#MAGFAB: David Oyelowo For VIBE Magazine "The Struggle Is Surreal"
The actor-producer has fought to tell diverse Black stories long before the crackdown on DEI. With a weird, whimsical new comedy series, the changemaker breaks new ground — and doubles down.
David Oyelowo has a new friend. On a March afternoon drained of all its sun, a studio in Glendale has been transformed into a cozy Wes Anderson-esque wonderland. Folding chairs are suspended in the air over here; a human web has been woven from black yarn there. And, of course, a rustic backdrop featuring melting clocks, a lot like Salvador Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory, bridges the familiar with the fantastical. The sounds of his fellow Nigerians Davido, Fela Kuti, and even his son, Asher Yelo, elevate the good vibrations.
As Oyelowo, 49, serves fierce face and moisturized melanin to the camera, a caramel-colored French bulldog named Miles (the stylist’s plus-one) enters the frame to hit his mark alongside Number One on the call sheet. The British multi-hyphenate, also a dog lover, is perfectly fine with sharing the lens and rewards the modeling pooch with proper scritches. “You’re a good boy,” he tells Miles.
Sixteen (literal) miles away from this installation is the one known as the San Fernando Valley, aka The Valley, the region that inspired Apple TV+’s charmingly surrealist new comedy series, Government Cheese. The 10-episode romp, debuting on the streamer on April 16, stars and is produced by Oyelowo. He plays Hampton Chambers, a man newly released from prison, driven by faith and family to pitch and sell his self-sharpening drill to an aerospace company in 1960s Chatsworth, California. Over the course of the series, Chamber’s bold ambitions and shady past collide in hilarious and tragic ways as he stumbles on his path to righteousness.
Oyelowo has built his acting career on never being the same character twice and being the change he wants to see. As the nation and Hollywood roll back DEI efforts put in place after the murder of George Floyd, his fight to globalize more diverse Black storytelling transcends representation — it’s about reclamation and reinvention.
Oyelowo, pronounced oh-yeh-loh-woh, knows a thing or three about hard work. He has collaborated with industry greats like Ava DuVernay, Christopher Nolan, and Steven Spielberg. He has played Black heroes who don’t wear capes, from a Tuskegee Airman (Red Tails) to a dogged detective (Don’t Let Go).
With a surname that means “a king deserves respect,” he has, also, fittingly, a thing for kings. He’s portrayed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in 2015’s Selma as well as King Seretse Khama, Botswana’s first president, in 2016’s A United Kingdom. He was also the first Black actor to be cast as an English king in a major Shakespeare production when he played King Henry VI during his time at the prestigious Royal Shakespeare Company in London in 2001. He notes, almost as an aside, that playing or being the first Black anything does not come easy: “Groundbreaking is exhausting because it tends to be hard ground.”
Government Cheese is a slight detour from Oyelowo’s usual brand of slow-burn dramas. See: Selma, The Help, and The Butler. Those films share the same timeline as the series, but to produce a different effect. “To watch a show [like Government Cheese] with a group of characters in that decade tied to aspiration, joy, family, frivolity, and inventiveness is a bullseye when it comes to my desire to normalize and contextualize marginalized Black life,” he says after the photoshoot.
Created by renowned ad and music video director Paul Hunter (he’s helmed campaigns for global giants like Nike and Apple as well as visuals for artists like Michael Jackson, Pharrell, and Mariah Carey, to name a few) and veteran writer-producer Aeysha Carr (The Carmichael Show, Woke), the series borrows its name from the gooey government handout distributed in 2-lb blocks to American families on welfare from the ‘70s to the early ‘80s. Decades later, Hunter reimagined his formative years in the Valley and gave the term new meaning.
“When I was writing the story, I used government cheese as the inspiration because my dad was like, ‘When your back is up against the wall, [that’s] probably [when] you’re most creative,’” says Hunter, who based Oyelowo’s character on his father.
Like Chambers, Oyelowo is also entrepreneurial with his work. Alongside his wife, Jessica, he runs Yoruba Saxon Productions, which produced his directorial debut, The Water Man, and the psychological drama Nightingale. (The company recently secured a first-look deal to produce features and series with the home of Government Cheese, Apple TV+.) He’s also a co-founder of Mansa, a streaming platform for “global Black culture,” alongside actors Nate Parker, Chiké Okonkwo, and entrepreneur Zak Tanjeloff.
To watch a show [like ‘Government Cheese’] with a group of characters in that decade tied to aspiration, joy, family, frivolity, and inventiveness is a bullseye when it comes to my desire to normalize and contextualize marginalized Black life.
To be clear, gratitude comes with the ability to champion Black stories, get them funded and made. Since 2007, he’s called Los Angeles home, residing with Jessica, their four kids — sons Asher, 23, Caleb, 20, and Penuel, 17, and daughter Zoe, 13— and their three dogs, Maui, Marmite, and Levi. If he’s not in Zoom meetings, on a set, or poring over scripts, he’s honoring family commitments. “I don’t think there’s anything I’m hiding,” he offers with a laugh. He also wears a black pendant in the shape of Africa on a silver chain around his neck during the photo shoot. “I try to be an open book.”

