#HipHopNews: Daz Dillinger Sues Tupac Mom’s Amaru Entertainment Over Unpaid Royalties

A new legal battle tied to the legacy of Tupac Shakur is unfolding, this time involving one of his closest collaborators from the Death Row era.
Daz Dillinger has filed a lawsuit against Amaru Entertainment, alleging that the company failed to properly account for and pay royalties connected to several of Tupac’s most recognizable records. The complaint, filed May 8 in Los Angeles federal court, centers on Dillinger’s contributions as a writer, producer, and performer across multiple releases tied to the late icon’s catalog.
The filing points to a number of classic tracks, including “Ambitionz Az A Ridah,” “I Ain’t Mad at Cha,” “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted,” “Got My Mind Made Up,” and “Skandalouz,” along with remixes and alternate versions that have continued to generate revenue through licensing and distribution. According to Dillinger, those earnings have not been matched with clear or complete royalty statements.
The lawsuit states that a formal demand for payment and documentation was issued on October 18, 2024. In response, Amaru reportedly sent a payment totaling $91,445.27. However, the complaint argues that the payment lacked transparency, with no breakdown of what recordings were included, which time periods were covered, or what deductions may have been applied.
“Amaru’s payment confirms that monies were due,” the lawsuit states, while also asserting that the absence of detailed accounting makes it impossible to determine whether the amount was “complete, accurate, timely, and inclusive of all exploitations.”
Dillinger maintains that additional royalties and profits remain unpaid, and the lawsuit reflects that position. The filing includes claims for accounting, breach of contract, and breach of good faith and fair dealing, while seeking damages, restitution, disgorgement of profits, and full payment of any outstanding royalties. Interest, legal costs, and attorneys’ fees are also being pursued, along with a demand for a jury trial.
Control of Tupac’s estate has remained a sensitive and often contested issue in the years since Afeni Shakur founded Amaru Entertainment. Since her passing in 2016, the company has been overseen by Tom Whalley, whose management has been challenged in ongoing disputes involving Sekyiwa Shakur, the president of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation.
This latest case adds another layer to the ongoing conversation surrounding Tupac’s catalog, raising questions not just about ownership, but about how the contributions of key collaborators are recognized and compensated decades after the music was created.

The Man Who Stole Beyoncé’s Unreleased Music Gets Two Years In Prison
There is absolutely nobody in the popular music realm who moves in more secrecy than Beyoncé. Her tracks simply do not leak. She's the pioneer of the surprise album drop. On more than one occasion, she has put out entire full-length statements without advance warning. So when unreleased Beyoncé music gets stolen, it's a five-alarm feature. One man in Atlanta briefly did possess entire hard drives of Beyoncé's music, but that music never leaked. This morning, that man got a two-year prison sentence.
Last summer, someone broke into a Jeep in Atlanta just before a stop on Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter tour. 11Alive reports that the Jeep was parked in a parking garage. Beyoncé's team claims that the thief got away with two suitcases containing "jump drives with unreleased watermarked Beyoncé music, footage plans for the show, past and future set lists, two laptops, designer sunglasses, and Apple AirPods Max headphones." Using security camera footage, Atlanta police tracked down Kelvin Evans, a man who already had a number of break-in cases on his record. As far as I can tell, there's no evidence that Evans intentionally targeted Beyoncé.
After rejecting plea deals, Evans pleaded guilty to one count of entering an automobile and one count of criminal trespass. He was given a five-year sentence, with two years in prison and three on probation. He was already on parole, so he won't have the possibility of parole in this case.

Jamie Foxx's Girlfriend Alyce Huckstepp Pregnant, Expecting Their First Baby Together
Jamie Foxx is not becoming an empty nester quite yet. Indeed, the Amazing Spider-Man actor’s girlfriend Alyce Huckstepp is pregnant, expecting the couple’s first baby together, and Jamie’s third, E! News confirmed May 12.
The couple’s latest milestone comes over a year after they reunited in April 2025 following a breakup that January. Prior to their brief time apart, Jamie and Alyce confirmed their romance in August 2023.
And while the pair have been private when it comes to their romance—they were first linked in 2022 when she attended the premiere of his Netflix movie Day Shift—it comes as no surprise that the pair are expanding their love. After all, Jamie, who is also dad to daughters Corinne 32, with ex Connie Klein and Anaelise, 17, with ex Kristin Grannis, has been open about what being a father has meant to him.
For the Django Unchained star, that became even more apparent after he suffered a brain bleed that led to a life-threatening stroke in 2023.
“You know how you take a picture on your cell phone and you hit that first filter and it brightens up?" Jamie explained to E! News at the Golden Globes in 2025. “That's how life looks now. Everything is altered."
Indeed, the 58-year-old admitted his near-death experience caused him to live by the “cliche” motto, “‘Live life like it's your last.'”
“I appreciate these moments more,” he considered, adding that his two daughters, “kept me alive, Corinne Marie and Anelise. And I'm just blessed, man, 'cause it was over.”
Speaking of the same experience a few months later, Jamie emphasized his daughters were “courageous,” to maintain their strength during his health battle, and particularly lauded his elder daughter Corinne—who tied the knot with Joe Hooten in 2024.
“She wouldn't let anybody see me,” he told Us Weekly at the time. “Shout-out to my daughter Corinne Marie Foxx, who took care of me and made sure I was protected.”

