#RHOA: Photo of K. Michelle & Porsha Williams Goes Viral Amid RHOA Casting Rumors
Casting is always a hot topic ahead of a new season taping when it comes to “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” Kenya Moore and Brit Eady are both out for Season 17. As we reported, their fallout resulted in Kenya being removed from the show. Producers said they no longer wanted Kenya to film the show after her exposé of Brit during the launch of her beauty salon.

Brit later sued Bravo and the production company before the conclusion of Season 16. She said that the photo shared at Kenya’s event was not of her. This was allegedly made known to her after the fact. As a result, she believes this was done maliciously and ruined her experience as a newbie on RHOA.

She confirmed she was leaving the show in a statement released on social media. As for Kenya, she confirmed she would not be returning for Season 17, but she also hinted at who would be joining the cast. She told her followers that the person is from “Love & Hip Hop,” and when one commenter guessed K. Michelle, Kenya said it was a good guess.

Well, a new photo has lent credence to Kenya’s hints. In the picture, K. Michelle can be seen smiling with Porsha Williams and Kelli Ferrell at the Dirty Tea, a luxury afternoon tea house.

#HipHopNews: Doechii Pulls Out Of All Upcoming Festivals Without Explanation
Doechii has announced that she has abruptly pulled out of all festival appearances on short notice.
The TDE rapper was scheduled to perform at London’s All Points East festival this Saturday (August 23) but the event announced she would no longer be attending.

They said in a statement: “Unfortunately, Doechii will no longer be able to perform at All Points East on Saturday August 23. We’d like to apologise to any disappointed fans and hope to welcome Doechii to All Points East in the future.”
Shortly afterwards, statements followed from Forwards Bristol in the UK and Rock En Seine in Paris, France that Doechii had cancelled her performance.

None of the festivals provided a reason why Doechii would no longer be performing.
Despite the cancellations, Doechii is still set to go on her Live From the Swamp tour this October.
The rapper herself has not revealed a reason for the late cancellations.
Earlier this year, the “Anxiety” rapper called out Donald Trump for his immigration raids across Los Angeles.

Taking to the stage to accept her award at the BET Awards, the TDE rapper turned her speech into a fierce critique of Trump while protesters face off against ICE agents in Los Angeles.
She said: “There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of law and order.”

The “Anxiety” rapper continued: “Trump is using military forces to stop a protest. I want you all to consider what kind of government it appears to be when every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us. What type of government is that?”
She added: “People are being swept up and torn from their families. I feel like it’s my responsibility as an artist to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people … We all deserve to live in hope and not fear. I hope we stand together.”

A number of other high profile Hip Hop figures have also called out Trump and ICE for his government’s attacks on immigrant communities including Ice Cube, The Game and Cardi B.

Ghostface Killah Claims Diddy Admitted to Blocking Wu-Tang From the Radio in 1997

In an interview on The Bootleg Kev Podcast, Ghostface Killah said that Diddy helped block The Wu-Tang Clan from getting radio play around the release of their second studio album, Wu-Tang Forever.
While reminiscing about Wu-Tang's tour with Rage Against the Machine in 1997, which they left before it ended, Ghost said that Diddy prevented them from getting radio play that same year. "We left that tour, and it was messed up because we had to make a decision," he said. "Like, come back to your people over here, or stay over here and get big with these guys... We left."

The group was blacklisted by Hot 97 after Ghostface Killah led a "fuck Hot 97" chant during their performance at Summer Jam that year.
"When we left and did the Hot 97... Shit was a disaster," he said. "They cut our records off that day, they didn't play no Wu shit no more. That's when Puffy was really getting on his shit, know what I mean? ... It just wasn't the same no more... I cursed them n***a's out."

He said that he only found out recently that Diddy was partially responsible for the Hot 97 blacklisting.
"RZA told me this like maybe a year ago, and said like, 'Yo, Puff admitted to saying that he stopped our records up there.' ... So it was all Bad Boy. We dropped 'Triumph,' no radio play with that shit. So it came out that he told the truth, like, 'Yo, I had to do it.' ... He had the power. I don't know what he paid 'em, but he had the power. ... Listen, we was a threat. We was coming, if 'Triumph' was promoted like it was supposed to be and we would have stayed on that radio right there, I think things to right now would have been a little bit different."

