million Mansion Hit With Lien Over Ex-Husband’s 6-Figure Debt
Porsha Williams’ ex-husband, Simon Guobadia, has been accused of failing to pay up on a six-figure debt owed to his divorce lawyer, Us Weekly can exclusively report.
On June 10, Guobadia’s divorce lawyer, Onyema Farrey, filed an attorney’s lien against his 5-bedroom, 8-bathroom, 15,284 square foot Georgia home, worth an estimated $7.3 million. Williams currently lives in the home after being awarded possession in the divorce.
The lien said Guobadia owed $205,884.25 for services provided on his divorce from Williams.

The RHOA star filed for divorce in February 2024 after 15 months of marriage. She asked the court to enforce the terms of the prenuptial agreement.
Guobadia, 61, demanded that the prenup not be enforced due to Williams, 44, making alleged misrepresentations during the negotiations. Specifically, he said she intended to be a stay-at-home mom and had no plans to return to reality television.

“[Williams] failed to disclose that she would return to her employment on The Real Housewives of Atlanta as a cast member,” Guobadia argued. “Instead of disclosing this material fact, the Wife made it very clear to [Guobadia] (and the public) that she was leaving the television show and not returning.”
A couple of weeks after filing for divorce, Williams asked for temporary exclusive use of the home she shared with Guobadia. The court granted her request and Williams has been there ever since.

As previously reported, the divorce was finalized in court on June 11. Guobadia had been deported to Nigeria, due to immigration issues, days before the hearing.
The judge sided with Williams and ordered the prenup to be enforced. “The Court finds that the Prenuptial Agreement between the parties contains all essential elements of an enforceable contract,” the order read.
Further, the order read, “the Court finds that [Williams] has been a reality TV celebrity for years, which was well known to Husband at the time of negotiating the Prenuptial Agreement, and [Guobadia] nevertheless married Wife with this knowledge.”
The judge added, “The Court does not find merit in [Guobadia’s] argument that [Williams’] desire to return to reality television or employment in the future constitutes a non-disclosure of material fact and misrepresentation, as these terms are not mentioned whatsoever in the parties’ Prenuptial Agreement.”

At the hearing, Guobadia claimed his company Simcol’s value went from $296 million to nothing after he was detained by ICE. “The Court finds that [Guobadia’s] testimony is inconsistent and lacks credibility, especially given [Guobadia’s] testimony that prior to the ICE detention, he resided outside of the U.S. for more than one-half of the year and was able to successfully run and operate the company internationally,” the judge wrote.

The judge said Guobadia’s testimony “that almost $297 million dollars in business value vanished entirely over the course of a few months, without recourse or recovery, strains credibility.”
Per the prenuptial agreement, Guobadia will pay Williams $40,000 a month in spousal support for 14 months. In addition, Williams was awarded the home but will have to pay her ex 50 percent of the equity.
Williams will have 36 months to refinance the mortgage to remove Guobadia’s name or sell the home.

The deal also awarded Williams a 2021 Rolls Royce and all other cars in her name. Guobadia will also have to pay Williams' legal bill totaling $224,000.

#MusicNews: SHE'S BACK! Taylor Swift announces new album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’

Taylor Swift announced Tuesday she’s dropping a new album: “The Life of a Showgirl.” The surprise announcement of the Grammy-winner’s 12th original studio album came in dramatic fashion, as a countdown clock on her website ticked down to 12:12 a.m. Eastern.

In a video posted on Instagram, giving a sneak peek of Swift’s upcoming appearance on Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast, co-hosted with his brother Jason Kelce, Swift pulled out a mint green briefcase with her initials “TS” written in orange, saying: “This is my brand new album.”
She did not say when the album would be released or any other information about it. Fans will have to wait a little longer to see and hear more when her much-awaited podcast appearance on “New Heights” releases Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET.

No stranger to including “Easter eggs” or hidden clues in the lead up to her releases, Swift set off a frenzy of speculation Monday after a carousel of 12 photos was posted on her Instagram. “Thinking about when she said ‘See you next era…,’” the caption said.
The surprise announcement coincided with a reveal Monday night that Swift would join Travis Kelce, her boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs football player, and his brother for an episode of “New Heights” after teasing that a “VERY special” guest was joining Wednesday’s episode.