Ne-Yo Says Managing 3 Girlfriends Is ‘Not As Difficult As You Would Think’
R&B singer Ne-Yo is opening up about the realities of balancing multiple romantic relationships, insisting his polyamorous lifestyle is far less complicated than many people assume.
During a recent appearance on the “Sorry We’re Cyrus” podcast, the “So Sick” hitmaker discussed his relationship with girlfriends Cristina, Arielle, and Moneii, revealing the group has officially been together for about three years. According to Ne-Yo, the dynamic works because everyone involved understands the importance of communication, patience, and mutual respect.
“We are a family. We love each other, and it’s a beautiful thing,” he shared. “It’s not as difficult as you would think.”
The Grammy-winning singer explained that maintaining the relationship requires emotional maturity from everyone involved, especially when it comes to sharing time and attention.
“It definitely takes a mindset,” Ne-Yo admitted, adding that each woman has her own personality and emotional needs. He later described the relationship as a “labor of love.”
The singer also pushed back on the idea that polyamory is solely centered around intimacy.
“People hear it…and they instantly go to sex,” he said. “Sex is one very small [part] of a much larger pot. It’s community above anything else.”
Over the weekend, Ne-Yo celebrated the trio’s anniversary on Instagram, calling their bond “real” and describing his partners as blessings in his life.

Cardi B and Stefon Diggs Reportedly Back Together, Source Says He 'Wants to Make It Work'

Cardi B and Stefon Diggs are reportedly giving their relationship another shot.
An alleged source tells People that the NFL star recently "stepped it up" with the Grammy-winning rapper after the pair split earlier this year.
“Cardi pulled away from the drama in February,” the source alleged. “She didn't trust him and felt like things were going on behind her back. She wasn't in a place emotionally to deal with fighting and tension.”
The source added that Cardi "needed to just finish" her Little Miss Drama Tour, which ran from February to April, and "have stability for her kids."
The insider also claimed Cardi "never closed the door completely" on the relationship and that Diggs "stepped it up a few weeks ago and showed her that he wants to make it work."
"It was enough of an effort to get her attention," the source continued. "She still cares about him a lot."
Neither Cardi nor Stefon has commented publicly about their relationship.
Rumors that the two had rekindled their relationship took off earlier this week when Cardi attended Diggs' Diggs Deep Foundation Mother's Day wellness event in Washington, D.C.
At the event, the two were seen showing PDA and posing for photos together.
They had already fueled speculation in April after Diggs was spotted in attendance at Cardi's Little Miss Drama Tour stop at Capital One Arena.
At that performance, Cardi jokingly told the crowd, “I might get put on my back tonight.”
Diggs later appeared at her afterparty at Throw Social before the two reportedly left together.
Rumors that the two were romantically linked began circulating in October 2024 and spent Valentine’s Day together in 2025. They became Instagram official that June.
In a September 2025 interview with Jenna Bush Hager on TODAY With Jenna & Friends, Cardi said the two were set up by “mutual friends.”
"I thought he was cute," Cardi said at the time. "I was like, 'Oh, he's gotta be mine.'"
A source confirmed to Entertainment Tonight in early February that Cardi and Diggs ended their relationship. The source also mentioned that not all hope for a reconciliation isn’t lost.
“It's possible they get back together and this could just be for right now," the source said. “She is focused on her upcoming [Little Miss Drama Tour] and family while figuring out their next steps.”
Cardi and Diggs share a son, whom they refer to as “Baby Brim” or “Baby Touchdown,” born in November 2025.
Cardi remains legally married to estranged husband Offset, as People says their divorce has not been finalized.

