#RHOA: K. Michelle Talks to People Mag about what Surprised Her Most About Joining the Show
K. Michelle manifested being a part of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.
The reality star, 44, entered the world of the Housewives when she became a core cast member in season 17 of the hit Bravo series, which premiered on April 5. It marked K. Michelle's return to reality TV, after the singer previously starred on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta and her own series, K. Michelle: My Life.
“I have said from day one, even when I was on Love & Hip Hop years ago, I said when I got at a certain point in my career, a certain age or whatever, if I [were] to ever return to reality TV in an ensemble cast, I would not do it any other way other than Real Housewives of Atlanta," K. Michelle tells PEOPLE.
The reason she had her sights set on RHOA was for the culture and the authenticity she saw among the women.
“When it came to me being on Love & Hip Hop, that was about culture,” K. Michelle explains. “I watched how the ladies of Real Housewives of Atlanta were able to expand their brands and do endorsements and things, and they weren't judged for it, and they were just them[selves].”
Being a part of the franchise was always a dream of hers, and K. Michelle says she manifested her casting. Five years ago, she messaged executive producer Andy Cohen saying, “I will be on Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
“He didn't say nothing [sic] back to me,” K. Michelle says. “It didn't even say 'read', if he even saw it. But I put it out there, and for me and my career, everything I said I was going to do, I do.”
After filming the first season, K. Michelle says she was most surprised to discover that there are people “crazier” than her. “Like the Morgan Wallen song, ‘I'm a little crazy, but the world's insane,' that's how Real Housewives of Atlanta is.”
As a newcomer on the show, the TV personality says she came into this new season with a lot of nerves. “I knew that I was entering a space that there were a lot of big personalities,” she explains. “And I knew that when you have big personalities, everybody's not going to get along.”
“So I was prepared for that,” K. Michelle adds. “I just didn't know how it would turn, how it would sway, but I knew it was going to happen.”
Giving voice to her truth and standing up for herself, K. Michelle says, has helped her navigate conflicts. “I understand in this show we got to get our ratings and we have to do all of that, but reality stays real,” she notes. “And for me, I've done this for years, I'm not a rookie, and the one thing that has always worked for me is, even in my wrong, I stand in my wrong. Even in my right, I stand in my right.”
K. Michelle adds, “I'm not perfect, but I'm honest. I'm real.”
“You're not going to yo-yo me, and you're not going to produce me,” she continues. “I'm going to act out when I want to. I'm going to have way too many drinks sometimes and sometimes I'm not going to have enough.”
The singer, along with fellow newcomer Pinky Cole, joined RHOA stars Porsha Williams, Phaedra Parks, Drew Sidora, Shamea Morton Mwangi, Angela Oakley, Kelli Ferrell and "friend" Cynthia Bailey for season 17.

Phaedra and Kelli, she reveals, are her closest friends on the show. K. Michelle says she loves her late-night calls with Phaedra, because they always “crack a joke and have a good time.”
And Kelli is the Housewife she trusts the most. “Her personality and her belief in who she is and how she acts is something I enjoy to watch,” K. Michelle says. “I know [out of] anybody on that cast, if I can tell them a secret, it's going to be Kelly.”

Speaking of right-wing spaces, Nicki Minaj, who has recently drawn fire for her support of the current United States administration, took to Twitter to wish Musk a happy 55th birthday.
"Thank you for saving free speech, Elon. Happy Birthday. Love always. From Gag City & the Barbz!" she wrote earlier today (Sunday, June 28). Nicki also featured a picture of her with the SpaceX tycoon, which some fans theorized may be AI.
Nicki Minaj has previously praised Elon Musk, paying a visit to his Starbase facility in Texas for a SpaceX Starship launch event. "Major shoutout to Elon. Thank you for everything that you’re doing for humanity," she said during the visit.
While some folks immediately connected this to Minaj's embrace of Donald Trump, it's important to note how Trump and Elon have an on-and-off-again dynamic. So maybe her support of Musk has nothing to do with her right-wing pivots. Still, some Barbz would rather not see trillionaire endorsements, especially given their Queen's criticisms of folks like Jay-Z.
Regardless, it's clear Minaj won't back down from her support of the right side of the U.S. political aisle. It already landed her in a lot of hot water, but most of the backlash from former hardcore fans seems to have settled into acceptance and moving on.