This is Swift’s first new album since concluding her record-breaking Eras Tour in December. It’s available for pre-order on Swift’s official website in physical vinyl, cassette and CD format.
The most recent studio album Swift released was “The Tortured Poets Department,” a 31-song double album that she announced in 2024 amid the Eras Tour and revamped her set list midway through to add songs from.

“The Life of a Showgirl” will be her first release since becoming the proud owner of her entire catalog of music, roughly six years after she protested the sale of her master recordings by her former record label.
She purchased her music “outright with no strings attached, no partnership, full autonomy,” from Shamrock Capital, a private equity company that had acquired her master recordings, she announced in May.

“To say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it,” Swift wrote, adding that she was able to “buy back” her music from Shamrock following the success of the Eras Tour.
The sale of the master recordings of Swift’s first six albums to producer Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings in 2019 was contentious, with Swift alleging she was blindsided and not given the opportunity to buy her catalog at the time. Braun maintained her team was aware of a pending deal in advance.

It prompted the singer to take back ownership of her music in her own way by pledging to re-record the albums. She went on to release what she called “Taylor’s Version” albums for “Red,” “Speak Now,” “Fearless” and “1989.” With each “Taylor’s Version” album, she’s included a number of previously unreleased songs she coined “from the vault.”

#HipHopNews: Cardi B Announces Next ‘AM I THE DRAMA?’ Single “Imaginary Players” With Release Date
“Imaginary Players” is the second pre-release offering from Cardi B’s forthcoming album AM I THE DRAMA?, dropping on Sept. 19.
It will be Cardi B’s first full-length project since 2018’s Invasion of Privacy.
The single’s title may reference JAY-Z’s “Imaginary Players,” sparking fan theories about a possible sample.
Cardi B’s AM I THE DRAMA? rollout is the gift that keeps giving. On Monday (Aug. 11), the rapper announced the next pre-release single from her sophomore album will be “Imaginary Players.”

Ahead of the track's Friday (Aug. 15) release, the Grammy Award-winning artist unveiled its cover art, which sees her posing in front of a white Rolls-Royce in a matching-colored fur coat. “Just a lil’ taste of the drama,” she teased in the caption.
As many fans have already pointed out, the song’s title is identical to one of JAY-Z’s In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 cuts. Whether Cardi B sampled the record or just borrowed its name is still a mystery, but the answer is only days away. Scroll down to see the artwork.

AM I THE DRAMA? has been seven years in the making. Cardi B dropped the first trailer back in June. “I’m not back, I’m beyond. I’m not your villain, I’m your karma. The time is here. The time is now,” she said in the clip. That very next day, she revealed the album’s title and cover. So far, she’s teased the full-length release with “Outside” and another song previewed at WWE SummerSlam.

“I’m turnt up at the party / I’m geeking out my body / She shake and clap it for me / These b**ches love some Cardi,” she rapped in the snippet.
She’s also packing the 23-track project with earlier hits like “WAP” and “Up.” In June, the rapper explained why: “My fans have been asking me to put them on an album, and people search for them on [Invasion of Privacy] all the time.” Noting that they're two of her “biggest songs,” she added, “They deserve a home.”

AM I THE DRAMA? is expected to make its way to streaming services on Sept. 19. While we may be waiting a while to see the full feature list, SZA might have already volunteered herself. The singer popped up in Cardi B’s Instagram comments to say, “Lemme send this verse, chile.”

#RIP: Dr. Danielle Spencer, Who played Dee on What’s Happening!, Has Died at at 60

Danielle Spencer, the actress who played Raj’s sarcastic little sister Deadra “Dee” Thomas on What’s Happening!!, died Monday. She was 60 years old. The news was posted by her former What’s Happening!! co-star Haywood Nelson on Instagram Tuesday.

“Dr. Dee, our brilliant, loving, positive, pragmatic warrior, without fail, has finally found her release from the clutches of this world and a body,” he wrote. “We celebrate Danielle Spencer and her contributions as we regret to inform her departure and transition from a long battle with cancer.

