#MAGFAB: Saweetie talks about her New Album, Dating, and More for INSTYLE Magazine
On finding herself as an artist and confirming that she’s finally ready to drop a new album:
She confirms she is finally—finally!—ready to drop the album and describes the new music as “feel-good” and “more global.” “It will address some misconceptions about myself,” she says, “and be authentic to the magical woman I am today.”
“I’m showing women what it looks like to make a diamond under pressure,” says Saweetie, looking at me intently. “As you mentioned before, I come off as very unbothered. And I don’t want my fans to commit to that fantasy: ‘If Saweetie’s like that, then I have to be like that.’ No!
“Saweetie’s a human,” she says. “She cries. She breaks down. She shuts down. I go through a lot of emotions. This is the moment when I’m able to finally speak, in a full project. A bad bitch got feelings too.”
On why she’s not dating right now:
“When I reflect on certain points in my career, I did allow myself to get slightly distracted,” she says. “But I’m thankful for those lessons because they’ve made me wiser. Anything that may be trying to compete with my goals, with my ambitions, with my priorities… I no longer second guess my career and if you can’t understand it, then respectfully, get out of my way.”
On why she’s more keen to collaborate with women than to beef with them:
“I’m rooting for all the girls,” says Saweetie. “I like Nicki, Doja, Doechii, Meg, Cardi… Because, girl, we have it really hard behind the scenes,” Saweetie admits. “As rap girls, sometimes our resources are inadequate [compared] to other genres.”
On going through a great heartbreak following a very public breakup in 2021:
“I went through such a traumatic time in my life. I just wanted to start over.” “I thought life would get better, but girl, life just kept life-ing… Surrendering to God and the universe has actually gotten me places. I used to be a control freak. I used to try to micromanage everything. I think we resort to micromanaging everything because we feel helpless.”
On letting herself become more vulnerable to benefit both mental health and her songwriting:
“As a child I was very, very sensitive, but told I [wasn’t allowed to] cry,” she says. “It gave me a cold heart. But the more I discover spirituality, and being in tune with myself, I’m slowly becoming more vulnerable again. And I feel like the best music is made in a vulnerable state.”
“I’m a workaholic. But I no longer take pride in that. Now I tell my team, ‘I do need some time off. I do need to rejuvenate. I do need to sleep. I do need to drink more water.’ I do need to do whatever I need to do to refill my soul and myself.”
On her future in acting and goal to be cast in a Netflix project this year:
“After I drop this album, I can foresee myself going into complete acting mode,” she says, noting that she auditioned for a semi-music-related film in December. “I sent in my audition tapes before the new year, so I’m looking forward to hearing back from them,” she says. “[I’d] be playing the protagonist. So I’m really excited for this.”

Numbers were exchanged, no one called, and now I cannot talk about it anymore because every time I talk about it it goes viral. At this point, he's going to call to tell me to stop talking about it!"
As for her current man, she says that she said a "very simple prayer" to God before meeting him. She told us that she simple recited, "Lord just bring me my person. Make it clear, and bring me my person ... and he did! He was a little younger than I wanted him to be, but I'm not complaining."
How young exactly? Bailey, 57, played coy with that information. "We'll talk about that later," she quipped. "Happy young ... I'm not over here smiling for nothing!"

#RIP: Irv Gotti, music executive who created Murder Inc. Records, dies at 54
Irv Gotti, a music mogul who founded Murder Inc. Records and was behind major hip-hop and R&B artists such as Ashanti and Ja Rule, has died. He was 54.
Def Jam Recordings, which was the parent company of Murder Inc., announced Gotti’s death in a statement late Wednesday night. It did not give a cause of death.
Gotti, whose real name is Irving Lorenzo, founded Murder Inc. with his brother in the late 1990s, with the label gaining worldwide prominence through platinum-selling artists Ashanti and Ja Rule. Gotti had also worked with artists DMX, Fat Joe and Jay-Z, among other huge names in the genre.
“His creative genius and unwavering dedication to the culture birthed countless hits, defining an era of music that continues to resonate with fans worldwide,” the statement from Def Jam read.
The label, which got its name after Gotti watched a documentary on the original Murder, Inc. crew of mob hitmen, once came under investigation for allegedly laundering drug money for a notorious crack kingpin, leading to criminal charges against Gotti. He was eventually acquitted.
The bad press around the investigation led to Gotti dropping the word “Murder” from the title of the label to change its name to The Inc.
“All of these big records, and people would still come back and focus on the negative word ‘murder,’” he said when he announced the change.
Still, Gotti never changed the nickname he shared with the late Gambino family boss John Gotti, which he said was given to him by Jay-Z.
“I ain’t going to change it,” he said of his name.
Lyor Cohen, a former Def Jam executive who is now global head of music at YouTube and Google, said “Def Jam has lost one of it’s most creative soldiers.”
“He was hip hop, and when we were on bended knee he brought the heat and saved our asses. He comes from a very tight, beautiful family from Queens and it’s an honor and a privilege to have known him. Irv you will be missed,” Cohen said in a statement.