While the Wu-Tang Clan and Diddy never had an outright beef, there was a sense of animosity between them. This came out in Raekwon and Ghost's famous "Shark N****s (Biters)" skit, in which the latter makes a pointed comment about rappers "biting off your album cover and shit," specifically criticizing unnamed "happy go lucky n****s" who copied Nas' album cover — which most people at the time took to be a dig at the Notorious B.I.G., whose debut LP cover featured a baby, just like Nas' debut Illmatic, released months prior. Diddy also named his 1999 album Forever, a title surprisingly similar to the name of the Wu's 1997 project, the aforementioned Wu-Tang Forever.

The only public confirmation of issues between Diddy and Wu-Tang at the time came when Ol' Dirty Bastard crashed the 1998 Grammy Awards stage.
The late rapper interrupted Shawn Colvin's acceptance speech for Song of the Year to express his disappointment at Diddy winning Best Rap Album over them. "Puffy is good, but Wu-Tang is the best," he said. "I want you all to know that this is ODB, and I love you all."

Target names insider Michael Fiddelke new CEO, succeeding Brian Cornell
Target is tapping a homegrown talent as its next CEO at one of the most pivotal moments in its 63-year history.
The discounter announced that longtime CEO Brian Cornell's heavily groomed No. 2, Michael Fiddelke, will take over as CEO on Feb. 1, 2026. Cornell, who has been CEO of Target since August 2014, will slide into the executive chair position for an undetermined period of time. Fiddelke joined Target in 2003 as an intern and rose through the ranks to CFO and then COO.

"I've had this conversation with the board for a number of years, and I've been in the role for 11 years. I'm going into my 12th now. I will actually turn 67 early next year, and I think it's time for me to step back, recharge, spend a lot more time with my family, a lot fewer nights in hotels, and be a great supporter of Michael and the team for the rest of my life," Cornell told me by video call while sitting next to Fiddelke at the company's Minneapolis headquarters.

Fiddelke added, "I bleed Target red after 20 years here, and there's nothing more important to me than working with the incredible team that we have to chart the next chapter for Target. I mean, I've seen us in that 20 years at our best. I've seen us not at our best. When we're at our best, we are pretty darn tough to beat."

Shares fell 9% in premarket trading after second quarter earnings on Wednesday, which beat estimates but plunged 20.2% from the prior year. Comparable sales fell 1.9%.
"The market had anticipated a CEO change, though we believe was hoping for an external CEO given the troubles Target has had driving sales and profits in recent yrs," Citi analyst Paul Lejuez said.

Somewhat lost in the retailer's brutal first quarter results in May was the announcement of a new "multi-year Enterprise Acceleration Office" led by Fiddelke.
Fiddelke, who displays the same calm demeanor as Cornell, was tasked with improving operating efficiencies throughout the company, saving billions of dollars and driving faster decision making at the top. His appointment to this key position put him in the lead to succeed Cornell.
Target has struggled post-pandemic as shoppers lean into everyday value at Walmart (WMT), especially in food. The company has also dealt with shopper backlash to its Pride Month assortments and then revisions to its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs.

Target has frequently been forced to adjust its guidance lower amid challenging quarterly sales and profits. The retailer badly missed Wall Street estimates for first quarter earnings and slashed its full-year outlook.
"While we're not pleased with the results, we're encouraged by the improved performance as we go into the third quarter of the year," Cornell told me.
Some on the Street have told me an outside CEO with fresh eyes would be better for Target. The company wasted no time trying to counter the narrative that Fiddelke wouldn't be a change agent.

Christine Leahy, lead independent director of Target's board, said in a statement that the board selected Fiddelke after a years-long process that included an "extensive external search."
"But what sets him apart is how he combines those strengths with a 'fresh eyes' mindset, challenging the status quo to evolve how the business operates, differentiates, and delivers long-term value," Leahy said.
Target's stock was down 23% year to date ahead of the news today.

Fiddelke said he will offer up his own candid assessment of the business. Expect an early focus on better store operations, including online order fulfillment, and stronger, more surprising merchandise assortments — a Target hallmark.
"One of Brian's favorite phrases is that a pep talk starts with straight talk. I believe that too. And so we need to be focused on what it's going to take to do better," Fiddelke said.
In September 2022, Target scrapped its CEO retirement age of 65. Cornell signed on for three more years, making 2025 the year when a successor could be announced.