“We have lost a daughter, sister, family member, What’s Happening cast member, veterinarian animal rights proponent and healer, and cancer heroine. Our Shero. Danielle is loved. She will be missed in this form and forever embraced.”
Spencer played Dee, the precocious and meddling younger sister on What’s Happening!!, for three seasons beginning in 1976. Loosely based on the 1975 film Cooley High, the series started out as a summer replacement on ABC. After it ended, a spinoff of the show titled What’s Happening Now!! was ordered, running from 1985 to 1988. Spencer reprised her role, recurring as a college-aged Dee for 16 episodes.

In 1996, she pivoted from acting and became a veterinarian, and though she considered herself to be semi-retired from the business, she still occasionally acted. Her other TV credits include The Brady Bunch Hour and Days of Our Lives. She also played a vet in the 1997 James L. Brooks movie As Good As It Gets.

Diddy Accusers Speak Up After Hearing Of His Plans To Counsel Abusers: “Utterly Preposterous”

Diddy is working hard to get out of spending any more time in jail than necessary, and he is seemingly willing to try anything, even if it is ill-advised. The 55-year-old entrepreneur hopes to counsel abusers, which has prompted his accusers to speak out against such an act.
Alexandra Shapiro, one of the controversial mogul’s trial lawyers, spoke to Business Insider about his plans of becoming an anti-domestic violence counselor. “That’s something that he actively wants to pursue in the future,” she said. “The idea is that he would work with programs and be able to go in and talk to people, talk to youth, talk to others about the issue in a proactive way and be an advocate for this. And sometimes, people like him can be the best spokesperson to try to help.”

Again, this doesn’t appear to be entirely selfless or noble, as these plans are part of his attempt to get time served for his two convictions of transportation to engage in prostitution. His alleged victims and their teams held nothing back in sharing their thoughts on his plans. “This is utterly preposterous,” Douglas Wigdor, Cassie’s attorney, told Rolling Stone.

“How are you going to counsel someone else when you haven’t done the work on yourself?” another source, who was allegedly physically assaulted by the controversial mogul in 2010, said. “This is manipulation at its best.”
His need for rehabilitation seemed to be a common theme, as another one of Puff’s alleged victims said “It’s [making] a mockery of the system. It’s a mockery of everyone he’s harmed. He needs intensive therapy.”

The “I Need A Girl” artist was acquitted of his racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges last month. It closed an almost two-year saga that included him being sued, his homes being raided by Homeland Security, footage of him abusing Cassie coming out, and him spending 8 months in jail.

Spike Lee’s ‘Highest 2 Lowest’ Star-Studded Premiere: Denzel Washington, A$AP Rocky, Ice Spice, And More
Attendees included Chance The Rapper, Brent Faiyaz, Jordyn Woods, Karl-Anthony Towns, and plenty more.
Spike Lee‘s newest joint Highest 2 Lowest is slated to make its debut this Friday (Aug. 15), and the highly anticipated film was celebrated in style right in the legendary director’s home city. A plethora of stars gathered on Monday night (Aug. 11) at New York City’s Brooklyn Academy of Music for the red carpet premiere, and leading actors Denzel Washington and A$AP Rocky were front and center for the evening’s festivities.

Attendees who came out to support the film included Chance The Rapper, Jordyn Woods, Karl-Anthony Towns, Dapper Dan, Rick Fox, Brent Faiyaz, and plenty more. Also ready for the spotlight were members of the cast, which boasted names like Ice Spice, Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, Dean Winters, John Douglas Thompson, LaChanze, Aubrey Joseph, Michael Potts, Wendell Pierce, and Elijah Wright.
Highest 2 Lowest is an English-language reinterpretation of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 Japanese kidnapping drama High and Low, which is loosely based on the 1959 novel King’s Ransom by Ed McBain (Evan Hunter).
Spike Lee also previously commended Rocky’s ability to keep up with veteran actor Denzel. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last week, he urged listeners “don’t sleep on A$AP.”