In revisiting the chapters from his childhood, Oyelowo can’t recall a single image of a young Black character in anything he saw as a kid. His earliest movie memory was at five years old watching Christopher Reeve in Superman. He cites beloved ‘80s classics that fueled his obsession with storytelling like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Goonies, and Stephen King’s coming-of-age drama Stand By Me. Looking back, he knew something was off. “I could relate to the [protagonists] as kids, but they didn’t look like me,” he says of the limited catalog of Black characters on screen at the time. “You eat what you’re given.”

Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, his office said Sunday.
Biden was seen last week by doctors after urinary symptoms and a prostate nodule was found. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer on Friday, with the cancer cells having spread to the bone. His office said he has stage 9 cancer.
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” his office said. “The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”
Prostate cancers are given a score called a Gleason score that measures, on a scale of 1 to 10, how the cancerous cells look compared with normal cells. Biden’s score of 9 suggests his cancer is among the most aggressive.
When prostate cancer spreads to other parts of the body, it often spreads to the bones. Metastasized cancer is much harder to treat than localized cancer because it can be hard for drugs to reach all the tumors and completely root out the disease.
However, when prostate cancers need hormones to grow, as in Biden’s case, they can be susceptible to treatment that deprives the tumors of hormones.
The health of Biden, 82, was a dominant concern among voters during his time as president. After a calamitous debate performance in June while seeking reelection, Biden abandoned his bid for a second term. Then-Vice President Kamala Harris became the nominee and lost to Republican Donald Trump, who returned to the White House after a four-year hiatus.
For two decades, HuffPost has been fearless, unflinching, and relentless in pursuit of the truth. Support our mission to keep us around for the next 20 — we can't do this without you.
But in recent days, Biden rejected concerns about his age despite reporting in the new book “Original Sin” by Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson that aides had shielded the public from the extent of his decline while serving as president.
In February 2023, Biden had a skin lesion removed from his chest that was a basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer. And in November 2021, he had a polyp removed from his colon that was a benign, but potentially pre-cancerous lesion.
In 2022, Biden made a “cancer moonshot” one of his administration’s priorities with the goal of halving the cancer death rate over the next 25 years. The initiative was a continuation of his work as vice president to address a disease that had killed his older son, Beau.

