#RHOA: Cynthia Bailey Says She Would Shop at Department Stores amid Financial 'Struggles' with Ex-Husband Peter Thomas
Cynthia Bailey opened up about creating a budget-friendly wardrobe for herself amid tough financial times during her seasons of The Real Housewives of Atlanta
In a new episode of her Humble Brag podcast with Crystal Minkoff, Bailey said she shopped at department stores to save money amid her "struggles" with ex-husband Peter Thomas, who in 2024 was sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to not paying his taxes

Bailey and Thomas got married on season 3 of RHOA in 2011 then finalized their divorce in 2017
Cynthia Bailey is one of the first to admit that not everything is peachy in the world of reality television.

In a new episode of her Humble Brag podcast with Crystal Minkoff, the former Real Housewives of Atlanta star, 59, opened up about how her ex-husband Peter Thomas' financial ruin affected the way she dressed for the cameras.
"It's a very hard situation to be a Housewife. I think people don't realize the pressure there is to keep up with the Joneses, to give a good show. People don't want to watch broke people, they want to see wealth," said Minkoff, which is when Bailey shared how she budgeted when she was on the show.

"Life happens, even if you are on a reality show," she said. "If my financial situation changed for whatever reason, I would have to pivot, modify and adjust."
"When I was going through my struggles with Peter, you better believe I was recycling whatever little designer stuff I had going in. You better believe my butt was at TJ Maxx and Marshalls trying to put together [an outfit]."

"That season, I pretty much wore black the whole time because in my mind, you can't tell black is cheap."
Bailey and Thomas were featured in the early seasons of Real Housewives, in which she made her debut in 2010 (she exited the show in 2021 but returned as a "friend of" in recent seasons).

The now-exes married in 2011, with their divorce being finalized in 2017, which is when Bailey — who went on to marry Mike Hill in 2020 before they split in 2022 — opened up to PEOPLE about maintaining a relationship with Thomas, despite weathering marriage struggles, cheating scandals, squabbles with Bailey's pals and sexual lulls.
"I'm really pleased with the way we handled our divorce," Bailey said at the time. "I did not want to be mean, or ugly, or ratchet about it. I chose to be in my marriage. I was happy for many years in my marriage and a lot of great things came out of my marriage. I'm good, we're good."

In December 2024, Thomas was sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to not paying his taxes, according to court documents reviewed by PEOPLE. (News of his sentencing was first reported by The Neighborhood Talk.)
Following his sentence, Thomas was subject to two years of supervised release, per the court docket in his case, and had to pay some $2.5 million in restitution to the IRS. Thomas pleaded guilty in July of that year to failure to pay over trust fund taxes after prosecutors said he evaded more than $2 million in employment taxes for several of his businesses between 2017 and 2023. Thomas was recently released from prison, according to a February 2026 report by TMZ,

Spirit Airlines Sudden Shutdown Leaves 17,000 Jobless and Thousands of passengers asking what's next?

The aviation industry was sent into a tailspin today as Spirit Airlines officially ceased all operations after failing to secure critical emergency funding. The sudden collapse has left an estimated 17,000 employees without work and thousands of passengers stranded at airports across the country.

The low-cost carrier, known for its ultra-budget fares and “bare fare” model, had been struggling with mounting debt and operational hurdles for months. Despite desperate efforts to restructure and find a financial lifeline, the airline was unable to reach a deal with creditors, leading to the immediate grounding of its entire fleet.

“This is a devastating day for the Spirit family and our loyal travelers,” the company reportedly stated in its final communications.
Travelers at major hubs, including Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, were met with dark screens and empty counters this morning. Many passengers found out about the shutdown only after arriving for their flights, discovering that their tickets were now essentially worthless.

Airlines across the industry are reportedly bracing for the surge in demand as displaced Spirit passengers scramble to find alternative routes. Some major carriers have hinted at offering “rescue fares” for those affected, though availability remains limited during an already busy travel season.

The most staggering impact of the closure is the loss of 17,000 jobs. From pilots and flight attendants to ground crews and corporate staff, an entire workforce has been displaced overnight. Industry analysts suggest that while some skilled workers like pilots may find new roles relatively quickly given the current labor shortage, ground staff and regional employees face a much more uncertain future.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) has already begun weighing in on the collapse, with some officials pointing toward broader economic pressures and administration policies as contributing factors to the airline’s demise.

