#RHOA: Phaedra Parks Talks Newbies, Navigating New Dynamics And Porsha & Shamea’s Friendship Fallout
A seasoned Southern belle with a penchant for precision in her reads is reclaiming her time in the Bravosphere, and she’s speaking on newbies, navigating new dynamics, and THAT unfortunate friendship fallout.
“Some friendships just end,” said the attorney, mortician, and certified shade assassin.
Phaedra Parks is s back for good, and in full form for #RHOA season 17, and according to her, this return is right on time.
BOSSIP’s own Liz Smith caught up with the fan favorite to talk about stepping back into the peach-filled spotlight, and one thing is clear. Phaedra is not easing in; she is owning every moment of it.
“I was back on season 16 for 10 days, so that wasn’t enough, so I said, let me go on and do it again!”
For longtime viewers who have watched her journey since the early days, Phaedra made it clear that what we are seeing now is not a reinvention, it is evolution.
“You first saw me back in 2009, and that’s been 16, almost 17 years ago. So with anyone, hopefully you’re growing, changing, and evolving over the years. I don’t think it’s a different version of me, it’s just life. Life is gonna teach you wonderful lessons, good, bad, and it’s gonna make you adapt to certain scenarios. I have peace and I’m in the best era of my life.”
That peace hits different. Fans who remember her quick reads and unforgettable one-liners will still get the wit, but this time it is paired with a grounded energy that feels intentional. However, be clear, she is still going to check a girl when needed.
With a fresh crop of peaches joining the circle, Phaedra is stepping into her seasoned role whether they like it or not.
“We got some new peaches in the pie. So, of course you gotta be big sister, but sometimes people don’t like their big sister. But you gotta get the girls together! So, of course, there’s gonna be conflict, and I think that’ll be coming up sooner than later with me and some of the girls.
But at the end of the day, this season to me is so good because it reminds me of those wonderful seasons that we had, you know, decades ago. And I think people are just gonna love it.”
Of course, we had to get into where things stand with Angela Oakley after their tension in season 16. As previously reported, the two clashed during the Real Housewives of Atlanta reunion, where Angela accused Phaedra of being the mastermind behind sending a man named Marcus—a supposed stranger—to stir the pot at Kelli Ferrell’s cooking event with cheating allegations about Charles Oakley.
Phaedra vehemently denied the claims, leaving the issue unresolved at the time.
Now, however, it appears the dynamic has shifted.
“We are definitely in a better place. I mean, obviously, episode one, we still talking about toastgate! You know it’s like…okay, girl. But we’re moving in a different direction, and I like Angela. Angela’s quick on her feet.”
The ladies’ more friendly dynamic was shown Sunday during The Real Housewives of Atlanta when Angela apologized to Phaedra.
One relationship fans are watching closely is the dynamic between Porsha Williams and Shamea Morton. And with Phaedra being firmly in her “Frick” Porsha’s corner, she did not shy away from sharing her thoughts.
“You know what? This is the thing. In any friendship, you’re gonna have ups and downs, but I think it’s hard to watch it, but at the end of the day…let me say this appropriately, at the end of the day, some friendships just end. And it’s not always the best thing to get on a show with your friend after you’ve been on the show as a friend.
“Then sometimes I think that causes conflict because at the end of the day, you know, Porsha is that girl. A lot of girls want to be Porsha. But at the end of the day there is only one Porsha and once people realize that, get in your own lane.,The reason our friendship works so well, I’m not jealous of Porsha. I don’t wanna be Porsha. Porsha, you are sexy, you are beautiful, honey. You are doing what you wanna do, and I am doing exactly what I wanna do, and I can support you and cheer you on. And that’s the way it’s gonna be. No matter what, that’s what it’s always gonna be because that’s a real friendship.”
Outside of the drama, Phaedra is also showing love to her growing circle, including rapper Latto, whom she recently celebrated at her Paper Magazine release party alongside NeNe Leakes.
“She’s so adorable and so cute pregnant! We talk about lots of things, but when you’re pregnant your body is changing so rapidly. So we were talking about that and how your emotions are on a roller coaster. I told her that even though it seems so crazy, you have to enjoy those moments because when it ends, it really ends.”
If early episodes are any indication, season 17 is turning things up a notch. Friendships are shifting, alliances are forming, and the energy feels reminiscent of the golden era that made the franchise a cultural staple. Only time will tell.
With Phaedra Parks back in the mix, the balance of humor, wisdom, and just the right amount of mess is exactly what the show needed.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo, with episodes streaming the next day on Peacock.
#NewMusic from Teedra Moses “Single”