Cornell told me in a September 2024 interview that he takes succession planning very seriously.
"One of the things that I spend a lot of time on and have for years is investing in talent development," Cornell said. "It's one of my most important responsibilities is to make sure we're constantly developing talent to lead the company going forward."

Cornell announced Wednesday he will be stepping aside as CEO in early 2026. · Brian Sozzi

Cornell has left quite a mark during his tenure.
His first official day at Target was on Aug. 12, 2014, after he spent time leading Walmart's Sam's Club division and crafts retailer Michaels.
As the first outsider to lead Target as CEO, Cornell came into a retailer that often missed the mark. The company had been taking heat from a data breach that impacted an estimated 40 million debit and credit cards. And prior management's dreadful foray into Canada was hemorrhaging money.

In early January 2015, Cornell announced the closure of 133 stores in Canada, less than two years after the company opened its first location in the country. Target incurred a $5.4 billion quarterly loss and laid off 17,000 workers.
Cornell went on to acquire same-day delivery service Shipt, ink deals with Disney (DIS) and Ulta (ULTA) for shops inside its stores, and remodel the chain. The company expanded its private-label offerings, food assortment, and online offerings. It also launched a paid membership program.

Despite the roller coaster of the past few years, Target's stock is still up 75% since Cornell's first day as CEO.
Now he can sit back and see if he taught his protégé enough to reawaken the retailer — just as he did more than a decade ago.

Jermaine Dupri Admits Avoiding Work With Chris Brown Out Of Loyalty To Usher

Despite being one of Hip-Hop and R&B’s most prolific hitmakers, Jermaine Dupri has his reasons for not locking in a studio session with Chris Brown—and they all lead back to loyalty.
In a recent conversation with Joe Budden, Dupri explained why he’s chosen to keep a respectful distance when it comes to collaborating musically with Brown, especially given his long-standing creative relationship with Usher.

“I know everybody have this thing about Usher and Chris Brown,” Dupri told Budden. “I’m never gonna say Chris Brown, and I f**k with Chris Brown, but I wrote half of the Usher songs. Y’all want me to go against myself? Like, I’m not doing that.”

Over the years, comparisons between Brown and Usher have intensified, particularly with the past ideas of a potential Verzuz showdown. Dupri, who’s been a central figure in Usher’s success, feels that any major collaboration with Brown could blur lines musically and personally.
“Like, however you feel [is] going to happen in the Verzuz, that’s how y’all feel. These my songs. I wrote these songs, I’m going for my songs. I’m never going to go against myself,” he said. “But at the same time, like I said, with being competitive, I’m also saying, I want Usher to stay Usher. I want Chris Brown to stay Chris Brown. Let’s fight it out.”

Dupri even likened the dynamic to a hypothetical involving Michael Jackson: “It’s dangerous at this point. Like I said, I don’t go in the studio thinking about, ‘Let me hold this one, let me keep this [for another artist]. If I go in the studio with Chris Brown, I might f**k around and make Thriller and Usher would hate me for the rest of my life [laughs].”
He acknowledges Chris Brown’s star power and the chemistry they could create—he’s been there before. “I would love to work with Chris Brown. I have worked with Chris Brown before. Bow Wow and Chris Brown got a No. 1 record [“Shortie Like Mine”], as soon as we put him on the song, No. 1. You ain’t gotta tell me what’s gonna happen, I know what’s gonna happen,” Dupri noted.

Still, for JD, the stakes are too high. “I’m just saying, I have an experience of doing this with Jagged Edge and Dru Hill, where I know the danger in it. And I’m also so confident in myself, I know if I go in the studio with Chris Brown, I’m not f**king around, I’m gonna come out with a record that’s gonna [resonate].”
As Joe Budden himself put it during the exchange: “We need JD [and] Chris Brown!” But for now, it looks like Dupri is choosing loyalty over potential chart domination.

Marlon Wayans To Adapt South Korean Game Show, ‘Midnight Horror Story,’ For American Audience

Marlon Wayans is aiming to transform the hit South Korean game show, Midnight Horror Story, into an American classic.
“With the success of Scary Movie and the ‘A Haunted House’ franchise, Rick [Alvarez] and I have always had an affinity for the mash-up of horror and comedy. This project fits perfectly in our wheelhouse,” Wayans shared in a statement.
The show is being backed by Wayans and Alvarez’s Ugly Baby Productions with the help of Craig and Clara Plestis’ Smart Dog Media, which is behind The Masked Singer.