#RHOA: NeNe Leakes Weighs In On Mia Thornton Potentially Joining #RHOA
NeNe Leakes is commenting on the highly discussed possibility of former Real Housewife of Potomac Mia Thornton joining The Real Housewives of Atlanta. “Just come on down here [and] be messy,” said the reality TV icon.
The folks at BOSSIP‘s Managing Editor Dani Canada recently joined NeNe Leakes for a lively “Tea Time” segment on The NeNe Leakes Show. The two discussed everything from Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour to age-gap romances and, naturally, all things Real Housewives of Atlanta.
During their chat, Dani brought up Real Housewives of Potomac star Mia Thornton, who recently told her on-again/off-again boo Inc of PostedOnTheCorner that she’d love to snag a peach and join the #RHOA cast. Mia cited the show’s aesthetics and “real friendships” as part of the appeal—a claim that made NeNe raise an eyebrow.
“I don’t know about the real friendships—we can rethink that one,” said NeNe.
Although NeNe admitted she no longer tunes into the show, she told Dani she’s seen Mia around on social media.
“I think she and I may have DMed each other once or twice…I’m sure she’ll make great Housewives with the rest of these girls. Just come on down here [and] just be messy. She should fit right on in.”
During another portion of The NeNe Leakes’ Show’s “Tea Time” segment, NeNe weighed in on a controversial moment on #RHOA season 16.
One of the most talked-about moments from a recent episode featured Porsha Williams joking that she should “f***k ” co-star Angela Oakley’s husband, Charles, a comment Angela didn’t take lightly and confronted her about. Porsha later apologized and blamed the remark on drinking, saying she didn’t remember “HENNYthing.”
NeNe wasn’t impressed. “That’s a bit much for me,” she said when asked if she could forgive a friend for making such a comment. “It would depend on the girlfriend, but I don’t care who she is. I would be looking at her side-eyed, even if she was drinking. Why would you even make a comment like that?”
NeNe was also asked to speak on Angela Oakley just now, making her mark as a full-time peach holder amid former #RHOA producer Carlos King revealing she’d actually been pursued as early as season 3, and continued to be courted through season 9.
NeNe wasn’t aware of those behind-the-scenes discussions.
“I don’t remember seeing anything for her,” she admitted. “But I had my own relationship with Angela Oakley. I have an organization called Ladies of Success. She joined that organization a few years ago, and that’s when she and I met.”
As for the casting process, Leakes explained to Dani Canada how things typically work.
“Sometimes we get to know who they’re casting usually when that person has gotten kind of far in the casting process,” she said. “If it’s somebody they’re just pursuing, they probably didn’t tell us.”
And when it comes to casting chatter, NeNe’s seen it all.
“These girls usually talk so much. They’ll come out and be like, ‘Yeah, they wanted me.’ It’s like girl—they didn’t really want you. They was just trying to talk to you.”

#HipHopNews: Slick Rick adds to hip-hop legacy with ‘Victory’ release
In a momentous convergence of musical legends, hip-hop’s most revered storyteller, Slick Rick, has emerged from a 26-year recording hiatus to collaborate with acclaimed actor and artist Idris Elba on “Victory,” a visionary visual album that transcends conventional boundaries.
The halls of hip-hop history echo with Slick Rick’s distinctive cadence and narrative prowess. His 1988 debut, “The Great Adventures of Slick Rick,” revolutionized storytelling in rap, establishing him as the genre’s premier raconteur. Now, more than two decades after his last album, “The Art of Storytelling,” the eye-patched icon returns with renewed purpose.
“Victory is all about perseverance, storytelling, imagination, and evolution,” Slick Rick explains. “A visual blend of art and heart — a sonic journey that reflects where I’ve been and where I’m going. Victory isn’t just music — it’s a bold in-your-face statement, showcasing British artistry at its finest!”