Michael Jackson’s Thriller Tops R&B/Hip-Hop Chart Again After 40 Years

Michael Jackson has reclaimed the No. 1 position on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, as his iconic album Thriller returns to the summit dated May 16.
This marks the first time in nearly four decades that Thriller has led the chart again, fueled by a surge in streaming following the release of the Michael biopic. The album earned 62,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during the tracking week of May 1-7, according to Luminate, a 36% increase from the previous week’s 45,000 units.
Of these 62,000 units, streaming accounted for 48,000, driven by 50.3 million on-demand audio and video streams. Traditional album sales contributed 13,000 units, with the remaining 1,000 units coming from track-equivalent albums.
Originally released in November 1982, Thriller is recognized by Guinness World Records as the best-selling album globally and holds the title for the highest-certified studio album in the United States by the Recording Industry Association of America.
During its first run, Thriller dominated the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, spending an unprecedented 37 weeks at No. 1 between 1983 and 1984. It set the record for the most weeks atop the chart since its inception in 1965, a mark that stood for 41 years until surpassed by SZA’s SOS in June 2025.
With this latest week at No. 1, Thriller now totals 38 weeks leading the chart, extending its record for albums by a male artist and ranking second overall behind SOS’s 46 weeks.
Thriller’s resurgence also coincides with another of Michael Jackson’s albums climbing the chart: his 2003 greatest hits compilation Number Ones rose from No. 5 to No. 2, also earning 62,000 equivalent album units.
This remarkable achievement makes Michael Jackson the first artist since Future and Metro Boomin in 2024 to occupy the top two spots simultaneously on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. Prior to that, the last non-rap act to do so was The Temptations on February 22, 1969, when they held No. 1 with TCB and No. 2 with Live at the Copa.
The combined success of Thriller and Number Ones underlines the enduring legacy and continued popularity of Michael Jackson’s music decades after its original release.

Legendary film critic Rex Reed, known for sharp reviews and candid Hollywood interviews, Has Died at 87

Rex Reed, the renowned film critic and author known for his sharp reviews and candid Hollywood interviews, died Tuesday morning at the age of 87, his representative confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Reed passed away at his Manhattan residence following a brief illness, according to his friend and spokesperson William Kapfer. Since 1970, he had lived in a New York apartment in the Dakota, which he originally purchased for $30,000.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, on October 2, 1938, Reed made a significant mark in entertainment journalism with his distinctive voice and flamboyant persona. He wrote film reviews and columns for the New York Observer from its inception in 1987, experiencing a brief hiatus in 2017 before being rehired. His last published review appeared in November for the film Truth & Treason.
Prior to his tenure at the Observer, Reed spent 13 years as an arts critic at the New York Daily News and five years with the New York Post. Unlike many critics of his era who remained behind the scenes, he embraced a public profile, known for his nasal drawl and sharp fashion sense, which made him a distinctive figure within the critical community.
His style was sometimes polarizing, with some viewing him as a pioneer of "New Journalism." His 1966 Esquire article about an irate Ava Gardner was later included in Tom Wolfe’s celebrated 1973 anthology on the genre. However, others criticized Reed for his celebrity fascination, highlighted by his stint as a judge on the 1970s game show The Gong Show.
Reflecting his theatrical flair, Reed acted in the 1970 film Myra Breckinridge, playing the character Myron, who transforms into Myra (Raquel Welch) in a dream sequence. Despite his role, he did not hesitate to give the film a harsh review. He also appeared in several other films, including Jules Dassin’s The Rehearsal (1974), as himself in Superman (1978), alongside Laurence Olivier in Inchon (1981), and with Ryan O’Neal and Shelley Long in Irreconcilable Differences (1984).
In 1986, Reed replaced the legendary critics Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert on the syndicated program At the Movies, co-hosting alongside former Entertainment Tonight reporter Bill Harris after the original duo departed to a Disney-produced show.
Known as a prolific name-dropper and gossip columnist, Reed was a frequent guest on television shows such as The Dick Cavett Show and The Tonight Show throughout the 1970s. He particularly enjoyed interviewing and profiling iconic actresses like Bette Davis, Myrna Loy, Angela Lansbury, and Melina Mercouri. He once expressed a preference for older actresses, stating, "The old broads are the ones that interest me the most. Nothing bores me more than these mini-skirted girls with nothing on their minds."
His 1966 article about Ava Gardner sparked controversy when she objected to his portrayal. Reed defended his piece, claiming every word was true and written as flatteringly as possible given Gardner’s refusal to cooperate with a proper interview and her intoxicated state during the encounter.
While not a populist himself, Reed was unafraid to criticize acclaimed filmmakers. For example, he strongly disliked David Lynch’s Blue Velvet, calling it "one of the sickest films ever made," stating it would appeal only to those with bizarre tastes and offering nothing for sane viewers.
In recent years, Reed attracted criticism for his descriptions of actresses including Melissa McCarthy, Renée Zellweger, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in his reviews. Additionally, he stirred controversy regarding the 1993 Oscars when he claimed that presenter Jack Palance mistakenly announced the wrong winner for Best Supporting Actress, naming Marisa Tomei from My Cousin Vinny. Despite being heavily criticized, Reed maintained his assertion of a cover-up well into 1997.
Born Rex Taylor Reed, he spent much of his early life moving around due to his father Jimmy’s oil rig work near the Gulf of Mexico. Reed attended Louisiana State University, where he was editor of the literary magazine and contributed as a columnist, critic, and editorial writer for the campus newspaper. He also won a national short-story contest before graduating in 1960 with a journalism degree.
Determined to escape his southern upbringing, Reed sought to make his mark through writing. Although he applied for a job at The New York Times, he was offered only a copy boy position, which he declined. To support himself, he worked as a jazz singer on local TV, a pancake-house cook, a record salesman at Bloomingdale’s, and an actor in summer stock theater in Montana.
After moving to New York, he secured a publicity job at 20th Century Fox but was laid off amid budget cuts tied to the troubled production of Cleopatra. During a European trip in 1965, Reed managed to get into the Venice Film Festival, where he interviewed film legends Buster Keaton and Jean-Paul Belmondo. These interviews earned him $125 and $150 from The New York Times and the Herald Tribune, respectively, marking the start of his professional journalism career.
Reed authored eight books, including four collections of profiles: Do You Sleep in the Nude? (1968), Conversations in the Raw (1969), People Are Crazy Here (1974), and Valentines & Vitriol (1977). The first of these was praised by Nora Ephron, who marveled at how he coaxed revealing comments from his subjects.
He also wrote novels, with his debut, Personal Effects (1986), optioned for a miniseries by NBC. A fan of Broadway musicals, Reed contributed liner notes for celebrated performers such as Liza Minnelli, Lena Horne, Tony Bennett, Mel Tormé, and Barbara Cook.
In recognition of his achievements, Reed was inducted into the Louisiana Hall of Fame in 1993 alongside James Carville and Supreme Court Judge John Minor Wisdom.
Despite his public career, Reed never married, telling The New York Times in 2018 that he did not engage in romantic relationships, only friendships. He added, "I don’t know, love is not something that I’ve been really good at. I think people are intimidated by people with opinions."
Rex Reed leaves behind a legacy as one of the most distinctive and controversial voices in film criticism, remembered for his wit, sharp tongue, and unapologetic personality that shaped decades of entertainment journalism.