For those currently holding Spirit Airlines tickets, the outlook is grim. Passengers are being advised to:
Contact their credit card companies: Pursuing a chargeback for services not rendered is likely the fastest way to recover funds.
Check with competing airlines: Some carriers may offer discounted rates for stranded passengers on a standby basis.
Monitor DOT communications: The Department of Transportation is expected to release further guidance on consumer protections and potential refund processes.

As the yellow planes remain parked on tarmacs nationwide, the fallout from Spirit’s departure marks one of the most significant domestic airline failures in recent history, signaling a major shift in the low-cost travel landscape.

Kandi Burruss Reportedly Opens Up About Todd Tucker Cheating On Her
Kandi Burruss is turning heartbreak into headline moments, using the stage to address her split from Todd Tucker. During her one-woman show, I Do. I Did. I’m Done!, at City Winery Atlanta on April 27, Burruss laid out her side of the story with striking clarity.
The former The Real Housewives of Atlanta star did not hold back. She told the audience she uncovered text messages in July 2025 that confirmed infidelity. Still, she made it clear that cheating alone did not end the marriage.

The turning point came after the confrontation. Burruss said Tucker responded with indifference, brushing it off as something she would “deal with.” That reaction, she explained, sealed her decision to walk away.
Leading up to the performance, Burruss teased the show online with a blunt message. “My man’s been cheating on me!” she wrote, fueling buzz that translated into sold-out dates. The venue enforced a strict no-phone policy, leaving fans to rely on firsthand accounts rather than viral clips.

Onstage, Burruss leaned into symbolism. She opened in a white wedding dress, then shed it mid-show to reveal a sleek white outfit.
Fans described the moment as a visual break from marriage into independence. Costume changes continued, including a red look that underscored the show’s emotional intensity.

The production blended music with storytelling, echoing the tone of her Kandi Koated Nights platform. She also performed “My Man Cheated on Me,” anchoring the narrative in her music.

Rapper Nelly Avoids Conviction Following Plea Deal in Casino Assault Incident

Nelly left a Missouri courtroom this week with an assault charge dismissed, closing a case that stretched nearly nine months. The case grew out of a casino dispute.
The ruling, issued on April 29, ended legal proceedings tied to his July 2025 arrest at Ameristar Casino. There, an encounter with security staff set off a chain of competing accounts and formal complaints. Prosecutors ultimately agreed to drop the misdemeanor charge. This resolved a matter that had moved between investigators, attorneys, and court filings for much of the year. In place of the more serious allegation, Nelly accepted responsibility for a minor violation and paid a $750 fine.

The underlying incident began when a security guard asked to verify his player card before granting access to a restricted area of the casino. His representatives described the guard’s conduct as escalating quickly. They said he physically obstructed the rapper and entered his personal space in a way they viewed as unnecessary. Furthermore, they argued that Nelly responded briefly by moving the guard aside. They insisted the contact was limited and did not result in injury.

Video footage from the casino later became central to internal reviews of the encounter. Management acknowledged concerns about how the situation was handled and issued an apology regarding the guard’s actions. However, they also indicated that Nelly would be welcome back at the venue. Law enforcement officers who responded to the initial complaint in July 2025 documented a different account. They reported that the guard said he had been shoved during the exchange.

By September 2025, prosecutors had filed a misdemeanor assault charge. This step prompted Nelly’s representatives to dispute the allegation publicly. In the meantime, reporting from TMZ indicated that negotiations continued quietly in the background. Both sides weighed a resolution outside of trial.
The agreement reached this week brings that process to a close. It also leaves Nelly without a criminal conviction in the matter. Thus, it concludes a dispute he and his legal team had consistently challenged from the start.

Maverick City Music Blocks Co-Founder’s New Worship Project Amid Lawsuit
Maverick City Music has successfully obtained a court order preventing its estranged co-founder from releasing new worship music as part of an ongoing legal dispute. On April 29, 2024, a New York judge granted a preliminary injunction against Tony Brown, who sold his shares in the Grammy-winning group to current CEO Norman Gyamfi in 2023 for $5 million.

The legal battle centers on allegations that Brown violated a non-compete clause by launching a rival Christian music collective called God Aura after his exit from Maverick City Music. Gyamfi claims Brown’s new project directly competes with the original collective, prompting the court to temporarily halt Brown’s ability to release new music during the lawsuit.