R&B veteran Teedra Moses has officially marked her return to the music scene with the release of her latest single, aptly titled “Single.” The track serves as the lead offering from her highly anticipated fifth studio album, and is now available on all major streaming platforms.
Produced and co-written by GRAMMY Award-winner PJ Morton, the song addresses the frequent public speculation regarding Moses’ relationship status. The track opens with the pointed line, “Damn Tee, tell me why you single…”—a prompt Moses uses to reclaim the narrative around solo living.
“When PJ sent me the music, the lyrics poured out of me immediately,” Moses stated. “People are always curious about why I’m single, as if something must be wrong. But the truth is, the choice is mine. I know what I want, and I refuse to settle for anything less.”
The release coincides with Moses’ current stint on the road. She is appearing as a featured artist on Floetry’s “Say Yes” Tour, which is scheduled to run across domestic markets throughout April and May 2026.

#HipHopNews: Nicki Minaj’s Sister, Ming Li, Talks About Going To Cardi B Concert, “Picking Sides”

Ming Li, the sister of Nicki Minaj, is speaking out following the recent controversy surrounding her name.
During a conversation with Hip-Hop Wired, Ming addressed her decision to attend a Cardi B concert, given the history between Cardi and her sister.
“I was shady for that wasn’t I? I wasn’t trying to be shady,” Ming Li said. “I felt like at the time I was hanging out with my friends and they wanted to go out, I wanted to go out too. I’m not staying in the house by myself. It was either go outside, drink, have fun, or stay inside, be bored, watch TV? I’m not doing that sh*t. I was like one time for the one time.”
Li also pointed out that despite the backlash, people are still keeping up with her online.
“Everyone that was hating on me or loving me after that was still on my Instagram page, on my TikTok page, still following me around. So I feel like no matter what I say it’s going to be a blessing and a curse when it comes to my sister [Nicki Minaj].”
She also made it clear she doesn’t feel the need to choose sides between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B, despite what others may expect.
“I don’t feel like I got to pick a side, I feel like you know, if you’re not putting money in my pockets, there’s no side to pick. Or if I feel like y’all not even my family or you’re not in our family circle to tell me anything, you can’t really let me know about what I should or shouldn’t feel.”
Cardi B also weighed in on the situation, sharing her thoughts online on Ming Li attending her show.
“I just believe the little girl needs guidance, unfortunately I can’t give it because it’s just too close.”
MC Lyte Says Her Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Was ‘Surreal’

MC Lyte is one of the greatest rappers of all time and a trailblazer in the genre.
Speaking with Vibe, Lyte explained that she was “kind of shocked” at her induction.
“There’s so much more to do, but it’s a great milestone, especially to be recognized by a group of your peers or those who exist in other genres. Starting from 16 years old, rapping lyrics in a basement to now taking on one of the most esteemed acknowledgements, to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — it feels surreal,” Lyte said.
”It’s humbling and serves as a reminder to keep moving in the direction of positivity and know that I am just the conduit. God is working through me to bring the very best of whatever it is he gives me as a creative vision. I just feel like I keep getting better,” she continued.
Lyte said she never thought about being inducted until she had a conversation with Chuck D.
“I recognize going to the [Cleveland] airport and [seeing] all of the displays, like [inductees] Beastie Boys and Public Enemy. But I never equated myself with the moment. And then I received a call about two years ago from Chuck D. He was like, “Have you ever thought about wanting to be inducted?” And it was the first time it became something to think about,” she said. “But it almost felt so out there that I never even really considered what it would mean to be inducted. Hip-hop has come so far.”
Lyte also spoke about how honored she is to be inducted with Queen Latifah. Also, Salt-N-Pepa, who were inducted last year. She also praised the new leadership of the organization, which has been recognizing hip-hop artists.
“I think Latifah and I being recognized, and Salt-N-Pepa being recognized, is just a testament to the somewhat newer regime coming into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame body of voters. Many organizations that are based in overall culture are supposed to reflect the actual time we’re in,” she said. ‘And could use the benefit of restructuring. It’s just something that adds the flavor of what’s happening of the day.”
Prince Was In a ‘Panic’ Over Losing His Memory Before His Passing According to Bassist

