#MAGFAB: LaKeith Stanfield Covers MR PORTER’s Latest Edition of THE JOURNAL
THE JOURNAL’s latest cover star is LaKeith Stanfield, one of the most distinctive and compelling actors of his generation. Stanfield’s range, ability to disappear into roles, and refusal to conform to Hollywood’s expectations set him apart as singular. In anticipation of the release of his latest project with Jennfer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson, Lynne Ramsay’s DIE, MY LOVE, LaKeith sits down with writer Tahirah Hairston for a candid conversation about authenticity, maintaining balance and self-expression.
Stanfield shares the significance of his consciousness and internal compass as a guiding force in approaching the projects he takes on – a mirror of his authenticity and passion. He reflects on growing up in Riverside and Victorville, California and the transformative moment that connected him with acting as emotional expression, as well as finding personal channels of expression in everything from his music and collaboration with Kid Cudi to fashion.

On balance and staying grounded, LaKeith emphasizes his dedication to mental health through meditation and embracing his emotions. Intentional self-care, clear boundaries and a private personal life remain essential to sustaining his work and giving his all.
Over the course of his conversation with THE JOURNAL, a portrait emerges of an artist who is fully present in his work while drawing clear boundaries and retaining a sense of elusiveness beyond his roles. Stanfield demonstrates that authenticity doesn’t require total transparency. In an industry where Black performers are often expected to be perpetually available for consumption, his insistence on maintaining mystery feels like its own form of resistance.

#RHOA: ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Kelli Ferrell's ex-husband alleges misconduct by legal officials, Bravo TV
Mark Ferrell, the ex-husband of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast member Kelli Ferrell, is accusing Rockdale County officials and Bravo TV of misconduct.

Standing alongside his attorneys and father, Ferrell announced lawsuits for defamation, malicious prosecution, and civil rights violations on the steps of the Rockdale County Courthouse Tuesday.
“This is not just one man’s fight — it’s a case that raises national questions about judicial accountability, abuse of power, racial bias in family courts, and the influence of entertainment media on legal proceedings," the news release says.

Ferrell was married to Kelli Ferrell, who joined “Real Housewives of Atlanta” on season 16. Kelli is best known as the co-founder of the famed Nana’s Chicken-N-Waffles, which has locations in McDonough and now Sandy Springs.

#HipHopNews: Earl Sweatshirt Announces “3LWorld Tour” For ‘Live Laugh Love’ Album
Fans are going to see a lot more Earl Sweatshirt. On Tuesday (Sept. 2), the Odd Future rapper announced he’s hitting the road for the “3LWorld Tour” in support of his latest album.
Friday (Aug. 22), Earl dropped Live Laugh Love, his first album since 2022’s SICK! The 11-track project, his sixth LP, came almost as a surprise due to its extremely brief roll out. He announced the album’s arrival date only a couple of days prior, and the album release party even featured an imposter performing in his place.

As for the “3LWorld Tour,” the national dates will kick off Oct. 31 in Morrison, CO, at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, with support from Denzel Curry and Freddie Gibbs. Stops include Las Vegas, Dallas, New Orleans, and Atlanta, before wrapping Dec. 16 at Seattle’s Showbox SoDo. Worth noting, although absent from the initial lineup, Earl will also perform on Nov. 16 at his buddy Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival. The “Super Rich Kids” rapper will be there on the second day of the 2-day event held at Dodger Stadium.

The international leg of the tour will kick off on Jan. 20, 2026, in Helsinki, Finland, at the Ääniwalli and will hit European cities like Hamburg, Rome, Antwerp, and Paris. It will conclude a month later on Feb. 20 in Lisbon, Portugal.
Since his new album’s release, Earl dropped a pair of videos for “Tourmaline” and “CRISCO” to push the album. The former features Earl rapping about his responsibilities as a father. The Live Laugh Love capsule collection he created for the tour is in line with his fatherhood (he recently welcomed a second child) as it features onesies, a baby bib, a blanket and a puzzle. There are also children's and adult tees as well as an incense burner.

