#HipHopNews: Pharrell Williams Sued by Neptunes’ Partner Chad Hugo

Chad Hugo is suing his Neptunes’ producing partner Pharrell Williams over unpaid royalties, Billboard reports. In a lawsuit filed on Friday, January 23, Hugo claims Williams has refused to hand over crucial financial documents and owes him up to $1 million for work on the 2017 N.E.R.D. album, No One Ever Really Dies Alone.
“Williams engaged in self-dealing, concealed material information, and, upon information and belief, diverted revenues owed to Plaintiff,” Hugo’s attorney, Brent J. Lehman, claims in a filing obtained by Pitchfork. “Such willful, fraudulent, and malicious conduct warrants the imposition of punitive damages.”
Lehman declined to comment further on the suit. Pitchfork has also reached out to Williams’ representatives for comment.
In 2024, Hugo accused Williams of seeking sole ownership of the Neptunes’ trademark. Williams’ attorneys said they attempted to offer Hugo joint ownership, but Hugo’s reps claimed those business terms would have limited their client’s compensation.
As the Neptunes, Hugo and Williams’ work dominated the late ‘90s and early 2000s pop, rap, and R&B scenes. Between 1998 and 2006, the duo produced more than a dozen songs that charted on the Hot 100’s top 10, including No. 1 singles “Drop It Like It’s Hot” by Snoop Dogg, “Hollaback Girl” by Gwen Stefani, and “Money Maker” by Ludacris. In 2020, the Neptunes were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The duo are also credited as producers in Hugo and Williams’ rap-rock hybrid group with Shay Haley, N.E.R.D.

#OSCARS26 Delroy Lindo Details Sweet Moment His Son Told Him He Got Nominated for a 2026 Oscar

Delroy Lindo's family isn't feeling any blues about his 2026 Oscars nomination.
The Sinners actor revealed the sweet moment he shared with his and wife Nashormeh N.R. Lindo's son Damiri Lindo after he earned a Best Supporting Actor nod for his performance as blues musician Delta Slim in the 2025 vampire horror film. (For the complete list of 2026 Oscar nominees, click here.)
In fact, Delroy told E! News in an exclusive interview that Damiri—who is currently working in Europe—was the first one in their family to learn the exciting news.
"I was in bed," he recalled. "My phone rang. It was my son. I picked it up and said, 'Hey man,' and he said, 'Dad, dad, you got it. You got that s--t.'"
Emphasizing that his son was "very excited," the 73-year-old went on to explain why it was a full-circle moment.
"It means the world because he's seen it all," Delroy said. "He's seen it away from the red carpet. He's seen both sides of it. So, along with my wife, they have the internal and the external perspective on this journey. It felt completely right on to receive this news from my son."
And the actor—who faces off against Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), Stellan Skarsgård (Sentimental Value), Benicio Del Toro (One Battle After Another) and Sean Penn (One Battle After Another) in his category—is equally as thrilled about the Ryan Coogler-directed movie's other nominations for the 98th annual award show, airing on ABC and streaming on Hulu on March 15.
After all, Sinners was recognized in a whopping 16 total categories, setting the record for most nods for a single film in Oscars history.
"It's just incredibly joyful and affirming," Delroy told E!. "Affirming that audiences inside and outside of the industry have responded to this work so fully, and the fact that the work has touched people, I believe, in the depth of their humanity."
He added, "I don't have the words to explain how gratifying and affirming that feels. It's extraordinary."
Delroy isn't the only Sinners cast member to be a first-time Oscar nominee. Michael B. Jordan, who is up for Best Actor for his performance as twins Smoke and Stack, is also competing for the coveted trophy for the first time. Meanwhile, Wunmi Mosaku earned her first nod for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of healer Annie in the film.
For Delroy—who's previously racked up critical acclaim for his roles in movies such as 1992's Malcolm X and 2020's Da 5 Bloods—he credits early conversations with Ryan about life in the Jim Crow South as helping to create a robust character profile for Delta Slim.
"I told Ryan that I seemed to disappear in the second act of the film,” he explained in an interview with The Ankler published Dec. 11. “I’m much more present than I was originally in that first draft.”