D4vd's murder case delayed after prosecutors reveal evidence of dismembered teen victim found in his Tesla.
D4vd, the platinum-selling musician, appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom on Tuesday, where his upcoming evidentiary hearing in his murder case was postponed to June 29.
The delay was requested by D4vd’s defense team after prosecutors released a disturbing nine-page evidence brief on April 29. This filing detailed their theory on how the remains of 14-year-old victim Celeste Rivas Hernandez were found dismembered and severely decomposed inside his towed Tesla vehicle.
According to prosecutors, D4vd, whose birth name is David Anthony Burke, allegedly lured Rivas to his rental home in Los Angeles, fatally stabbed her on April 23, 2025, dismembered her body with a chainsaw, and concealed the remains for several months. This theory was revealed for the first time in the April 29 filing.
Before the chilling evidence was made public, D4vd appeared in court and silently nodded as his attorney, Blair Berk, emphasized his client was “presumed innocent.” At that time, the defense expressed a desire to fast-track the preliminary hearing. Berk also sought to seal the evidence brief, citing concerns that it might influence potential jurors since her team had only just received the document that morning. However, the judge denied this request.
On Tuesday, Burke again appeared in court wearing an orange jail uniform and agreed to the new delay, a court source told Rolling Stone. The hearing had originally been scheduled to begin on May 26. Additionally, Burke is set to return on June 17 for a status conference.
The singer known for “Romantic Homicide,” now 21, was charged last month and has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and unlawful mutilation of human remains. Prosecutors also included special circumstance allegations such as murder of a witness, murder for financial gain, and lying in wait.
The prosecutors’ brief alleges surveillance footage captured Burke driving his Tesla on July 29, 2025, parking it near his rental home, then leaving for a concert tour. The vehicle was later towed and impounded, and on September 8, 2025, investigators discovered Rivas’ remains inside.
“For several weeks, or possibly months, defendants left the victim's body to decompose inside his Tesla. He lied to friends, business associates, and others who noticed the strong smell of decay in and around his home and vehicle,” the filing states.
Prosecutors allege that Burke met Rivas when she was just 11 years old and began a sexual relationship with her after she turned 13. When Rivas’ family reported her as a potential runaway, authorities found Burke’s phone number in her records and informed him of her age. Despite this, prosecutors claim he continued to pursue her and even paid a classmate $1,000 to deliver a secret phone so they could maintain contact.
Text messages recovered between the two allegedly reference sex, pregnancy, and abortion. Prosecutors contend that the night before the alleged murder, the pair had an argument. Burke then reportedly paid an Uber driver to pick up Rivas from her family home in Lake Elsinore, more than an hour away from Los Angeles, and bring her to his rental property in the Hollywood Hills.
The filing claims Burke killed Rivas shortly after she arrived, asserting she had threatened to expose details of the sexual abuse. “Knowing he had to silence the victim before she ruined his music career as she had threatened, very soon after her arrival at his home, defendant stabbed the victim to death multiple times and stood by while she bled out,” the evidence brief states.
As the case progresses, D4vd remains in custody awaiting further court proceedings. The next scheduled hearing and status conference in June will provide updates on the evidentiary process.

