Marlon Wayans Is Comedy Royalty. His Next Move May Shock You. The actor and his siblings are comic pioneers: In Living Color, Scary Movie, and yes, White Chicks. Now he'll terrify you in Jordan Peele's upcoming project HIM.
Marlon Wayans has done comedy, drama, horror, comedy-horror, drama-parody, and whiteface. He’s stepped out of the shadow of perhaps the most famous family in American comedy while still working with them. Now he’s the star of the Jordan Peele–produced movie HIM. After nearly thirty years of steady, often wildly popular work, 2025 might be the year of Marlon Wayans. So how did he get here, now? “I don’t know, man,” he says. “I just work hard.”
HIM is the story of Cameron Cade (Tyriq Withers), a young man raised on football, now in the position of replacing his idol, the legendary quarterback Isaiah “Ze” White. In a desert training facility that evokes an Equinox built into James Turrell’s Roden Crater, the two test their bodies, bare their souls, and maybe go to literal hell. HIM is Any Given Sunday multiplied by Satan, powered by what would have happened if Walter and Jesse on Breaking Bad had turned their attention to creatine.
“I saw a cut the other day,” Wayans says, “and my manager told me: ‘That performance is unhinged.’” This assessment is right on the money.
Marlon’s explosive, layered work as Ze is the movie’s rapidly beating heart. Ze is a god contemplating mortality; Marlon shows you all the shades. “You feel bad for the guy a little bit, and he’s doing crazy things, and he’s jealous and insecure, and he’s got a sense of humor.” Whether Ze is the villain is up to you to decide. “I just know I worked my ass off and left blood on the dance floor every day.”
Much of that work by the formerly (and famously) scrawny Wayans happened in the gym. He put on around twenty pounds of muscle to play Ze, not an easy thing for a man to do in his fifties. “Coming out of quarantine, I had that belly, like everyone,” he says. He hired a trainer, who immediately got to work transforming Marlon’s house. “I had a room in the back, and he said ‘What’s this?’ I said, ‘An office.’ He said, ‘No, we’re changing this, it’s a meditation room.’ ” Which now it is, replete with red-light therapy bed. The trainer never let him rest, kept him moving, and Marlon ate it up. “It was me owning the character, doing the work it takes to be great.”
Like the characters at the center of HIM, Marlon, fifty-three, was raised in a family that expected success. In 1990, his older brother Keenen Ivory Wayans created, produced, and starred in the seminal Fox comedy show In Living Color, remembered as much for its alumni as its sketches. “Keenen is a legendary man,” Marlon says, “and we’ve all been so blessed to have had his tutelage in terms of mentality. I remember J. Lo—she was a Fly Girl on the show—and he said, ‘No, you’re more than a dancer—you’re a brand.’ Jim Carrey was a funny guy nobody believed in. Keenen said, ‘You’re a movie star.’ ”
Keenen brought some of his Wayans siblings into the show: sister Kim, brother Damon, and later the youngest boys, Shawn and Marlon, stepped up to join the main cast. “We were known as the little brothers on his coattails, and he said, ‘You’re Black men in this industry, and if you want to make it, you have to be an unstoppable, undeniable force of nature. Learn to be writers, learn how to sell your own things, do it all.’ ”
After In Living Color, Shawn and Marlon created, produced, and starred in the WB sitcom The Wayans Bros., then the Scream-eviscerating Scary Movie franchise, and then, of course, White Chicks. “Oh man, when we did that movie, it got panned, we got killed.” He smiles. “And now, twenty years later, it’s a classic.”
Even when Wayans was working on all these broad comedies, he was testing his limits. He was in White Chicks in 2004 but that same year worked with the Coen brothers on The Ladykillers. After giving the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise the Scary Movie treatment in 2016 (Fifty Shades of Black, naturally), he played Aretha Franklin’s abusive husband in the biopic Respect. But his performance in Darren Aronofsky’s 2000 Requiem for a Dream is still a heartbreaking standout. “I had to audition five, six times for Darren to really see me as Tyrone,” says Wayans. “But I’m not just this crazy, funny physical actor from the WB—I’m theatrically trained. Comedy was just something I was born in.”
“I’m just a doer. I don’t spend my time to strategize. I just work so hard, and I work to just be . . . me.”
Upending other people’s expectations about him fuels Wayans. “I’ve always wanted to have a career where they go ‘What do you do with a guy who can do everything?” he says. “Where you trust him and believe him in whatever role you put him in, whether it’s slapstick comedy, or something like Requiem, or like HIM.”
Now, for a huge percentage of HIM’s target audience, Marlon won’t have the comedy baggage he had in 2000. Many won’t know about his stand-up or his producing or his famous family. HIM will be an introduction to Marlon Wayans. He’s not overthinking it. “I’m just a doer. I don’t spend my time to strategize. I just work so hard, and I work to just be . . .” he pauses, thinks about it. “Me.”
And if this younger generation does not know broad-comedy Marlon Wayans, they will soon learn. He and Shawn have wrested back control of the Scary Movie franchise, and a sixth installment will drop next summer. In the meantime, he stays on the road as a stand-up. Older brother Keenen is now semiretired and wants to hang out a bit more, but Marlon took the notes too well. “He’s like, ‘Why you got a show on a holiday weekend?’ And I’m like ‘Ain’t no holidays, brother.’