Looks like the famously reserved rapper is covering all the promotional bases. Starting Sept. 5, tickets to the “3LWorld Tour” can be purchased on his website here. https://www.earlsweatshirt.com/tour

Mary J. Blige Loses Attempt To Have $5M Lawsuit Filed By Misa Heard In Special Court

Mary J. Blige’s attempt to transfer a $5 million lawsuit filed by Misa Hylton to a New York court that handles complex business disputes failed as a judge ruled the case didn’t meet the requirements for the specialized venue.
Blige’s legal team argued the case, centered on allegations that she interfered with Hylton’s management deal involving rapper Vado, was too intricate for standard civil court.

They claimed the lawsuit involved “complex” issues such as California law, contract enforcement and corporate standing.
However, Judge Suzanne J. Adams rejected the motion, stating that the claims were tied to entertainment and artist management agreements, not the type of commercial dealings the court’s Commercial Division was designed to handle.
In her ruling, Adams wrote that “the complexity of the case, the choice of law issues, and the amount in controversy do not warrant transfer to the Commercial Division.”
The lawsuit, filed in April 2025, accuses Mary J. Blige of pressuring Vado to abandon his agreement with Hylton’s M.I.S.A. Management in favor of signing with Blige’s label, Beautiful Life Productions.

Hylton alleges Blige withheld album releases and touring opportunities from Vado unless he cut ties with her.
Hylton is seeking $5 million in damages, as well as an injunction to prevent Blige from interfering in future business relationships.

The complaint also names Blige’s head of security, whom Hylton claims is her boyfriend, and accuses him of warning Vado that he’d “lose out on opportunities” if he stayed with Hylton.
Blige has dismissed the claims as “patently frivolous” and “meritless,” suggesting the lawsuit is a personal attack designed to force a settlement.
Her attorneys argue that Hylton’s company is not a valid corporation and that she lacks the proper licensing to operate as a talent agent.
Blige is also seeking sanctions against Hylton and her attorney, alleging the suit was filed for publicity and leverage.

Hylton’s lawyer said they tried to resolve the dispute privately, but turned to the courts when Blige’s team stopped responding.
As of late July 2025, the case remains active in civil court, with Blige pushing for dismissal and Hylton standing firm on her claims.

Cardi B Cleared Of Assault Allegations In $24 Million Civil Trial
A California jury unanimously agreed to clear rapper and entertainer Cardi B of assault allegations on Tuesday.
Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, was hit with a $24 million civil lawsuit by a former security guard, Emani Ellis, who alleged that the star spat on her and scratched her nose during an altercation in 2018.

A Los Angeles jury found that Ellis could not prove the elements of assault, negligence or emotional distress.

During the trial last month, Cardi testified that she was keeping her pregnancy with her first child under wraps when she went for an appointment with an obstetrician in Beverly Hills. She said Ellis, who was working security for the building, followed her and recorded her on video.
“I told her, ‘Why are you recording?’” Cardi testified. “And she said, ’Oh my bad.’ She practically apologized.”
“As we were arguing she’s backing me, she’s walking into me,” Cardi added.
But at no point did either of them get into a physical fight, Cardi said.

“She couldn’t get a scratch from me because I didn’t touch her,” Cardi testified.
She also acknowledged that Ellis didn’t escalate to a physical confrontation.
“She didn’t touch me,” Cardi said on the stand. “She was going to touch me, but she didn’t get to touch me.”

Ellis said in her testimony that the scratch allegedly inflicted by Cardi required a cosmetic procedure because of scarring. Ellis also lost her job over the incident, and said the experience has been traumatizing.

David Finke, the doctor Cardi was going to see that day, testified that he witnessed the altercation but never saw Cardi assault Ellis, NBC News reported. He said that during the argument, he told Ellis to “stop” and “do your job.”

Parents of missing Hyattsville 19-year-old Dacara Thompson take search to new location
The parents of missing Maryland 19-year-old Dacara Thompson have expanded their search for their daughter. News4’s Paul Wagner reports.
The parents of Dacara Thompson took the search for their daughter to a new location Monday, about a half a mile from where her car was found.
The 19-year-old has been missing for 10 days, and her parents decided to search a wooded area near the old Adelphi Mill on Riggs Road.