Brown disputes the enforceability of the non-compete clause and challenges the terms of his buyout agreement, asserting that he has been underpaid by approximately $2 million. Judge Nancy M. Bannon ruled that the validity of the contract remains unresolved and will depend on forthcoming evidence. Until a final decision is reached, Brown is barred from releasing music, including God Aura’s album Wonderful Child, which must be removed from streaming platforms as part of the injunction.

The dispute will now move into the discovery phase, where both parties exchange evidence to support their claims. Steven Cooper, a lawyer representing Maverick City Music, expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, stating that his clients are "very pleased that the court shut down Anthony Brown’s improper competitive activities." Cooper further accused Brown of attempting to avoid the hearing and said that Norman Gyamfi and his companies will aggressively pursue any contract violations or wrongdoing.

Maverick City Music was co-founded by Brown and Jonathan Jay in 2018 in Atlanta. The collective has gained significant recognition, winning five Grammy Awards and topping Billboard’s Christian and gospel music charts. Notable members and collaborators include Chandler Moore, Naomi Raine, and Brandon Lake.

Gyamfi became a part-owner and executive of Maverick City Music around 2021, contributing to the group’s growth before buying out Brown’s shares. Brown alleges that Gyamfi failed to complete all payments due to him, citing unproven sexual harassment allegations against Brown as a factor.

Initially, Brown filed his lawsuit in Georgia, but it was transferred to New York in February 2024 due to a forum selection clause in the buyout agreement. An Atlanta judge previously rejected Brown’s claim that he signed the buyout under coercion from Louis Burrell, a music industry veteran and brother of MC Hammer.

Meanwhile, Maverick City Music faces separate litigation following Chandler Moore’s recent departure. Moore has accused Gyamfi of withholding royalties, which the group denies, stating Moore did not fulfill his contractual obligations before leaving. Similar to the Brown case, Maverick City Music sought to block Moore from releasing solo music during the dispute but was unsuccessful. Moore has since been cleared to pursue a solo career.

This series of legal challenges highlights ongoing tensions within Maverick City Music as the group navigates internal conflicts and contractual disputes while maintaining its status as a leading force in contemporary worship music.

Nicki Minaj Shunned From 2026 Met Gala For Embracing MAGA & Ties To Trump

Nicki Minaj’s eight-year Met Gala reign ends as she’s shut out over her MAGA political activism and Trump alliance.
Nicki Minaj won’t be walking the Met Gala carpet in 2026, and her absence marks a dramatic shift from her eight-year reign as one of fashion’s most anticipated arrivals.

The Queen rapper has been effectively shut out of the prestigious event following her vocal embrace of MAGA politics, a complete reversal from her previous appearances that once defined her as a fashion fixture in New York’s most exclusive circles.
For over a decade, Nicki commanded the Met Gala stage with unforgettable looks and moments.
Nicki Minaj first arrived in 2013 wearing Tommy Hilfiger, and her subsequent appearances became legendary in fashion history.
Her 2025 appearance, just months before the 2026 snub, saw her reflecting on what she called a “proud period” that inspired her custom Thom Browne look.

That was her last invitation. According to Cosmopolitan, insiders revealed that “Nicki’s invitations didn’t just slow down—they vanished. Hollywood stopped returning her calls. This isn’t subtle anymore. She’s been shut out.”
The timing isn’t coincidental. Nicki’s political transformation accelerated dramatically throughout 2025 and into 2026.

She spoke at AmericaFest in December 2025, describing Donald Trump as “dashing” and JD Vance as an “assassin.”
By January 2026, she was appearing at Trump Accounts summits, declaring she wouldn’t flip her political views.
Her social media became a megaphone for MAGA messaging, urging followers to reject Democratic candidates while calling them “demoncrats.”

The contrast couldn’t be starker. In 2018, Nicki had condemned Trump’s family-separation policy, sharing her own background as an undocumented immigrant.
Now she’s become his most visible celebrity ally, with her political pivot reportedly influencing her fanbase to switch to the Republican Party.
The Met Gala’s gatekeepers, traditionally protective of the event’s cultural neutrality, apparently decided her political alignment conflicted with the institution’s values.

The 2026 Met Gala will proceed on Monday (May 4) without her, marking the first time in over a decade that Nicki won’t be part of the conversation.