The American version of the popular game show will “feature well-known actors who, in each episode, will deliver chilling yet comedic stories, brought to life through immersive, cinematic reenactments,” according to the series’ official logline.

“The goal is for each celebrity to use their acting prowess to tell the scariest story. The show’s hidden mystic audience of spirits (a mix of live in-studio and virtual audience members) will illuminate a candle whenever they find a story truly frightening. The celebrity who earns the most candles will be crowned the winner. The new series will amplify the comedy elements as a key factor of the format.” Deadline notes “the set itself will surround performers in the sights and sounds of each tale, heightening the fear factor.”
The original Midnight Horror Story is now in its fifth season. It has remained a popular viewing across the nations with its expansion into the digital space. The core audience is younger viewers, who primarily watch YouTube and such, as opposed to a linear format.

Ugly Baby Productions is also producing the sixth installment of the Scary Movie franchise, which is slated for theatrical release on June 12, 2026. Wayans has confirmed that the lead cast includes himself, his brother Shawn, as well as Regina Hall and Anna Faris.

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis Set To Face Off Against Jake Paul In Live-Streamed Exhibition Fight

Gervonta “Tank” Davis is stepping into the ring for an exhibition fight against Jake Paul!
The match, slated for November 15, will take place at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena and stream live on Netflix. Reports note that Gervonta, the undefeated WBA lightweight champion (30?0?1, 28 KOs), was originally preparing for a high-stakes rematch with Lamont Roach, following their controversial draw back in March.

Meanwhile, Jake was pursuing a fight with two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, but those talks allegedly fell through due to broadcast rights disputes.
Now, Gervonta and Jake are gearing up for what’s expected to be a major spectacle, but not a traditional boxing match. With a significant size gap (Jake weighing around 200 lbs compared to Gervonta’s 135 lbs), this will be an exhibition fight at a catchweight, designed more for entertainment than for competitive parity.

Judge rules against Jimmie Allen in second sexual assault lawsuit over missed court deadlines
A U.S. district judge has penalized country singer Jimmie Allen and his company, Aadyn’s Dad Touring Inc., after repeated failures to comply with court orders, according to court documents obtained by CoastTV. This is related to an ongoing lawsuit with the second Jane Doe alleging Allen of sexual assault.
In an order filed Aug. 18, U.S. District Judge Aleta A. Trauger granted a motion for sanctions and judgment against Allen and his company, noting that they had not responded to the motion and had disregarded prior rulings.

The court highlighted several violations, including the defendants’ failure to pay $5,950 in mediation fees that were ordered on March 3, as well as their failure to secure new local counsel within the 14-day deadline set by the court.
“The defendants throughout have failed to comply with case management discovery deadlines and even failed to comply with specific Orders of this court." said Trauger in the ruling.
Judge Trauger ruled that the motion for sanctions was both unopposed and “well supported by the facts of this case.” She ordered the plaintiff to file a properly supported motion for damages within 20 days.

"We are pleased with the Court’s decision to grant judgment for Plaintiff in light of Jimmie Allen’s refusal to participate in the litigation process," said Elizabeth Fegan, Jane Doe's lawyer in a statement to CoastTV. "We look forward to proving up Plaintiff’s damages caused by Allen’s predatory acts."

CoastTV has reached out to Allen's legal representation, Ted Anastasiou, for comment but has not responded. Since the start of sexual assault allegations against Allen, he has had at least three different legal representatives.
The sanctions come in connection with the ongoing lawsuit filed in 2023 against Allen and his touring company. The second Jane Doe accuses Allen of assaulting her in a Las Vegas hotel room and recording her during sex without her knowledge in July 2022. The first Jane Doe and former manager of Allen sued him for assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress in May 2023.

L.A. Reid Representing Himself After Lawyers Withdraw From $exual Assault Case

L.A. Reid is headed to trial without a lawyer. During a recent hearing in his civil case with former Arista Records executive Drew Dixon, U.S. District Judge Jeannette A. Vargas confirmed Reid would be proceeding “pro se,” meaning without an attorney, after granting his lawyers’ request to withdraw. The firm told the court Reid hadn’t paid them since February.