“In this film, Denzel and A$AP go toe to toe,” he added. “I’ve done five films with Denzel, and when he’s in a scene with somebody, they just get overwhelmed. He’s one of the world’s greatest living actors. But A$AP wasn’t having that. Toe to toe. I mean, they were going at it.”

Chris Brown Surprises Fan With $10,000 And New Car At Breezy Bowl XX
Chris Brown and his daughter, Royalty, pulled off the sweetest surprise for a single mother and Breezy super-fan during a recent tour stop.
On Sunday (Aug. 10), Brown — in partnership with Zachery Dereniowski a.k.a influencer MD Motivator and the social impact platform, Onefluent— shared footage of 13-year-old Gabby and her mother.
Dereniowski approached a crowd and asked, “Who’s the biggest Chris Brown fan?”
Boldly, Gabby declared, “I am,” and squealed in delight when she spotted 11-year-old Royalty. They took a photo together as Dereniowski asked Gabby what she wanted to do in the future. “I want to become a sports medicine doctor and find genuine love because this generation is crazy,” she quipped.

He asked her mother if she wanted to buy two “mystery tickets,” and in exchange for $5, she was given a Breezy Bowl that contained $10,000 in cash.
The surprises didn’t end there. The two enjoyed the concert as Gabby revealed that Chris Brown “influenced [her] whole dance career.” She continued, “I grew up dancing to you. You’re such an inspiration to me. I love you so much!”

After the show, they got the chance to meet the crooner. Dereniowski and Brown led the two down a path, blindfolded, as they opened up about their lives. Brown asked the single mom, “What’s your dream?” Her reply? “Just to be happy,” she exclaimed.
Gabby admitted that her parents “weren’t that good together,” but she was praised as a “strong, single mom” who taught her to “not let nobody walk over me and to never be a doormat for anybody.” The young teen shared, “She deserved everything that comes to her.” Brown also advised Gabby to continue following her dreams.

The blissful night came ahead of both Gabby and her mother’s respective birthdays— with her mom’s being next week and Gabby’s next month.

AOL To End Dial-Up Internet On Sept. 30 After 30 Years

It’s so hard to say goodbye…AOL is ending its dial-up internet service after 30 years, officially pulling the plug on September 30, 2025. For decades, the screeching, beeping modem sound and the iconic “You’ve got mail” greeting were the soundtrack to getting online.

In the early 2000s, AOL was synonymous with the internet. From shiny free trial CDs and bustling chat rooms to AIM messages and slow-loading web pages, it defined the online experience for millions. At its height, more than 20 million subscribers used AOL’s dial-up to connect.

But as broadband, Wi-Fi, and fiber became the norm, dial-up faded into obscurity. AOL now says subscribers will still have access to their email accounts and other features, but the dial-up connection and the AOL Dialer will be shut down for good.
The decision marks the end of one of the internet’s most recognizable eras. Whether seen as a loss or simply overdue, the familiar sound of a modem connecting is about to be gone forever.

DDG Left ‘Shaken’ After Being Swatted During ‘Peaceful Paintball’ Event, Police Now Investigating
DDG is the latest celeb to be swatted over false claims. On Sunday (Aug. 10), the 27-year-old was at a paintball event not too far from the Los Angeles area when police arrived, quickly drew their weapons, and placed everyone in handcuffs. Apparently, authorities were called to the scene by an unidentified person who claimed someone at the event had a firearm and was waving it around, threatening to harm others. The entire ordeal was captured on DDG’s livestream.

After checking things out, police determined the call was fake and another swatting incident. Speaking on the scary day with TMZ, DDG’s lawyer said: “The anonymous caller fabricated a claim that DDG was armed and threatening people, which led to an unnecessary and heavily armed police response to a peaceful paintball live stream event. This reckless and malicious act disrupted the tournament, caused unnecessary panic among attendees, and put everyone present — including law enforcement — in harm’s way.”

And added: “DDG, who was there simply to enjoy and participate in the event, was deeply shaken by the incident. Having officers respond under the false belief that you are armed is an incredibly distressing and traumatizing experience. We are grateful that no one was physically harmed, but the emotional toll and the damage to the event’s atmosphere were significant.”