Joining musician Psy, who notably created the song “Gangnam Style,” the 29-year-old will also executive produce the series titled KPOPPED. In each episode, western icons reimagine one of their biggest hits, collaborating with top-tier K-pop idols to deliver spectacular battle performances, with a live Seoul-based audience picking the winner of the best new K-popped song, as described by a press release.
Alongside the “Cocky Af” rapper, the series is executive produced by Moira Ross, Richie, Miky Lee, and Greg Foster, alongside Harry H.K. Wendy Williams Denies She’s “Incapacitated,” Calls A&E Lawsuit “Blood Money”
Wendy Williams has disputed claims that she’s “incapacitated” and unable to make decisions on her own accord, which falls in direct conflict with statements from her legal guardian.
On Wednesday (Feb. 5), during an appearance on The Breakfast Club radio show, Williams opened up about her ongoing health and legal battles, refuting that she has frontotemporal dementia, as previously stated by her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey.
“I don’t have frontotemporal dementia…it’s disgusting,” Williams said, speaking from a medical facility, on the radio program on Feb. 5. “That’s a very rare thing for anybody to have.”
The legendary radio jock argued that she wouldn’t be able to perform simple tasks, such as showering and communicating with others. “I’m not incapacitated,” Williams later added. “I am not a baby.”
Williams also spoke out against a lawsuit filed by Morrissey, in which Morrissey alleges that A&E, Lifetime Entertainment’s parent company, and other affiliates’ airing of the docuseries, Where Is Wendy Williams?, was unauthorized since Williams didn’t have the legal or mental capacity to sign off on the project.
The New Jersey native continued to seemingly slam Morrissey while distancing herself from the lawsuit, which she says she doesn’t want to receive any money from if a judgement is ruled in her favor, deeming it “blood money.”
Although Williams admits to being taken aback by the Where Is Wendy Williams? docuseries, which she vows to “never watch again in life,” she also voiced her willingness to work with A&E and Lifetime in the future.
“I’ve worked with Lifetime several times,” the 60-year-old explained. “Enough that I would love to do something with Lifetime again. They are good people to me and I am good people to them.”
In the wake of Williams’ interview with The Breakfast Club, Morrissey would address Williams’ statements in a new court filing, in which she defended her lawsuit against A&E as being in Williams’ best interest.
“[Williams] has indicated that, in her opinion, she is not suffering from dementia and is not incapacitated,” the filing stated.
“We are writing this letter today because, during a radio interview this morning, [Williams] discussed the A&E matter at some length and appeared to indicate that she does not want to proceed with the action.”
Morrissey has also requested that Williams receive a medical reevaluation involving “comprehensive neurological and psychological testing by a specialist in the field.”

Judge Temporarily Blocks Trump Plan Offering Buyouts For Federal Workers
A federal judge on Thursday temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s plan to push out federal workers by offering them financial incentives, the latest twist in a chaotic and distressing saga playing out for millions of government employees.
The ruling came hours before the midnight deadline for them to apply for the deferred resignation program. U.S. District Judge George O’Toole Jr. in Boston directed the administration to extend that deadline until after a court hearing he scheduled for Monday afternoon. O’Toole did not express an opinion on the legality of the program, which is being challenged by several labor unions, and said he would weigh arguments next week.
At the White House, press secretary Karoline Levitt said more than 40,000 federal workers have applied to leave in return for being paid until Sept. 30.
“We encourage federal workers in this city to accept the very generous offer,” she said at about the same time as the judge’s ruling came out. “They don’t want to come into the office. If they want to rip the American people off, then they’re welcome to take this buyout and we’ll find highly qualified people” to replace them.

“Employees who engage in unlawful behavior or other misconduct will be prioritized for appropriate investigation and discipline, including termination,” the email said.
Democrats said workers shouldn’t accept the deferred resignation program because it wasn’t authorized by Congress, raising the risk they won’t get paid.
“It’s a scam and not a buyout,” said Everett Kelley, president of the American Federation of Government Employees.
Kelley said he tells workers that “if it was me, I wouldn’t do it.”
An employee at the Department of Education, who also spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear of retaliation, said the administration appeared desperate to get people to sign the agreement. However, she said there were too many red flags, such as a clause waiving the right to sue if the government failed to honor its side of the deal.

It’s one of the many tools that he’s using to try to achieve the campaign promise to bring reform to the civil service and changes to D.C.”
The issue was also discussed during a meeting with Department of Agriculture employees, according to another recording obtained by the AP. Marlon Taubenheim, a human resources official, acknowledged that “these are very trying times” and “there’s a lot of stress.”
“Unfortunately, we don’t have all the answers,” he said.
Jacqueline Ponti-Lazaruk, another agency leader, said employees “probably didn’t have the runway of time that you might have liked to make a life-changing decision.”
For those who remain, she said, “we’ll just keep plugging along.”

Some federal workers said they did not trust the validity of the offers, doubting that Trump has the authority to disburse money. Government jobs have often been considered secure positions, but O’Hara said there’s fear in the workforce. The sense from his colleagues is “I don’t know if I’m going to be here tomorrow because, like, we don’t know what’s going to happen.’”
Dan Smith, a Maryland resident whose father was a research scientist at the Department of Agriculture, said federal workers are “so underappreciated and so taken for granted.
“It’s one thing to downsize the government. It’s one thing to try to obliterate it,” Smith said. “And that’s what’s going on. And that is what is so frightening and disgusting and requires pushback.”
Mary-Jean Burke, a physical therapist for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Indianapolis, said she’s worried that too many people will leave, jeopardizing health care services.
Burke, who also serves as a union official, said doubts have also been growing over whether to take the offer.
“Originally, I think people were like, ‘I’m out of here,’” she said. But then they saw a social media post from DOGE, which said employees can “take the vacation you always wanted, or just watch movies and chill, while receiving your full government pay and benefits.”
The message backfired because “that kind of thing sounded a little bit too good to be true and people were hesitant,” Burke said.
Either way, she said, Trump has achieved his apparent goal of shaking up the federal workforce.
“Every day, it’s something,” Burke said. “If he signed up to be a disrupter, he’s doing it.”