Jackée Harry Shows Off New Facelift At 69 Years Old

Emmy winner Jackée Harry is starting the new year with a youthful appearance.
The Sister, Sister actress revealed in an interview with Entertainment Tonight (ET) that she received a deep plane facelift. This procedure lifts muscle and fat, restoring youthful contours.
Harry went to the Lasky Clinic Surgical Center, located in Beverly Hills, where the procedure took four hours and involved Harry having her face and neck lifted. According to Harry’s surgeon, the cost ranges from $40,000 to $250,000.
Harry explained to the outlet that her concern was loose skin on the sides of her face. While she was terrified of the procedure, she was also eager to get it done. She mentioned a few naysayers who suggested that she shouldn’t follow through with the idea. “When you constantly want something that bad, you gotta do it,” she said. “And I discovered I wanted it that bad. It’s terrifying but exciting.”
She name dropped other celebrities that she used as inspo for her facelift.”‘The Ricki Lake’ special I call it. And then Kris Jenner, up close it looks really good.” She mentioned actress Jane Fonda and the late, Diahann Carroll who “told me I should have it done at 35.”
In the almost 4-month post-op photo, shared by her doctor, Harry’s facial skin is visibly lifted and wrinkles appear to be smooth.
“Like many of our patients, we discussed her desire to keep her expressive and animated face while maintaining her natural beauty,” Dr. Davis wrote in the caption of the before and after post. “She didn’t want to look like anyone but herself, and that’s something we strive for. Now, she is nearly three and a half months post-op with about three more months of healing ahead of her.”
Harry is seemingly overjoyed with the results so far. “They call it snatched,” Harry said of the reactions to her facelift. “I’m yanked.”
“I have no qualms about how old I am or who I am,” she said. “This helps, it boosts it. It pushes it forwards, so why not?”
Harry is best known for her breakout role as Sandra Clark on NBC’s “227.” She gained further notoriety for her role as Lisa Landry on the ABC/The WB sitcom Sister, Sister.

“The true meaning of paying it forward. Early financial literacy & financial support for our children will give them a major head start in life. In some cases, they will end up teaching their very own parents how to invest & what to invest in. This makes me very happy,” Nicki Minaj said.
Conservative commentator Sophie Delquié Martin posted the original message that lists Minaj alongside Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and President Trump as featured names for the summit.
The event streams live from the historic Mellon Auditorium next week. Trump plans to use the summit to push his new Trump Accounts investment program for American families.
The Trump Accounts Summit focuses on new investment vehicles for children. Parents can establish tax-advantaged retirement accounts for kids born between January 2025 and December 2028.
Treasury reports show massive interest from philanthropists and corporations. Michael Dell and his wife, Susan, committed $6.25 billion to the program in December. Ray Dalio pledged $75 million for Connecticut children two weeks later.
Other expected participants include Kevin O’Leary from Shark Tank, actress Cheryl Hines, multiple GOP Congress members and Fortune 500 CEOs. Nicki Minaj hasn’t confirmed whether she’ll appear in person or virtually. But her social media reshare alone sent shockwaves through her fanbase and political circles.
This latest move follows weeks of MAGA controversy surrounding the rapper.
Her recent clash with Don Lemon further escalated tensions. Minaj used homophobic slurs against the journalist after he covered an anti-ICE protest at a Minnesota church. Lemon fired back, calling Minaj an “ignorant bigot” and questioning her stance on immigration issues.
Trump himself weighed in on the Minaj-Lemon feud, supporting the rapper’s position.
She recently appeared at AmericaFest with Erika Kirk, sparking massive backlash, including a petition to deport her from America.

TikTok Privacy Policy Changes & What U.S. Users Need to Know

A pop up on the app caused concern in most people and others probably agreed to the new pop-up without blinking. When U.S. users opened the app, the scroll was blocked until they accepted new terms tied to TikTok’s transition into American majority ownership. On paper, this is about compliance and survival. In practice, it quietly reshapes what the platform can see, store, and sell about the people who fuel it.
The new entity, TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC, was created after the U.S. government pushed the platform to sever Chinese control. Among the investors is Oracle, a name that tends to make privacy watchers sit up straighter. TikTok declined to comment on specifics, which only adds to the intrigue. The real story lives inside the fine print.
First up is location. For years, TikTok insisted it did not collect GPS level location data from U.S. users. That era is over. Under the new policy, if a user enables location services, TikTok can now collect precise location data, not just approximate signals from IP addresses or SIM regions. That puts it in the same data neighborhood as apps like Instagramand X. The difference is TikTok is making this shift at a moment when trust is already fragile.
Then there is AI. TikTok has formally added AI interactions to its list of collectible data. Prompts, questions, uploaded files, generated responses, and even metadata about when and how those interactions happen can now be logged. In other words, if you are talking to TikTok’s AI tools, that conversation may be stored, analyzed, and tied back to your account.
Finally, advertising. TikTok’s ad ambitions are no longer confined to its own app. The updated policy expands how user data can be used across the wider internet through the TikTok Ad Network. Advertisers and publishers can share off platform behavior, while TikTok can return the favor by serving targeted ads beyond its own walls. Your TikTok data may now follow you a little farther than before.
Some say none of this means TikTok is suddenly evil, but the people I know are no longer on the app. The scroll ends here.