Tony Brown spent decades demanding that America confront difficult conversations while creating opportunities for generations of Black journalists. Now the pioneering broadcaster, educator and civil rights advocate has died.
His passing has left behind one of the most influential, enduring legacies in American media. Brown died peacefully June 17 at his home in Virginia. He was 93.
For more than four decades, Brown used television, radio, higher education and publishing to elevate Black voices at a time when they were routinely overlooked by mainstream media. His work blended journalism with advocacy, emphasizing education, economic empowerment and personal responsibility. He also documented pivotal moments in Black history along the way.
Born William Anthony Brown in Charleston, West Virginia, he attended Garnet High School, an all-Black institution where he excelled in academics, drama and athletics. His love for communication emerged early, including performances from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar on Charleston radio before graduating in 1951.
After serving in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, Brown earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Wayne State University. His studies in sociology, psychology and psychiatric social work fueled a lifelong interest in addressing poverty and strengthening African American communities.
His journalism career began in 1962 at the Detroit Courier, where he quickly advanced from drama critic to editor before transitioning into public television. At Detroit’s WTVS, Brown produced Colored People’s Time and Free Play, programs created to address issues affecting Black audiences.
Brown’s influence expanded nationally in 1970 when he became executive producer and host of Black Journal. The program mixed investigative reporting, documentaries and commentary while tackling race, politics and economic inequality. His uncompromising editorial style often drew criticism, but it also earned widespread respect for refusing to shy away from controversial issues.
After public broadcasting funding for Black Journal became the center of a national dispute, Brown secured commercial sponsorship through Pepsi-Cola in 1977 and relaunched the series as Tony Brown’s Journal. The program eventually returned to public television, where it remained on the air until 2008.
During its remarkable run, Tony Brown’s Journal became the longest-running series in PBS history. The Emmy-nominated program received the 1991 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News, Talk or Information Series/Special and was recognized by the New York Daily News as one of television’s greatest programs for its presentation of positive Black images.
Brown’s impact stretched well beyond broadcasting.
He founded Howard University’s School of Communications in 1971 and later served as dean before returning to academia decades later as the inaugural dean of Hampton University’s Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications. His efforts helped shape countless journalists while strengthening historically Black colleges and universities through initiatives such as Black College Day, which Congress later recognized by designating the last Monday in September as the official observance.
His activism also reached beyond classrooms and television studios. Brown coordinated a massive Detroit civil rights march in 1963 featuring the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The demonstration reportedly drew hundreds of thousands of participants and is widely associated with one of King’s earliest public deliveries of portions of his historic “I Have a Dream” address.
A prolific author and nationally syndicated columnist, Brown published works including Black Lies, White Lies: The Truth According to Tony Brown, Empower the People and What Mama Taught Me. Through books, lectures and radio programs, he consistently encouraged economic independence, education and what he called “self-help.”
His accomplishments earned numerous honors, including the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Silver Circle, induction into the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame and recognition as one of America’s most influential talk radio personalities by Talkers magazine.
Brown preserved decades of interviews, documentaries and commentary through an extensive digital archive, even after retiring from television. He freely gave an unmatched historical record of Black life, leadership and culture.