Police are now investigating to locate the person who made the false claims.

Eddie Murphy Recalls How His ‘Clairvoyant’ Childhood Girlfriend Predicted He’d Be Famous

Looks like it was always in the stars that Eddie Murphy would become a household name.
During a recent interview with Complex’s Speedy Morman, Eddie shared that someone he once dated as a child told him he’d be famous in the future. He said:

“I had a girlfriend named Sherry who was a clairvoyant, and she could really like, read stuff. She could like put her hands on stuff and see stuff with her hands. She could put her hand in the newspaper and tell you the stuff in the paper. And you could put money in her hands, she could tell you what the bill was. She could put her hand in the photo album and tell you who was on the picture.”

The multi-talented celeb shared that when he was around 13, Sherry used her special abilities on him and told him he was going to be famous. However, the news was no shock to a young Eddie, who said he responded: “I knew it!”
Eddie also revealed that he took care of Sherry in her 20s because she was “bedridden” due to a “neurological problem.” Sadly, she passed in the late ’90s, while Eddie was filming The Nutty Professor.

Kodak Black Dragged Into $10.6M Lawsuit Over Shooting At Justin Bieber Party
Kodak Black is now the only defendant left in a $10.6 million civil lawsuit filed by two men injured during a 2022 shooting outside a Los Angeles afterparty hosted by Justin Bieber, with the plaintiffs claiming the rapper instigated the violence that left them and Black wounded.
During a hearing Wednesday in Los Angeles, attorneys for Adam Rahman and Mark Schaefer asked the court to declare Black in default, alleging he never responded to the suit.

“Kodak has never been served with any lawsuit from California,” Black’s attorney Bradford Cohen told Rolling Stone. “I find it unusual that they’re attempting to sue the very person who was the most injured out of the individuals who got shot.”
The civil trial was initially scheduled to begin this month, but the judge has vacated the date.
The plaintiffs argue Kodak Black was the catalyst for the altercation that escalated into gunfire outside The Nice Guy, a West Hollywood restaurant, following a Bieber-hosted Super Bowl weekend event in February 2022.

The lawsuit initially named Bieber and the venue’s owners as co-defendants, but both were later removed.
In June 2024, a judge ruled the shooting was not “foreseeable” by the restaurant, leading to the dismissal of the corporate defendants. Bieber was voluntarily dropped from the case shortly after.
Rahman and Schaefer first sought a $62 million default judgment against Black in November 2023, but the court denied the request due to insufficient evidence of damages.

A revised claim for $10.6 million was also rejected last month after the judge said the plaintiffs had not provided adequate proof of their medical expenses.
The court has not yet ruled on the latest default request.

'The Chi' Star Lynn Whitfield Says Her Character's Death Was a Surprise to Her

The Chi star Lynn Whitfield is opening up about her dramatic exit from the show!
The season 7 finale of The Chi was full of emotional twists and turns. One of the biggest shocks was the death of Alicia Daniels Lafayette, played by Lynn. Alicia’s death was the final twist in a long line of twists and turns in Alicia’s journey to learn the truth of what happened to her son.

The 72-year-old actress that played the role of Alicia on The Chi recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about her character’s demise on the show and how it came as a surprise to her, just like to the viewers!

According to Lynn‘s interview with THR, she didn’t know that Alicia’s death was coming until she got a script for an episode “mid-season, maybe the fifth episode or so.”
“It was really an interesting journey for me,” Lynn said. “Because so often I am playing that strong character that finds a way [and] that learns a lesson. And I honestly felt there was a possibility for [Alicia] to learn something, particularly with her grandson coming.”

According to Lynn, Alicia dying wasn’t the only surprise.
“We didn’t know until the last episode who was going to do it. I would like to have been in the writers room [as] they were deciding,” she told the publication.