Judge Vargas warned Reid that he must appear in court if he does not secure new counsel before the Sept. 8 trial.
Dixon filed her lawsuit in 2023, claiming Reid began harassing her “almost immediately” after taking over Arista in 2000. She alleged the harassment escalated in 2001 when Reid “forcibly kissed her, and digitally penetrated her vulva without her consent” on a private plane. She also claimed he a$$aulted her again months later in the back of a car, and retaliated when she rejected him by refusing to hear artists she brought in.

Reid has denied the allegations.

Lance Rivera Calls Out Jay-Z for Not Helping Dame Dash Amid Financial Struggles
Lance Rivera believes Jay-Z's alleged treatment of Dame Dash since their fallout is "some sucker shit."
"I think was some sucker shit when they excluded him from the history of who he is and Roc-A-Fella and that Brooklyn Museum shit," Rivera said. "I think it was unjust."

Rivera appears to be referencing the "Book of Hov" exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library in which the late Irv Gotti spoke about the alleged absence of anything related to Dame Dash in his Drink Champs interview. Gotti took it a step further, justifying the alleged omission by arguing that the success of Roc-A-Fella "was all Hov," adding, "Dame was along for the ride."

"Yeah, Dame got his money," Rivera continued. "He probably did some things that he did with his money that was, you know what I'm saying—but nah, he not supposed to be in the situation that he's in."
Dash's financial woes primarily stem from back taxes, including $8.7 million to the state of New York. According to the New York Post, the state government spent $1 million for a 33.3 percent stake of Roc-A-Fella Records in an effort to recoup some of the money he owed.

Jay intervened with a court filing because the label owned the rights to his debut album Reasonable Doubt until 2031, when it would go back to him. The rapper wanted to ensure that the outcome of the auction would not put his eventual ownership in jeopardy.

Dame also owes more than $800,000 to filmmaker Josh Webber as part of a copyright infringement and defamation lawsuit.
Even though Jay has helped Lil Wayne with his taxes and offered a "lifeline" to Scarface during his health scare, Rivera takes issue with the Roc-A-Fella co-foundrer's unwillingness to give Dame millions of dollars to get him out of his financial hole.

Rivera also revisited the claim that Jay stabbed him at New York City's Kit Kat Club in 1999, calling back to his Vlad TV interview where he stated that was false.
Rivera acknowledged that there was confrontation over a number of issues, but it never led to a stabbing.
"I ended up getting surrounded by a bunch of people. It was probably 10 knives that I knew of, and I ended up getting stabbed at the Kit Kat Club," he recalled, per Vibe.

"No. Jay-Z was not the guy that actually stabbed me that night," he said, despite the rapper being arrested and charged over the incident.
Rivera said if Jay were actually the person who stabbed him, there would have never been The Black Album because "I’m an eye-for-an-eye type of guy."

Trump targets Smithsonian museums in heated cultural battle

President Donald Trump escalated his administration’s cultural agenda by targeting the Smithsonian Institution, criticizing the nation’s most prestigious museums for focusing too heavily on difficult chapters of American history. His comments have ignited fierce debate about how historical events should be presented to the public.

The president’s critique centers on exhibits that examine slavery and other challenging aspects of American history, which he believes present an overly negative portrayal of the nation. His administration has launched a comprehensive review aimed at reshaping how these institutions present historical narratives to millions of annual visitors.

The Trump administration initiated a formal examination of Smithsonian museums last week, seeking to identify and modify content deemed divisive or partisan. This unprecedented review affects multiple institutions including the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Museum of American History, the National Air and Space Museum, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.

Federal funding represents approximately 62 percent of the Smithsonian’s operating budget, giving the administration significant leverage in demanding content changes. The review process aims to replace what officials consider ideologically driven language with material they describe as unifying, historically accurate, and constructive.

Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch III received formal correspondence outlining the administration’s expectations for content corrections throughout the institution’s various facilities. The directive emphasizes the need for exhibits that align with the president’s vision of American historical presentation.
Trump‘s criticism specifically targets exhibits that detail the experiences of enslaved people and the long-term impacts of slavery on American society. He argues that museums should focus more heavily on success stories and positive aspects of American development rather than examining difficult historical periods.

The president’s position reflects broader cultural tensions about how educational institutions should address controversial historical topics. His administration believes current presentations create negative impressions of American achievements and discourage patriotic sentiment among visitors.
This approach represents a fundamental shift in museum philosophy, moving away from comprehensive historical examination toward presentations that emphasize national accomplishments while minimizing discussions of systemic injustices and their consequences.