The album, which will be released on June 13 through Elba’s record label 7Wallace in collaboration with Mass Appeal, represents more than a musical offering. It symbolizes the convergence of generations, continents, and artistic disciplines.
The project fulfills a lifelong dream for Elba, whose career has spanned blockbuster films, television dramas, and music production.
“Working with Slick Rick … back home in the UK, and then offering the world of hip-hop something amazing has been a blessing,” Elba said. “It’s literally a gift!”
Accompanying the album is a 30-minute film directed by Meji Alabi, whose visionary work on Beyoncé’s “Black is King” established him as a formidable creative force. The film transforms Slick Rick’s lyrical narratives into vivid visual tapestries, blending traditional storytelling with contemporary visual language.
The creative process brought together artists from diverse backgrounds, united by a shared commitment to pushing artistic boundaries while honoring hip-hop’s storytelling roots.
Victory will premiere on June 7 at the inaugural SXSW London at Shoreditch Town Hall, featuring an in-depth conversation with Slick Rick, Idris Elba, and Alabi. The New York premiere follows on June 13 at the prestigious Tribeca Festival’s SVA 1 Theater, culminating in a Q&A session with Slick Rick.
This dual-continent launch reflects the project’s transatlantic spirit and its creators’ determination to celebrate their British roots while honoring hip-hop’s American origins.
For fans who have waited over a quarter-century for new material from Slick Rick, whose real name is Richard Martin Lloyd Walters, Victory represents a comeback and a reinvention. The collaboration bridges generational divides, with Slick Rick’s timeless narrative technique finding new expression through Elba’s contemporary vision.
Victory arrives at a pivotal moment in hip-hop’s evolution, as the genre’s pioneers seek to reclaim their place alongside a new generation of artists who have built upon their foundation.
The album stands as a testament to the enduring power of storytelling in music and the ability of artists to transcend the limitations of time and medium. As its title suggests, Victory celebrates triumph over adversity, artistic perseverance, and the unyielding human spirit.
This collaboration represents more than a musical milestone for Slick Rick and Elba — it’s a declaration that true artistry knows no boundaries of age, medium, or expectation.
In the words of Slick Rick himself, it’s not just music. It’s a statement.
Chris Brown Denied Bail In UK Assault Case After Judge Decides He’s A “Flight Risk”

Chris Brown is currently being held in police custody in London. On Friday (May 16), District Judge Joanne Hirst ruled he should remain detained without bail over accusations that he struck a music producer with a bottle. The alleged incident took place in a London nightclub back in February 2023.
According to People, Hirst decided that his charges were "too serious" for a magistrates' court to hear them, so he’ll be headed to Southwark Crown Court on June 13. As for why he was denied bail, the judge reportedly received evidence that proved him to be a "flight risk." Brown could face up to 16 years in prison if found guilty.
About The Alleged Altercation Between Chris Brown And Abe Diaw
In November 2023, producer Abe Diaw sued Brown over the alleged altercation, claiming that the singer struck him over the head with a Don Julio 1942 tequila bottle at London’s Tape Club. He reported serious injuries, including cuts on his head and torn leg ligaments, as well as “serious emotional distress and trauma,” according to TMZ.
Both Diaw and prosecutor Hannah Nicholls have reportedly claimed that the alleged attack was captured on CCTV footage. As previously reported by Rap-Up, the video was turned over to the local police afterward. Diaw supposedly knew Brown for “at least seven” years prior to filing the suit.
What Happens To The “Breezy Bowl” Now?
2025 was shaping up to be huge for Brown, especially since he's set to kick off his “Breezy Bowl XX Stadium World Tour” next month. However, now that’s up in the air. If he does, in fact, remain detained until his hearing, the 11:11 singer will likely miss the tour’s opening dates in Amsterdam (June 8) and Hamburg (June 11). The same goes for his Frankfurt show, which is scheduled the same day he’s expected to appear before the court.
Bryson Tiller was set to join the artist as a supporting act for the tour, with Summer Walker and Jhené Aiko stepping in for its North American dates.