The Aug. 9 episode kicked off with Nene’s former castmate Porsha Williams welcoming her into her home to help pack for the iconic cross-country vacation.
"The last time we saw NeNe was season 12," Porsha recounted in a confessional. "That was the reunion during the pandemic and she did the close of the laptop."
While the former frenemies had plenty of life updates to catch up on, the first topic of business on NeNe's list was Porsha's romance with Patrice "Sway" McKinney.
"You swimming in the lady pond!" Nene teased Porsha. "Porsha, you gotta tell me about this."
Porsha—mom to 7-year-old daughter Pilar with ex Dennis McKinley—then recounted her and Sway's meet-cute.
"It was just casual texting and all of a sudden there's this event that came up," the 45-year-old shared. "I was like, 'Hey you wanna go?"
"Girl, ever since then we are..." Porsha added before NeNe finished her sentence with, "Full-blown!"
While surprised, NeNe noted, "As long as you're happy, that's the only thing that matters."
As their reunion continued, Porsha detailed the group's travel itinerary to iconic Housewives locations, including Orange County, Beverly Hills, Miami, New York City and more.
"How dare we celebrate 20 years as Housewives and leave out the NeNe Leakes?" The Traitors alum posited in a confessional. "So, the queen herself will be making an appearance when we enter Atlanta."
And while NeNe's return was certainly special for Porsha, it's equally monumental for fans given she walked away from the franchise on not-so-friendly terms.
As Porsha told the Glee actress, "For you to come back after all this time for the 20th anniversary is huge," to which NeNe agreed, "It's huge."

The strategic partnership reunites Cox with the vocal group nearly two decades after he helped architect the sound of their chart-topping early projects.
Cox played an integral role in Day26’s early musical development, heavily contributing to both their 2008 self-titled debut and their 2009 sophomore album, Forever in a Day. The newly announced partnership aims to build upon that established foundation while pushing the group’s sound into a modern era.
“Day26 and I have a history that goes back to the beginning of their career, so this partnership is a full circle moment,” Cox shared in a statement. “I have always believed in their talent, their chemistry and what they represent for R&B groups. We now have an opportunity to build on the foundation we created together while introducing a new chapter that reflects who they are today.”
The members of Day26 echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the creative shorthand they share with the legendary producer:

The album’s third single, “MVP,” recently debuted at No. 29 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart, and Freeman is actively preparing to release the first single from his next musical chapter.
The signing announcement arrives during a remarkably busy season for Cox. He recently extended his longstanding, 27-year partnership with SESAC. Throughout his tenure with the performing rights organization, Cox has been named SESAC Songwriter of the Year six times and was honored with the SESAC Icon Award in 2022 for his sustained creative excellence.