In the months before his death, music icon Prince showed troubling signs of memory loss that left him visibly shaken, according to a former bandmate.
BrownMark, bassist for Prince’s band The Revolution, recalled moments of confusion and concern during a recent interview. He said the artist appeared increasingly distressed as his memory declined.
“You could see the panic in his face,” BrownMark said. “His memory was like really, really shot at that point.”
Prince died on April 21, 2016, at age 57. Officials later determined he died from an accidental fentanyl overdose.
BrownMark said he first noticed something was wrong after reconnecting with Prince years after their professional split. The musician invited him to Minneapolis to collaborate again.
But when BrownMark arrived, Prince appeared to forget the invitation entirely.
“I knew something was wrong,” BrownMark said. “Something was not right with his memory and his behavior.”
He described waiting alone for days, unable to reach Prince. When they finally met, the interaction raised more concerns.
According to BrownMark, Prince struggled to recall recent conversations and plans. At one point, he allegedly forgot he had asked the bassist to relocate.
“You could see the panic in his face because you can see he just remembered what he had done,” BrownMark said.
The bassist said these lapses became more frequent over time
BrownMark believes Prince’s memory issues may have been linked to opioid use. The artist had been dealing with chronic hip pain in his final years.
“Man, [pills] just clouds your memory,” BrownMark said.
Reports indicate Prince thought he was taking prescription pain medication. Investigators later found counterfeit pills containing fentanyl.
Prince had planned to meet with an addiction specialist one day after his death, according to reports.
Despite the apparent struggles, BrownMark said Prince remained intensely private.
“He ain’t gonna let nobody see him sweat,” he said.
The bassist described Prince as a perfectionist who maintained strict control over his work and image throughout his career.
Prince remains one of the most influential artists in modern music. His work continues to shape pop, funk and rock decades after his rise to fame.
Still, BrownMark’s account offers a glimpse into a difficult period near the end of the artist’s life.
The revelations add to a growing understanding of the pressures and health challenges Prince faced privately.
For BrownMark, the experience remains deeply personal.
“He wasn’t going to tell anybody,” he said.
Patients and dental community mourn Dr. Cerina Fairfax, killed by Virginia ex-Lt. Gov. Fairfax

Patients and colleagues are remembering Dr. Cerina Fairfax as a devoted mother, a caring dentist and the rock at the center of her family, after police say she was killed by her estranged husband, former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax.
Police found both dead in their home in the Washington, D.C., suburb of Annandale, Virginia, early Thursday. They believe Justin Fairfax fatally shot his wife and then killed himself. They were going through a divorce and Justin Fairfax had been ordered by a judge to move out of the house by the end of the month.
Cerina Fairfax, 49, ran a thriving family dentistry practice in the nearby city of Fairfax. A profile page on its website described her as an avid reader who liked to travel, practice yoga, go on trail runs with her Vizsla-breed dogs and "spend time with her wonderful family."
Virginia Rep. Jennifer McClellan, who knew Fairfax through her husband's campaign and the time he spent in office, said their two teenaged children were "the people she cherished most."
"Cerina Fairfax was a loving and dedicated mother and the rock at the center of her large family," McClellan wrote in a statement.
Terron Sims II, a friend and patient, remembered her as a quiet and caring friend, whose dentistry was more than a profession.
"It was an expression of love and compassion," Sims told WUSA-TV. "It was her way of service to others."
Fairfax was recognized in 2015 as the Outstanding Graduate of the Last Decade by the Virginia Commonwealth School of Dentistry. Dr. Jeffrey Johnson, the interim dean of the dental school, wrote that her loss is deeply felt by many who knew her.
"As a clinician and alumna, Dr. Fairfax embodied the ideals of our profession — dedication to her patients, commitment to growth, and a deep sense of purpose in her work each day," Johnson wrote. "I know she was a mentor, role model, and friend to many in our school."
Leaders in the state's dental community also praised her accomplishments and commitment to patients.
"In addition to being a beloved practitioner in her community, Dr. Fairfax loved giving back through volunteer work and contributions to local charities focused on helping those in need," said Ryan Dunn, CEO of the Virginia Dental Association, in a statement. "As we remember Dr. Fairfax, we honor the impact she made and the connections she helped build within the VDA and her community."
Cerina and Justin Fairfax met as undergraduates at Duke University and married in 2006.
Justin Fairfax unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for attorney general in 2013, then won the race for lieutenant governor in 2017. He was considered a rising star in the Democratic Party until two women came forward accusing him of sexually assaulting them years earlier, before he and Cerina were married. He left office at the end of his term in 2022, following an unsuccessful run for governor.
Cerina Fairfax said in court filings that they separated nearly two years ago. But they were still living in the same house with their children, who police said were both home at the time of their deaths.
The judge overseeing the divorce had told Justin Fairfax to move out by the end of April, writing "it is clear tensions in the Fairfax home have been extremely high for an extended period of time."
Amy Spain, Cerina Fairfax's attorney, said her client's death "leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of all who knew and loved her."
"Above all else, Cerina was a devoted mother to her beautiful children, who were the very center of her world," Spain said. "She embodied the true meaning of motherhood through her unconditional and unwavering devotion to her children, providing a constant source of love, protection, and guidance."

‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Cancelled Christopher Meloni Bids Farewell to his character Elliot Stabler

With the cancellation of Law & Order: Organized Crime, Christopher Meloni and his badonkadonk butt are saying farewell to the Dick Wolf fam. “I just saw that they announced Organized Crime won’t be coming back,” Meloni said in an Instagram video. “I wanted to take this moment to say ‘thank you’ to the fans who not only helped give the character of Elliot Stabler life and longevity, but for sticking with him and welcoming him back. It was a good ride.”
Meloni first played Stabler in the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit pilot in 1999. From there, he will-they-won’t-theyed with Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) for 12 years. Meloni left SVU in 2011, but he returned to the show in 2021 to backdoor-pilot Organized Crime. He also dropped into L&O prime for the occasional guest appearance throughout that show’s run and could still guest on SVU in the future. In the 17 years that Meloni has played Stabler, the man has endured a lot. He got separated, then un-separated, then his wife gave birth during a car crash, then his wife blew up. He got shot while going undercover in an animal-smuggling ring, came up against IA multiple times for accusations of excessive force, and had to interrogate Hayden Panettiere as two different people. “I had a great time playing him. It was a great ride,” Meloni said on Instagram, thanking the fans. “Thank you. You helped give me a career that I never dreamed of.”
Gospel Singer Erica Campbell Dragged For Speaking On Vow Renewal Ceremony, Shortly After Sister Tina Campbell’s Husband Files For Divorce
Erica Campbell — one half of the gospel duo Mary Mary — is currently being dragged for updating her followers on wedding plans.
Erica took to X to thank fans who have reached out to help her find the perfect wedding dress as she prepares to renew her vows. “This vow renewal is a celebration of love, family, commitment, and all God has done,” she expressed. Her latest post updating supporters comes on the heels of news that her sister and groupmate Tina Campbell’s husband, Teddy, filed for divorce. Reports revealed yesterday that after 25 years of marriage, multiple children, and Tina standing by his side following a past cheating scandal, Teddy had called it quits.
While Erica Campbell first shared news of her vow renewal plans BEFORE Tina’s marital issues became public, many felt her follow-up post thanking supporters for help with her dress choice was poorly timed, given what her sister is going through. The replies quickly flooded in with users calling her out, with one writing, “This isn’t tone deaf Erica. A day after your sisters divorce news goes viral?” Some, however, did come to Erica’s defense, with one fan saying, “You don’t have to not celebrate your winnings because another person getting divorced.”
Michael B. Jordan Unveils Reimagined Thomas Crown Affair at CinemaCon 2026

Michael B. Jordan debuted a sultry first look at The Thomas Crown Affair during Amazon MGM’s CinemaCon presentation on April 15, 2026. Directed, produced, and led by Jordan, this “reimagination” pits his billionaire heist artist against former FBI agent Adria Arjona, while Kenneth Branagh looms as a dangerous antagonist.
Breaking with previous iterations in which rich men stole for sport, Jordan’s Crown seeks to recover misappropriated artifacts for their rightful owners. “I didn’t want a reboot,” Jordan told Variety. “The first two films were about rich white guys stealing for fun. That doesn’t land today.”
Featuring an original score by Jon Batiste and a star-studded cast including Lily Gladstone and Danai Gurira, the international heist thriller is slated for a March 5, 2027, theatrical release.
Barack Obama Joins NYC Mayor Mamdani in Bronx Visit to Promote Childcare Expansion
A visit to a Bronx preschool on April 18, 2026 brought together Barack Obama and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, as the two spotlighted a growing push to expand childcare access across the city.
The event took place at the Learning Through Play Pre-K Center, where the pair spent time engaging directly with young students. They read the children’s book “Alone and Together” and led the class in a singalong of “The Wheels on the Bus,” turning the visit into both a policy moment and a hands-on interaction.
Beyond the classroom activities, the visit carried a broader message. Obama and Mamdani used a sandcastle demonstration to illustrate ideas around community building and the importance of accessible housing. The metaphor was intended to connect early childhood support with larger civic infrastructure.
The meeting also marked a notable moment for the mayor, who recently passed his first 100 days in office. Obama reportedly offered to act as a mentor and “sounding board” as Mamdani navigates the early stages of his administration.
At the center of Mamdani’s agenda is a plan to make childcare more widely available, including a proposal to extend free access to all two-year-olds in New York City. The administration has already taken initial steps, launching a pilot program that provides free, on-site childcare specifically for municipal employees.
Support for the initiative is also building at the state level. Mamdani has been working alongside Kathy Hochul, who recently committed $1.2 billion in funding toward expanding childcare access.
In addition to public funding, the mayor is seeking private support to strengthen the effort. He has called for $20 million in donations to help scale services and ensure broader reach.
The Bronx visit underscored both the political backing and the practical focus behind the plan, as Mamdani continues to position childcare as a central pillar of his administration’s policy goals.
Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s Family Breaks Silence After D4vd’s Arrest on Suspicion of Her Murder

Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s family has broken their silence after D4vd was arrested in connection with her death.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) announced the arrest of the 21-year-old singer, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, on Thursday, April 16, months after Hernandez was found dead in the trunk of his impounded Tesla in September 2025. She was 14.
Two days after Burke’s arrest was announced, Hernandez's father, Jesus Rivas, said, "Thank God ... justice for Celeste,” according to a statement family attorney Patrick Steinfeld provided to TMZ.
According to the LAPD, Burke is being held behind bars without bail.
Speaking with TMZ, Steinfeld shared insight into how Hernandez’s family plans to handle Burke's potential court appearances in the future.
Should the singer-songwriter be charged with murder, the lawyer said Hernandez’s family plans to exercise their rights under California's Victims' Bill of Rights, a.k.a. Marsy’s Law, and attend the singer’s arraignment.
They also plan to attend any press conference held after the arraignment, where they will speak to reporters, Steinfeld said.
Steinfeld did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on Sunday, April 19.
An LAPD source previously told PEOPLE that Burke was arrested in Hollywood Hills on a probable cause warrant, and he has allegedly not been "cooperative in the investigation."
Announcing his arrest, the LAPD said, “The case will be presented to the District Attorney’s office on Monday [April 20] for filing consideration.”
In a statement to PEOPLE, the Los Angeles District Attorney (LADA)'s office said, "The case is expected to be presented to the Major Crimes Division, at which point prosecutors will review the facts and evidence to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to file charge.”
Burke’s attorneys, Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter, told PEOPLE in a statement, “Let us be clear - the actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez and he was not the cause of her death."
"There has been no indictment returned by any grand jury in this case and no criminal complaint filed," the lawyers continued. "David has only been detained under suspicion. We will vigorously defend David’s innocence.”

Burke's arrest came about two months after the artist was named a target of a grand jury probe, with prosecutors alleging that Burke “may be involved in the death of 14-year-old victim Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who may have been a victim of foul play."
He had been identified as a suspect in November, a police source previously confirmed to PEOPLE.
Hernandez's remains were found in an impounded Tesla registered to the singer on Sept. 8, 2025 — one day after her 15th birthday. Her cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
It remains unclear whether Rivas and Burke are connected, though speculation has circulated online.
The L.A. medical examiner previously confirmed to PEOPLE that the teen had a “Shhh” tattoo on her right index finger — similar to a tattoo Burke also has.
However, investigators have not addressed any connection between the matching ink.
Quincy Jones III Steps in to Oversee Late Father’s Estate After Others Decline
Quincy Jones III is officially taking charge of his late father’s estate. New court filings obtained by TMZ show that the producer and filmmaker known as QD3 has been named executor of Quincy Jones’ estate after both of the music legend’s earlier choices declined the role.
Quincy Jones first named his uncle, Richard Jones, to oversee his affairs, but Richard ultimately passed. The responsibility then fell to Quincy Jones III and his half-sister, Rashida Jones. Rashida declined, leaving Quincy Jones III as the person now tasked with managing one of entertainment’s most significant legacies.
The estate includes a long list of assets, including Quincy Jones’ Los Angeles mansion, which hit the market last year for $60 million before the asking price was reduced to $40 million. The property has still not been sold.
The latest filing marks a major development in the handling of Quincy Jones’ estate, which has been moving through probate since the legendary producer died in November 2024 at age 91 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. A hearing is scheduled for May 11.
57-year-old QD3 has spent decades building his own career across music, film, television, and tech. Born in London and raised in Sweden by Quincy Jones and model Ulla Andersson, he became a producer and composer before launching QD3 Entertainment, the company behind the influential Beef documentary series that chronicled rivalries and violence in hip-hop.
He also scored films including Menace II Society, Thicker Than Water, and Pootie Tang, and contributed music to shows including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, In the House, and The PJs.
In later years, he expanded into business, co-founding the wellness company Feel Rich and launching the content platform WeMash with backing from venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.
Quincy Jones spent more than seven decades shaping music and entertainment, producing classic records for Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, and Ray Charles while also leaving his mark on film, television, and publishing.
Taraji P. Henson Calls Broadway 'Bootcamp' as She Opens Up About Making Her Debut in “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone”