Kelly Clarkson Fights Back Tears Onstage in Viral Video Taken 12 Days Before Death of Ex-Husband Brandon Blackstock
Kelly Clarkson got visibly emotional during her July 26 Las Vegas show in a newly resurfaced video
The moment came when she was discussing a telling lyric change in her hit song "Piece by Piece"

Clarkson broke down in tears while talking about the song just 12 days before the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock
Kelly Clarkson got raw and real with her fans 12 days before the death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock
In a newly resurfaced video recorded by TikTok user @modestishottest4u from Clarkson’s July 26 show at her Las Vegas Studio Session residency, the pop star, 43, broke down in tears multiple times while introducing the newly reworked version of her song “Piece by Piece.”

“Compartmentalization!” Clarkson urged herself while wiping away tears and trying to keep from crying.
She then went on to share that after a 2023 lyric change to “Piece by Piece” — in the wake of her 2020 split from Blackstock — she has since changed the song once again to reflect more of where she is today
“I’ve never rewritten a song more and I probably never will,” she began. “I wrote this song with a lot of hope and projection for happiness and better than what was happening. And then, well, life set in and I had to change the lyrics. Everybody was like, ‘Wait, why aren’t you singing this song?’ And I was like, ‘Have you heard the lyrics?’ That’s fun. Embarrassing.”

The song originally read as a message to Clarkson’s estranged father about how Blackstock was a better father and partner to her and was released in 2015, two years after the former couple tied the knot.
“I ended up changing the lyrics. We did it one time, I did a residency here, and then I was like, ‘You know what, that sounded a little angry,’ “ she shared. “So I just wanted to explain how it feels now. I’m 43. I’ve done some therapy, and I changed the lyrics now and I think it’s perfect. I promise. I’m not gonna change it again.”

Further explaining why she decided to tweak the lyrics, Clarkson added, “It just represents, kind of, I don’t know I feel like we grow up, right? And this is the more grown up version of it.”
However, as she tried to go on, Clarkson once again got emotional, saying, “I’m really trying to pull it together,” before introducing the song by declaring, “Screw it, let’s just sing it. This is ‘Piece by Piece.’ “
In her 2023 lyric change, Clarkson sang, “I just walk away, when they ask for money. I take care of me ‘cause I love me. Piece by piece I restored my faith that a heart can still beat even when it breaks,” a seeming reference to Blackstock’s financial requests during their divorce.

And in the updated version Clarkson sang, “I’m learning everyday how to love me. I let go of the shame that you taught me. Piece by piece I restored the faith that a heart can still beat even if it breaks.”
Blackstock died of cancer on Aug. 7 at the age of 48. He and Clarkson shared daughter River, 11, and son Remington, 9. He was also dad to daughter Savannah and son Seth from a previous relationship.
One day before the music manager’s death, Clarkson postponed the remainder of her Las Vegas shows, sharing in a statement, "While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them."

A source told PEOPLE that Clarkson has "been devastated" for her children amid her ex-husband's private illness.
“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” the source said. “Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids."

Aces star A'ja Wilson makes WNBA history with 32-point, 20-rebound outing in win over Sun

Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson went off in historic fashion on Sunday night.
Wilson became the first player in WNBA history to score 30 points and pull down 20 rebounds in a single game while leading the Aces to a 94-86 win over the Connecticut Sun. Wilson finished with 32 points and matched her career high with 20 rebounds while shooting 13-of-25 from the field in the win at Michelob Ultra Arena.

The outing came just two days after Wilson dropped 29 points on her 29th birthday in a 90-86 win over the Seattle Storm.
The Aces came out slow on Sunday night, and even fell into a double-digit hole early in the second quarter. But they rallied just before halftime, and held the Sun scoreless for the final half of the period, to tie things up before halftime.

Las Vegas then jumped out in front just minutes into the third quarter, after Chelsea Gray hit a pair of free throws, and the Aces never looked back. They used an 8-0 burst near the end of the quarter to push their lead and then led the entire rest of the way to secure the eight-point win.