“‘Album done’ … Fake news,” Roc Nation wrote in a post to the company’s Instagram Story on Monday (Aug. 10).
The Roc appeared to be responding to Ray Daniels’ claims made on a recent episode of the producer’s Ray Daniels Presents podcast.
“His album is done,” Daniels confidently stated of Hov’s 4:44 follow-up. “It’s completely done. We might get it if somebody partners with him. If nobody partners with him, it’s not coming. He is not playing about his brand. Somebody called and confirmed it for me.”
While Daniels never worked for Roc-A-Fella, he’s held prominent executive positions at Warner, Universal, Interscope and Epic Records throughout his career. He previously had Roc-A-Fella co-founder Dame Dash and Roc affiliate Choke No Joke as guests on his The GAUDS Show.
Fans had been hopeful to receive Jay’s first solo album since 2017, with Jay back outside this year. The Brooklyn rap legend returned to the stage in May at Roots Picnic and then headlined three straight nights at Yankee Stadium in July.
Jay’s 30th anniversary of his Reasonable Doubt debut will continue with shows in London (Sept. 4-5), Paris (Sept. 10) and Los Angeles (Oct. 23-24) for the rest of the year.

OnlyFans Model Courtney Clenney Sentenced to 6 Years in Fatal Stabbing of Boyfriend
Former OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney has formally accepted a plea agreement in the April 2022 fatal stabbing of her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli, concluding a four-year legal saga that captured national attention.
Appearing before a Miami-Dade judge on Monday, August 10, the 30-year-old internet personality—known online as Courtney Tailor—pleaded guilty to manslaughter with a deadly weapon. The plea downgraded her original charge of second-degree murder.
Under the terms of the agreement, Clenney was sentenced to six years in prison (with credit for time served since her August 2022 arrest), followed by five years of probation.
Beyond her prison sentence and mandatory probation, the court placed strict conditions on Clenney following her release:
Mandatory Evaluations & Treatment: She must undergo comprehensive mental health and substance abuse evaluations and complete all recommended treatment programs.
Financial Ban: Clenney is legally barred from profiting financially from the case, prohibiting her from monetizing media interviews, book deals, or entertainment projects related to Obumseli’s death.

The White House order places hepatitis A, hepatitis B, meningococcal vaccines, dengue protection and RSV monoclonal antibodies in a category for certain higher risk populations. Hepatitis A, hepatitis B, rotavirus, meningococcal disease, influenza and COVID 19 are also listed under shared clinical decision making.

In those times, people were much healthier and of course, the high rates of autism now observed did not exist. So, there’s a reason for such epidemic rates of autism. And we’re going to bring it back to much closer to where it was.”
Existing research does not support a causal link between MMR vaccination and autism. A 2015 study indexed by the National Library of Medicine examined more than 95,000 children and found no association between MMR vaccination and increased autism risk, including among children with an older sibling with autism. CBS News also cited a large 2019 Danish study involving more than 650,000 children that reached a similar conclusion.
Medical groups are also challenging the federal government’s narrower approach. The American Academy of Pediatrics continues to recommend routine vaccination against 18 diseases in its 2026 childhood immunization schedule, rather than limiting its universal recommendations to the 11 diseases included in the new federal framework. The organization has argued that vaccine schedules cannot be copied directly from other nations because countries face different disease risks, demographics, health care systems and vaccine availability.
Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy, who is also a physician, offered one of the strongest political rebukes of the Trump vaccine plan. According to CBS News, Cassidy said, “I’m a doctor. This executive order is wrong. The President does not have the expertise to make these changes. Vaccines are overwhelmingly safe. Vaccines are effective. Vaccines DO NOT cause autism. Breaking up vaccines will mean children have to get more shots to get the same protection, not fewer shots. It will increase hesitancy and make children less safe. Parents should listen to their child’s pediatrician about vaccines rather than listening to an inaccurate executive order. This is so wrong.”