Her mother, Carmen Thompson, had just walked through some brush when she noticed what appeared to be a metal trap door. It was chained shut, but there was just enough of a gap to peer down inside.
She has spent 10 days searching for her daughter and thought the mill was a good place to look.
“I’m exhausting any resource, anything I can think of,” she said. “I noticed this yesterday as I rode by to go to the location. I noticed on my right view as I went by and made a note to come back here also this morning.”

Despite several hours of searching along the stream bed, Carmen and Daniel Thompson came up with nothing new.
“Just so, you know, to see if I can find any clues, any clothes, any indication of someone being here,” Carmen Thompson said.
Dacara Thompson left her father’s Lanham home the night of Aug. 22, telling her dad she was heading out to get gas for her car. The two communicated briefly that night, and she told her dad she would be home soon.

Her father found her car parked in front of a fire hydrant pointed in the wrong direction, right across from the Chillum-Aldephi Volunteer Fire Station.
Dacara Thompson was a new driver, her mom told News4, and it appeared to her that Dacara had just gotten out of the car and was planning to return very quickly. Her purse, containing credit cards and cash, was still inside the vehicle, but her phone and key fob were gone.
Her parents are still unsure, but think a person shown in a grainy surveillance video could be Dacara Thompson walking in that neighborhood about 1:30 a.m. Saturday Aug. 23.

“I’m scared but still hopeful,” Daniel Thompson said.
Carmen and Daniel Thompson say Prince George's County police are assisting in the search and asked they not share certain details with the public.
“I guess they don’t want to mess up an active investigation, but they are doing some stuff,” Daniel Thompson said.
Dacara Thompson's phone may have been turned off in the hours after she vanished.

It’s a mystery her parents desperately want to solve.

Drake On Being Labeled A ‘Culture Vulture’: ‘I Think I Get Really Sensitive About That’

#Drake has heard your criticism, and he’s addressing the allegations of being a culture vulture.
In a newly dropped interview with #BobbiAlthoff, Drake took a moment to speak on claims that he’s leeching off the culture.

The #Toronto native said:“I experience a lot of guilt tripping in my life where people are like, ‘No this is your fault,’ essentially… My intentions are pure. It’s the same way even in music. People will be like, ‘You’re a culture vulture.’ People will describe the collaborative efforts that I’ve put forth and the artists that I’ve picked up and lifted up or shined a light on as me taking. They’ll put a negative spin on it and try to tell me that it’s a self-serving thing. I think I get really sensitive about that.”

What are your thoughts?

Taraji P. Henson Laughs at Fan's 'Crush' on Her, Gives Him a Hug
Taraji P. Henson briefly entertained a flirty fan while running errands. In a clip that surfaced on social media this week, the Straw actress was dressed leisurely while grabbing items from her car trunk during the day.

With no security around, the male fan took the opportunity to approach Henson and inquire about her dating status.
"I just wanted to ask you, like, are you single?" he asked, possibly wearing camera glasses due to the angle of the video.
"Yes, I am," the actress replied before the fan revealed that she was his "crush growing up."
"And I actually love you," he continued.

Someone randomly met Taraji P. Henson and didn’t waste time shooting their shot 😭
"Oh, sweetheart," Henson added before moving in for a hug.
"I really adore you," the fan added. "I would love to Dior you."

Henson, who has allegedly dated Common and Drake and was previously engaged to former football player Kelvin Hayden, shared on The Breakfast Club in May that she isn't concerned with dating.
"I'm so happy. I can't explain. People go, 'You're glowing.' Yes. Because I am not dealing with nobody's unhealed child," she said on the radio show. "I am at peace. The peace that I have been fighting for, I have it. And it has nothing to do with anybody. No other human. It's all in me."

Among one of Henson's earlier relationships was with her son's late father, William LaMarr "Mark" Johnson, who was killed in 2003 at 34 years old. The couple welcomed a son, Marcell, in 2004.
On an episode of Lena Waithe-hosted podcast Legacy Talk, Henson said that her breakout role in Baby Boy was reflective of her "hood" relationship with Johnson.

"There were times when I read that script where I got goosebumps and I had to put it down because it was literally the blueprint to my baby's father and I's relationship," Henson told Waithe. "That young love, that young toxic hood love. I mean, verbatim."