Marina Mabrey led the Sun with 22 points while shooting 8-of-16 from the field. Saniya Rivers added 17 points off the bench, and Leila Lacan finished with 13 points. They were the only three Connecticut players to hit double figures. The loss dropped the Sun to 5-25 — the worst record in the league.
Jackie Young added 21 points and six assists in the win for the Aces to go with Wilson’s 32-point night. Jewell Lloyd added 12 points off the bench, too, and the team shot just shy of 50% from the field as a group while out-rebounding the Sun by 17. The win, their sixth in their last seven games, pushed them to 18-14.

Wilson is averaging 21.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game this season. The three-time league MVP picked up her seventh All-Star nod this season, too. While the Aces are still nine games back from the Minnesota Lynx in the standings, Wilson is in the midst of another dominant run while averaging just shy of 30 points per game over her last three games. If she can keep the pace up over the last stretch, there’s no reason the Aces can’t at least close the gap in the standings before the playoffs start.

Busta Rhymes Dismisses Former Assistant's Allegations as 'Disgruntled' Claims
Busta Rhymes is firing back at his former assistant's claims, calling them the work of a "disgruntled" ex-employee.
The rapper, whose real name is Trevor Smith Jr., is facing a federal lawsuit filed by Dashiel Gables, who accuses him of assault, battery, and workplace abuse.
The lawsuit, filed on Aug. 4, alleges that Rhymes repeatedly screamed at employees, made unreasonable demands, and engaged in physical abuse, including spitting in faces, smacking heads, and grabbing clothes.

Gables claims the situation escalated in January 2025, when Rhymes allegedly punched him twice in the face after he answered a phone call from his daughter.
He says the assault left him with a swollen eye, sent him to the hospital, and ultimately cost him his job.
According to RollingStone, Gables also alleges that reporting the incident to police led to him being "blacklisted" from the music industry.
In addition to the assault claims, the lawsuit cites wage violations, unpaid overtime, and missing wage statements, with Gables seeking compensatory and liquidated damages.

Rhymes was arrested in Brooklyn earlier this year on related assault charges, but the Brooklyn District Attorney's office confirms the case was later sealed. The rapper insists the claims are false.
"I completely and categorically deny these allegations," Rhymes said in a statement. "For a very brief period, Dashiel assisted me, but it did not work out.

Apparently, Dashiel has decided to respond to being let go by manufacturing claims against me in an attempt to attack and damage my reputation.
I am preparing a countersuit, which I am confident will expose this for what it is — an attempted shake-down."

Gables' attorney, Avrohom Gefen, pushed back, saying the case is about "justice for the little guy" and describing Rhymes as a "powerful and influential figure" who bullied his client, People said.
Gefen claims Gables stayed in the job out of financial need and fear, but after speaking up, he lost his career prospects.
Gables has also alleged other incidents of humiliation, including being forced to unclog a toilet by hand after a previous assistant quit under similar conditions. He says Rhymes often insulted him, called him slurs, and even threatened "street justice."

The former assistant is requesting a jury trial and damages for lost wages, emotional distress, and labor law violations.
Rhymes maintains that the accusations are fabricated and vows to clear his name in court.

Tiffany Haddish Gives Away Free Groceries in Altadena to Support Families in Need

Tiffany Haddish turned a Friday afternoon in Altadena into an outpouring of generosity, covering grocery bills for hundreds of people at Super King Market.
According to KTLA, the “Girl’s Trip” actress and comedian organized the giveaway on Aug. 8 for victims of the Eaton Fire as well as anyone else in need, running the event from noon to 4 p.m.

“I called every rich friend to help me,” Haddish told KTLA 5’s Samantha Cortese. Among those answering her call was businessman Stephen Cloobeck, founder and former CEO of Diamond Resorts, who is currently running for California governor.
“It’s an affordability crisis, and we’ve got to let everyone know it’s real. It’s real. California is not affordable, livable, or workable, and we’re showing everyone this is real,” Cloobeck said. “And we got to do it together. We’ve got to fix what’s broken here.”

Haddish, reflecting on her past struggles, said she understands the challenges families face. “I know how hard it is to feed a family, the stress of it, and the cost for food today is ridiculous. It makes me so mad,” she said, adding, “I’m a human being, and I need to eat too, and I like to buy my own food, and I’ll pay for everybody in line behind me.”
Other notable contributors included Leonardo DiCaprio, Nia Long, and D.L. Hughley. Haddish joked that “Kevin Hart said he gonna send some money, but he ain’t saying nothing yet.”