Cardi B Steps Out to Support Megan Thee Stallion at Final ‘Moulin Rouge’ Performance on Broadway

Cardi B is showing her support for her good friend Megan Thee Stallion.
The 33-year-old “Bodak Yellow” rapper was seen arriving at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre to support the 31-year-old “Savage” rapper in her final performance in the Tony-winning Broadway show Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Friday night (May 1) in New York City.

For the show, Cardi wore a white top with black leather pants and heels while carrying a seafoam green bag.
After the show, Megan showed off some skin in a red and pink dress as she left the theater.

If you didn’t see the news, Megan announced at the beginning of the week that she was leaving her stint in the Broadway musical earlier that expected following health woes and her breakup fro boyfriend Klay Thompson.
Originally, Megan was supposed to play the role of “Harold Zidler” in Moulin Rouge! through May 17, so she left her stint two weeks early.

Here’s a synopsis of the show: “Baz Luhrmann’s iconic film comes to life onstage, remixed in a new musical mash-up extravaganza. Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a theatrical celebration of Truth, Beauty, Freedom, and – above all – Love. Moulin Rouge! The Musical is more than a musical; it is a state of mind. As in the film, Moulin Rouge! The Musical celebrates over 160 years of music – from Offenbach to Lady Gaga. The stage musical features many of the iconic songs from the movie and also includes recent hits released since the movie premiered 25 years ago.”

The Broadway production will be ending on July 26, 2026.

Caitlin Clark to Publish Children’s Picture Book This Fall
WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark is adding author to her impressive resume. Random House Books for Young Readers announced Tuesday that Clark will release a picture book titled EXTRAordinary! A Little EXTRA to Reach BIG Dreams on November 3, 2026.

According to The AP, the book, written in rhyming verse and illustrated by Adriana Predoi, is inspired by Clark’s personal journey and a meaningful inscription that hung in her childhood bedroom: “The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is the little EXTRA.” The 24-year-old Indiana Fever guard aims to share a message about the power of hard work and the importance of having a strong support system.

“Basketball has given me so many incredible opportunities, but what has always meant the most to me are the people who’ve supported me along the way,” Clark said in a statement. She expressed hope that the book reminds children they are never alone as they chase their dreams.

Arrest Made After Shooting Outside Chris Brown’s LA Home

Chaos erupted in a quiet Tarzana neighborhood Friday afternoon after a report of shots fired right outside Chris Brown’s home. Police were called to the scene around 4 PM following a 911 call from a woman who claimed her car had been targeted by a shooter.

According to TMZ, the incident stemmed from a heated argument between the woman and a 35-year-old man. The man told officers that the woman refused to leave the area, and the situation turned violent when she allegedly ran over his foot with her car. In response, the man reportedly opened fire on her vehicle.

When authorities arrived, they didn’t hesitate on making an arrest, taking the man into custody right there on the street. He is currently facing charges for assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism. Police noted that while the incident happened right at the address, the shooting took place on the public road rather than on the singer’s actual private property.

It’s still unclear whether Breezy was actually inside the house while this was going down. It’s also unclear if the people involved in the dispute even know him or if they were just random individuals caught in a shootout near his gates.

Pras Michel Begins 14 Year Prison Sentence in Arizona
Fugees member Pras Michel has officially reported to the Federal Correctional Institution in Safford, Arizona, to begin serving a 14-year prison sentence. The Grammy-winning artist surrendered to authorities on April 30, 2026, following several delays granted by a federal judge earlier this year.

Michel was convicted in 2023 on multiple counts, including money laundering, illegal lobbying, and campaign finance violations. According to Rolling Stone, prosecutors successfully argued that Michel acted as an unregistered agent of the People’s Republic of China and used funds from fugitive Malaysian financier Low Taek Jho to illegally influence the United States government.

“Today is a painful day for Pras, for his family, and for everyone who believes in a fair system of justice,” his spokesperson, Erica Dumas, said in a statement. Dumas noted that Michel spent his final days of freedom with family, maintaining his vegan lifestyle and avoiding the spotlight, though he was recently seen at a Kanye West concert in Los Angeles.

Despite reporting to prison, Michel’s legal team continues to vigorously contest the conviction. His attorneys believe that the FARA-related charges were based on a violation of his rights and are currently in the early stages of a complicated appeal process. Michel previously performed on a 2023 reunion tour with the Fugees, though he later distanced himself from bandmates Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean, even filing a lawsuit against Hill that was dropped this past March.