Houston Man Allegedly Fatally Shoots 11-Year-Old Boy Playing 'Ding Dong Ditch' Prank
A Houston man has been charged after allegedly fatally shooting an 11-year-old boy who rang the man’s doorbell while playing “ding dong ditch,” the game of ringing a stranger's doorbell or knocking on their door and then running away.
According to an affidavit by a Houston police officer that was viewed by Complex and a press release put out by the city, just before 11 p.m. on Saturday (August 30), the boy, Julian Guzman, and his friends pulled the prank on at a house on Mimbrough Street.

One of the other kids told the police that while he was running away, he heard a gunshot. He then turned around and, per the affidavit, "saw a person, who he described as wearing all black, extend his arm and shoot one more time" towards Guzman. Guzman then collapsed to the ground.
Once authorities showed up, the witness directed police to the house and identified Leon standing outside. The cops detained Leon and searched his home. During searches of the residence, police said they found "approximately 20 firearms, including AR type rifles, shotguns, and medium caliber pistols."

After the shooting, Guzman was taken to the hospital. He was pronounced dead on Sunday. Per the medical examiner, the cause of death was a gunshot wound.

Leon was charged with murder on Monday (September 1) and booked in jail the following day.
According to Houston police homicide Sgt. Michael Cass, the incident wasn’t self-defense because it didn’t occur “close to the house.”
The state is okay with Leon being out on bond while the case plays out, but they have requested that he not possess any firearms or ammunition, that he be prohibited from drinking or using drugs, and that he remain in his house between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. every day. A judge has not yet decided on whether Leon will get out on bond, or under what conditions.

“Ding dong ditch” has become popular on TikTok. Earlier this year, in May, an 18-year-old in Virginia was fatally shot while capturing a “ding dong ditch” clip for the video-sharing platform. The man who allegedly opened fire was charged with second-degree murder.

LSU’s first Black law dean says she was pushed out over race and gender bias

Louisiana State University’s first Black law dean, Alena Allen, raised concerns about budget misreporting before being asked to step down from her position.
Her legal team claims the university retaliated against her based on race and gender.
The case highlights ongoing challenges around equity and leadership in higher education.

Alena Allen, the first woman and person of color to lead Louisiana State University’s Paul M. Hebert Law Center, is considering legal action after allegedly being forced to resign due to racial and gender discrimination in higher education leadership.
Appointed in February 2023, Allen was given the option to resign on Thursday (Aug. 28) but declined, according to NOLA.com. Still, LSU Interim Executive Vice President and Provost Troy Blanchard sent an internal email the following day stating that Allen would step down as dean and transition to a full-time faculty role.

He added that a national search would begin to find her replacement.
In a letter to the university, Allen’s attorney, Allison Jones, accused the LSU Board of Supervisors of “systematic discrimination and retaliatory conduct” following questions surrounding financial “irregularities” at the law school.

Timeline of Alena Allen’s resignation dispute
Allen raised concerns that the law school’s budget overstated tuition revenue by ignoring widespread discounts, leading to shortfalls covered by private foundation funds. Though these issues predated her tenure, she felt LSU leadership unfairly held her accountable.

“I am the first woman and the first person of color to serve as the permanent dean of the Paul M. Hebert Law Center. That fact is not incidental — it is central to what follows,” she wrote to auditors, per NOLA.com. “I find it deeply troubling, and frankly difficult to ignore, that I appear to be held to a standard far more exacting than that applied to my white, overwhelmingly male predecessors. It was they who oversaw and entrenched the very practices I have since questioned and begun to reform.”

Allison reportedly said Allen requested an investigation into possible racial and gender discrimination. Then, on Thursday, Allen was called to a meeting with Blanchard and Human Resources director Clay Jones.
At the meeting, Blanchard reportedly informed her that the LSU Board of Supervisors had decided to “make a change in leadership” at the law school, citing a shift in direction. Allison said Blanchard offered Allen the option to resign and “control the messaging,” but she declined.
The attorney claimed neither she nor Allen were given prior notice of the email announcing Allen’s resignation.

An LSU spokesperson told the news outlet that the university could not comment on personnel matters.
As Allen weighs her legal options, her case raises broader questions about equity, accountability and leadership standards in higher education. The outcome could have lasting implications for how institutions handle internal dissent and diversity in top roles.