Cable and Media Giant Comcast split sends its shares to 17-year highs
Comcast spent decades assembling one of the most powerful media and cable empires in the country. This morning, it announced plans to split it in half.
The company said it will separate into two publicly traded companies through a tax-free spinoff of NBCUniversal and Sky. Shares surged nearly 20% in premarket trading, a move that would represent Comcast’s largest single-day percentage gain since 2008 if those gains held through the session. The transaction is expected to close in roughly one year. When it does, Comcast shareholders will receive stock in both companies.
The spun-off NBCUniversal will include Universal’s theme parks and film and television studios, the NBC and Telemundo broadcast networks, the Peacock streaming service, the Bravo cable network, and Sky, the European media business. Both entities are intended to maintain investment-grade balance sheets, and the new NBCUniversal will carry the same dual-class share structure that the company currently operates under.
The remaining Comcast will anchor itself in core infrastructure, covering broadband, wireless, and entertainment platforms that serve more than 65 million homes and businesses across the country. The company plans to hold a stake of up to 19.9% in NBCUniversal for up to one year after the spinoff closes, with plans to sell that position over time through a tax-efficient approach.
Brian L. Roberts, currently Comcast’s chairman and co-chief executive, will remain engaged in the leadership of both businesses after the split. Mike Cavanagh, who has served alongside Roberts as co-CEO, will take the top role at the new NBCUniversal. Michael Angelakis, a former Comcast chief financial officer, will become CEO of the remaining broadband-focused Comcast once the transaction closes. He will join the company as a strategic adviser in the period leading up to completion.
The announcement reflects sustained pressure across the media industry. Years of cord-cutting have eroded the traditional cable bundle that long anchored Comcast’s revenue. On the broadband side, the company has been losing subscribers to fixed wireless competitors including T-Mobile and Verizon, alongside fiber operators expanding across the country.
The broader industry backdrop adds weight to the decision. The planned $110 billion deal between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery is shifting the competitive picture for studios and streaming services. Separating the two businesses lets each operate on its own terms. NFL’s Chris Johnson Diagnosed with ALS at 39, Uses Device to Help Him Speak & Reveals How Eric Dane’s ‘GMA’ Interview Helped Him
Chris Johnson, a former star running back for the Tennessee Titans in the NFL, has been diagnosed with ALS.
“There’s no history of ALS in my family,” Chris shared on GMA on Monday (June 29). “That’s one of the reasons this disease can be so shocking. It can happen to someone who never expected it.”
About his first symptom, he shared, “I first noticed weakness in my right hand. At first, it was little things like my grip didn’t feel right and I wasn’t as strong as I’ve always been.”
His wife Brittany Johnson shared, “I thought because of football and, you know, his career, that it had to be something with that. Maybe … a pinched nerve or something along those lines, but never ALS.”
He revealed his reaction to receiving the diagnosis
“Honestly, I don’t know if you ever fully process it. At first, you’re in shock. Then you realize you have two choices. You can give up, or you can fight. I chose to fight.”
He reached out to Eric Dane’s doctor after seeing them on GMA
Last year, Eric Dane sat down for an interview about the disease with his doctor, Dr. Merit Cudkowicz, a neurologist and ALS researcher.
“After watching ‘Good Morning America’ and seeing Dr. Merit with Eric Dane, we reached out to her. She was willing to think more creatively, offering experimental treatments that might help and advance research,” he said.
He continued, “We’ve been with her ever since, and that changed the course of our fight.”
Eric tragically died earlier this year after battling the condition.
Chris Johnson’s disease has progressed rapidly and he now uses a device to speak
“It’s continued to progress much faster than I ever imagined. I want people to understand just how quickly ALS can attack your body. Just over a year ago, I was picking up my 7-year-old daughter so she’d make a wish with her birthday cake. Today, I couldn’t do that.”
“I can’t even hold a cup if I try, and that’s despite being diagnosed relatively early and doing everything we can, including participating in multiple experimental treatments. That’s why early detection, more research, and better treatments are so important. We have to give people a better chance than what’s available today,” he shared.
The Mayo Clinic notes that ALS is “a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS causes loss of muscle control. The disease gets worse over time.”

Chris Johnson, a former star running back for the Tennessee Titans in the NFL, has been diagnosed with ALS.
“There’s no history of ALS in my family,” Chris shared on GMA on Monday (June 29). “That’s one of the reasons this disease can be so shocking. It can happen to someone who never expected it.”
About his first symptom, he shared, “I first noticed weakness in my right hand. At first, it was little things like my grip didn’t feel right and I wasn’t as strong as I’ve always been.”
His wife Brittany Johnson shared, “I thought because of football and, you know, his career, that it had to be something with that. Maybe … a pinched nerve or something along those lines, but never ALS.”
He revealed his reaction to receiving the diagnosis
“Honestly, I don’t know if you ever fully process it. At first, you’re in shock. Then you realize you have two choices. You can give up, or you can fight. I chose to fight.”
He reached out to Eric Dane’s doctor after seeing them on GMA
Last year, Eric Dane sat down for an interview about the disease with his doctor, Dr. Merit Cudkowicz, a neurologist and ALS researcher.
“After watching ‘Good Morning America’ and seeing Dr. Merit with Eric Dane, we reached out to her. She was willing to think more creatively, offering experimental treatments that might help and advance research,” he said.
He continued, “We’ve been with her ever since, and that changed the course of our fight.”
Eric tragically died earlier this year after battling the condition.