The Smithsonian Institution responded to the administration’s criticism by reaffirming its commitment to scholarly excellence, rigorous research, and factual historical presentation. Museum leaders emphasized their dedication to accurate portrayals based on extensive documentation and academic research.
Professional historians and museum curators have expressed concerns about political interference in educational content, arguing that comprehensive historical understanding requires examination of both positive and negative aspects of the American experience. They contend that avoiding difficult topics creates incomplete and misleading narratives.

The tension reflects competing visions of museums’ educational role, with the administration favoring inspirational presentations while museum professionals advocate for comprehensive historical accuracy that includes uncomfortable truths about past injustices.
Social media responses to Trump’s comments revealed sharp divisions about historical presentation and the role of government in shaping cultural narratives. Critics argued that minimizing slavery’s impact represents dangerous historical revisionism that ignores documented suffering and systemic oppression.

Supporters of the president’s position contend that museums should emphasize American achievements and progress rather than dwelling on historical failures. They argue that current presentations discourage patriotism and create negative impressions of the nation’s founding principles and development.

Congressional representatives have weighed in on both sides of the debate, with some defending comprehensive historical education while others support the administration’s efforts to reshape museum presentations toward more positive messaging.
The administrative review is scheduled for completion in early 2026, strategically timed before the 250th anniversary of American independence. This deadline creates pressure for rapid assessment and potential modification of exhibits across multiple museum facilities.

Implementation faces significant practical challenges, including the need to modify existing displays, revise educational materials, and potentially relocate or remove artifacts that don’t align with the administration’s preferred narratives. These changes could require substantial financial investment and professional expertise.

The timeline also raises questions about continuity if political leadership changes before the review’s completion, potentially leaving museums in limbo regarding long-term exhibition planning and educational programming decisions.
The Smithsonian review may set precedents for federal oversight of other cultural institutions receiving government funding. Universities, libraries, and local museums could face similar pressure to modify their presentations of American history according to political preferences.

This development represents a significant shift in the relationship between government and cultural institutions, potentially compromising the independence traditionally enjoyed by educational and cultural organizations in developing their programming and exhibitions.
The controversy highlights fundamental questions about the purpose of public museums and whether they should inspire patriotism, provide comprehensive education, or balance both objectives while maintaining scholarly integrity and historical accuracy.

California Lake Tahoe plague outbreak sparks panic
A California resident is recovering at home after contracting plague during a camping trip to the South Lake Tahoe area, health officials announced. The rare case has prompted El Dorado County authorities to issue safety reminders for outdoor enthusiasts visiting the popular recreation destination.

The patient, whose identity remains private, is receiving medical treatment and making progress in their recovery, according to county health officials. El Dorado County has notified the California Department of Health about the positive plague case, marking the first reported instance in the South Lake Tahoe area since 2020.
Health investigators believe the camper contracted plague after being bitten by an infected flea while enjoying the outdoors in the South Lake Tahoe region. The investigation continues as officials work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the exposure.

Plague transmission typically occurs when fleas bite infected rodents like squirrels and chipmunks before moving on to human hosts. These tiny parasites serve as carriers, spreading the bacteria from wildlife to unsuspecting campers and hikers who venture into areas where infected animals live.

Kyle Fliflet, El Dorado County’s Acting Director of Public Health, emphasized that plague occurs naturally throughout many California regions, particularly in higher elevation areas like those surrounding Lake Tahoe. The scenic mountain environment that attracts thousands of visitors also provides ideal habitat for the rodents that can harbor plague bacteria.
People who contract plague typically develop symptoms within two weeks of exposure. The most common signs include fever, nausea, weakness, and notably swollen lymph nodes that can become quite painful. These symptoms often resemble those of other illnesses, making early diagnosis crucial for effective treatment.

When caught early, plague responds well to antibiotic treatment, which explains why the Lake Tahoe patient is recovering successfully at home. Modern medicine has transformed plague from the deadly pandemic it once was into a manageable infection when proper medical care is provided promptly.

The bacteria responsible for plague, known scientifically as Yersinia pestis, remains the same organism that caused devastating outbreaks throughout history. However, contemporary antibiotics and medical understanding have dramatically reduced the mortality rate associated with modern plague cases.
Public health officials continuously monitor local rodent populations to track plague presence in the Lake Tahoe region. Their surveillance efforts have identified concerning trends in recent years, with 41 rodents testing positive for plague bacteria exposure between 2021 and 2024.