Lupita Nyong’o Confirmed to Play Helen of Troy & Another Character in ‘The Odyssey’

Christopher Nolan has confirmed the part that Lupita Nyong’o will play in his upcoming epic The Odyssey.
The 43-year-old Oscar winner was announced as a cast member a while ago, and rumors began swirling she would be playing Helen of Troy. Nolan has now revealed that she will also be playing a second character.
Time confirmed Lupita‘s role in the film in their profile published on Tuesday (May 12).
The outlet called the casting decision one of “several striking adaptation choices.”
“The reunion between Odysseus’ fellow king Menelaus (Jon Bernthal) and his wife Helen (Lupita Nyong’o) — the most beautiful woman in the world, blamed for starting the war after a Trojan prince spirited her away — has always felt too neatly resolved in the poem. Nolan complicates it,” the profile shared.
Additionally, Lupita will also play Helen’s sister Clytemnestra, who marries Agamemnon before he later leads the Greeks to war.
The Odyssey stars Matt Damon as the titular character of Odysseus who embarks on an epic journey to return home after becoming the hero of the Trojan War. Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Elliot Page, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, and John Leguizamo also star.

Madonna ‘Confessions II’ Visual Film to Premiere at Tribeca Film Festival 2026
Madonna is bringing her forthcoming record Confessions II to the big screen with a visual film.
The “I Feel So Free” Queen of Pop will bring the world premiere of the movie to the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival, it was revealed Tuesday (May 12).
The movie was directed by TORSO (David Toro and Solomon Chase), and is built around the first six tracks of her upcoming studio album due out on July 3.
The movie will premiere on June 5 at the Beacon Theatre, and Madonna herself will join the directors for an exclusive conversation with Jimmy Fallon.
An official description, from the festival:
Confessions II is an ambitious visual work exceeding 10 minutes, built around the first six tracks of Madonna’s forthcoming album including “I Feel So Free” and “Bring Your Love” with Sabrina Carpenter. It unfolds as a single, continuous piece, weaving together interconnected, music-driven sequences into an immersive cinematic experience. A film that gives physicality to the music, Confessions II lives in the tension between control and surrender, between being seen and disappearing into a crowd. Each song unfolds across six chapters, each one a sexy thriller, a dance delusion, an epic fever dream. Like the album, it blurs distinction between tracks, building cosmic narratives that follow a twisted dream logic.
The result is a transcendent journey that catapults the viewer through a f–ked-up night out that’s remembered not for what happened, but for how it felt. Madonna is ambushed, pursued, and ultimately worshipped by a roving squad of camera-wielding femmes. From the bedroom to the club bathroom, to the car, to the arena, and even into nature, they cruise the many spaces in which music thrives. Inside these sanctuaries, we discover reflections on dualities that have accompanied Madonna’s entire career: privacy and publicity, grief and catharsis, intimacy and communion, fandom and collaboration. But everything always returns to the one, hallowed place that started it all: the dancefloor.
“Madonna has spent decades proving that reinvention is its own art form. ‘Confessions II’ feels immersive, provocative, and completely of the moment, while still channeling the kind of nightlife mythology only she could create. We are thrilled to welcome Madonna back to Tribeca,” Tribeca Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal said in a statement.
Tickets are available for purchase starting Tuesday (May 12) exclusively to Madonna Community members through unique digital access codes, per the outlet.
Listen to Madonna‘s new single with Sabrina Carpenter, “Bring Your Love,” released just after her star-studded album party at The Abbey in West Hollywood.