Diddy’s Team Is Reportedly Working Toward A Presidential Pardon From Donald Trump
As Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial continues to intensify, sources close to the embattled music mogul say his inner circle is quietly angling for a potential Presidential pardon — from none other than former U.S. President Donald Trump.
While Combs has publicly distanced himself from Trump in recent years, insiders say desperation has shifted his tone behind closed doors.
“He’s willing to do anything to get out of jail,” a source who has known Combs for a decade tells, Rolling Stone. “He’s always been this way. He’s always going to do what he has to do to get out of a situation.”

That same source notes a striking contradiction in Combs’ strategy. “He doesn’t even like Donald Trump,” the source adds, emphasizing just how dire the mogul’s situation has become.
Still, communication between Combs’ team and Trump’s political network is reportedly “ongoing and preliminary,” with efforts quietly focused on “making connections with the Trump team.”
One insider even admitted that “the words ‘deep state’ came up once or twice,” alluding to the kind of language often used in MAGA-aligned circles to describe government overreach.

While their current relationship may seem opportunistic, Trump and Combs do share a decades-long history. In a 2012 episode of Celebrity Apprentice, Trump referred to Combs as his “friend,” saying: “I love Diddy… he’s a good friend of mine; he’s a good guy.”
When he pressed contestant Aubrey O’Day — formerly of Danity Kane and a Bad Boy artist — for her opinion, she replied, “I don’t want to answer that question… I’m the full-blown f**king story of that.” Still, Trump responded, “I’m going to stick up for him.”

#NoquitinNY: The NY Knicks Defeated The Boston Celtics to reach The Eastern Conference Finals

The New York Knicks eliminated defending NBA champions Boston Celtics from the play-offs with a 119-81 victory to reach their first Eastern Conference finals in 25 years.
Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby led the way with 23 points apiece as the Knicks completed a 4-2 series victory to set up a showdown against fourth-seeded Indiana Pacers for a place in the NBA finals.
The Knicks will open the seven-game series at home at 01:00 BST on Thursday.
Six Knicks players finished in double figures with the 38-point success the largest winning play-off margin in franchise history
Mikal Bridges had four three-pointers in his 22 points while Karl-Anthony Towns added 21 and Josh Hart finished with a triple-double of 10 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.
The Celtics, who lost star forward Jayson Tatum to a ruptured right Achilles tendon in game four, which is likely to keep him out for around nine months, had given themselves hope after winning game five.
But in front of a Madison Square Garden home crowd, which included celebrities Timothee Chalamet, Lenny Kravitz, Ben Stiller and Spike Lee, the Knicks were in a ruthless mood.
They led 26-20 after the first quarter but did most of the damage in the second, outscoring their opponents 38-17 to take a 64-37 lead into the break to all but end the Boston challenge.
Jaylen Brown led the Celtics scoring with 20 points, with Al Horford adding 10 points and Payton Pritchard finishing with 11.
Derrick White, who scored 34 points in game five, was kept quiet with just eight points.
Brunson is following in a family tradition in the play-offs, with his father Rick a member of the New York team that last played in the Eastern Conference finals in 2000.
"This is great," he said. "I mean, the fact that we haven't been here since my dad was on the team - he's not gonna like that - but it means a lot to this organisation and this city.
"In game five Boston got the best of us and we responded tonight. We just found a way to keep making plays on the defensive side, the offence was just rolling."
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau felt his team had delivered a complete performance against the reigning champions.
"I thought from start to finish we were terrific," he said.
"The Celtics are a terrific team on both sides of the ball. They play their style no matter what, and so they're not going to hand you anything. You have to earn it. And I felt we did that.
"But we can't get carried away. Obviously it's a great win and we advance. But you also understand that you have to get ready for the next series. We know that Indiana is a terrific team and we're going to have to be ready."
Despite the defeat, Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla praised his team.
"At the end of the day, we set a goal out and we didn't achieve that goal," he said.
"But that shouldn't take away from the mindset and effort that the players put in - the approach, the process, you can't ask for anymore from the guys. I thought they gave everything they had throughout the season."