Taraji P. Henson makes her Broadway debut in Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, directed by Debbie Allen
The play explores themes of displacement and healing during the Great Migration and features a talented ensemble cast
Henson says the role feels full circle after meeting playwright August Wilson during her time at Howard University
Taraji P. Henson is stepping onto a Broadway stage for the first time, and she’s feeling the intensity.
Appearing on Live with Kelly and Mark on April 16, the Oscar-nominated actress opened up about making her Broadway debut inJoe Turner’s Come and Gone, calling the experience “bootcamp.”
“Broadway is a different animal, Henson said, explaining that performing live eight times a week brings a completely different kind of energy than film or television.
“I was trained in theater, that’s why I’m really good at hosting the live award shows that I’ve hosted because it’s the exchange that you have with the audience,” she said. “When you do feature film or television, you don’t know if the joke worked until they yelled cut because no one can laugh right away or else you blow the shot. But in the theater, it’s so alive."
"I love the energy; the synergy with the audience," she added. "The show is different every night. It’s never picture lock."
Written by August Wilson, Joe Turner's Come and Gone is the second installment in his American Century Cycle, the landmark 10-play series chronicling the African American experience across the 20th century.
The highly anticipated revival, directed by Debbie Allen, began previews March 30 at the Barrymore Theatre in New York City and will officially open April 25. The limited run production will run through Sunday, July 26.
Henson stars as Bertha Holly opposite Cedric the Entertainer as Seth Holly, a married couple who run a Pittsburgh boarding house in 1911, offering refuge to Black travelers navigating the upheaval of the Great Migration.
The story follows Herald Loomis (Joshua Boone), a man determined to reunite with his lost wife after years of forced labor — and to reclaim his identity along the way. As spiritual forces awaken and long-buried trauma resurfaces, Wilson’s work explores themes of displacement, healing and renewal that continue to resonate today.
Also featured in the production is Ruben Santiago-Hudson as Bynum Walker, Maya Boyd as Molly Cunningham, Savannah Commodore and Dominique Skye Turner (sharing the role of Zonia Loomis), Abigail Onwunali as Martha Loomis, Bradley Stryker as Rutherford Selig, Tripp Taylor as Jeremy Furlow, Christopher Woodley and Jackson Edward Davis sharing the role of Reuben Scott, and Nimene Sierra Wureh as Mattie Campbell.
Understudies include Jasmine Batchelor, Rosalyn Coleman, Thomas Michael Hammond, Cayden McCoy and Kevyn Morrow.
“I’m just so amazed to be part of this production," Henson said working on the play. "[Debbie] put together such a beautiful show. It’s very spiritual. It’s centered in the spirituality of what he was trying to convey in this script. The families being displaced, which is happening today. We’re watching it in real time. And it just goes to show how timeless the show is.”
The role also carries personal significance for Henson, who recalled meeting Wilson during her time at Howard University. “It was his favorite play," she shared. "I just feel like this is full circle.”
She added that she’s especially proud of the show’s younger performers. “This cast that we have, these young actors that are coming up. I am so proud of them, they are amazing,” Henson said. “I feel like the arts are going to be left in a great place with these kids.”
As for opening night nerves, Henson is embracing them.“I’m not nervous. Here’s the thing about nerves: nerves are good,” she said. “I don’t run away from nerves, I lean into them. That must means you’re alive.”
And while some performers prefer not to know who’s in the audience, Henson said she welcomes it. “I don’t mind, I really don’t mind,” she said. “Actually, if I know who’s in the audience, I’m on my Ps and Qs. ‘Oh, I can’t sleep through this one!’ ”