“It’s continued to progress much faster than I ever imagined. I want people to understand just how quickly ALS can attack your body. Just over a year ago, I was picking up my 7-year-old daughter so she’d make a wish with her birthday cake. Today, I couldn’t do that.”
“I can’t even hold a cup if I try, and that’s despite being diagnosed relatively early and doing everything we can, including participating in multiple experimental treatments. That’s why early detection, more research, and better treatments are so important. We have to give people a better chance than what’s available today,” he shared.
The Mayo Clinic notes that ALS is “a nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. ALS causes loss of muscle control. The disease gets worse over time.”

Alannah Keyser Speaks Out After She’s Removed From ‘Love Island USA’ Following Racial Slur Video
Alannah Keyser is breaking her silence following her exit from Love Island USA.
Earlier this week, Alannah was removed from season 8 of the Peacock dating reality show after past videos and social media comments surfaced of her using the n-word.
In a video posted to TikTok on Saturday (June 27), Alannah addressed the controversy and apologized for her past comments.
“I’m coming on here to address some things that have been circulating online,” Alannah said. “I do want to begin by addressing the video of me singing along to a Roddy Ricch song that contains a racial slur. I’m sorry to whoever has seen that video and has been offended by it, that was never my intention. The video is from six years ago, and that word is just not in my vocabulary anymore.”
She continued, “I do want to say directly that I do not support racism or discrimination of any kind, and I never have. When I first found out that these things were going around online, it really broke my heart, and I couldn’t do anything about it.
“But this has definitely been a learning lesson for me, and it sucks that I didn’t get a chance to really show my personality and who I am,” Alannah added.

Zaire Wade Arrested on Suspicion of Felony Domestic Violence in Burbank
Zaire Wade, the eldest son of NBA legend Dwyane Wade, was arrested in Burbank, California, on suspicion of felony domestic violence after police responded to an early morning 911 call reporting a woman screaming inside a home.
According to TMZ and NBC Los Angeles, the 24-year-old former professional basketball player was booked by the Burbank Police Department on suspicion of felony domestic violence, criminal threats, and false imprisonment. An emergency protective order was also issued.
NBC Los Angeles reported that officers were dispatched to a residence around 5:30 a.m. after a caller reported hearing a woman screaming.
Law enforcement sources told the station that officers found Wade and a woman at the home. The woman allegedly had lacerations to her face and body. Paramedics responded to the scene, but she was not transported to a hospital.
Authorities also recovered a handgun from the residence following the arrest. Wade later posted a $50,000 bond and was released the same day.
The Burbank Police Department’s public arrest log lists Zaire Blessing Wade’s arrest date as June 21 (2026) and identifies the reported offenses as felony domestic violence, criminal threats, and false imprisonment with violence, fraud or deceit.
The incident summary also references attempted murder. However, attempted murder does not appear among the publicly listed booking charges in the same arrest entry.
The case is expected to be forwarded to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether formal criminal charges will be filed.
As the oldest son of Dwyane Wade, Zaire Wade has spent much of his life in the public eye.
He played high school basketball at Sierra Canyon School in California alongside Bronny James before pursuing a professional career rather than playing college basketball.
Wade later suited up for the Salt Lake City Stars in the NBA G League before signing with the Cape Town Tigers of the Basketball Africa League. ESPN previously reported that he averaged 4.6 points and 1.9 assists during his G League tenure before continuing his career overseas.
As of publication, Wade has not publicly commented on the arrest.
He has not been convicted of any crime, and the allegations remain under investigation pending any decision by prosecutors.