Florida Congressman Maxwell Frost Reveals He Was Punched In the Face at Sundance Film Festival Party
Maxwell Frost is speaking out after being the subject of an assault while attending a 2026 Sundance Film Festival party this weekend.
The 29-year-old Florida congressman was attending an event when a man approached him with racist remarks and punched him in the face.
There were reports that a racially charged assault took place at CAA’s party before Maxwell came forward, revealing it was him who was attacked.
“Last night, I was assaulted by a man at Sundance Festival who told me that Trump was going to deport me before he punched me in the face. He was heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off. The individual was arrested and I am okay,” he shared on Twitter/X. “Thank you to the venue security and Park City PD for assistance on this incident.”
Per THR, the suspect snuck into the party at High West Saloon in Park City, Utah, and around midnight, he went into the restroom and began to cause a disturbance.
According to reports, the man stated how he was proud to be “white” and after leaving the restroom, punched a person of color in the face, who has now been identified as the congressman.
Security was quick to intervene before police arrived, and the man was arrested.

'RuPaul's Drag Race' Star Briar Blush Explains What Happened When She Fainted on the Show

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 18 contestant Briar Blush is opening up about that scary moment when she passed out mid-judging on the runway.
When Briar went down in the episode, right in the middle of judge Law Roach doling out his criticism, her sisters tried to revive her and a medic was called. Now she is ready to talk about what happened.
She told Entertainment Weekly that it was the first time she’s fainted. Briar remembered Michelle Visage‘s critiques, but then halfway through Law‘s she “started getting warm in the head.”
“I blinked, and thought Juicy Love Dion was just looking at me sideways. I didn’t realize I was on the ground. I was mad for a second. I looked around and saw queens on stools and Ru screaming for medics. I didn’t realize I’d fainted,” the reality star explained.
But things took a scarier turn after the show when she went to the doctor and got diagnosed with pneumonia, and later, sepsis.
“I was told I had walking pneumonia for weeks, which later turned into sepsis,” Briar recalled. “The pneumonia happened during the show, sepsis happened after the show. I got very sick after filming. Athena [Dion] told me I looked worse, so I went back to the doctor and ended up having sepsis.”
She claims that she was treated “for the wrong kind of pneumonia,” so she wasn’t improving.
“I think the first doctor I saw was kind of a quack. I went back to the doctor because I felt worse. It started feeling kind of grim. When I went back, it became more dire. I was in the hospital with sepsis,” Briar clarified.
Thankfully, after a brief hospital stay, she is doing better, though she did damage her left lung.
“When you’re sick that long, it can cause lasting damage to the lungs. My lung may or may not ever be the same as it was, but I’m in a much better place with my health,” she concluded.

Trump Deportations Hit Florida Cubans Who Fueled His Comeback at the Ballot Box
A new report from the New York Times shows Cuban deportations from Florida accelerating under Donald Trump’s second term, leaving many Cuban families stunned by an outcome they did not expect, even after years of hardline campaign promises.
Federal data cited by the Times shows more than 1,600 Cubans were deported in 2025 alone, more than double the number removed in 2024, the final year of Joe Biden’s presidency. The increase marks a sharp shift for a community that historically saw deportation protections as almost untouchable, especially in South Florida.
Many people online pointed out that the deported individuals were not citizens and therefore could not have voted for Trump. Still, many took the opportunity to point out that their families did. The political backdrop is hard to ignore. A Florida International University poll conducted ahead of the 2024 election found 68 percent of Cuban American voters in Miami-Dade County backed Trump. Reporting from NBC put statewide Cuban American support at roughly 70 percent.
Meanwhile, policy changes have continued to narrow legal pathways. In 2025, the administration restricted certain Cuban visas, ended a family reunification program, and paused most Cuban immigration applications.
“It’s the most sweeping rollback of Cuban migration channels since the Cold War,” said María José Espinosa Carrillo of the Center for Democracy in the Americas.