Billionaire Mogul David Geffen, 82, Divorces Former Male Go-Go Dancer, 32, with No Prenup
Billionaire David Geffen, 82, files for divorce from go-go dancer husband, 32, without prenup.
For the record, this marriage has come to an end. Entertainment billionaire, David Geffen, has filed for divorce from his husband David Armstrong, after less than two years of marriage.
The 82-year-old mogul tied the knot with the go-go dancer, 32, who goes by Donovan Michaels when he performs, in 2023 and the two did not sign a prenup.
With the help of well known divorce attorney Laura Wasser, Geffen cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split, according to TMZ.
Despite not signing a prenup, Forbes puts the retired businessman’s net worth to be $8.7 billion.
Geffen co-founded Asylum Records in 1971, founded Geffen Records in 1980 and DGC Records in 1990, and co-found DreamWorks Records in 1996.
However, the record executive has been retired for 15 years and his income now consists of stocks and equities, which are separate property.
Per California law, dividends from stocks remain separate, which could possibly leave Armstrong without a large cash settlement.
The performer will receive spousal support for a year, however, since under California law, spouses receive payment for half the length of their marriage.
Geffen will also pay Armstrong’s spousal support and attorney’s fees, TMZ reported, citing divorce documents.
The pair reportedly first met in 2020 when Armstrong served as a personal trainer for Geffen before marrying in a private ceremony in Beverly Hills.
In 2023, details surrounding Armstrong’s past came to light. His former friends told The Post at the time that the dancer’s income stems from picking up odd jobs in New York and Miami.
The go-go dancer was born David Armstrong in Michigan, until he began going by Brandon Foster after relocating to Florida in 2014.
The trainer started dancing and promoting parties at gay clubs around Miami including “clothing optional” pool parties “along with plenty of other hot sexy guys.”
Armstrong was no stranger to flaunting his toned physique in Instagram photos, with one shot from September 2014 noting he was “doing a little camming tonight.”
The caption added he would “put on a good show” for anyone who would pay for his footage.
Two years later, around 2016, Armstrong left Florida for New York City, where he took on his new name.
A former girlfriend revealed she only knew Armstrong to date women.
But due to the fact he liked adventure and would dive head first into situations, his former flame wasn’t shocked by his marriage.
“I wouldn’t be surprised. I mean, he’s very attractive,” she shared. “He would tell me people just assumed that he was into guys from what he posts on Instagram.”
“I know that he was getting comments like that from gay men, that he was really attractive and in really good shape.”
At the time, pictures of Geffen and Armstrong spotted at a New York City heliport surfaced. The photos showed Geffen flashing a gold band on his ring finger.
Another one of Armstrong’s friends told The Post the former fitness guru “was always looking for his next adventure and was really determined to improve his life.”
Sources noted that Armstrong also came from “very humble beginnings” in Imlay City, Michigan, a town of just 4,000 people and was one of 13 children.
A former pal revealed he was “super secretive” and rarely divulged his past.
“It took a while to really get to know him because he was really private about his past,” said the former friend.
They explained Armstrong was “always searching for something to help him understand his past and what he experienced.”
“I think he rebelled a lot when he was younger, and that was a big part of why he left,” the friend confessed.
The mogul’s social media has since gone private.
When knewz.com reported the rumored nuptials last month, a source was cited saying that ‘David has loved Donovan for a while, and they had been talking about taking the next step together.’
‘David waited a long time to find the right partner, and Donovan is definitely the one,’ added the source. ‘David and Donovan opted for a simple but special ceremony to mark their union, and they were surrounded by close family and friends.’
Geffen came out as gay in 1992 after years of being linked to a string of well-known women, including Cher.
It was not Geffen’s first age gap romance. In 2012, when he was 69, he split from Jeremy Lingvall, who was 41 at the time, after six years together.
In 2012 the music mogul also dated 20-year-old former college football player Jamie Kuntz, and at one point filed a restraining order against him.
Earlier in his storied career, Geffen founded Asylum records, which signed musical sensations like Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and the Eagles. He later founded Geffen records, which went on to release the work of artists including Elton John, Cher, Aerosmith, Blink-182, Guns N’ Roses, and Nirvana.