Niecy Nash-Betts and Jessica Betts go full Mardi Gras for 5th wedding anniversary
The couple’s backyard celebration featured a full New Orleans-style parade with brass bands and dancers.
Guests enjoyed Louisiana classics like gumbo, crawfish étouffée and a signature cocktail called “Simply the Betts.”
The Mardi Gras theme honored the city where Niecy and Jessica’s love story began, adding personal meaning to the festivities.

Niecy Nash-Betts and Jessica Betts know how to throw a party. On Saturday (Aug. 30), the actress and her wife hosted a Mardi Gras–themed celebration at their Los Angeles home to honor five years of marriage, complete with New Orleans food, festive décor and plenty of beads.

“We fell in love in New Orleans,” Niecy told PEOPLE, explaining why the couple leaned into the city’s culture for their anniversary. Guests, including Ava DuVernay, Jenifer Lewis, Kym Whitley and Angie Beyincé, were greeted with a photo booth stocked with masks and “Krewe of Betts” signs before heading into a backyard decorated with purple, green and gold balloons.

According to the magazine, the party featured three food stations highlighting Louisiana favorites. There were charcuterie spreads, chicken gumbo, crawfish étouffée, red beans and rice, and a massive seafood boil loaded with snow crab legs, shrimp and corn. At the bar, one of the signature drinks was fittingly named “Simply the Betts.” Later, a brass band, dancers and a Zulu Tramp performance turned the yard into a full-on New Orleans parade.

The couple’s anniversary also gave them a chance to reflect on their wedding day in 2020, which took place in the same backyard. Because of the pandemic, just 24 guests were present, all of whom had to take a COVID test before entering.

“We had a time. We danced all night. It was beautiful,” Niecy told the publication about their anniversary celebration. Jessica added, “What better way to have our fifth right here, in the place that we said our vows for forever.”
Niecy has been open about how her marriage to Betts has reshaped her personal journey. In June, she told “TODAY with Jenna & Friends” that she never expected to be part of the LGBTQ+ community.

“I was adjacent. I was an ally, but now I’m a card-carrying member,” she said. Reflecting on her past marriages to men, she explained, “I don’t think it’s about the gender that makes it special. It’s just, I met my soulmate.”

According to Greg, he chose to auction off his medals in order to fund his move out of the country.

Trump Orders Military Strike on Alleged Drug Vessel, Venezuela Threatens to Fire Back
Things just got serious on the high seas. Earlier today, U.S. military forces carried out what Donald Trump is calling a “kinetic strike” on a vessel allegedly operated by the Tren de Aragua gang, a group the U.S. has labeled a foreign terrorist organization. According to Trump’s Truth Social post, the boat was hit in international waters while transporting illegal narcotics toward the United States. The strike reportedly killed 11 people, whom Trump described as terrorists, and he made it clear that no American forces were hurt during the operation.

In his post, Trump said this action was meant to send a loud message to anyone even thinking about moving drugs into the U.S. He closed the announcement with a sharp warning: “BEWARE!”
But the aftermath isn’t just about what went down on the water. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro quickly responded and he’s not holding back. Maduro accused the U.S. of provoking a regional crisis and trying to set up a military regime change. He went as far as saying Venezuela would become a “republic in arms” if it’s pushed further.

The Venezuelan government has labeled the U.S. strike an illegal and reckless act, warning that it threatens peace in the entire region. Maduro claims Washington is using the war on drugs as a smokescreen to launch a bigger power play. And he’s not just talking. Venezuela has reportedly mobilized troops and militia groups in response, making it clear they see this as more than a one-off mission.

U.S. officials argue the operation was justified and carried out in accordance with international law, pointing to the recent increase in military resources in the Caribbean as part of a larger push to disrupt narcotrafficking operations. Seven warships, one nuclear-powered submarine, and over four thousand troops are now in the region.
While Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are calling this a win in the war on drugs, critics and global observers are raising questions about whether this move escalates the U.S. into a broader conflict. International analysts say it remains unclear how much direct control the Venezuelan government has over Tren de Aragua, but the timing and public framing make it hard to separate the politics from the strategy.

What started as a drug interdiction could easily spiral into a much bigger international showdown. For now, the Caribbean just became the latest frontline in a rising wave of tension between the U.S. and Venezuela.