The monitoring program detected four additional positive rodents in 2025, all located within the Tahoe Basin area where outdoor recreation remains popular year-round. This ongoing surveillance helps officials understand plague patterns and issue appropriate warnings to residents and visitors.

Domestic animals pose additional risks, as dogs and cats can transport plague-infected fleas into homes after outdoor adventures. Pet owners should remain vigilant about flea prevention and check their animals regularly for signs of flea infestation, especially after camping or hiking trips.
The current case represents only the third confirmed human plague infection in the South Lake Tahoe area in recent years. Prior to the 2020 case, two individuals contracted plague in 2015 following exposure in Yosemite National Park, highlighting how uncommon human infections remain despite the bacteria’s environmental presence.

These statistics demonstrate that while plague exists in California’s wilderness areas, human cases remain exceptionally rare. The low infection rate reflects both the relatively uncommon nature of transmission and the effectiveness of public health monitoring systems.

Prevention strategies protect outdoor enthusiasts
Health officials recommend several precautions for people planning outdoor activities in areas where plague might be present. The most important rule involves avoiding contact with wild rodents, particularly squirrels, chipmunks, and other small mammals, whether they appear healthy, sick, or deceased.

Campers should avoid setting up tents or sleeping areas near locations where dead rodents have been observed. This simple precaution significantly reduces the likelihood of encountering infected fleas seeking new hosts.
Protective clothing provides another layer of defense against flea bites. Long pants tucked into boots create barriers that make it difficult for fleas to reach skin, while insect repellent adds chemical protection against various biting insects including fleas.

Despite this isolated case, Lake Tahoe continues to welcome millions of visitors annually who enjoy camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities without incident. The region’s natural beauty and recreational opportunities remain as appealing as ever, with proper precautions ensuring safe enjoyment of the wilderness.
Health officials stress that awareness rather than fear should guide outdoor recreation decisions. Understanding the risks and taking appropriate preventive measures allows people to safely experience California’s magnificent natural environments while minimizing health concerns.

The successful treatment of the current plague case demonstrates that modern medical care can effectively handle these rare infections when they occur, providing reassurance for both residents and visitors to the Lake Tahoe area.

Ayo Edebiri & Don Cheadle to Star In 'Proof' Revival, Will Both Make Broadway Debuts

Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle are heading to the Great White Way!! The 29-year-old Emmy-winning The Bear star and the 60-year-old Oscar-nominated actor will be starring in the upcoming Broadway revival of David Auburn’s Tony Award-winning play Proof, according to Variety.
This will mark the Broadway debuts for both Ayo and Don! Tony-winning Hamilton director Thomas Kail will direct the strictly limited engagement at the Shubert Theatre in Spring 2026.
Proof “tells the story of a brilliant but troubled mathematician, his daughter and the blurred line between genius and madness.”

“It’s hard to find the right words when talking about a text as rich and witty and full as David’s – what I can say is how deeply grateful I am for this incredible opportunity,” Ayo shared in a statement. “I can’t believe my good fortune that I not only get to go to Broadway with this play, but have the opportunity to work alongside Don Cheadle, Tommy Kail, and such an amazing team around us.”

“I couldn’t be happier for the opportunity to return to the stage in this remarkable play with this level of talent assembled to pull it off,” Don said. “As a father of two, both around the same age as Ayo, I’m excited (if not a little nervous) to dig into all the father/daughter messiness, not to mention the mental health challenges the family faces.”
Previews are set to begin March 31st and the official opening night is slated for April 16th.

Gabrielle Union Addresses Almost 10-Year Age Gap with Dwyane Wade, Shares Why His Family Was Initially Skeptical
Gabrielle Union is admitting that not everyone was on board with her relationship with Dwyane Wade at the beginning.
If you didn’t know, the 52-year-old Bring It On actress and the 43-year-old retired pro basketball player first started dating in 2009, after their respective first marriages ended, before marrying in 2014.

In a new relationship, Gabrielle addressed their 9-year age gap and shared why Dwyane‘s family, especially his older sister Tragil, was skeptical when they first started dating.

“When I first met his family, the older sisters, who are closer in my age, immediately good,” Gabrielle shared on Michelle Obama‘s IMO podcast. “We’re good in the hood. But with Tragil, because she has been the protector…She has been the watchdog. She has been the gatekeeper to keep him sane and to keep him doing everything he needs to do without interference from anybody.”