Pedro Pascal Gives Message About Politically-Charged Movie 'Eddington' Amid Trump's Immigration Policies: 'Don't Let Them Win'

Pedro Pascal is not letting fear win. The 50-year-old actor attended the 2025 Cannes Film Festival for his Western film Eddington this week. There, he was asked if he was anxious about returning to The United States after starring in a film with a strong political message amid President Donald Trump‘s immigration policies.
“Fear is the way that they win. Keep telling the stories, keep expressing yourself and keep fighting to be who you are. F–k the people that try to make you scared. Fight back. This is the perfect way to do so in telling stories. Don’t let them win,” Pedro responded during a press conference.
He also got candid about how his lived experience as an immigrant gives him an important perspective on the issue.
“Obviously, it’s very scary for an actor participating in a movie to sort of speak to issues like this. I want people to be safe and to be protected, and I want very much to live on the right of history,” he said.
“I’m an immigrant. My parents are refugees from Chile. We fled a dictatorship, and I was privileged enough to grow up in the U.S. after asylum in Denmark. If it weren’t for that, I don’t know what would have happened to us. I stand by those protections,” he added.
Directed by Ari Aster, Eddington tells the story of “a standoff between a small-town sheriff a and mayor [that] sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico,” per Variety. Joaquin Phoenix, Emma Stone, and Austin Butler also star.

Smokey Robinson Under Criminal Investigation Following Sexual Assault Allegations
Motown icon Smokey Robinson is confronting the most controversial crisis of his 60‑year career. Four women who once worked as housekeepers in the singer’s Los Angeles–area residences have filed a $50 million civil complaint, accusing the 85‑year‑old of rape, sexual battery, false imprisonment and labor abuses spanning 2007 to 2024. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department has now opened a criminal investigation.
We reported earlier that the lawsuit, filed in L.A. Superior Court on May 6, details strikingly similar stories. Jane Doe 1, employed from January 2023 until quitting last February, says Robinson cornered her when other staff were off duty, “roughly penetrate[d] her vagina with his fingers” and “enjoyed ejaculating in her vagina without using a condom,” despite her protests. Jane Doe 2 recounts at least 23 assaults while on staff from 2014 to 2020, including being forced to perform oral sex and then raped. Jane Doe 3, hired in 2012, claims Robinson would order her to lie face‑down on a towel before assaulting her from behind, while Jane Doe 4, a housekeeper since 2006 who later served as Robinson’s wife Frances Gladney’s assistant—says she, too, was raped.
All four plaintiffs name Gladney as a co‑defendant, alleging she cultivated a hostile workplace and ignored prior misconduct. Attorney John Harris declared at a press conference, “We believe that Mr. Robinson is a serial and sick rapist, and must be stopped.” Co‑counsel Herbert Hayden added that Gladney leveraged the women’s financial dependence: “She used their status as well as our clients’ reliance on their living wage in order to keep them in check.”
In response to the allegation, Robinson told the Daily Mail, “I am appalled … I can’t speak about this right now.” His attorney Christopher Frost noted that the police inquiry was triggered only after the civil filing: “We welcome that investigation … we feel confident that a determination will be made that Mr. Robinson did nothing wrong.”
The LASD called the case “in the early stages” and offered no timeline. If charges follow, Robinson, long celebrated for hits like “Tracks of My Tears,” could see his public legacy collide head‑on with a criminal courtroom.