Word spread quickly after Haddish shared the announcement with her more than seven million Instagram followers. By 11 a.m., a security guard estimated that about 500 people were already in line. Each shopper received a yellow ticket redeemable for $150 in groceries. Guidelines limited purchases to five meat items and prohibited alcohol, beer, tobacco, and bulk buys for resale.
“This is filling my heart up so much. Happy tears, happy tears, gratitude,” Haddish said. “Tears like I’m just so thankful to God to be able to put me in a position to work my butt off and to be able to share and then make good friends like Steven.”

Houston Woman Sues Snoop Dogg Over Death Row Records
A Houston woman has launched a $100 million lawsuit against rapper Snoop Dogg and Death Row Records, claiming they defrauded her of over $100 million.
Lydia Harris is no stranger to legal battles with the label. She is the ex-wife of Michael “Harry-O” Harris, one of Death Row’s co-founders, and previously won a $107 million judgment against Death Row Records and its former owner, Marion “Suge” Knight, in 2005. That ruling, which included $60 million in punitive damages, remains unpaid. Because of this, Harris demands that Snoop Dogg stop using the Death Row name and its related assets, per The Houston Chronicle.

In 2022, Snoop Dogg purchased Death Row Records through a bankruptcy sale. Harris claims that since then, he has exploited the label’s brand by selling merchandise and other products, actions she says violate the 2005 court decision. She maintains that any use of the Death Row name requires her explicit written permission until the judgment is fully paid.

The lawsuit extends beyond Snoop Dogg and Death Row Records. Harris has also accused Time Warner, Universal Music Group, and Interscope Records of engaging in “fraud on the court, civil conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and abuse of legal process” to avoid paying the original judgment. Furthermore, she alleges violations of civil RICO laws, including bankruptcy and wire fraud, suggesting the bankruptcy sale was a strategy designed to dodge the 2005 ruling.

To prevent further unauthorized use of the Death Row brand, Harris has requested the court to establish a constructive trust, accusing multiple parties of organized fraud linked to the label’s management.
In April, a judge denied Snoop Dogg’s motion to dismiss the case. Snoop’s legal team had argued that Harris’s claim was void because she accepted a $1 million “good faith” payment from Knight, which they said ended her right to pursue more money. They accused her of being “a bad faith litigant” who “continued a pattern of harassment in California for years and has now shifted her harassment to a new forum in Texas.”

Harris is pursuing punitive damages and seeks an immediate injunction to stop the use of Death Row’s intellectual property, emphasizing her determination to enforce the 2005 court ruling.

#NEWSNEAKS Bape x Adidas “World Cup” Collection Set for February 2026 Release

Adidas and Bape are teaming up again, this time with a collection inspired by the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
An internal Adidas document obtained by Complex reveals the Bape x Adidas “World Cup” line is slated for a February 2026 release. The collaboration will feature three sneaker styles: the Campus, Samba, and Adistar Hrmy, each reimagined with signature details from both brands.

The Campus comes in a luxe croc skin–style upper, with Adidas’ Three Stripes on one side and Bape’s Sta logo on the other, finished with a sail midsole. The Samba mixes a sail and grey base with pine green hits on the dual logos and heel tab. The Adistar Hrmy stands out with Bape’s ABC camo on the upper and the brand’s iconic shark teeth graphic along the midsole. These pairs are early samples, meaning final retail versions may look different.

Footwear isn’t the only highlight. The drop will also include jerseys, a Shark hoodie, a t-shirt, pants, a hat, and various accessories, all reflecting the streetwear-meets-sportswear energy of both labels.

While the brands haven’t made an official announcement yet, the leaked images and details suggest this will be one of next year’s most anticipated collabs. With the World Cup hype building and Bape’s cult following, expect the collection to sell fast when it hits shelves.

Fans should keep an eye out in the coming months for official images, pricing, and release information. February 2026 could be the start of a global streetwear moment tied to one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