She went on to say that until they tied the knot, Tragil and mom Jolinda both needed to be convinced that her relationship with Dwyane was the real deal.
“Before I got to the wife stage, like when we were just the very beginning “I think Tragil and his mom were like, ‘What do you want? Who are you, you older lady? What do you want?’” Gabrielle shared.
However, she was quick to alleviate their concerns.
“I was like, ‘Actually, we both just got divorced, so we’re kind of in the same space. I didn’t have a kid at 20, I’m still childless, and I’m not racing to do that, so I’m straight. I got my own bank account, so I’m good. I just like him, we’ll see where it goes,’” Gabrielle recalled.

“It took some years, really, to earn their trust and also for them to earn my trust so we could be comfortable equally,” she explained. “Now, it’s easy, because we are all on the same side.”
The Being Mary Jane actress added, “But you want that grace, you give that grace and you eventually receive that grace. But it’s a learning curve, for sure.”
In an interview from earlier this year, Gabrielle explained why she felt like a “f–king public humiliation” when she had to use a surrogate to welcome daughter Kaavia, now 6.

The collection includes 55 lipsticks, tinted balms, and eight eyeshadow palettes, all designed to reflect the brand’s long-standing dedication to luxury and craftsmanship.

The creative direction is led by legendary makeup artist Dame Pat McGrath, who brings her expertise in both runway makeup and product development. McGrath personally crafted and selected each shade, ensuring that the line combines high performance with artistic design while staying true to Louis Vuitton’s commitment to excellence.
At the center of the collection is LV Rouge, the lipstick range that pays homage to the brand’s initials and their corresponding Roman numeral. The 55 shades are divided between satin and matte finishes.

Highlights include 896 Monogram Rouge, a fusion of Louis Vuitton’s classic Monogram canvas tones with red, and 854 Rouge Louis, a bold scarlet representing the house’s spirit of individuality.
Each lipstick is made with an 85% skincare base, including hyaluronic acid, shea butter, and waxes from upcycled rose, jasmine, and mimosa flowers. The cost is $160 for a case and refill, with additional refills available at $69.

The LV Baume collection offers ten tinted balms that provide buildable color and up to 48 hours of hydration. La Beauté’s LV Ombres eyeshadow palettes consist of eight compacts, each with four shades ranging from matte to glitter finishes. Digital preorders for La Beauté Louis Vuitton begin August 25th on the brand’s official website, with the full collection available globally starting August 29th.

Trump Budget Plan Slaps 2-Year Limit on Section 8, Millions Could Be Impacted

Trump’s proposed 2026 budget includes one of the biggest shake-ups to housing assistance in decades: a two-year time limit on Section 8 rental vouchers for non-elderly, able-bodied adults. Seniors and people with disabilities would still be eligible for longer-term help, but working families and single parents would have to move off the program within 24 months.

The plan doesn’t stop there. The budget calls for cutting HUD funding by more than 40 percent and turning federal housing programs into block grants managed by the states. That means Section 8, public housing, and other programs would have smaller budgets and far less federal oversight.

What this means for families
For the roughly 2.3 million households receiving Section 8 vouchers, the two-year cap could be devastating. Many families use vouchers as a long-term bridge while working low-wage jobs, raising children, or recovering from financial setbacks. Critics argue that most recipients won’t be able to move into market-rate housing after just two years, leading to higher rates of eviction, housing insecurity, and homelessness.
Parents raising kids in Section 8 housing worry that the time limit could disrupt schooling, stability, and family safety. Advocates note that while the program was never intended as permanent housing for everyone, the proposed cap doesn’t take into account rising rents, stagnant wages, or the affordable housing shortage nationwide.

What this means for landlords
The changes could also shake up the rental market. Landlords who accept Section 8 tenants depend on steady government payments for rent. If millions of tenants are cut off after two years, landlords could face unpaid rents, higher turnover, and more vacancies in already struggling housing markets.

Some property owners may decide the risks outweigh the benefits and stop accepting Section 8 tenants altogether. That would make it even harder for families to find affordable places to live, especially in urban centers where demand is already high.
The budget still needs approval from Congress, which has previously rejected similar cuts. But if passed, the changes could mark the end of Section 8 as families know it.