Joe Exotic Reveals Cancer Has Returned and Spread to Lungs

Joe Exotic, the eccentric former zookeeper made famous by the Netflix series Tiger King, has revealed that his prostate cancer has returned and spread to his lungs. The 62-year-old, whose real name is Joseph Allen Maldonado, announced in an exclusive interview with RadarOnline.com.
Just weeks ago, Exotic had claimed the cancer was in remission. Now, he says the disease has not only returned but is also affecting his lungs. Despite the progression, he is refusing treatment.
“The prostate cancer is back out of remission, the lung cancer is there now,” he said, admitting he hasn’t been feeling well and has experienced frequent vomiting.
Exotic is currently serving a 21-year prison sentence for his involvement in a murder-for-hire plot targeting rival zookeeper Carole Baskin, a case that drew national attention following the explosive success of Tiger King.
Behind bars, Exotic continues to deal with declining health. He has previously voiced concerns about the prison system’s handling of his medical care, and his latest revelation raises fresh questions about his condition and the care available to him.
Despite the grim update, Exotic has not indicated any plans to seek early release based on health grounds.

2 KILLED, 19 INJURED After Mexican Navy ship crashed into Brooklyn Bridge

The collision happened just before 8:30 p.m. near Brooklyn Bridge Park as horrified onlookers watched helplessly as the massive ship -- with almost 300 sailors on board -- barreled toward, then smashed into the 142-year-old bridge, the three towering masts snapping upon impact and crew members left dangling in the air.
Early Sunday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that two people had died in the collision, and that among the injured, two were in critical condition.
"We are praying for everyone on board and their families and are grateful to our first responders who quickly jumped into action, ensuring this accident wasn't much worse," Adams said in a post on X.
The Cuauhtémoc, a training ship on an international goodwill mission, was set to disembark and was next headed to Iceland when the collision happened.
Authorities say the boat's captain lost control of the vessel, and Adams on Sunday morning said the ship had lost power. The ship's masts snapped as they struck the bridge's underside, and pieces fell onto the deck. Officials say the iconic span itself did not sustain structural damage. All lanes on the bridge reopened after a brief closure following the collision.
The authorities said that 277 people were aboard the ship, and that nobody fell into the water, even as some sailors were left dangling from harnesses on the masts after the crash.

The victims were being taken away on stretchers at Pier 17 at South Street Seaport.
The National Transportation Safety Board is on site and will begin its investigation, but preliminary information shows it was likely a mechanical issue with the sailboat, according to officials.
Witness videos capture the ship's ominous approach toward the bridge. In one video, a woman filming the ship, which was festooned with amber lights and a giant Mexican flag, can be heard wondering aloud if the ship might collide with the bridge. When the ship's mast strikes the bottom of the bridge, she screams, "It crashed! It crashed!" in Spanish, and then, in English, as the ship continues to approach the Dumbo shore, "Stop! Stop!"
"Oh my God," she continues in English, and then, in Spanish, she says, "It crashed, it crashed. Run away from there," referring to people gathered on a pier where the ship seemed about to hit.
NYPD Harbor Unit and SCUBA were among the first responders who converged on the scene.
The Mexican ship was described as a "goodwill vessel" that had plied the waters since 1982.
The Cuauhtémoc is about 297 feet long and 40 feet wide, according to the Mexican Navy. The vessel's main mast has a height of 160 feet, according to the Mexican government.
Each year, the ship sets out at the end of classes at the naval military school to finish cadets' training. This year it left the Mexican port of Acapulco, on the Pacific coast, on April 6, the navy said.
The Mexican consulate said on May 13 on X that the Cuauhtémoc, also called the "Ambassador and Knight of the Seas," arrived that day and docked at Pier 17. It invited people to visit through May 17.
The ship was scheduled to visit 22 ports in 15 nations, including Kingston, Jamaica; Havana, Cuba; Cozumel, Mexico; and New York.
It also had planned to go to Reykjavik, Iceland; Bordeaux, Saint Malo and Dunkirk, France; and Aberdeen, Scotland, among others, for a total of 254 days, 170 of them at sea.
